Travel Review: Italy Vacation, Rome, Venice, Florence, Montepulciano, Murano, Glass beading Class, Cooking Lesson

Our trip to Italy was amazing. We started in Venice, then to Florence, Montepulciano  and ended in Rome. Our travel agency provided some amazing experiences including glass bead making in Murano, pizza and tiramisu making in Florence and amazing wine tasting at small vineyards, visits to working farms and delicious culinary experiences. We were so happy with our experience and can't thank this travel planner enough!

Travel Review: Italy Vacation, Rome, Amalfi Coast, Sicily, Vatican, Sistine Chapel, St Peter's

Zicasso made my #1 Bucket List destination (Italy) a dream come true. They helped me create the perfect itinerary which allowed me to see the famous, and not so famous tourist attractions. The travel agent at Zicasso helped me go off the beaten path in some cities to see how the locals lived and ate. There’s too much to write in a simple review so suffice it to say my friends and relative who had previously traveled to Italy were envious of my Zicasso experience

Travel Review: Italy Vacation, Rome, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Positano, Amalfi Coast, Honey & Wine Tasting, Cooking Lesson

Overall, the tour planned for us was incredible in scope. We appreciate how much coordination goes into planning stays at five locations for five people (two couples and a single) over a 14-day period. One of the advantages to having a professional handle the logistics of such a journey is foreknowledge of the available lodgings, and this was certainly evident here. Each hotel, in our opinion, was unique in its own way and representative of each particular locale, especially  from the ornate rooms in Venice, to the rustic charm of the farmhouse in Tuscany, to the mountainside accomodations in Positano; each was outstanding. We also appreciated the manner in which our travel agency provided us with important phone numbers, pictures of guides, dining recommendations and other valuable information.

Most impressive, I think we all agreed, was the transportation between destinations. The rides were comfortable, and the drivers were courteous and knowledgeable; I do not believe we would have been able to arrange this part of the trip as well as it was handled by this travel agency. (A special shout-out goes to our Venice to Florence driver who arranged an impromptu visit to a balsamic vinegar farm while we were en route!)

Our travel agency's choice of guides was equally laudable; each was accommodating and knowledgeable. They expedited our entries into the various attractions, allowed us to go at our own pace to a great degree, gave us some excellent restaurant suggestions, and basically made us feel special. In retrospect, I feel that we should have not scheduled as many tours as we did and left more time for independent exploration, but that certainly was not the fault of this company; we were the ones who drove the schedule. That being said, the golf cart tour of Rome seemed like a good idea at the start, but I don’t think it was what we expected; we found many of the destinations uninteresting and mostly forgettable. We found what we felt would have been better places to visit just from walking around Rome on our own.

The one big negative of the entire trip was our final stop in Positano. We had required, and were given, three rooms at all of our other locations, but for some reason, the travel agency originally booked only two rooms for us in Positano, meaning that our single traveler would have to bunk with one of the couples for three nights in a one bed, one bath room. We only found out about this arrangement a month before our trip, and would not have even known about it if one of our party didn’t notice it on her own. Our travel agency's solution was to house the single traveler in a separate hotel for two nights and then with one of our couples for the final night…inconvenient, but doable. However, upon reaching Positano, we found an error in the reservation (the wrong dates were reserved…how does this happen?) and ended up with one room for four people. At this point, we were unable to reach any a company representative; the problem was eventually solved by the hotel manager at the hotel, but it involved us staying in three separate (and not co-located) hotels for one night, two separate locations for the second night, and finally all of us in a villa the last night. The villa was probably our favorite lodging, and things worked out in the end, but unfortunately, this was no thanks to our travel agency.

This is really a shame because this trip was so well-planned, and yet, the freshest memory we have of it was this last situation. Many times we were amazed how our travel agency found all of the people and places, such as the Chef’s Dinner in Florence and the honey and wine tasting in Tuscany, that made this a once in a lifetime experience. We expected there to be missteps along the way in an undertaking of this size, but it seems like that whole Positano debacle could have been avoided if the correct reservations were made at the outset when we all agreed upon them.

Italy Family Vacation Review: Rome, Florence, Venice, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi Coast, Naples, Mt Vesuvius, Glass Blowing Class

WOW!  Where do we start.  It was a fantastic family vacation.  From start to finish, we couldn't ask for a better scripted trip.  Our travel agent, was responsible for our itinerary for the entire trip; boy were we glad we've used their services.  They were pure angels holding our hands the entire trip.  Our travel agency would check and remind us of our itineraries on a daily basis.  It really felt as if they were right next to us.  Thank you to our agency!

We started out in Venice for 3 nights, travel to Florence for 3 more, then to Sorrento  via Pompeii 3 there as well, then to Rome for final 3 nights.

Once, we arrived in Venice, our contact met us at the airport to guide us to our hotel.  I highly recommend it since it's not an easy place to navigate on your own the first day.  After checking in, we met our tour guide for our first guided tour.  It was a walking tour of city of canals.  Just beautiful!  Next morning, we met our guide again but for Burano & Murano.  We loved the different pace of these islands.  After completing our tour we met our instructor at his glass blowing studio for a hands on experience, just lovely, follow by a Gondolier Class and Food Tour.  It was perfect way to finish the day.  On the third day, we took a one hour train ride to Verona, birth place of Romeo and Juliet.  Our tour guide met us and showed us around town and its history.  It was an wonderful place to visit.  Upon returning from Verona, we had the evening to ourselves.  We started out walking around to explore.  Needless to say we got lost but that was for the best.  It gave us the opportunity to explore the city and see how the locals lived.

Florence was our second stop.  We met our guide for the tour of the city including Santa Croce church.  Following day we visited the Accademia Gallery & Uffizzi Museum which is a must when in Florence.  On the third day, we had a lovely day trip to Pisa.  Little bit of a bus ride but wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Sorrento was next on the agenda.  But first, we stopped at Pompeii.  Our guide, an archaeologist, met us and gave us the tour of the city once buried in ashes.  What a great experience!  Our guide was so enthused to share his knowledge that we felt as if we were living in Pompeii at its height.  Afterwards, we had lunch at a wine farm on Mt. Vesuvius.  Lovely family run vineyard.  The whole day was outstanding.  For the second and third day, we decided to see the coast by sea and land.  Both were different and both were gorgeous.  Visited Capri and swam in golf of Naples first by sea then drove to different towns along the coast including Positano, Amalfi, and Revello on the second.  It was a nice relaxing break.

Our final destination was Rome.  We had an general overview tour of the city on the first day.  It was good in a sense it gave us time to get our baring straight.  The second day we met our guide for the tour of the Vatican.  You can visit the Vatican a dozens of times and still not have enough time to see all it has to offer.  In the evening, we had the Colosseum tour.  Definitely one of the highlights.  The last day we had all to ourselves.  We ended up walking around to visit the Spanish steps the Trevi fountain and many more.  We wanted to take in as much as possible.  Even though the trip was 2 weeks, it was too short.  By the end of the trip, our whole family fell in love with this county and we all looked at each other and said can we live here.

Overall, it was an outstanding trip that we can not even begin to describe.   Without the help of our agency, I don't think it would've been possible.  They made sure that every little details were taking care of.  For anyone, who's interested in Italy, please look up this company.

Travel Review: Luxury Trip to Italy, Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, Vatican Tour

Just came back from a 5 night trip to Rome and Florence.  The goal was to see these two cities in a private, luxurious and efficient way.  Booked with these travel agents and found them to be very nice and knowledgeable of the cities.  They helped offer an itinerary that fit our compact schedule and looked amazing.  They made it seamless to find our guides and restaurants and they checked in to see how we were doing.

Pros:  tour of Rome (def recommended)

Private Vatican Tour - we got lucky and our original guide was not available and we ended up with an art history professor.  she was amazing.

Now the bad:

We overpaid by an extreme amount for the quality of the tours.  There is no need to use a tour company like this when you can just go on tripadvisor.  Like all tour companies they simply subcontract out other companies for a premium price.  The Chianti wine tour they sent us on was absolutely awful.  We couldn't even drink the wine it was so bad.  Not an authentic experience at all.  They make u sit in a room and watch videos and serve you their entry level wine.

The wine tasting in Rome they sent us to was tacky.  18 people sitting at a table listening to an american tell us about italian wine.  expected something more romantic, luxurious and unique to Italy.  You would think the travel company would understand what we would want based on what we booked (we stayed at all 5 star hotels and booked all private tours and transportation)

The recommended restaurants were ok but not great.  we found better restaurants simply by speaking with our concierge.
