Detailed Description
The mesmerizing history of ancient civilizations stretches from Thebes to Constantinople, now Luxor to Istanbul, and it is a history partially told through the world-famous monuments. The Great Pyramids of Giza, the 3,000-year-old city of Ephesus and King Tut’s tomb hiding beneath another king’s tomb weave compelling tales of ancient wonder. Across this landscape, you will find many of the ancient world’s most astonishing legacies, and these sights will demand your full attention as you wander through. The history remains alive as the call to prayer rings out from the Blue Mosque, and churches cut into the fairy tale chimneys and rocks of Cappadocia, while the grand temples of Karnak and Luxor showcase the scale of the old world. Explore Egypt and Turkey, and you will discover that the legacy of the civilizations brings an immersive experience that will envelop you in the beauty of these amazing ancient empires.
Your handcrafted 13-day tour will move between the major historical highlights of Egypt and Turkey, beginning with King Ramses II and Pharaoh Khufu of the ancient Egyptian dynasties, and then flitter through the Greeks, Romans, and Ottomans. These are two countries with an almost embarrassment of riches, so the focus of the tour is not an attempt to see everything, rather your private guides will help to provide a detailed focus on the monuments and narratives that made the ancient world before they began to shape the modern world. Almost all of your tours will be private, and you will be led by the countries’ best guides as they shape the story that goes beyond the sculpted figures and towering columns.
You will begin in Cairo and ride out to the pyramids at sunset to begin your adventure. Find the gems of the Egyptian Museum, including those from King Tut’s tomb and then wander inside the ancient wonder of the world to appreciate the rich detail of the design. Fly next to Aswan and spend time on a River Nile cruise for a relaxed way to explore the old world with stops at the seductive temples that dot the banks. Climb aboard in Luxor, and you will spend time immersed in the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes, including a hot air balloon ride above the Valley of the Kings and a morning walk past the sphinxes to Luxor Temple.
Your brief overnight in Cairo the next day is followed by a direct morning flight to Istanbul, where a couple of full days will give you time to appreciate the stories behind the old city. Beautiful mosques welcome you, elaborate palaces glisten on the river, seductive bazaars emit their smells and sounds, and you will follow the story from Byzantine to Ottoman rule. Cappadocia’s history spans a similar time, but the landscape is very different, a fairy tale world of ineffable rock chimneys that are dotted with underground cities, surreal caves, and churches that hide in the valley. Look forward to a spectacular hot air balloon flight that will leave you speechless, and then you will complete your luxury tour in Ephesus, the great Greek city from the Ionian League. Like so many that have gone before, you will find yourself immersed in a story that can only be explained when you are actually there, walking across the rocks of history.

Our journey through Turkey and Egypt in May 2025 with Zicasso's travel company was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we landed until our final departure, every detail was thoughtfully arranged, making the experience seamless, immersive, and truly unforgettable.
What set this trip apart was our exceptional tour guides. In both countries, the guides were not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also passionate, warm, and attentive. They brought the rich histories of Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Cairo, Luxor, and beyond vividly to life. Whether we were exploring ancient ruins or navigating vibrant bazaars, our guides made every moment engaging and meaningful.
A special mention must go to our tour organizer. His behind-the-scenes coordination, quick responsiveness, and personal care were evident throughout. He ensured every transition was smooth, every need was anticipated, and every traveler felt individually looked after. His dedication and professionalism elevated the entire experience.
We returned home with a deeper appreciation of these remarkable destinations, lasting memories, and a strong desire to travel again with our travel company. We highly recommended them for anyone seeking a thoughtfully curated, high-touch travel experience.

This was my second Zicasso trip, the first being to Peru in 2024, so I had full confidence in their travel company and was delighted by the level of care and attention to detail throughout the trip.
I essentially had three trips while in Turkey. I arrived a day early to attend a six-day cooking school that was independently arranged. The travel company smoothly organized my airport pickup and first-night hotel. After the cooking school, I was again booked in the original hotel (old town, close to major sites, clean, nice), and my daughter joined me for a week-long tour of Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Ephesus.
The guides in each region were knowledgeable, though we could have made do with fewer facts (height in meters of the Blue Mosque, area in square meters of Hagia Sophia, number of sheep in the country) and had more free time to explore on our own. We loved the major Istanbul sites, the Bosphorus cruise, and lunch on the Asia side. We were delighted with our cave hotel in Cappadocia and the hot-air balloon ride on my daughter's birthday. We loved strolling through Ephesus.
All the internal flights were arranged, booked, and checked in by the agent, so all we had to do was show up on time. The vans that transported us were clean and nice, with good drivers. After my daughter left, I was booked for three nights on a gulet, with stops on the Mediterranean. It was a nice way to slow down and finish the busy trip.
The highlight of my travels was dinner at my agent's home with his lovely family. He even arranged for me to find some earrings like those of his mother, which I had admired, and then drove me to the airport. Above and beyond!

Through Zicasso’s travel company and its agent, my husband and I had a wonderful experience in Egypt and Jordan.
While we loved all the sites, the most unexpected visit was to the gorgeous Wadi Rum in Jordan. We were glad we missed the flash flood at Petra by a few hours, so we were still able to enjoy the ancient city and lovely natural canyon. And we were only minimally touched in Luxor by the sandstorm in Cairo!
The whole experience was five-star, especially in terms of the sites visited, guides provided, hotels, and kindness of the people.
Thank you for arranging such a memorable and enlightening trip! We strongly recommend traveling to Egypt and Jordan through our travel agent and his team "on the ground”.

The trip was excellent. We really had a great time! The "ground staff" (drivers, airport greeters, etc.) were terrific. We had four guides.
Our hotel in Abu Simbel and our hotel in Cairo were great.
The cruise ship, the ship in Egypt, was wonderful. The food could have been better, but the entertainment, cleanliness, and staff were all first-rate.
The lady who led the food tour was wonderful. Her English was very good and she was very personable.
Our guide at Abu Simbel was terrific and knowledgeable, and able to find shade on a hot day.
Our guide in Cairo was very knowledgeable, although we struggled to understand everything he said. (Although his English was much better than our Arabic.) As we went to many of the great sites in Egypt, I wanted to buy souvenirs, but I wasn't able to get near the shops. I have heard that souvenir shop owners will, at times, try to rip off tourists, but I don't know if that was the only reason he wouldn't let us near one.
Our fourth guide in Luxor was also very good, personable, and intelligent. However, it was hot and we could have used a break in the shade. He was a lot younger and more fit than we were and didn't seem to notice we were struggling.
Thank you for putting this trip of a lifetime together for us. Ron is taking his grandson to Rome and is using Zicasso.

It's hard to know where to start. First off, everything went as smoothly as could be. I traveled with a friend to Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, and Alexandria. We also took a four-night cruise on a dahabiya.
Our guide in Cairo and our guide in Luxor and Aswan were excellent, and presented us with far more information than it was possible to digest. Our guide in Luxor and Aswan, in particular, gave us a history lesson as we were sailing on the boat, as I sometimes found it hard to contextualize all that we were seeing. That was an enormous help.
We were taken to a couple of shops in Luxor and Aswan, and I'm always a little nervous about bargaining, as I worry I will come out on the losing end and resent being taken advantage of. I didn't buy anything at the alabaster shop, as I felt their prices started very high. I did buy some essential oils and a handcrafted bottle at a shop in Aswan, and though I don't know if I paid too much, I was very happy with what I bought, including a gift for a friend, who was thrilled.
My mobility is limited and I fatigue easily, so I was apprehensive about going on this trip and yet still eager to visit Egypt. The first few days I was very jet lagged, having traveled nearly 40 hours, and I was somewhat dazed and confused and didn't take everything in like I wanted to. But as time went on, I got progressively more into the journey.
The cruise on the dahabiya was so relaxing. We would see some sights, but also have time to gaze out to the river banks dotted with date palms while lounging on a chair. I kept pinching myself to think that I was sailing on the Nile River.
We met three other pairs of travelers, who were very pleasant. We had a barbecue on shore one night, where some hardy travelers could swim in the cold Nile River. There was local music and dancing. Ordinarily, I hate to dance, but they forced us all to join and before you know it, we were having a blast. The next night there was a belly dancer before dinner on board. If you can afford it, a small dahabiya is the way to go—far better, I can only imagine, than a huge cruise ship where you're stumbling over masses of people.
We took a side trip by plane to Abu Simbel. For some reason, our regular guides did not accompany us and a couple of Nubian guides took us around. They were subpar in their guidance, but very pleasant. And just to see Abu Simbel was worth the 3.45am wake-up call. Absolutely breathtaking; I will never get over it.
Before taking this trip, I was apprehensive, as I said, about my ability to get around, but our guide in Cairo, especially, was extremely considerate in making it possible for me to see everything in a way that was as smooth as possible. I am very grateful to him. He was a delightful man—warm, humorous, engaging, and, of course, highly knowledgeable. And our driver was lovely and the most amazing driver I have ever seen.
When I returned home, a friend who had been to Egypt last year asked me what my favorite experiences were. It's So hard to choose, but I would pick the Valley of the Kings for the brilliantly preserved and colorful iconography, Abu Simbel for its sheer overwhelming magnificence, and, of course, sailing on the Nile.

We had an excellent trip with Zicasso’s tour company. Every representative we interacted with during the trip was very professional and helpful. The Egyptologists were extremely knowledgeable. We were escorted and assisted with all of our transfers between Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan, which was much appreciated.
