Bangkok – Before the Mekong

Welcome to Southeast Asia and the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok. The metropolis is wide-reaching filled with the diversity of a global community, from its neighbors to the far corners of the world. The cityscape stretches into the sky and spreads beyond the horizons, hidden within the shine of the skyline or behind the hills in the distance. The beauty of the city goes beyond its grandeur, hidden within the pockets of its history, where the traditions and culture of Thailand come alive. Along Banglampoo you can find the treasures of the quiet city, filled with cultural identity; the scent of fresh noodles comes from secret restaurants within the apartment buildings. Local bands squeeze into tiny cafes and entertain passersby and loungers. The endless energy of Khaosan Road is close but the steadfast history of Banglampoo persists.

Detailed Description

The famed Mekong River traverses the hills and countryside giving you the opportunity to adventure along its course on this 15-day vacation meant for everyone that has ever wanted to travel through time, journeying beyond the years of modernity and into the landscapes and history that has shaped the spectacular sites and people of Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. Whether exploring the temples of Angkor or drifting down the Nam Song River in an inner tube, the splendor of Southeast Asia is right in front of your eyes, ready for you to take that step into adventure.

Your journey begins in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand where the skyscrapers are as illustrious as the gilded temples. The quiet streets are mythological, present and wondrous for all those that believe enough in their whereabouts to find them. You will quickly settle into the metropolis before venturing to Siem Reap, Cambodia where the city is surrounded by the lush jungle and the endless majesty of Angkor Wat. Explore the ancient city on a guided tour, where the grandeur of the temple and the entire religious complex is yours to explore; from decorated reliefs to towering spires, your days within the trees scouring the jungle for unearthed temples will be nothing less than magical. Arrive in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, where the colonial architecture gives a charming touch to the country’s largest city. Your time along the Mekong starts where the waterway has been a revered highway for city for centuries. Journeying up river brings you to Kratie, a large town, or small city, known for its remaining French architecture and the focused pod of River Dolphins that tend to linger near the harbor.

Once in Laos you will find yourself within the wondrous area of 4,000 Islands, where the Mekong has rushed and washed over the landscape for millennia creating thousands of islands, large and small, within a centralized area. From waterfalls to rolling mountains, whitewater rapids to stunning temples, you can relax in a hammock by the quiet rush of the river or visit the mountainside remains of Khmer relics. Once in Luang Prabang you will venture into the second largest city in Laos, where the jungle feels like it has crept into the city streets in absolute artistry. The Jewel of Laos shines beneath the mountain summits and lush trees, where elephants can rehabilitate, temples can sparkle and every morning monks ask for alms. Behind the charming streets of Vang Vieng you can float down the river in relaxed style while the landscape sprouts around you. Traverse the streets of Vientiane, Laos’s capital city, where the French bakeries continue to produce remarkable fresh baked goods, the beauty of the culture and the country continue to shine in the art and along the streets, and the oldest stupa in Laos practically glows. Upon your return to Bangkok you journey through Southeast Asia will finish; however, the adventure doesn’t have to end.

Review: Luxury Southeast Asia Tour, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh, Luang Prabang, Halong Bay, Cu Chi Tunnels Tour

We went to Hanoi, Ho chi minh city in Vietnam, Siem Reap in Cambodia and Luang Prabang in Laos.

We had a great vacation. It was really easy working with our agent at this Southeast Asia travel company. She was very prompt in getting back to us with all our concerns and questions. We went back and forth with the the hotels we wanted and how we wanted to arrange our site seeing schedule. The agent worked with us and guided and helped us all the way. Very professional ! We would recommend using this company to our friends.

The guides were there to pick us up on time and waiting.  The vans were clean and nice. The guides were knowledgeable and helpful.

This was our first time using a tour company through Zicasso as before this we were doing group tours only but were finding the pace there too hectic and felt were not getting enough time to look and enjoy things the way we would have liked to. We like to travel a lot and feel would like to do things the way we did for our Indo china tour.

I have food allergies and our agent conveyed the same to our gudes snd they made sure i was able to get food I was comfortable with.

Our vacation ended with a blissful few days of R&R at the resort on Koh Samui.

Thailand, Cambodia & Laos Luxury Vacation Review: Bangkok, Siem Reap, Chiang Rai, Vientiane, Mekong River, Floating Markets, Museum
Overall, a very positive experience. What I love about traveling is what you learn about yourself and how you respond. The travel agency offered the vehicle for this to become a reality. The agency and partners usually came through without a hiccup. There were three outstanding guides: one in Siem Reap, in Chiang Rai, and in Vientiane. They were knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. All accommodations were excellent and most guides offered restaurant suggestions within walking distance. The timing of tours and length offered the  right amount of time to enjoy the highlights. Also, guides were able to add suggestions based on our interests.

Review: Southeast Asia Tour, Cambodia, Vietnam & Laos, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang, Hanoi, Halong Bay Cruise, Angkor Wat

This was a 14 day itinerary which included Cambodia (Siem Reap, Phnom Penh), Laos (Luang Prabang) and Vietnam (Hanoi).  Our travel company was responsive to our our desire to see historical sites as well as experience nature.  They also made excellent recommendations including spending time in Vietnam which was actually one of the highlights of our trip (Halong Bay).  The itinerary was well-selected with excellent guides in each city.  Transfers were relatively seamless and we had a consistent guide and driver in each city.  There was time to rest in the afternoon or we modified the schedule if we were fatigued.  Overall the trip was well-planned and we felt well cared for.

Travel Review: Solo Southeast Asia Tour, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hanoi, Hue, Phnom Penh, Angkor Wat, Killing Fields, Cu Chi Tunnel

This travel company provided me with a trip of a lifetime.  Three countries (Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos), six locations, six hotels, four domestic flights, six separate guides and six drivers, all executed without a hitch.  It was one of the most satisfying mind-expansive vacations I have ever had.  From Angkor Wat to the Killing Fields of Phnom Penh, the Tomb and Temple visits in Hue, the street food of Hanoi to the Mekong Delta, Buddhist caves and Buddhist alms giving in Luang Prabang, Laos, were just some of the daily highlights.  But what was amazing was the organization.  There was always someone at the airport, hotel and all the many sites to guide me.  I felt well taken care of and safe which allowed me to focus on the fascinating culture of Southeast Asia.  I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Review: Thailand & Cambodia 10-Day Trip, Bangkok, Siem Reap, Phuket, Angkor Wat, Cave Kayaking, Snorkel

We had a very enjoyable trip to Bangkok, Cambodia (Angor Wat) and Phuket.  Most of the arrangements were carried out well.  The visit to Siem Reap, Cambodia to see Angor Wat and related temples was amazing and well coordinated from landing at the airport to return to the airport.  The coordination of the Phuket leg of our visit was more chaotic as our guide there did not provide us with an updated itinerary and we had to keep calling in to see when and where we were to meet.  Overall, I requested 4 star to 5 star accommodations, but the venues in Bangkok and Phuket seemed to be quite aged and closer to 3 star accommodations.  The planning of activities by the agency was excellent and we enjoyed the bike ride tour, elephant sanctuary, snorkel trip, and cave kayaking.   In general, I would recommend this agency however, I might make changes to the guides used in Phuket and also upgrade the accommodations suggested via Zicasso as most of the clientele of Zicasso is looking for at least 4 star accommodations if available.
