Day 1

Vagar – Arrive in the Faro Islands and Relax in the Town of Vagar

The Faroe Islands offer secluded, untouched landscapes that showcase the captivating drama of nature. The coastlines resemble jagged puzzle pieces drifting apart while cottages shimmer with pastel hues and grass rooftops against the silver-streaked cobalt blue Atlantic Ocean. Tunnels and windy roads connect once-inaccessible hamlets at the remotest edges of the northern islands. As your flight descends into Vagar Airport, you will notice the short grass that blankets the countryside and is filled with flocks of fluffy sheep. The pasture shimmers with emerald hues against the black and gray rocks that protrude from the cliffs and mountains.

Your flight will land, and you will quickly exit the airstrip built in World War II by the British. Dew shimmers over the grass outside the landing strip as you pick up your rental car and venture into the village to find the island of Mykines soaring above the cobalt waters in the distance. Your Iceland tour agents will ensure a smooth ride as you take in the steep, rugged coastline that will demand your attention against the quiet, colorful homes found along the shores of Sorvagur. The prevalent breeze carries the briny aroma of the ocean, and you will be able to spot puffins circling over the water. The birds build their cliffs in niches along the coastal cliffs, and their orange beaks and feet contrast against the black and white plumage around their bellies and face.

Travel Review: Iceland Tour, Reykjavik, Thorsmork, Vik, Blue Lagoon, Valley of Thor, Eyjafjallajokull Glacier, Geysir Hot Spring
Our vacation, and the guide exceeded all of our expectations! We saw so much of the southern part of Iceland in 6 days which was perfect for us. We had a private guide for the entire trip, and our guide took us everywhere in his jacked up Land Rover with giant tires capable of driving through rivers, lava fields, and on beaches! Our guide was so knowledgeable about the people, culture, and land, and we felt like we really knew the country and had made a real friend by the time we left. Having a private guide and being able to go where and when we wanted was awesome, and our guide went over and above to make sure we saw the highlights as well as less seen places, and he kept an eye on the Aurora forecast, and got us to a very dark place where we were lucky enough to see a spectacular show! Our stops included, the Blue Lagoon which was a great way to start our vacation after taking the red eye from the US. It's a tourist stop, but worth going to since it takes 20 years off of your body- so they say! We went 400 feet inside of a 4000 year old volcano which was an awesome experience. We saw multiple waterfalls- Gljufrabui, Seljalandsfoss, Hraunfossar, and the Golden, and all were worth the hike. In Thorsmork we went to Thor's Ravine, an awesome canyon and a pretty good hike. Eyjafjallajokull Glacier is the one that erupted in 2010, and it's stunning. We spent 2 nights in Vik, and traveled around from there, and 3 nights total in Reykjavik, which is a great little town with restaurants and bars and a harbor. We took a zodiac boat ride on a glacial lagoon, and got up close and personal with the glacier. We drove the Kaldidalur Mountain Pass between glaciers, and went into the Langiokull Glacier through a manmade ice cave. Finally, we went on to the Golden Circle, with it's three main attractions- Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Hot Spring, and the Golden Waterfall. I planned the entire trip with the owner of the travel company, and he tailored the trip specifically to my family. We emailed and had one 45 minute phone call, and he had the entire trip planned including hotel reservations, reservations at attractions, and he even suggested and made dinner reservations for us. Also, he and his wife gave us weather forecasts, tips for clothing, and answered any other questions and concerns, and always responded almost immediately. I would totally recommend Zicasso, who asks a bunch of questions so they can pair you with 3 highly rated travel agencies, and follows up with you, and the travel company- an awesome travel agency who planned a trip that exceeded all of our expectations!

Iceland Travel Review: 7-Days in Reykjavik, Golden Circle, Glaciers, Waterfalls
I chose our travel specialist based on reviews I read on Trip Advisor. Arnar worked with me to design a 7-day trip for my husband and I. He was flexible and thoughtful with his planning and our tour guide was so full of knowledge. You would never know that English was not his first language. It was a great way to learn about the country without being lectured to. He also turned out to be a fabulous photographer who took great photos of my husband and I.We visited the Blue Lagoon first thing which was an awesome experience especially in winter. We had a nice balance of "tours" and alone time to explore Reykjavik. 4 days of private tours:Golden Circle Adventure which we stopped at a tomato farm for an AMAZING lunch! Also did the Lava Tube Cave.Thorsmork & Eyafjallakull Adventure where we did a snowmobiling trip on Eyjafjallokull Glacier. Such a blast!Jokulsarlon Glacier Adventure. We had planned to go on a glacier hike, but after speaking with people on our snowmobiling trip we decided to go hike to an ice cave. Arnar was able to make this happen with the help of our guide. It was such a site!WaterFalls & Volcanoes Adventure. The weather was so bad that the activity we had planned, which was an ATV Tour, was cancelled. Our guide quickly came up with a new plan. We went to an Interactive Volcano and Earthquake Exhibition.  It was fascinating to learn all about the different types of volcanoes and to better understand the explosive history of this extraordinary country. Then to a local restaurant that he knew. The accommodation in Reykjavik that he chose was in a great location. Really modern and chic hotel with lovely hotel rooms. Located in the center of the town well placed for restaurants and bars. The accommodation in Vik was a very basic accommodation. Breakfast was good, they had nice home baked bread and waffles. Because of the distance from other places our guide was able to take us to see the Northern Lights which were spectacular!Overall it was an AWESOME vacation and would definitely recommend our travel specialist.

Iceland Vacation Review: Reykjavik, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, Private Guides

Our family of five had an amazing nine-day trip to Iceland over Christmas. We were based mostly in Reykjavik, taking walking tours through the city with local guides and small group tours to hunt for the Northern Lights and explore the Golden Circle and a lava tunnel.

We met with a private guide who drove us to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and a blue ice cave, plus many scenic waterfalls and beaches along the southern coast. These tours were fantastic and the two hotels we stayed at were a great fit for our family. We spent Christmas Day at the Sky Lagoon; definitely a great day!

We were very fortunate to find our tour operator through Zicasso. Our trip was planned by a very friendly and professional travel agent. She helped us figure out the best itinerary for our family. She helped us balance all the activities we wanted to do, while still having some downtime. We had a couple of last-minute travel complications, including flight delays and the Blue Lagoon closing, then reopening, then closing again due to the volcanic eruption. She was very accommodating and quick to reschedule various activities.

All tours were prepaid, pre-ticketed, and easy to find. Our travel team did all the hard work and prepared everything in advance, which made the trip very easy and uncomplicated. We definitely recommend them and may call them again to see Iceland in the summertime!

Travel Review: Family Trip to Iceland, Reykjavik, Thorsmork, Geysir, Gullfoss, Jokulsarlon & Thingvellir National Parks

Our guide was great.  He met us at Keflavik Airport at 4:50 AM in his 17 passenger mini-bus, showed us a lavafield on our way to the Blue Lagoon, and took us to a very nice breakfast at a small café in Grindavik, before taking us to our hotel in Reykjavik which had a great fish and chip on the menu.

Iceland was a great trip and our guide was a great guide for it.  We were a family of 5, ages 16 to 85, and Our guide was able to accommodate all of us.  My wife and mom were not up for the more challenging hikes, so he got them to lunch and a museum.  My son wanted to get the morning light for his camera, so he was in the lobby on two mornings at 3 AM.  My other son forgot his toiletries bag in one of the 8 hotels we stayed in, so our guide coordinated with his niece to have the bag delivered to us before we got on the plane. Lastly, I have an interest in the sagas, Njal's Saga in particular, so our guide got me to the site of the Njal burning (which was not easy), the saga museum, and various landmarks along the way.  Also, waterfalls, a hike on the glacier, a hike in the glacier, in a cave, Thingvellir, Thorsmork, Geysir, Guilfoss, Reynisfjara, Jokulsarlon, and more.  Stops at Bonus, souvenirs, the new Iceland Costco?  No problem!

It was also a great help to have him as a driver.  If you want to see the scenery, you're going to have to drive out, in a country on the metric system, where you might not see another car for an hour.  Our drivers knew which one lane road or dirt road was the right road, and that is  tricky if you're not a native.

Iceland Review: Thorsmork Mountain Ridge, Glaciers, Waterfalls, Local Cuisine, Sea Cliffs, Geysers, Hot Springs
Iceland, a land built from volcanoes, was nothing that I have ever seen before!  The sea cliffs, geysers, glaciers, black sand beaches, and waterfalls were majestical.  The private tours with this travel company were well planned and exactly what I expected.  I enjoyed the free space within the Toyota Land Cruiser on our long journeys into the mainland.  The "secret" waterfall spot within the Thorsmork Private Tour was one of my trip highlights.  Moreover, I really enjoyed going on and inside of a glacier on our other private tour.  The glaciers, themselves, are a geolocial miracle.  The acoustics within the glacier were grand, as well as our tour guides singing within them.  The people of Iceland, in general, are very nice!  It was interesting to see the bahavioral differences between Icelandic people and those visiting.  The way Icelanders can pronounce all the long names of the sites was impressive.  Icelandic language is very difficult!  The food in Iceland was incredible and beyond my imagination.  The cuisine in Iceland is inspired by the food Icelanders have around them: fresh salmon, lamb (try their hot dogs if you are looking for fast food!), cod, skyr, and berries.  The fresh Artic water also quenched my thirst.  I had an amazing experience at several of their restaurants.  I recommend all of you get a chance to visit and get a taste of their menus.
