Rome – Be Welcomed to the Eternal City with a Tour of Ancient Rome
Rome is a city that offers endless possibilities for discovery, whether in art, architecture, charm or within oneself. History and the splendors of former master artists are within reach around every corner. The hills around the city garner the aromas of chestnut and oak trees and the streets feel magical. You are taken back in time along cobblestone lanes that lead to lavish villas built to showcase the power of wealthy noble families. Your flight will land at Fiumicino Airport where your private transfer will meet you at baggage claim.
Once settled in the comforts of Parco Delle Nazioni, your guide will greet you in the lobby ready to escort you through the captivating monuments of Ancient Rome. You begin at the Imperial Forums, an area mostly built over during the reign of Mussolini in the 1930s. Excavations have since unearthed elements of Trajan’s Market, beneath the lingering outline of Trajan’s Column. The 2nd century AD monument contains intricate reliefs depicting Rome’s victories over the Dacians. A portion of the Temple of Minerva still stands near what was once the Foro di Nerva.
You will make your way along the Via dei Fori Imperiali for a view of the Colosseum which grows larger as you venture closer as the aroma of rich earth emanates from the ruins strewn along the edges of the roadway. The exterior walls of the Colosseum reach a height of more than 155 feet tall, and once featured large masts to help shade the upwards of 50,000 patrons that would fill the stadium seating. The Colosseum, along with the remaining columns of the Roman Forum, has become an icon of Rome, both past and present.

Detailed Description
Rome bustles with the activity of a capital city while the Le Marche region maintains a relaxed and steady pace between the bordering mountain peaks, vast meadows, and bright Adriatic coast. In discovering them both, you can experience the finest in Italy’s history and landscape during your 8-day tour best visited in spring. The culture of hilltop towns remains undisturbed as the pleasures of cuisine remain attached to local tradition. Whether you wander through the lavish villas of noble families in Rome or stroll along the quiet cobbled lanes that lead to a provincial Cathedral, you will connect to the precious gems of Italy’s heritage, evolving from pre-Roman tribes to medieval majesty.
Your journey will begin with your arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport. Your private transfer will escort you into the historical center where you will have an introductory tour of the ancient life and ruins of Rome. Witness the stones, pillars, and remaining ancient villas that once shaped an empire. The next day, you will venture to Piazza Navona for a private art class amidst the Baroque architecture and fountains in the public square. Follow your art class with a view of the work of masters inside the Vatican Museum.
Wake the next day for a private tour of the different neighborhoods of Rome, traversing quiet residential streets and traditional local markets. Meet a local chef who will teach you how to make proper pasta and another traditional Roman dish before you wander the artwork of the Villa Borghese. The next day is at your leisure to uncover the treasures of Rome as you desire, so you could follow the Baroque trail of stunning palaces and churches or venture to the preserved ancient city of Ostia Antica outside of Rome. You could also visit the lavish historic villas of Tivoli.
The next day, your private transfer will lead you away from Rome to travel eastward to the region of Le Marche. The hills of Lazio level to the fields of Le Marche, and in the distance, the peaks of Monti Sibillini connect to the Umbrian region. Visit the towns of Ascoli Piceno and Ancona en route to the seaside town of Pesaro. Continue the next day with a full day tour that begins with a truffle hunt, followed by a wine tasting.
For lunch, you will step into the kitchen to prepare regional dishes that highlight the local wine and truffles. Continue to Urbino to walk around the treasured Renaissance town that overlooks the plains of Le Marche. The next day, you will continue your exploration of the region as you traverse both towns and landscape at your preferred pace. See the remaining medieval tower at Cagli and enjoy the wild daffodils along the meadow beneath Monte Petrano, or you could also visit the Frasassi Caves. Conclude the next day as your private transfer will escort you north to Rimini for your flight home.

Our agents did great work planning our Italian trip. We are tremendously grateful for the care they took to get the itinerary just right to meet our requests. Asking for a few destinations off the usual list of cities really opened up our experience. We loved Verona, and I had a very meaningful experience in Mantua walking in the footsteps of Claudio Monteverdi. Our accommodations, guides, and activities really met or exceeded our expectations. Our stay at Hotel Pesaro Palace in Venice, Novo Hotel Rossi in Verona, and Hotel Du Lac near Lake Garda were among the best. Highly recommend those hotels if going to any one of those locations. We had a wonderful two weeks in northern Italy and can’t wait to return— we are already dreaming about our return trip.

My trip was intended as an art-enrichment tour of major galleries and museums in Florence and Rome, and by my request, my itinerary was packed. It was tiring, but fulfilling, and my goals for the trip were accomplished.
I certainly appreciate how smoothly Zicasso’s travel agency made things for me. They organized a schedule with everything I wanted to do, chose charming hotels, and arranged drivers, guides, and tickets. They even provided notes on cultural differences and Italian phrases that I found very useful.
Most importantly, they were prompt and helpful, not only during planning, but also while I was on the trip. I would certainly recommend them to others wanting to go to Italy.

What a magical and memorable trip to southern Italy!
Thank you to Zicasso's travel agent for planning such a wonderful and very special itinerary for us. It was the trip of a lifetime! We asked you to plan a trip to southern Italy for us and our adult children to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, and the itinerary and our experiences exceeded our expectations. We asked to visit authentic Italy, not the touristy areas, and you nailed it!
Puglia was beautiful and magical, and all of our accommodations were lovely and exactly what we wanted. We really enjoyed the different areas you chose for us so we could experience different environments. We are not sure we have a favorite place, but our sea-view room in Polignano a Mare was spectacular and the rooftop made-to-order breakfast was phenomenal! We all loved that town and also really enjoyed the boat tour of the caves!
Our other favorite towns were Ostuni, Alberobello, Martina Franca, Locorotondo, Lecce, and Otranto, and hiking along the Adriatic on the Salento Peninsula.
Another highlight was going to a Primitivo winery and having a delicious traditional lunch with tastings. What a lovely afternoon!
The most surprising and awesome place was the Sassi in Matera! The pictures you see do not do it justice. It was like going back in time or onto a movie set; simply amazing to see. Our travel team planned special accommodation for us – staying in caves – and it was an unbelievable bucket-list experience!
For this trip, the team recommended using private transport between towns because we were a family of five traveling with luggage, and navigating parking with a large van in these small towns would have been very difficult for us. We were very happy we took their advice. They hired a wonderful transportation company and the owner and driver provided us with excellent service and were so much fun to be with on our trips to each destination.
The last leg involved five days in Agropoli on the Cilento Coast (Mediterranean Sea), south of the Amalfi Coast. It was perfect. So beautiful and authentic! Our tour guide, driver, and translator were awesome, and took us on many interesting and fabulous adventures, including a visit to the Greek and Roman temples, ruins in Paestum, a tour and tasting at an organic buffalo mozzarella farm at a family-owned fig producer, and a small family-owned organic winery. All were fabulous and beyond our expectations. Experiencing the traditional foods and local wines in all of these places was another highlight.
If all of this isn’t amazing enough, we also experienced my Italian heritage. Our travel team planned a stop in Casalciprano, a very small village in the Campobasso province where my paternal grandfather was born. With the help of our new friend. I was able to meet a few townspeople who were able to find the house where my grandfather was born. I never expected that and I will treasure that moment forever. Also, we visited a museum in the house where another relative was born.
He is a famous detective from NYC and I have heard stories about him my whole life. So along with our agent's help translating for us, we enjoyed learning more about his life in Padula, a very small town in the province of Salerno. I donated some letters and a photo to the museum, and felt so connected to the people in the town. Our travel agent found a wonderful restaurant where we ate traditional foods from that region.
This was the trip of a lifetime and I thank our travel team for making our 40th anniversary a dream vacation come true! We had such a great time and can’t wait to plan our next vacation!

Our trip was wonderful! Everything was very well planned and organized for us, and it all went as anticipated. Our agent and the other members of this Italy travel agency provided excellent service in working with us so that we could go to the places we wanted to see and to do the things we wanted to experience. They also gave us excellent suggestions of other things we might enjoy; for example, the Food Tour in Rome was a huge success with all of us. We spent three days in Rome and stayed in a condo in center city; walking distance from the Colosseum and other historical sites. We had a wonderful guide in Rome. She knew how to get into the major sites easily and in a timely manner. She was very well versed on the history of Rome and explained everything well for our grandchildren, children and us. We saw everything we wanted to see and more.
Next we went to Tuscany and had a wonderful driver who was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We stayed at the lovely Villa Cicolina where we experienced the charm of the region and the hospitality of the staff. We took day trips to Pienza, Montepulciano, Sienna, Pisa, Monteriggioni and Castellina in Chianti. We enjoyed the wonderful Italian wines and cheeses, especially the pecorino. We did a cooking class at the villa and had a unique experience preparing the evening dinner for the other guests and ourselves.
Leaving Tuscany, we did an unplanned stop at the American Cemetery outside of Florence; a reminder to all of us of those who gave their lives for our freedoms. We drove into Florence and toured the major sites of the city with a final stop at the Accademia Gallery to see the remarkable Michelangelos' David. We then drove on to Venice where we spent our last two nights in an apartment in center city. We were within walking distance of St. Marks Square. During our stay we visited the Doge's Palace, doing the Secret Itineray tour; did a gondola ride in the early evening and toured the shops and restaurants of the old city.
It was our third trip to Italy - Rome, Florence and Venice, and by far the best. Thank you to Zicasso, this travel agency and our travel specialist and her staff for making it possible

My sister, mom,and I recently came back from our dream vacation to Italy. This travel agencymade the trip and experience beyond imaginable. From the planning to execution, our travel agency made the trip of our dreams a reality. By gathering the vision we had for our trip andanswering any question we had whether big or small, our travel agency was withus every step of the way – even during the trip!
Each tour guide was an expert in their area of interest andflexible to our wants and needs. Thedrivers were personable giving us an overview of the area that we were in aswell as ensuring we were exactly in the place we needed to be (even at thetrain stations). Our cooking class inMontepulciano was amazing. We learned tomake a basic ragu that was used in the Veal Ossobuco as well as tips to make itinto different sauces, cheese soufflé, homemade pici, and tiramisu. We enjoyed the experience so much we haddinner there the same night!
We took various private guided tours from a boat triparound Lake Como, walking the Duomo in Milan, the Ancient ruins of Rome, and theVatican museum and Sistine Chapel. Othertours included day trips to Sienna and Pienza, Pompei and Mt. Vesuvius, andCapri. The only regret was not taking aguided tour of Pompei.
Our entire trip was thought through and planned perfectlyand has given us plenty to plan for on our next trip to Italy. Our only disappointment was having to comeback home! Thank you for our adventureand can’t wait for the next one!
