Detailed Description

Kyushu is a land steeped in history and natural beauty. After spending one night in Tokyo, you fly to Kumamoto, one of the largest cities in Kyushu. Kumamoto is your base of operations as you explore the surrounding countryside, visiting some of the holiest spots in Japan. These temples and shrines allow you to grasp how the natural world influences Japanese religious beliefs. Also included is a tour of Mt. Aso, the largest active volcano in Japan, just east of the city.

Kagoshima is far to the south, a bay city with stunning views of Mt. Sakurajima. Here you tour Edo Period gardens. Afterward, take a cooking class where you learn how to make Satsuma-age, a fried fish dish. In the afternoon, learn about the kamikaze pilots as you tour a museum built on the airstrip where they once took off. Finally, finish your day with a paddleboat ride on one of the clearest lakes in the world.

You return to Kumamoto, to see the city and all it has to offer. Kumamoto Castle, for example, is one of the few remaining medieval castles in Japan. As you tour the inside and castle grounds, it is easy to believe that you are stepping back in time. Kumamoto is then free for you to explore for a full day. Whether you choose to picnic under the cherry blossoms or walk in the footsteps of samurai, you are sure to make many memories.

On your way to Nagasaki, you stop at Mt. Unzen. Here, you see the raw power of Japan’s volcanic forces as you step through a steaming rock field heated by the molten lava below. You will, of course, be perfectly safe. If the volcano is dormant when you visit, you may catch a glimpse of its crater. While there, learn all about how the local residents prepare for Mt. Unzen’s next eruption.

From the top of Mt. Inasa, Nagasaki is a bustling bay city. It is an international city as well, with everything from architecture to cuisine influenced by hundreds of years of interaction with Europe, China, and Korea. In the morning, you visit the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum. There you learn not only a story of destruction but one of rebirth. Nagasaki has dedicated itself to the goal of worldwide nuclear disarmament.

From Nagasaki, you travel to Hakata for one final evening in Japan. As you wander the city’s many food stalls and attractions, you reflect on your time in Kyushu, and how much more of Japan you still have to explore.

This tour is perfect for couples of all ages, friends, and families. It is best taken in mid-spring or late fall when Kyushu’s weather is ideal for outdoor touring. English-speaking guides are provided in each city. These guides can assist you with any questions that may arise during your time in Japan.

Japan Travel Review: Tokyo, Private Boat Tour, Food Tour

Zicasso's tour operator really delivered in "Zicasso style" on our three-day stay in Tokyo. We had one very knowledgeable and fun guide for our full visit. That allowed our group to get to know her and she us! We really enjoyed our private yakatabune sail. It was a fun boat with great food and an open bar! And the ramen sampling trip the evening before was informative and fun! All in all, we had a very relaxing and fun time in Tokyo following our two-week travels through the Pacific.

Travel Review: Luxury Japan Tour, Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura, Paper Making, Meditation, Bamboo Workshop, Tea Ceremony, Sushi Lesson
My brother and I just got back from our first trip to Japan. We wanted everything to be taken care of for us, from airport transfer, to accommodations, to tours and transport. Zicasso set us up with our travel company. I was contacted by their Luxury Travel Consultant, by Email and had a follow up phone call to discuss my expectations and desires for the vacation. I had very few specifics in mind, just a general idea of what I wanted (food, history, culture) and needed a lot of help. Our travel company listened to my interests and came up with an amazing itinerary suggestion. They customized the itinerary to my interests and were responsive and quick to adapt to any changes I requested throughout the planning process. They handled all the planning/logistics in regards to hotel bookings, airport transportation, setting up personal tour guides, private tours/experiences, and event tickets. I was expecting a great trip based on the itinerary provided, but I can honestly say my expectations were exceeded. Everything went very smoothly. We spent 7 days in Tokyo, 1 day and night in Hakone, and 1 day trip to Kamakura. The personal tour guides were professional, knowledgeable, and fun. They showed us around Tokyo, Hakone, and Kamakura, and made sure we were comfortable and entertained. The private bookings we had included Japanese Paper Making, discussion and meditation with a Zen master, a bamboo artisan workshop, a matcha tea ceremony with a tea master, a Ramen lunch experience with a ramen author/blogger, and a fish market experience and sushi making lesson and lunch with a Sushi chef. Each one was delightful, professional, and catered personally to our interests. In Hakone, after sight seeing, we stayed at the most charming and beautiful Ryokan and enjoyed the onsen and kaiseki dinner served in room. Kamakura was an perfect suggestion for a day trip out of Tokyo and is one of the most beautiful historic sites I've ever seen.

Japan Travel Review: Kyoto, Hakone, Naoshima, Mt. Fuji, Cherry Blossoms, Shrines, 17-Day Trip
Our trip to Japan was very interesting and different than any other trip we have taken. Traveling by train was at times challenging, but we were able to cover so much of the country by doing so. Our favorite cities were Kyoto and Hakone and should be included in any itinerary. As an outdoor museum, Naoshima Island was beautiful and so different than anything we have seen. The cherry blossoms and gardens were amazingly beautiful in Kyoto and seeing Mt. Fuji near Hakone was magical. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Jeff at the travel agency was very easy to work with. The tour was well organized and thorough. We had an 80 page itinerary!!!!!

Japan Solo Travel Review: Hakone, Tokyo Shibuya, Harajuku, & Shinjuku, Mishima Skywalk, Cable Car Ride, Nishiki market
Its happy to be home.  I'm glad I got to fly home on Friday, because typhoon Hagibis came to Tokyo the next day.  The itinerary was planned well.  After I was dropped off by the taxi at Odwara, I decided to take the bus back to Hakone to do the boat ride, because I didn't have a chance to do the boat ride after I visited the Mishima bridge.  Before I took the boat ride at Hakone, I put my luggage inside one of the lockers at the Odwara train station, and it only cost me $5.  I chose not to do luggage forwarding, because I want to have access to all my belongings at all times, and I was afraid that somebody may take something out of my luggage.   I boarded the train from Odwara at 3:42 PM to Tokyo Century Southern Tower.  I got to Tokyo Hotel around 5:30PM, because the check-in time was 3:00PM.  According to the brochure, I was supposed to be at the hotel at 12:00PM, and I thought that it was too early.  The tour guide in Tokyo and Takayama were friendly.  However, the tour guide in Kyoto, he was touching me too much.  Overall, I had a great time in Japan.

Japan Family Trip Review: Kiyomizu-Dera Temple, Shigaraki Pottery, Hozu River Cruise, Hiroshima, Visiting Places of Relatives
Our family enjoyed our trip to Japan immensely!  The trip planner did a wonderful job of getting our trip together and after a couple of times of tweaking the schedule, it was so much fun and enjoyable.  We had a few days of rain, expected during late fall, and a minor earthquake in Tokyo, which is common...so much to experience in all different ways!!  We travelled through Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Hiroshima in about 2 weeks.  Upon arrival, our guide directed us to purchase our Suica card at the airport, to avoid the fee if purchased elsewhere.  Tokyo, the first days, we explored on our own.  Hakone, Akiko, was a knowledgeable and entertaining guide!  Though it was foggy and rainy, we had a nice time in Hakone!  Kyoto, with our guide was a lot of fun.  We spent 4 days there and covered a lot of areas.  Shigaraki, was an experience to see so many pottery and raccoon pottery! Uji, very scenic and pretty along the Hozu River cruise and fall colors with temples.  Tea ceremony was educational and an experience!! Kiyomizu Temple area, my favorite!!  Hiroshima, on our own & the hotel was great!!  Stayed at the hotel at the station - very convenient next to the station and loads of food and restaurants. Really appreciated The planner putting the tour together, hotels and trains, along with the wonderful guides we had!Thank you!!  Doo mo arigato!!  Thank you, Zicasso!!
