Venice – Arrive in the UNESCO Heritage City of Venice

The floating masterpieces of Venice glimmer in the sunlight with marbled palaces that rise out of the fabled canals. Stoic gondolas cruise along the narrow and hidden waterways while vaporetti speed between the wide, winding banks of the Grand Canal. Your private transfer will greet you upon your arrival at Marco Polo Airport and escort you into the heart of your city so you can settle into the comforts of your luxurious accommodation.

You can look out your window over the water and find locals who are dangling their clothes above the rippling canal below and witness small the bridges in the distance, which account for a few of the more than 400 in the city that connect Venice’s 118 small islands. You will meet your guide in the hotel lobby and set out on a fascinating introductory tour of the UNESCO heritage city with a private gondola tour that will lead you back in time and challenge your perception of the former powerful republic with preserved palaces and six churches that soar above the banks of the Grand Canal.

The narrow backstreets retain their priceless sheen in the evening with restaurants that light the walkways with candles and secluded churches that are decorated with the works of master artists. You can step off the gondola at Campo dei Frari to view the captivating works of Titian that adorn the Venetian architecture, including Assumption of the Virgin, which depicts the Apostles on the ground, Mary rising in the center of the piece, and the heavens above with vibrant colors and poetic dimensions that break the traditions of the time to show the masterful aesthetic of the High Renaissance.

Detailed Description

You will discover the true nature of Italy’s heritage and the importance of preserving the past during your 10-day UNESCO tour of Italy. Whether finding alluring gardens in Padua or enjoying the view of the elaborate brick dome of Florence’s cathedral, Italy represents over five percent of the entire UNESCO global list, reflecting the grandeur of heritage from the Dolomite Mountains in the north to the island of Sicily in the south. You will have private tours with guides who specialize in art, history, culture, and cuisine for an authentic exploration of contemporary life as shaped by the preserved past.

Your heritage tour of Italy will begin with your arrival in Venice where you will stay for two nights. The remarkable city on the lagoon features lavish marble palaces and quintessential canals. You will discover the marvels of St. Mark’s Square, the reach of hidden waterways, and the splendid flavors of traditional cicchetti plates. Outside of Venice, you will find exceptional heritage sites in Padua and Verona, stemming from botanical gardens, preserved church frescos, Roman architecture, and Renaissance designs that are highlighted by a touch of Shakespearean drama in the form of Romeo and Juliet. You will reach Florence, where you will have two nights of indulging in the magnificent ambiance of the Renaissance with a local guide who will introduce you to the illustrious charms of the city center. Whether wandering beneath the dome of the Duomo or finding the tomb of Michelangelo in the Basilica of Santa Croce, you will find the immense influence of Medici and the pride of locals in and around the city, leading into the Tuscan countryside where you will visit a selection of villas and gardens that were built by the Medici family.

You will continue toward Naples and the coastal city of Sorrento, stopping in Tivoli to visit the UNESCO sites of Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este that parallel each other with a classical aesthetic. At Caserta Palace, your local guide will offer a unique perspective on the grandeur of the Baroque masterpiece that is found in the palatial design and elaborate gardens before arriving in Sorrento for three nights. You will take your time to discover the marvels of Pompeii and Herculaneum with a local historian who will introduce you to the hidden aspects of the preserved cities. You will also enjoy a visit to the Greek temples of Paestum, revealing the best-preserved Greek settlement on mainland Italy. Then, you will partake in a private cooking lesson that will focus on the intangible heritage of pizza, teaching you the art of recipes that have passed down through the generations.

Italy Tour Review: Rome, Venice, Tuscany, Chianti, Vespa Tour, Boat Ride, Cooking Class, 20 Days

Our trip was absolutely amazing and the planning done by Zicasso's travel company surpassed my expectations. The attention to detail was amazing: from excellent and punctual drivers to assistants who helped us with the water taxis in Venice to the lounge access for trains. It was truly white-glove service that made my trip seamless and allowed me to enjoy every moment because every detail was handled.

The excursions were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the cooking class at a farm in Tuscany and the Vespa tours in Rome. There was a nice mix of private excursions for the walking tours and boat rides, to a few shared excursions, such as the cooking class.

The hotels the travel company booked were chic, boutiquey Italian hotels and each had its own charm (from the former palace in Venice to the castle in Chianti), and we loved them. We would absolutely recommend to anyone booking a trip to Italy!

Italy, France Vacation Review: Rome, Florence, Venice, Paris, Bayeux, Normandy, 18 Nights

We had an excellent experience with Zicasso's travel company. We are a family of four and spent 18 nights going through Italy and France. We worked with the company to make arrangements to see the cities and sites we wanted to visit. They offered great options for hotels and activities. They stayed in close contact with us during the trip and made additional arrangements upon request. The company provided outstanding service making arrangements and during the trip. We were very satisified and have already recommended them to our friends.

Italy Tour Review: Rome, Florence, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, Ancient Sites, Cooking Class, 1 Week

I can confidently say that Zicasso's travel specialist is truly dedicated to providing her clients a luxury experience. From the outset, we had a 20-minute call where she wanted to learn about our dream vacation and get to know us. She was attentive to every request we made and organized our itinerary accordingly. During the trip, she texted us daily to inform us about our drivers and guides for the next day. Additionally, she checked to ensure our trip was progressing smoothly.

Here are some highlights:

Rome: We were greeted at the airport by our agent, who expedited our passage through passport control. The following day, we started our exploration at the Vatican. Our agent had purchased our tickets in advance, allowing us to skip the line. She also planned the remainder of our self-guided tours of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and other ancient sights. We accomplished so much in just two days!

Florence: We took part in a pasta-making class with a chef who was fantastic! Her husband was also quite charming. Our experience there was truly wonderful. Special thanks to our driver, who was incredibly helpful and informative.

Sorrento (Amalfi Coast): We began with a visit to Pompeii, where our guide, also arranged by our agent, was spectacular! His passion and extensive knowledge made the experience enjoyable. Next, we had a fun blind wine tasting. When we arrived at our amazing hotel, we were greeted with a surprise.

While in Rome, we encountered a minor issue, which our agent resolved quickly. She even went above and beyond by ordering us a bottle of prosecco to celebrate. We also took a car tour of Positano and Ravello, guided by a local from Ravello who was informative, knowledgeable, and delightful. We loved her! Our day ended with a lovely sunset cruise off the coast! Both days had excellent drivers.

This trip was a dream come true for my husband and me. Without a doubt, our agent made it the luxurious experience we desired. I highly recommend her and her team!
