Day 1

Dahab – The Tranquil Bedouin Ambience of the Red Sea

Dahab is the antithesis of Sharm el Sheikh. One is calm and traditional as the long promenade is dominated by small cafes that laze above the water. The other is large and commercial as it is populated by large-scale resorts. A clue to the difference is found in the history. Dahab has old Bedouin roots while Sharm el Sheikh was initially a navel port. You will discover this difference upon your airport arrival in Sharm el Sheikh where you will be transferred privately to a boutique luxury hotel that stands serenely above the water in Dahab. From your private terrace you will enjoy uninterrupted views of the Red Sea and its unique blue-green color, which will be a constant over the next four days.

No activities will be planned for the day since the local atmosphere is ideal for settling into the escapist rhythm of a vacation. You can wander along the promenade and stop in one of the cafes or restaurants for a quiet drink. Then, take a walk away from the small town and it will take only ten minutes before you are completely alone. Dahab does not have a typical sandy beach as meant for sunbathing, but the waves lap gently against the rocks and the salty smell of the sea will be a constant.

Detailed Description

Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula can be breathtakingly silent. The only sounds will come from the wind whipping across the dunes or your own breathing beneath the water. Wilderness will envelop you at every turn as rugged mountains, remote reefs, pristine beaches, and rippling dunes surround you. It is as if the world has stood still, a feeling intensified when you travel with the Bedouin to camp where the desert meets the sea. Few places on the planet will feel as escapist while still being able to provide contemporary comfort. The camp and waterfront hotel on this itinerary will effortlessly blend nature with a reassuring level of luxury.

Evocative and enchanting, the Sinai is where the raw beauty of the desert and the water come together and this exclusive safari has been handcrafted to celebrate the best of both. You will dive the legendary sites around Dahab, which will allow you to absorb the inimitability of Red Sea life. Then you will cross the desert by camel on a unique journey to the tiny Bedouin village of Ras Abu Galum. Some of the Red Sea’s most untouched reefs are found here and you will have as much time as you desire to dive them between your camel rides onto the desert peaks for sunrise and sunset.

All the dives will be privately guided and you will enjoy a minimum of ten dives during the safari. Three days of diving in Dahab will allow you to visit a wide range of sites, including the surreal Blue Hole and Napoleon Reef. These dive sites will showcase the Red Sea’s diversity, with a mix of shallow and deep sites, as well as boat and shore entries. The two days of diving around Ras Abu Galum will primarily consist of vast shallow sites rich in color and life whose inaccessibility has been integral to keeping them absolutely pristine. From Ras Abu Galum you can choose to return to Dahab by camel or by road. Both routes will reveal a rugged wilderness that connects you with nature.

Great trip to Istanbul and Cappadocia, Turkey followed by a beach stay in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Everything went as planned, from arrival and the pickup and transfer, the tour guides were excellent. Never missed a beat and all expectations were either met or exceeded.

Travel Review: Tour of Egypt, Cairo, Luxor, Sharm El Shikh, Ismailia, Alexandria, Hot Air Balloon Tour, Mt Sanai Hiking

We just returned from a wonderful trip to Egypt (Dec 2017 - 10 days). Our trip was entirely managed by this travel company and we visited Cairo, Luxor, Sharm El Sheikh, Ismailia, Fayoum and Alexandria. Everything from airport shuttle, tours, guides, hotels, dining etc was well managed to our delight by the agency. The tour managers, guides and drivers were very friendly and the guides were very knowledgeable about history, culture, local food and so on. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Improvement Areas:

1) Some of the group activities ( Hot air ballon and snorkeling trip to Ras Mohamed) was sold to us as private activities. One activity was delayed and crowded and the other, we had to skip it.

2) Egypt Air travel - Our ticketing within Egypt wasn't handled properly, we had to wait for more than 5 hours at the airport on our trip from Luxor to Sharm El Sheikh. We had to reach Sharm El Sheikh pretty late than planned and nothing was offered to accomodate the change and inconvenience.

Special Mentions:

Our tour manager at Cairo, was very friendly and took care of us very well. Our guide for Cairo, Alexandria, Fayoum and Ismailia was very knowledgeable. He went above and beyond in meeting our needs - local food, activities etc. Best drivers of our entire tripOur tour guide at Luxor was very good in explaining historical things to us in simpler terms. Our tour guide at Mt Sinai

We faced some issues, but the wonderful work of the ground team ( Tour managers, Guides and Drivers) helped us leave Egypt with a big smile on our faces. We made lot of friends during this trip.

Review: Tour of Egypt, Luxor, Cairo, Sharm el Sheik, Nile Cruise, Red Sea Snorkeling, Valley of the Kings & Queens

We met friends from Abu Dhabi and travelled to Egypt and the Sinai peninsula.  Our goal was to see the usual things, including  the pyramids, visit tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Queens and to snorkel in the Red Sea.  Our group consisted of 4 adults and two children, ages 13 and 10.  We also took a cruise down the Nile, which was very enjoyable.

The trip was well organized, and mostly,  the guides and drivers appeared when they said they would. We were sorry that on our last day, two bombings of Coptic churches occurred .  Had that occurred before we left, we probably would not have gone.  That being said, the people we met were friendly and we felt very safe.  I walked around Luxor at night to find a pharmacy when I felt ill.   We were concerned when we learned that the United States had bombed Syria, however.  We did have a security person accompany us around Cairo the day after the bombing.  For the most part, the Egyptians really want tourists to feel safe and to enjoy the sites of their country.  Our guides  were knowledgeable and we especially enjoyed the person who accompanied us on the Nile cruise.  He was great with the kids and they really enjoyed him.

Egypt Luxury Vacation Review: Cairo, Giza, Dahshur, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Nile River, Luxor

My overall comments on our trip are uniformly and enthusiastically positive. We wanted to do a two-week tour of Egypt focusing on the antiquities in Cairo and Upper Egypt. The tour that was organized for us included all of the sites we wished to see (Cairo, Giza/Saqqara/Dahshur, Aswan, Abu Simbel, the Nile, and Luxor). These sites were spectacular and endlessly interesting, blowing away any expectations we may have had. I recommend this or a similar itinerary to anyone interested in an overview of Egypt.

My overall comments on Zicasso's travel company are also enthusiastically positive. Before we looked into booking the trip, we looked into commercially available tours (including Nile cruise programs) and had a general sense of what we wanted to see. When we were put in contact with our travel agency, the first thing they did was ask a series of questions to determine what kind of travelers we were and what kinds of things we wanted to do. Then, they listened to the answers and proposed an itinerary that matched up perfectly.

We were interested in historical and cultural sites, but not so interested in adventure travel (bikes, balloons, camels, etc). The best suggestion had to do with spending time on the Nile. I assumed we could book a three-night passage on a river cruise ship. They suggested we book a cabin on a dahabiya (a sailing vessel with six cabins, of the sort used prior to steamships.) This was the highlight of a trip filled with highlights. In addition to the fun of being on a 45-meter sailing vessel, that boat could tie up at sites not accessible to larger boats, so we got to see sites at Gebel el Silsila and Al-Kab, at which we were the only visitors.

When we took the trip, the value added by our tour operator became very evident. First, we were, at all times, in the hands of thoroughly professional (and thoroughly pleasant) guides, drivers, and transfer agents. We were met each day, and at each airport (or dock) or our hotel, by a qualified Egyptologist and driver. All were superb, both knowledgeable and ready to respond to our questions.

We were booked at iconic hotels with rooms that were the best in terms of accommodations and views (the Great Pyramid out of our window, the Nile at Elephantine Island, and the beautiful garden at the Winter Palace).

Egypt, Jordan Luxury Travel Review: Cairo, Luxor, Petra, Wadi Rum, Dead Sea

We just completed a 10-day trip to Egypt (Cairo and Luxor) and Jordan (Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea). Our group consisted of six people ranging from eight to 80 years old. Everyone in the group had an amazing time!

The tour guides in Cairo and Jordan were incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating. They were able to keep things fun and instructive for everyone. The tour operator did a great job of designing a trip with varied exposure to the different sites so it did not feel like we were having the same experience repeatedly.

Before our trip, we were a little anxious about traveling to an area so close to the Gaza conflict, but we had absolutely no concerns about safety the entire time.

The only hiccup we had was that the person meeting us at the airport upon arrival in Cairo was very late. It wasn't a good first impression, after a long flight, to feel stranded at the airport in a new country. Our flight did arrive earlier than the scheduled time, but that was not in our control, and flight times should have been monitored. Other than that, the rest of the trip went perfectly.

There are many different tour operators that offer similar itineraries. The reason we chose Zicasso’s was because they offered the same experience as others, but provided a discount for our two children, aged 11 and eight. This discount was not part of the packages of other tour operators and resulted in substantial savings.

Our entire family highly recommends traveling to Egypt and Jordan!

Review: Luxury Tour of Egypt, Cairo, Nile Cruise, Dahab Scuba Diving, Mt Horeb Climb, St Catherine's Monastery, Abu Simbel Temple

Just returned 8 hours ago from the most wonderful, educational and relaxing vacation I have ever taken. The cultural exchange and generous, heartfelt hospitality of the Egyptian people cannot be overstated.  But more importantly, the professional expertise, planning, sensitivity and execution of this travel company made this all possible.  The founder of the travel company, experienced Egyptologist and tour guide himself, is exceptional in his service and the service he expects from all his team in Egypt.  He is conscious that tourists are concerned about safety in Egypt, and his reassurances that his company takes every precaution possible in that regard, was noticeable from the moment we stepped off the plane in Cairo. Watching his airport officials smoothly and efficiently take control to facilitate all passport, security checks, baggage and transportation, immediately put me at ease to enjoy all this wonderful country had to offer.

The personalized trip my travel agent planned, including a most important trip to Sinai to visit St Catherine's monastery and scuba dive in Dahab, exceeded our expectations, including an additional security guard to accompany our private tour bus while in Sinai.  He blended our wishes for the trip and his expertise to give my daughter and I an unforgettable experience, that everyday made me think " I want to tell everyone I know to put Egypt on their "must see" vacation destination. The tour guides spoke fluent English, were knowledgeable and personable, and made Egyptian history and culture fresh and accessible. Every detail, from finding quality shops for wonderful Egyptian products, to providing a strong arm to lean on climbing Mt Horeb, was provided for our comfort and ease.

Thank you to our agent  and your wonderful team, dedicated to showing visitors the best of Egyptian history, monuments and hospitality.
