Varese – Arrive in Milan and Transfer to the Beautiful City of Varese

The Italian Alps wind along the northern edges of the country to divide the region across the Swiss and Austrian borders and provides unimaginable mountain peaks, secluded culture, and pristine lakes. Your flight will land at Malpensa Airport in Milan, and your private transfer will await your arrival. Outside the city, the trees rise over the hills and the road meanders along the undulating landscape to reach the town of Varese in the Alpine Foothills.  Nestled between Lake Maggiore and the Como province, you and your partner will notice the castles that rise out of the trees. The mountains shimmer with gray granite, the valleys glow emerald and the bark from the forests create a dense brown at the edge of Varese, sweeping from the shore of Lake Varese into the distance.

The antique buildings shine with colorful facades ranging from rosy pastels to bright blues. In the 17th-century, many wealthy families built second residences in the historic center of Varese, the grandest of which belonged to the Duchy of Milan, who established the Palazzo Estense in the 1700s. The graceful façade looks south into the Italianate Estensi Gardens, accentuated by ponds and a large Lebanon cedar. The breeze carries the aroma of fresh blossoming flowers mixed with the pure alpine air. Your private transfer will escort you to a luxurious hotel located in a former palace. Carrara marble provides an elegant and classic ambiance blending effortlessly with the Art Nouveau décor.

Italy Travel Agent Review: Cinque Terre, Monterosso, Manarola, Lake Como, Walking & Wine Tours, 8-Night Vacation
Overall very solid trip and experience! Tina was very responsive to any questions we had.Pros:Hotels selected were great. Very good locations, clean and comfortable.Trains were very good overall. One journey was questionable (see below for con).Wine tour was a great experience. Great spot for lunch and some wine samples. Also small group in 2 vans was perfect.Private walking tour of Cinque Terre was good overall (scenery was spectacular!). Tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and willing shared information about the surroundings. Tour guide was also a con (see below).Cons:Questionable train journey was having a private shuttle to go from hotel in Monterosso to the La Spazia train station. When we boarded the train the first stop was.... Monterosso?? This meant an extra charge (and additional 2 hours of time!) for the private shuttle to go back to the train station which in turn stopped in the town we stayed in. Train station was only 700m away so it was not inconvenient to go to (certainly better than what was provided). Private walking tour - the guide was exerting gentle pressure to not do the last section walking from Vernazza to Monterosso (walking tour from Manarola to Monterosso) as it was not as interesting or scenic. He suggested not doing this walk 3 times before we said that our expectation was to complete the walk as that is what we paid for. He was fine and took us but it was still a little odd.Lake Como - initially was to have been a small tour but a large bus tour was the substitute since the small tour did not have enough people. This tour company initially did not have our names and so that took time to work through but thankfully we did (someone else on tour had a similar issue and were told to either pay for the tour or find their own way back to Milan). The tour itself was mediocre with guides that were not very interested nor interesting to listen to. Plus, with the expectation of a small tour, a large tour bus group is not appealing.

Review: Italy Family Vacation, Milan, Rome, Florence, Venice, Parma, Modena, San Gimignano, Lake Como, Dolomites Snowmobiling

Thanks for helping me organize my family (of 10 with diverse age from 15 to 63) trip to Italy, from Dec 17 to Dec 31. Whilst different member of my family have different expectation and requirement, I would like to comment you and your team on having planned an excellent trip that not only met each and everyone's interest and expectation but truly exceeded it.

Your planning have brought us to the lovely cities of Parma, Modena, Florence, Orvieto, Civita Di Bagnoregio, Naples, Rome, Venice, Cortina d'Amprezzo and back to our starting point Milan. Throughout the trip, we have a well balance itinerary that covered

- beautiful churches such as the Duomo in Milan, Rome, Florence,

- archeological site like Pompeii, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon, Pisa, Verona (learning more about romeo and Juliet)

- great local eating places (recommended by the guides you chose)

- lovely country side and unique sight in San Gimignano, Civita Di Bagnoregio, Orvieto, Lake Como,

- great gallery likes Uffizi, Academia

- Interesting activity such as Snow Mobile excursion in Cortina, Learning Cooking

- Shopping activities

With so much, yet your team immaculate planning never have us rushing from sight to sight, we were both able to enjoy and learn as much as we can of each sight and at times added more activities.

The team of guides you chose, have truly turn stone and history into exciting stories that the provided the group deeper understanding of the sights we visited and saw. Really like to thank each on of them like our guides in Florence, Pisa, San Gimignano, Orvieto and Civita Di Bagnoregio, Naples and Pompeii, Rome, Verona, Venice and Milan.

But most importantly, thank you for getting our driver, he truly ensure our comfort whilst driving steadily through jams on our way to Naple and snow storm on our way to Cortina d Amprezzo and also took very good care of us ensuring we know what to do where we have no guides and leaving us clear instruction when we needed help. He is truly a wonder.

I will definitely tell my friends heading to Italy about this company.... A wonderfully great experience.

Italy Vacation Review: Milan, Cinque Terre, Lake Como, Venice, Monterosso, Levanto, Vernazza

Zicasso's travel company helped us plan an amazing 10-day trip to northern Italy. We traveled to Milan, Cinque Terre, Lake Como, and departed from Venice. She booked us into wonderful four-star local hotels and curated unique experiences to make our vacation richer and memorable.

The highlights included:

The culinary walking tour in Milan with a private host who was knowledgeable about the local cuisine and Milanese history and culture.

The pesto-making class in Vernazza (Cinque Terre). We were the only ones in the class. We made pesto in the traditional way, with mortar and pestle, and sampled local wines and cheeses. Our instructor was fantastic.

The private boat trip around Lake Como for an up-close look at the amazing beauty of the lake and the opulent villas.

The walking tour in Venice with a guide who took us off the beaten path and enriched our knowledge of Venetian history and culture.

Our travel agent arranged the transfers between locations. Our drivers were on time and professional. The hotels were clean, comfortable, and every one had delicious breakfast buffets. I am in love with cappuccino!

All in all, this style of vacation cost more than I would have normally spent if I had done it all myself, but it was worth it. If I subtract the stress saved from not having to arrange transportation myself (worrying about time tables, how to get to and from train stations with luggage and kids, etc) and add in the richness that the unique experiences she arranged added to the trip, it more than made up for the cost. I also took joy in knowing she was using local vendors and hotels to support the local economy (as opposed to me booking with a bid brand just because I am familiar with them).

The trip was planned perfectly. It was exactly what we wanted. Hotels and restaurants were great. We recommend staying at the Spluga Hotel in Lake Como, Piccola Vela in Lake Garda, and Gran Duca di York in Milan. Great hotels, wonderful stay, and great locations.

Italy Travel Review: Monterosso, Tuscany, Florence, Rome, Cinque Terre, Accademia Galleria, Winery Bicycle Tour

I cannot say enough great things about this Italy travel company! I would highly recommend them to my family, friends, and anyone who is thinking of taking a trip to Italy! My husband and I just got back from a ten day vacation in Italy and thanks to this travel agency it was the best vacation we have ever taken.  We were only there 10 days and so we knew there was a lot we wanted to see and do and we could never have planned it out as well as they did! This agency did such a great job of listening to our personal preferences and all of the lodging and activities they arranged matched our interests as well as our budget perfectly!

As tourists travelling to a country we have never been to it can be very stressful to navigate transportation and guess on which tours will be worth the money vs. just another tourist trap. Since the founder of this travel agency grew up in California but has lived in Italy for many years she has a perspective of what it is like to travel from the States but also knows the in's and out's and best spots in Italy since that is where she now lives. Our agent planned our trip from the beginning, and when we arrived in Rome our first night she met us at our hotel and treated us to Sprits (a delicious Italian pre-dinner drink) to personally welcome us and go over the itinerary that she had prepared and sent us weeks before. The itinerary was very detailed and contained all of our pre-purchased train tickets, proof of purchase for our tours and excursions, as well as helpful lists for packing and extra suggestions for activities and restaurants to explore on our own. We saw and experienced the rich history of Rome and stayed in a modern hotel in the heart of the city. We relaxed in a cozy B&B in Monterosso where we took in the amazing ocean and mountain views from our bedroom window. There we had a guided hike of the 5 cities, led by our travel agency's founder!. We feel like we already knew her through the email correspondences we had leading up to the trip, but it was a special experience to spend the day with her learning about the place she calls home (and she treated us to the best food from all of her local spots). We then wrapped up the last two nights of our trip in Florence where we stayed in a beautiful, eclectic hotel that was a block away from Museum Accademia. We also went on a private bike ride/wine tour through Tuscany's Chianti wine country. And to end the trip in style, our agency arranged for us to be taken from Florence back to Rome by a private chauffeur, and scheduled a stop at a private farm in north Tuscany where we had lunch and a cheese tasting with the tour of the property and first hand look at how the cheeses that they sell to 5-star New York restaurants are aged.   There was zero stress on our end, and I can definitely say when we go back we will definitely be using the help of these agents at this Italy travel company again!!

Your overall comments on ZicassoZicasso was great, I liked that you didn't overwhelm us with too many companies to choose from but provided enough to determine which would be the best fit for us. Keep doing what your doing!
