Hungary, Austria Vacation Review: Vienna, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Bratislava, Budapest, 12-Day Trip

Our 12-day trip to Vienna, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Bratislava, and Budapest was planned carefully. All accommodations were excellent and within walking distance of sightseeing attractions and restaurants. All in all, we enjoyed the trip very much and thank our Zicasso travel partner for making this vacation a reality.

Both of our tour operators kept in touch with us throughout the trip and provided updates as needed. It was comfortable to know someone was monitoring our progress.

Switzerland & Austria Trip Review: Salzburg, Zermatt, Hallstatt, Food and Tuk-Tuk Tours, Classical Concerts
Working with this travel company to plan the trip was easy and wonderful. Mojca and Zala took my suggestions, added their suggestions, and a lovely trip was planned. When communicating with the company, feedback was either almost immediate or within 24 hours because of the time change. We liked the idea of having a driver with us for the trip and our driver was an excellent driver and a good person. We enjoyed him a lot. A couple of the hotels I wish had been more centrally located to the older parts of town so that it would have been more walkable, but we used taxis when necessary. Most of the guides were wonderful and knowledgeable and provided us with great tours of the cities. For Gabi in Salzburg, it was just too hot and the tour was poor at best. We were disappointed that the reservation to tour the salt mine in Hallstatt was made at the wrong location, so we did not get to do that, but we took a boat ride instead. The Tuk-Tuk tour and the food tour in Vienna were exceptional! It was a great trip, our travel agency provided us with a wonderful time, and all 5 of us came home satisfied with our experiences. Just a suggestion---In some areas of cities when we were going on a tour, our driver dropped us off very far away from the attraction. Taxis were driving people right up to the door, but our driver did not have clearance to do that. Could that be possible?

Austria and Czech Republic Travel Review: Prague, Salzburg, Vienna, History, Wine Tasting, Boat Ride, Local Cuisine, 10-Night Tour

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing trip. We learned much about the history of the Czech Republic and Austria- in particular, the pre-history and the recent history (18th century to present). Also, it was interesting to experience the residual effects of the communist regime in Prague and the contrasting cultures of Prague, Salzburg, and Vienna.

Hotel accommodations were spacious and well-located. The hotel in Prague, while clean and spacious was not what we would classify as a 5* hotel, on par with the hotel in Salzburg or Vienna. The use of vouchers was problematic. With the exception of the hotel in Prague, the others seemed surprised when we presented them with vouchers. It was not clear to staff at the front desk that we had pre-paid, resulting in numerous back-and-forth discussions. The Hallstatt Museum would not accept our voucher so we had to pay to enter.

It was relaxing having a driver for day trips out of Prague and for transfers between Prague, Salzburg, and Vienna. Having the same guide/driver for 6 days in the Czech Republic was enjoyable and most informative.

Because of time constraints, we were not able to visit several of the places on our itinerary: the Mucha Museum, the National Museum in Prague, the Royal Mint in Kutna Hora, or the State Castle in Cesky Krumlov. We just drove past the village of Durnstein. Perhaps better planning would have helped here. We were surprised that one of our 3 days in Vienna was a National holiday-stores closed. The tour at the Johann W winery informed us about modern wine-making techniques but the wine pairing was not up to our or our guide's expectations.

Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary Vacation Review: Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Cesky Krumlov, Hallstatt, Walking Tour

Arrangements for our trip through Prague, Vienna, and Budapest were somewhat involved, as we also made overnight trips to Cesky Krumlov in the South Czech Republic and Hallstatt, Austria. By providing drivers for each leg of these side trips, Zicasso’s travel team was especially helpful in avoiding much longer train itineraries to these locations.

Overall, our travel company was wonderful in providing numerous recommendations at each location, private guides in all five cities, and were very flexible with adjustments to the itinerary or hotel locations based on our preferences. Their communication throughout the process was wonderful.

Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary Travel Review: Prague, Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest, 2-Week Trip

The Zicasso tour company proved to be a super travel partner for my wife and me on a two-week trip to the central European cities of Prague, Salzburg, Vienna, and Budapest. They worked with us closely on the front end to identify our goals and interests, and structured the trip to fully meet those goals and interests.

While traveling, their operational manager was in regular contact with us and available on relatively short notice. The itinerary was completed without any hitches, and the guided tours, landmark sights, classical concerts, and timing all worked out well.

Each of the four selected hotels were winners! They were located at central spots for easy walking to most activities. The day-by-day tour itinerary was immensely helpful.
