Detailed Description
Music has always had the power to bring people together, and it has been doing so in Andalusia and Morocco long before the Western pop culture of the 20th century. For many centuries music has been both a means of escape and a vessel of unity, an art form that transcends cultural differences while it enables culture to share experiences. In Andalusia, the music of choice is flamenco. In Morocco, the music has a deep spiritual element, as it originates from holy Islamic tenets. Both styles have evolved over the last millennia, with a myriad of offshoots and new creations that keep the music fresh.
These two unique styles of music are difficult to experience outside Andalusia and Morocco. Of course, you can hear the music anywhere in the world, but it’s only in Morocco and Andalusia that you can truly experience the art forms and what they mean. Only in the home of the music can you feel the emotion and uncover the meaning behind it all while you learn to play the music for yourself.
This unique 17-day itinerary combines time spent in Andalusia with a visit to Morocco. Through the music, you will enjoy unique cultural connections with the people and the places. You’ll experience some of the greatest performers at some of the most legendary venues, from 200-year-old village taverns to spiritual open spaces beneath the stars. You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved, as you learn flamenco dancing and Sufi drumming from the experts. While music provides a focus, the 17 days are also packed with the sights and charms of iconic destinations so that you can get a real feel for the cities’ atmospheres.
Start in the Triana district of Seville, with flamenco dance lessons, exploring the city, and opportunities to watch performances. Then spend time exploring the cradle of flamenco, and follow the three-four time route through the flamenco triangle. It’s a journey full of secrets, including the sublime music venues that form the genesis of deep flamenco.
Then, you’ll fly to Casablanca and enjoy an immediate insight into the spirituality at Moulay Idriss, with local mystics that offer an understanding of the art’s fundamental roots. Over the next few days in Fes and Marrakech, you’ll join the drummers and trance dancers, and each day will focus on a different spiritual music offshoot including Issawa, Jajouka, Gnawa, and Dekka. Finish this handcrafted tour in Essaouira, the musical city that inspired Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and others.

Emily and her team planned a trip for us to Southern Spain and Morocco. We started in Seville and then went down to Morocco to end our trip in Casablanca. This was a complicated trip with multiple cities, travel between cities, guided tours, accommodation, food etc. The whole trip was spectacular and went without a hitch. There were 3 travel experts connected with us on WhatsApp throughout the whole trip. They kept us informed a day ahead on what to expect the next day. If we had any issues, they were just a text away and handled all matters promptly. There were not too many issues to truly test them out either since it was so well planned.
Emily had an exploratory call with us to understand what we wanted from the trip. Her planning of the trip pretty much lived up to everything that we wanted. All in all, I would definitely work with this team again in the future and plan to do so. I would highly recommend them to others also.

Our travel planner and his team did a fantastic job organizing my family's recent 12-day trip to Spain (10 days) and Morocco (2 days). Very pleased. We went to Barcelona, Montserrat, Valencia, Madrid, Toledo, Sevilla, Granada and Marrakech in a fast-paced tour during the less crowded month of February and it was amazing. Our travel planner worked with the budget I provided and the interests I specified to make sure that this was the trip of a lifetime! All the hotel, transport and tour arrangements went smoothly and it was well organized. Considering the eight cities, hotel, plane, train and tour details, this was very comforting. I liked that a printed copy of each item and ticket in the itinerary was ready for us when we arrived in Barcelona just in case. And when I had a couple of requests in Sevilla and Marrakech, our travel planner was available by phone to make both things happen! Many thanks!

Our travel agency planned a two week, multi-city trip for us, covering Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba, Granada, Seville, the White Villages and Barcelona. They arranged in-country hotels, transportation, drivers, guides, restaurant reservations and tours. They did an excellent job on all fronts: Professional, friendly, thoughtful and thorough. Highly recommended.
