Although we usually travel independently, we decided to use a travel agent for Brazil in part because of the language and in part because of security concerns. We found working with this travel agent to be a good experience in all regards. She was willing to make suggestions for attractions near where we planned to go, and to make adjustments based on our preferences (e.g., a vegetarian restaurant on a tour instead of a steak house). Our agent booked all of the air transportation in a thoughtful way (e.g., transfers from domestic flights to Sao Paulo and then on to an international carrier require a longer layover than usual owing to the distance between terminals). Our travel agent even responded to my wife's request for a confidential recommendation for a good restaurant in Ouro Preto for my surprise birthday dinner. THe travel company's local partner provided excellent guides who spoke fluent English and more important, were very reliable, informative, and appropriately flexible. For example, we were met at the airport by our guides even though two of our flights entailed late arrivals. Happily, in each of the three cities we visited, the same guide provided transfers and private tours for that city over the several days we were there (i.e, we had 3 different guides in 3 different cities). Each guide showed flexibility and sensitivity to our interests. Thanks to the assistance we received, we not only saw what we hoped to see and did what we hoped to do, but were introduced to some new experiences we had not anticipated (e.g., a local weekly samba performance, Brazilian gems). And perhaps the most striking contrast with our previous independent travel was the efficiency with which we were able to get around and to make good use of our limited time (two weeks) in Brazil.

This travel agent was in frequent phone and email contact with us to ensure our itinerary met all of our requests. He also contacted us during our trip to make sure everything was going well. His suggestions to visit Paraty, Ouro Preto and Tirandentes were greatly appreciated because we loved all three locations. We also enjoyed the big cities. At every stop the guides were terrific. They were informed, friendly, insightful, articulate and spoke flawless English. They ensured my wife and I were well taken care of. The drivers were all very skillful as well as friendly. The cars were very comfortable. The accommodations were amazing. Whether it was a large luxury hotel, or a small boutique establishment, we felt like we were in the lap of luxury. All of the internal flights were at comfortable times and went smoothly. During our visit all pick ups and tour times were punctual. It was a big relief at every airport to see a driver holding a sign with our name on it. In summary, I enthusiastically recommend this company at the highest level possible!

We visited 6 different places. In Argentina, Buenos Aires, Bariloche in Patagonia, then Mendoza including a day trip to Aconcagua. Then Iguazu falls, both the Argentinian and Brazilian side of the Falls. In Brazil, Rio and a jungle lodge on the Rio Negro (Amazon) 3 hours outside of Manaus. Our travel specialist at this South America travel agency spent a lot of time with me organizing the trip, picking hotels, deciding on activities. We had a good mix of planned activities and free time. The private guides and tours that our agency arranged for us were great. Our agent was always available if we had any issues or questions - very responsive and helpful. I would absolutely recommend this company for a South American trip.
