Bangkok – Cultural Welcomes in the Thai Capital

Bangkok is often a misunderstood city and sometimes passed over by most. It is big and bustling, and not always too inviting after a long flight, but the city is full of secrets to discover and is a place that excites the soul. You will be greeted at the airport by your guide and spend the afternoon relaxing, the hotel having a rooftop pool high above Bangkok’s artery, the Chao Phraya River. Go exploring around dusk and dip into small temples, walk through streets of food stalls, join the locals along the riverbank, and discover what hides behind the city’s busy facade. Detailed Description

Sonorous chanting rings through a hilltop temple as tree roots wrap themselves around the remains of an ancient city. A railway line surges through the jungle then stops while traders float through a market, their boats laden with fruits. These are the scenes of Thailand and Cambodia, two countries steeped into heritage. Here, the past becomes part of the modern day as even at ancient kingdom ruins, there is a sense of history that blurs into the 21stcentury. Even in a bustling capital city, you can feel the pull of yesteryear. Handcrafted to celebrate all of the cultural treasures, your two-week tour will cover the best of Thailand and Cambodia with five unique overnight destinations and many beautiful places in between.

Land first in Bangkok, a city of color and surprise. The past juxtaposes with the new here, as told through local markets, magnificent temples, riverside scenes and, a sultry evening atmosphere. With a strong local guide, you will find it to be a city full of surprises, and one that happily confounds some of its reputations. Stop at a floating market on route to two nights in Kanchanaburi, where World War II stories emanate from a jungle railway line. Ayutthaya is exquisite, an early Siam capital lost in a redolent state of ruin. Sukhothai is even more expressive, the earliest Siam capital a place of rising stupas, evocative temples, spiritual standouts and a real sense of past glory. You will have a couple of nights here to bask in a mostly 13th-century world.

From here, you will journey north to Chiang Mai, stopping to visit local villages and eighth-century remains. Meet with monks, visit stilt houses, and explore the ancient art of umbrella making, before several nights in Thailand’s most cultural city. Chiang Mai is relaxed, and the sunset from its hilltop temple is a great way to start the experience. The city epitomizes the blur of old and new, whether you are in the jungle or at a night market. Angkor completes this handcrafted tour as you fly to Siem Reap to spend two full days in this heart of old Khmer with one day dedicated to religious histories and another to the royal city. Find yourself alone in the incredible ruins, discover how the old empire influences today’s villages, and watch the sun come down across the temple-dappled plains – there’s nowhere else like it.

The trip covered a lot of ground, with four cities in Thailand and Siem Reap in Cambodia. The details and the logistics of the trip were timely and well communicated by Zicasso's travel company. The guides were punctual, well-informed, and passionate about the countries' histories.

Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam Vacation Review: Elephant Sanctuary, Private Tours, Local Culture, Cuisine, Angkor Wat, Cu Chi Tunnels, Trekking, Biking, Boating, 10-Night Trip

Our Zicasso travel agent did a wonderful job taking our requests and styling a complex, detailed itinerary. Everything worked perfectly. The guides all communicated with each other and the drivers were always at the expected locations. All accommodations were awesome and well-located.

Beginning in Chiang Mai, Thailand, we visited Doi Inthanon National Park, the Doi Suthep mountain temple, and had an absolutely awesome time visiting with elephants at the elephant sanctuary, among other things. We even got to play with a two-week-old elephant. All our dining recommendations were awesome and we particularly enjoyed our time with the guides.

Next, we flew to Krabi for unforgettable views and relaxing beach time. Again, the resort was awesome. We even went mountain climbing on Railay Beach. My son got engaged at the New Year's gala at our hotel, which was spectacular; an unbelievable stay. We particularly enjoyed our time with the guide!

Next, we finished in Bangkok, where the highlight was riding in the tuk-tuks and doing a city food tour. Our guide was so awesome and knowledgeable.

Unfortunately, eight of the 10 of us then flew home, while my wife and I continued to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Our guide was such a good travel companion and we left Cambodia with a true knowledge of Cambodian life/history/temples. He was very forthcoming about his life growing up under the Khmer Rouge. Although a long day, the temple tour was unbelievable, culminating in Angkor Wat. Our hotel was awesome and blocks from the nightlife on Pub Street. It was such a great stay.

Next, we flew to Saigon. We were met by our guide, who noticed we were hungry and immediately stopped at a local street food vendor for our first foray into bun bo. It was so good. The mix of history, countryside visits, and city tours with our guide was awesome and she even left us with a customized pictorial of our visit. The other excursion that needs mention is the Vespa city and food tour. Our main guide was delightful, giving us a true taste of Saigon culture and food. The drivers were so great.  This tour finished with a surprise visit to a local bar/club, where we had front-row seats to an awesome Latin band for a nightcap. It was truly unforgettable. Also, we cannot forget our visit to the Cu Chi tunnels, where our guide did a great job educating and touring us through this unbelievable history.

Then, we flew to Hanoi to another awesome location. Highlights in Hanoi would be visiting the Hoa Lo prison, having dinner in a local family's home, and especially the Minsk backstreet tour. Our tour drivers were so awesome. This excursion really gave us a feel for the city/backstreets, as well as an idea of the frightening life of riding a motorbike through the city and back alleys of Hanoi. It was truly unforgettable. This tour finished with my knees about a foot away from the speeding train at Hanoi train station, another can't-miss site!

Next, we visited Ninh Binh for trekking, biking, and bamboo boating. The scenery was awesome and it was definitely a nice break from the busy city.

The trip finished with a two-night, three-day cruise on Hạ Long Bay. The scenery was unbelievable and the staff were excellent; so attentive and informative.

This trip truly was spectacular and we are so happy that Zicasso connected us with our agent to make all of this happen. We couldn't be happier with the entire trip!

Vietnam, Cambodia Tour Review: Ha Long Bay, Angkor Wat, Village, Cruise, Bike Ride, Kayaking, Buddhist Blessing, Water Puppet Show, 2 Weeks

We traveled to Vietnam and Cambodia from May 8 to 22, 2025. This was my fifth trip through Zicasso. As expected, the itinerary was excellent and exactly what we were looking for. I did double my budget from what I initially sent to Zicasso.

All of the lodging selections were outstanding. Along with the tours of the Ho Chi Minh complex, Hue Imperial City, the Angkor Wat complex, and numerous other temples and pagodas, we experienced a cable car ride to a mountain summit, a walk through an ethnic village, a water puppet show, a Cambodian circus, a Vietnamese cooking class, an evening lantern boat ride in Hoi An, and dinner in one of the top 50 restaurants in Asia. The water puppets are an ancient Vietnamese art (11th century) and the show was extraordinary.

Cambodia, Laos Trip Review: Angkor Wat, Luang Prabang, Battambang, Alms-Giving Ceremony, 20 Days

We had a fantastic trip to Cambodia and Laos!!! Zicasso’s tour company went above and beyond our expectations.

Every guide and driver was awesome. They were prompt, informative, helpful, and, most importantly, very personable. If there were any concerns, the guides handled the issue in a professional and timely manner.

The hotels and accommodations were always five-star and exceeded our expectations.

On our trip, we journeyed from the hectic life of cities to the simple subsistence life of remote villages. We learned about local history, culture, religion, and food. We saw Angkor Wat, literally one of the wonders of the world, as well as seeing the horrors of the reign of the Khmer Rouge.

In Cambodia and Laos, this trip was full of wonderful experiences, education, and excitement. It broadened our understanding of the world, just as travel should. Thank you for recommending this travel company to us.

Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore Tour Review: Khmer Cooking Class, History, Geography, Culture, Rural Areas, Private Guides, Boutique Hotels, 3 Weeks

Zicasso’s travel agency worked patiently with us over several months to organize a perfect four-country tour through Indochina, doing exactly what we asked, including a Khmer cooking class with a local chef.

We were met on arrival in each county by an experienced English-speaking guide who was well-versed in the history, geography, and culture of each location, and they were just delightful people too. They took us to rural villages and through urban mazes to get a close look at the daily life of the citizens. We chatted with farmers in the field and had meals in local homes. Our agency booked amazing hotels for each stop, from an eco-lodge in the mountains of Vietnam to a spectacular seaside resort in Thailand.

We had contact names and numbers for agency representatives in each country. They were incredibly responsive, even after hours, when we had a small medical issue. They gave us a completely seamless experience from arrival to departure, with no wasted time. Vacation time is very precious, so we prefer to work with professionals who know the area intimately and take the time to understand our objectives rather than pushing a canned itinerary.
