Madrid – The Laid-Back Capital of Spain
Madrid is a laid-back capital city where so much of the city is only accessible on foot. Cobblestone lanes are dotted with tapas bars, seductive architecture is far from motor vehicles, and cafe terraces open out onto pedestrian alleyways rather than car parks. Touch down in Spain’s capital and your hotel will be in the heart of the old quarter. Just take a few steps outside and you will feel the atmosphere of the city, from the terraces that beckon to the style of the Plaza Mayor. The atmosphere gets particularly lively in the evenings when the locals wander around and you can relax on the al fresco terraces.

Detailed Description
When you receive a postcard from Southern Spain or Northern Morocco, the image is surreal. Granada’s Alhambra has such intricacy and history etched into every vaulted archway. You’ll pass through a blue entrance gate into the walled city of Fes and marvel at the Seville Cathedral or the ruins of Volubilis. These two regions are packed with monuments and mesmerizing sights. Over the two weeks, this luxury tour will ensure you get to see the best of them. More than sightseeing, these regions are all about experiences. You’ll never forget a flamenco performance, the sounds and smells of a souk, mazy pathways painted in blue, and a trail through the artwork of El Greco. With local and knowledgeable guides, this two-week luxury tour highlights the experiential, showing how the best of Southern Spain and Northern Morocco involve more than the famous sights.
You’ll arrive in Madrid, which isn’t technically part of Southern Spain, but the city makes a great contrast to Andalusia. This will allow you to experience two very different Spanish regions. Your time in the Spanish capital will include icons like the Prado and Palacio Real, along with a tapas crawl, a day trip to Toledo, and the chance to get to know the city with a local. Take the high-speed train to Cordoba to embrace the culture and style of the Moors, from the Alhambra in nearby Granada to the quaint atmosphere of the Pueblos Blancos (White Villages). Then, visit Seville, which embodies the style of this luxury tour with a series of outstanding cultural and historical attractions mixed with local experiences.
You’ll take the ferry to Morocco and spend a night in Tangier, an interesting little town with a unique history. Chefchaouen is a real gem, a seductive town in the hills where everything is painted blue. It’ll be the perfect place to relax and get to know laid-back Moroccan culture. Spend a full day exploring Morocco on your route to Fes, as the Roman ruins at Volubilis are completely different from the artisanal atmosphere of Meknes. You then will stay in the world’s largest walled city, where all five of your senses will tune into the local rhythm and style. Finally, Fes has a new international airport for your departure.

Our family had an amazing time on our 10-day trip to Morocco and Southern Spain! The itinerary that was crafted for us was wonderful, where we saw multiple cities, with simple transfers.
The tour guides in each city were wonderful, with incredible knowledge of each city and site that we toured.
The hotels in Spain that were chosen for us were also great in quality and location—ideally situated in each city. In particular, our hotel in Córdoba was beautiful, located in an historic building.
All of the transportation services used had professional drivers in modern, clean vans.
In the event that we had an issue, question, or needed a recommendation, Zicasso’s tour company was very responsive and really helpful. We really were happy with our experience in the planning and execution of our family trip!

Flawless doesn't begin to describe how incredible and meticulous the planning and taste that went into designing our Spain and Morocco trip. I reached out to Zicasso’s travel specialist far in advance, describing a dream vacation for my husband and me that included a near-impossible amount of locations to cover through both countries in only two weeks. We had tried coming up with an itinerary with another planner prior to meeting the travel specialist, but it did not work out. When we shared our vision with the travel specialist, he materialized it on paper in a way that made sense and even made adjustments that fit within our budget. We got to see every location with enough time to savor each.
The order of travel from Barcelona to Andalucía to Morocco was an intricate weave that told a story of cross-cultural exchange. We started off with Gaudí architecture and the Sagrada Família, sunsets at the Puente Nuevo, Alhambra, and Córdoba, marveled at the grandeur of the mosque cathedral, savored seafood paella and Picasso art in Málaga. We finished off road-tripping in Morocco, starting from the blue city of Chefchaouhen, continuing our journey through Casablanca, Rabat, Fes, Marrakech, and the Atlas Mountains. It was nothing short of magical.
We will never forget the beauty of the sun rising above the Atlas Mountains, private candlelit dinners on our private terrace in the riads, the colors of the souks, and the hospitality of our Moroccan hosts. Each riad was carefully selected and far exceeded our expectations. And of course, our driver in Morocco was an absolute delight and went above and beyond. Besides providing transportation, he acted as a friend who showed us the ins and outs, helping us see Morocco in a way that we would not have if we went in a large group or had chosen to come alone. Overall, my husband and I cannot recommend our travel specialist enough.

We were very happy to be matched with Zicasso’s travel consultant to arrange our travel plans. His expertise and thoughtfulness were obvious through every detail, and his suggestions proved to be the right ones in nearly every case. The transfers made the travel stress-free and smooth. The drivers were professional and most engaging, with only one slight mix-up on the location when departing Mallorca, but this caused no issue.
We returned to Zicasso because of our wonderful experience they arranged for our trip to Italy a few years ago, and this experience was equally fantastic. It was very assuring for my wife and I to receive the notices and updates from our travel consultant while our travel was in progress. He was prompt and detailed from start to finish. My wife speaks Spanish very well and loved the opportunity to interact and rebuild her vocabulary.
All hotels selected were excellent. The service quality was a standout at the hotel on Plaza de las Cortes in Madrid and the resort on Carrer de les Molins in Mallorca, in particular. The accommodation in Granada was beautiful, although just for feedback, the room location was not so good, having a full window wall at nearly ground level looking at people at a cafe — which meant keeping the blackout drapes pulled the entire time — and, consequently, a little noisy. That is just meant as a note if you book this hotel in the future. The lower levels at the back of the hotel should be avoided. That probably had more to do with what was available at check-in time, but just a note.
As we mentioned to our travel consultant during the trip, all four private tour guides we had were wonderful and very knowledgeable. The day trip to Toledo was a standout, as was the Alhambra in Granada. The horse show at the Spanish riding school fulfilled my wife's wish over many years and it didn't disappoint. Our guide in Granada stayed with us nearly an hour beyond her time (even though we mentioned the time to her). She replied that she enjoyed spending time with those who appreciated her city – and we did. We enjoyed her historical perspective very much and she seemed to enjoy it too. Our other guides were all terrific and it was evident they all enjoy their work and are proud of their cities and heritage.
We loved the horseback riding at the ranch with our guide in Mallorca. The staff there went above and beyond when my wife lost a bracelet on the trail (unknown where or when). We were nearly back at the hotel when we got a call that one of their staff had found the bracelet. The manager offered and dropped off the bracelet at the hotel that night on her way home, before we left for Barcelona. Great people!
The crowning point was ending our travel at the Sagrada Família at sunset — awe-inspiring! We really don't have any complaints or things we would change. There is much we would add, however, had we had more time (and money).
Thank you, Zicasso, and Zicasso’s travel company, for helping make a great memory for my wife and me.

The owners of Zicasso’s tour company were amazing from start to finish. They curated a custom trip for us to Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Málaga, Toledo, and Granada. They listened to our requests and came up with a brilliant itinerary that included personal drivers, hotels, dining recommendations, and tour guides. They were also so quick to respond to our questions and pivot our plans when needed. This was a very special 30th-anniversary trip for us and they knocked it out of the park.

We loved our trip to Spain and Portugal! We enjoyed each of our private tours with our tour guides in the various cities we experienced. They went above and beyond to share their knowledge of the planned sites, plus they added in individual unique sites and information along our walking route.
Zicasso’s tour company took all of our requested activities, venues, and interests to customize a trip that fit us well. They were in communication with us during our trip when a planned site was not available due to construction. Our tour guide provided us with other possible replacement options and let us choose what was of interest to us rather than them making the decision.
We tremendously enjoyed all of the cities, Madrid, Toledo, Granada, and Seville in Spain and Lisbon and Porto in Portugal. Our trip went smoothly and the activities were scheduled at a good pace for us! An extra bonus for us was seeing King Felipe VI by being in the right place at the right time near the opera house in Madrid while we were on our walking tour. We highly recommend Zicasso and the tour company.
