Okavango – Welcome to Botswana and Your Honeymoon Safari

Botswana has always rewarded the discerning visitor. It's not a country of mass group tours or a dozen safari trucks surrounding a lion pride. With an emphasis on unique experiences and personal encounters with nature, Botswana makes an idyllic first stop on this honeymoon vacation. After landing in Maun you're transferred to a light aircraft and flown into the wilderness, the blue channels of the Okavango shimmering beneath the wingtips. Relax on your private verandah and a gaggle of four-legged characters saunters past; impala, elephant, zebra, and more. The fenceless camp provides a unique immersion in rugged nature and a honeymoon suite that befits the occasion. A sublime raised bed offers views onto Okavango and the en-suite bathroom is nestled beneath a canopy of green. It's a five-star interior befitting its five-star surroundings.

Detailed Description

There's no need to choose a single safari destination as this unique vacation combines the highlights of a whole continent. Botswana's wilderness dances with primitive beauty, a myriad of ecosystems bringing diverse journeys into new realms; weave through the forests of Chobe, cruise tranquil lagoons in the Okavango Delta, and walk together through Big Five landscapes. Tanzania's animal kingdoms are very different. It's here that you find the endless grass plains of the Serengeti, the baffling wonder of Ngorongoro, and the delights of the great wildebeest migration. One country provides intimacy, the other imbues scale, and this honeymoon vacation coats it all in lavish layers of romance. Over 11 days you experience four of Africa's most enchanting safari destinations, a majestic interlude provided by a quick stop at Victoria Falls.

Botswana and Tanzania know how to reward the honeymooning couple. Sublime suites provide endearing solitude and privacy, although you should expect a cast of wildlife to saunter past at all times of day. Private verandahs gaze down on world-renowned landscapes and interiors befit the regality required of a luxury honeymoon. All safari activities are private and the itinerary cascades personal moments. Think sunset cruises past hippos, moonlit dinners in the bush, hot air ballooning above the Serengeti, and pulsating natural soundtracks perforating into camp. For 10 days and nights you become part of these epic landscapes, sharing the space with the Big Five yet rarely seeing another person.

Botswana and Tanzania are chosen here because they encapsulate the complete safari experience. You'll explore almost a dozen disparate ecosystems and four world-renowned destinations, each leaving an alternative impression of delight and intrigue. Start in Botswana and the exuberant waterways of the Okavango Delta, nature's remarkable oasis in the desert. Tranquil, evocative, personal; the waterways and floodplains are all about intimate caresses with nature, from vast pods of hippos to a dozen antelope species splashing around the shallows. Fly above the waterways to the forests of Chobe National Park, home to bulldozing elephant herds and giraffe that grace every panorama. Both these Botswana destinations are graced by the big cats, the bounty of the landscape reflected by predatory abundance.

Take a quick break from the safari adventure and jump across the border to Zambia. Within an hour you're standing alongside Victoria Falls, the world's most powerful waterfall combining narratives of grace and power. From here you fly north and the landscapes change dramatically. It's no longer green and tropical. Yellow hues extend across vast plains, the vistas dotted with a patchwork of zebra and wildebeest. First stop at Ngorongoro Crater, where Maasai warriors and buffalo are visible from a lodge evoking old-world charm. Spend a day exploring the crater floor, the full Big Five visible in a single game drive, then drive into the Serengeti for two unforgettable days that seem to come straight from a wildlife documentary. Like always, luxuriously appointed accommodation provides the antidote to days of shared safari adventures.

The trip was carefully planned and we received optimal assistance throughout the trip and constant availability and monitoring during the journey. Our Zicasso travel agent was very professional and always available to respond to our requests and needs. The choice of hotels was excellent and reflected the expectations. The activities offered in the different locations were very well structured and the guides were of high quality, particularly those in Chobe National Park and Okavango Delta.

South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana Family Travel Review: Cape Town, Franschhoek, Victoria Falls, Chobe National, Okavango Delta, 2-Week Trip

We just returned from a fantastic two-week trip to Africa, coordinated by our Zicasso travel agent. We started in South Africa (Cape Town/Franschhoek), then went up to Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls), and to Botswana (Chobe National Park and Okavango Delta). Every step of the trip was well coordinated and seamless. The guides and accommodations were fantastic and comfortable.

I can't say enough positive things about our travel agent. She is the most detail-oriented and responsive travel agent I have ever worked with. She has extensive knowledge of travel in Africa and was able to provide outstanding recommendations for every question we had for her. She checked in with us regularly during the trip to make sure everything was going well, which was greatly appreciated. She genuinely cared about providing us with the best experience possible. I highly recommend using her and her agency if you are thinking about traveling to Africa!

Kenya, Tanzania Tour Review: Nairobi, Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Hot-Air Balloon Ride, Safari, Great Wildebeest Migration, Mara River Crossing, 10 Nights

Zicasso's travel agents planned every small and big detail of our trip to Nairobi, Maasai Mara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro. They suggested a perfect time. Because of this, we were able to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration, including the Mara River crossing. The guides were very knowledgeable. The pick-up and drop-off service from airports at each place was excellent. Our overall trip was great!

Tanzania Trip Review: Arusha, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Zanzibar, 11-Day Trip

What a wonderful trip! I can't say enough good things about Zicasso’s travel specialist and his team. From the initial planning, which was well curated and well communicated, to responding to any of the changes we needed because of flight timings to finalizing everything, the trip was really a seamless and extremely comfortable experience.

We spent 11 full days in Tanzania and at no time did we feel like we were "on our own." This was especially important because we were traveling with our 12- and 14-year-old kids, and needed to make sure everything went smoothly. But from the moment we landed in Arusha to the moment we left Zanzibar, we really didn't have to think about logistics.

On top of that, the guides who were arranged were knowledgeable, affable, answered all our questions as we went on game drives, and were great. And the accommodations the travel specialist and his team selected in Arusha, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti, and Zanzibar were uniformly excellent.

Finally, we decided on this once-in-a-lifetime trip to celebrate a couple of milestone birthdays and a wedding anniversary. The travel specialist and team made sure our hotels knew this. In the Ngorongoro Crater and in the Serengeti, both the lodges we stayed at held special celebrations for us, which were quite touching.

As you can tell, we loved our trip and all the experiences it brought us. Thank you!

Tanzania Travel Review: Serengeti, Great Migration, Safari Experience, Big Five, Ngorongoro Crater, 1-Week Tour

Communication with our Zicasso travel team was fantastic. They were very responsive to all questions and calmed any concerns we had.

We were met at the airport by our travel agent, who was our guide for the week. He was amazing! He ensured we had the best experience possible – we traveled and explored on our schedule, making sure we saw all the animals and sights we wanted to see.

The Serengeti was everything I imagined it would be. The plains were alive with all kinds of animals, and watching the cheetahs, lions, and leopards hunting was magical. We didn’t see them catch anything, but it was still fantastic to see them in action.

We were there during a drought, so the Great Migration hadn't started yet, but it started raining and we saw thousands of animals gathering to start their long trek. It was a beautiful sight.

Our agent did his best to ensure we saw the Big Five – elephant, leopard, buffalo, lion, and rhino, and we managed to see four of them on our first day out in the Serengeti. We had to wait until the last day in the Ngorongoro Crater to see a rhino, but it was worth the wait.

It was the best vacation I have ever had and our travel agent was a big reason why.

Thank you to our travel team!
