Day 1

Vientiane – The Beginning Movement

Welcome to Vientiane, the quiet capital city of Laos. The streets are decorated with remnants of the country’s French Colonial past. You can see antique French mansions lining the wide avenues behind noodle stalls that emanate aromas of fresh garlic and ginger. You can catch the scent of fresh baked baguettes that drift from the many cafes and bakeries in the center of town. Ancient Buddhist temples are scattered through the winding street and the skyline is enhanced by the impressive architecture of the Patuxai Victory Monument.

The large concrete arch resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and is decorated with images of Hindu gods. The five towers atop the main structure are designed in the traditional Laotian style. The tower was built in the mid 20th century. When you stroll through the park the palm trees rustle in the breeze. The four ponds in the courtyard represent a lotus flower. The elegance of the capital is in its quiet beauty by which you have already been charmed.

Review: Luxury Southeast Asia Tour, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh, Luang Prabang, Halong Bay, Cu Chi Tunnels Tour

We went to Hanoi, Ho chi minh city in Vietnam, Siem Reap in Cambodia and Luang Prabang in Laos.

We had a great vacation. It was really easy working with our agent at this Southeast Asia travel company. She was very prompt in getting back to us with all our concerns and questions. We went back and forth with the the hotels we wanted and how we wanted to arrange our site seeing schedule. The agent worked with us and guided and helped us all the way. Very professional ! We would recommend using this company to our friends.

The guides were there to pick us up on time and waiting.  The vans were clean and nice. The guides were knowledgeable and helpful.

This was our first time using a tour company through Zicasso as before this we were doing group tours only but were finding the pace there too hectic and felt were not getting enough time to look and enjoy things the way we would have liked to. We like to travel a lot and feel would like to do things the way we did for our Indo china tour.

I have food allergies and our agent conveyed the same to our gudes snd they made sure i was able to get food I was comfortable with.

Travel Review: Southeast Asia Tour, Cambodia & Vietnam, Siem Reap, Hoi An, Hue, Mekong Delta, Halong Bay, Angkor Temples

We booked a three-week trip to Vietnam with a side trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia, and the Angkor temple complex. We are three 60-something women who had never been to Southeast Asia before. Before we left, our travel company patiently helped us customize our trip, down to the last details, providing great advice along the way. Our trip started in Hanoi, and our guide was there at the airport to pick us up and take us to our hotel, even though it took longer than we expected to get our visas. The hotel they booked for us on the south shore of Hoan Kiem Lake, was lovely and it turned out to be a terrific location. Throughout the trip, which included stops in Ha Long Bay, Hue, Hoi An, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City, we felt well taken care of, with great hotels throughout. And our guides were flexible enough to change our itineraries on the fly. For example, one of my companions fell and injured her leg in a market in Hoi An. We asked if we could rearrange the itinerary to accommodate a trip to a hospital clinic, and they happily obliged. And later they modified the schedule for my friend, so she could skip some of the more strenuous activities.

The trip itself was wonderful. We experienced the markets, the organic gardens, the temples and pagodas, the waterways and the food that makes Vietnam so unique and wonderful. All of our local guides were so helpful and willing to put up with our eccentricities.

The only glitch we had on the trip was when we arrived at the Siem Reap airport for our flight to Ho Chi Minh City. It turned out we did not have tickets on the flight. We called our travel company and immediately got a call back -- we would be met at the airport by a guide with tickets for the next flight out, and in the meantime he would take us to a lovely nearby hotel and buy us lunch. He also offered to get us a room if we wanted to shower or change clothes, but we just stayed in the restaurant overlooking the lovely swimming pool and sipped our mojitos, courtesy of of the company.

Also I should mention the value. Zicasso connected us with three travel agents who submitted proposals. This company was the only one that really understood our budget parameters and what we wanted to do within the budget. We felt the price was quite reasonable and were very happy with our trip.

Vietnam & Cambodia Luxury Tour Review: Lan Ha Bay 2-Night Boat Tour, Scooter Food Tour in Hue, Row Boating through Bird Sanctuary

My wife and I just returned from a 3-week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia organized by the travel company.  We had used a company referred by Zicasso for a trip to Argentina in 2018 and were curious to see if we would be as satisfied after this trip as we had been after that one.  Suffice it to say, we were not disappointed!  This company did a terrific job in organizing our trip, securing comfortable, welcoming and well-located accommodations, setting us up with incredible guides with terrific local knowledge and very good English (we're from the US), arranging all our in-country flights and planning some extremely engaging and memorable outings and adventures.

While I can't be sure, I think they also dialed up the weather - we only experienced 1 day of light precipitation in 19 days in the country!  They ensured we spent time in the North (Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Lan Ha Bay), Central (Hue and Hoi An), and South (Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta) parts of Vietnam and the temples (Siem Reap) in Cambodia. They also arranged an extensive array of food experiences and venues and provided many other memorable personal encounters with locals throughout Vietnam.

Without fail, every day revealed many interesting aspects of the culture and history of Vietnam and Cambodia.  Our contact at the company was always responsive to our inquiries and requests - both before we left the US and while we were on our trip - and took time to meet with us personally in Ho Chi Minh City.  We were happy to be able to express our appreciation for his efforts in designing such a personalized adventure.  HIGHLY recommended.

Travel Review: Luxury Southeast Asia Vacation, Cambodia & Vietnam, Siem Reap, Saigon, Hoi An, Angkor Wat, Halong Bay Cruise, Opera

From the start to the finish, this travel agency did a marvelous job in helping us set up our 19 day trip to Vietnam and Cambodia in Feb. - March 2018. The four of us, two couples, had lots of ideas and questions about the trip. Our representative was wonderful. I told her what we were thinking of, our budget, what we wanted to see and where our focus was and she devised an itinerary that hit all the objectives of our trip. We did a bunch of tweaking and sending questions and concerns over  time and she answered all very promptly and made sure that what we wanted in the trip was fulfilled.  When I told her we wanted to up-grade our hotels, she handled all the changes  without any problems.  She phoned several times to make sure all was going well with our planning and that we were happy with what she had set up for us.

Our guides were fabulous. They did everything and more to make sure we had the experiences we wanted. If they thought that what was supposed to happen that day wasn't what they would recommend, ie., eating at certain food markets, etc., they pointed us in another direction. They took into account some of the physical limitations of several of us and made adjustments accordingly. They were friendly, helpful, caring and fun. At several points in our journey we had some requests for things that weren't in the itinerary and they made sure that those requests were fulfilled. We couldn't have asked for better service. More that once we asked where we could buy a certain thing and they went out of their way to find the store where it could be procured, even after the tour for the day was done and they were off their time with us. Wonderful service. All of our drivers were excellent, friendly and helpful. They always had bottles of cold water for us when we returned to the vans, which was much appreciated.

Our hotels were perfect. The hotel in Hanoi, our private boat in Ha Long Bay and the staff on board, the hotel in Hue, the boutique hotel in Hoi An, where we had a wonderful 2 day rest period to enjoy the beach and relax,  the resort in Saigon, which was luxury at it's best, and the hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia were the perfect places to relax, rest and explore after our days of seeing the sights. They all had wonderful breakfasts and the staff of all of them were friendly, helpful and informative when we needed some advice.

They also made getting our visas easy and painless, and arranged our internal flights and the flight to Cambodia with no problems.

I highly recommend this travel company for any trip you are planning to Vietnam. Their service was outstanding and we have no complaints about anything they booked, recommended or suggested.

Travel Review: Vietnam & Cambodia Trip, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hue, Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Vespa Tour, Cooking Class, 13-Day Tour

We loved our trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. We appreciated the sites we visited, the supportive arrangements, and the facilities. But here are things we especially liked that stand out in our travel company experience.

The tour was tailored exactly to our wants and it was flexible to making substitutions at our request. We felt like we were in charge at all times, not simply part of a lock-step one-size-fits-all tour. The guides were perfect for our needs. What made them so well selected was that not only was each deep in the historical, cultural, religious, and gastronomic issues of the places we visited, but they had personal stories, connections, and anecdotes that enabled us to know them as persons and the sites we visited in greater depth. Each guide had a unique personality and perspective, and each illuminated a different aspect of Vietnam or Cambodia's past and present. Specifically, our guide in Hanoi had an academic depth, political awareness, and objectivity that made Hanoi come alive as informed by the history of his family; our guide in Hue was equally informative and provided a sense of how the "American War" impacted the middle of the country through his experience as an interpreter and soldier for the American Army; his sense of humor and political perspective and his ability to analyze cultural differences were a great match for the dynamism of Ho Chi Minh City. Our guide in Cambodia possessed such a detailed understanding of the complex evolution of the relationship of Hinduism and Buddhism and so rich a grasp of architectural issues that he made all of Siem Reap's treasures come alive for us. We liked that every guide displayed a concern for the support of the local "super" economy (rather than purchases in souvenir or "super" stores. The Vespa tours in Hue and Siem Reap were wonderful, the cherry on top of our trip's sundae. We loved the introduction to home cooking and food making in Hue and the night life in Siem Reap. They added a rich dimension of participation and sheer fun to the mix of activities. Their guides were excellent, too.

Here are some suggestions that others might find helpful to know in booking future tours through the travel company:

Where a hotel has extra facilities (eg swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, etc.) The travel company should mention them in the notes. If we had known about those in the Mekong Delta or Siem Reap in advance, we would have brought bathing suits or other gear to take advantage of them. The pre-set meals featured pretty much the same menu wherever we went; and in several cases in both Vietnam and Cambodia the food and/or service was not the best in quality. It was as if all the lunches offered in an American tour were at McDonalds. In such a case you would learn little about American cooking or culture. We were allowed to make some obvious substitutions (eg fresh spring rolls for fried ones), but not larger substitutions or direct ordering from the non-fixed menu. We understand the benefit for the tour in the fixed price meal with a restaurant with which the travel company has an arrangement. Still, we think that free ordering ought to be considered. We certainly would have been pleased to pay more for that privilege and think others would, too. We think you might consider offering Vespa or similar tours in every city. They really spiced up the trip. In some cases, we think a listing of optional sites to visit that are not on the primary itinerary might be an additional benefit and might end up adding profitable benefits to the travel company. For example, we consider ourselves to be fairly sophisticated travelers and typically read a lot before taking a trip. However, like any traveler to a new place, we discover things while about a place that we had not thought about or understood but that revealed themselves while were on tour.

Review: Southeast Asia Tour, Cambodia, Vietnam & Laos, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang, Hanoi, Halong Bay Cruise, Angkor Wat

This was a 14 day itinerary which included Cambodia (Siem Reap, Phnom Penh), Laos (Luang Prabang) and Vietnam (Hanoi).  Our travel company was responsive to our our desire to see historical sites as well as experience nature.  They also made excellent recommendations including spending time in Vietnam which was actually one of the highlights of our trip (Halong Bay).  The itinerary was well-selected with excellent guides in each city.  Transfers were relatively seamless and we had a consistent guide and driver in each city.  There was time to rest in the afternoon or we modified the schedule if we were fatigued.  Overall the trip was well-planned and we felt well cared for.
