Each of the three floors of these structures depicts another scene with interpretations that have survived since the early 15th century. Kyichu Lhakhang is nearby, which is a 7th-century structure that is often busy with pilgrims because it is one of the country’s most sacred structures. Detailed Description

Bhutan is an ancient kingdom that remains untouched by time in the heart of the Himalayas. Fables and legends ring true, monasteries dot the valleys, and you are never far from a personal encounter with the locals. This is the Land of the Thunder Dragon. Like almost all nations, Bhutan is not a single entity but a conglomeration of people and histories. Your experiences in Thimphu and Paro will be very different from those in the Bumthang and Phobjikha valleys. The Dzong in Punakha will contrast with what you admire in Trongsa. You will also visit the Tiger’s Nest Monastery.

Traveling at a comfortable pace and using Bhutan’s finest accommodations, this two-week tour explores the heart and spirit of the country. By piecing together different destinations and regions, you will get a genuine feel for the county's local life and history. Himalayan landscapes set the scene with snowy peaks that peer down at temple-draped valleys. Living UNESCO Heritage Sites will provide a daily focus: auspicious Lhakhangs, awe-inspiring gompas, ingenious dzongs. You will always have time to meet and chat with the locals in addition to having a private space for you to reflect on what you have experienced each day.

You will begin your journey in Paro, where you will explore the beautiful ruins and sites around the city. You will spend days two and three in and around Thimphu. Punakha is an unmissable destination due to its breathtaking dzong and divine history.  Two days there will be followed by a journey over the high mountain passes to Trongsa and then the Bumthang Valley. In the Bumthang Valley, you will spend three days discovering the country’s spiritual heartland. Phobjikha will then provide you with compelling insight into Bhutanese farm life before you recross the pass and return to Paro. The hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery will be saved for your final full day because this journey helps bring you full circle in the country.

Bhutan, Nepal Trip Review: Kathmandu, Chitwan National Park, Tiger’s Nest, Hiking, Mountain Flight, Temples, Buddhism, 16 Nights

Our experience in Bhutan and Nepal was wonderful. From first planning the itinerary to needing some assistance while traveling, our Zicasso agent was wonderful to work with. All of our accommodations, guides, and drivers were exceptional. I would highly recommend our travel company. We opted for a private tour of Bhutan and Nepal. I am very glad I booked activities at our agent’s suggestion: for example, the mountain flight from Kathmandu and the visit to Chitwan National Park, which was well worth the visit.

Bhutan Travel Review: Tiger’s Nest, Ridge Hike, Private Guide, 4 Nights

This was an absolutely amazing trip. Zicasso’s tour company accommodated everything we wanted to do during our short, four-day trip to Bhutan. Our guide and driver were incredible. The tour company’s owner was amazing and greeted us the first night and took us to dinner. I have zero complaints about our trip! Everything was perfect and we will certainly be coming back to Bhutan with our travel company.

India, Nepal, Bhutan Luxury Trip Review: Three-Week Tour

This trip went way beyond our expectations. We received the best service we have ever had. The hotels were palaces and the guides were expert, fun, and personable, so much so that you get attached to them. The service levels made us feel totally spoiled. It would be next to impossible to surpass this trip. I highly recommend Zicasso’s travel operator and will use them again and again. We even had a great many dinner reservations made for us, in addition to all the tours and other travel planning. We felt like royalty.

Luxury Trip to Bhutan Travel Review: Black-Necked Crane Festival, Visiting Monks at Monastery, Hiking, Mountain Biking

Overall, the trip was amazing and perfectly planned and executed. We loved the impromptu dinner with monks at a monastery and sitting in on evening prayers. Tiger’s Nest hike was great as was the Black Crain Festival. Our guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable, kind and informative. He felt authentic as a Buddhist and citizen of Bhutan. Our driver was also excellent. We felt very safe with him. He was always there when we needed him. Very nice guy as well.

The local travel agent was very helpful when we had an issue with one of our Bhutan visas--they checked in with us directly a couple times throughout the trip. Everything went according to plan—we had no issues.
