Detailed Description
New Zealand’s North Island has some magnificent destinations. Wellington is possibly the world’s cutest capital city and a place of laid-back rambling and enchanting cafes while Paihia is a symbol of Pacific bliss, where golden beaches and lazy afternoons go hand in hand. The North Island is made memorable by the journeys that you can take. Every mile that you travel will be part of your experience. You will travel the length of the island by train through national parks and ancient forests. You will also cruise around the Pacific on a private yacht and disembark to explore historical settlements and fly to a marine volcano by helicopter to experience hissing hot pools.
This North Island adventure includes many different means of travel, and each one offers time to rest and relax on the move. In some countries, traveling is stressful, tiring, and time-consuming, but in New Zealand, it is the opposite. You can sit back in comfort and watch the island unfold because most of your journeys have flexible timings, so you can customize the departure around your mood and energy. As this journey will provide you with downtime, you can be fully rested when arriving in new destinations. That means more energy for exploring or one that makes your vacation more enjoyable.
Handcrafted for senior travelers, this 11-day North Island tour will lead you all the way from Wellington in the south to Ninety Mile Beach and the country’s northern tip. Three days in Wellington will be a lovely way to begin. Charming cafes can be found on most street corners, and the city feels like a village that is perfect for easing into the vacation and overcoming jet lag. A birdwatching day trip to Kapiti Island will kickstart your natural encounters before you board the Northern Explorer train for a delightful wilderness journey. Nights four and five will be spent in National Park, which is a village amid a forest beneath a volcano.
White Island and Mount Tarawera are active volcanos that are complete with hissing steam, bubbling pools, and surreal colors. A helicopter tour makes them accessible to senior visitors because you do not need to walk up a volcano to discover the brilliance of an active caldera. You will continue by train on day six, meandering to Auckland through national parks and rustic farming pastures. Your North Island vacation will be completed with four days in the country’s far north. This slither of land is packed with ancient forests, intriguing towns, spectacular coastlines, and deserted islands. Four days means that you can really move at your own pace and customize each day to your interests.
Included in your tour will be morning tea in Matakana, the giant Kauri trees of Waipoua Forest, and the serene coastal village of Paihia. A day spent cruising around the Bay of Islands will contrast a 4WD excursion along Ninety Mile Beach. Both these experiences will be privately guided and epitomize a feeling that the journey can be as memorable as the destination. Maori will add their color and culture throughout the trip, including a Te Papa welcoming on your first day in addition to some guided stargazing in the far north. All you need to do is sit back, go with the flow, and admire how New Zealand unfolds.

This travel agent and the travel company team were out of this world! They crafted an amazing four-week adventure for us in New Zealand and Fiji. We started in Te Anau, NZ, where we focused on hiking and boating to both the Milford and Doubtful Sounds. We flew from Te Anau to the Nelson area at the top of the south island and fell in love with Mapua, located just 30 minutes from Nelson. We explored the Abel Tasman area extensively there. Next, we traveled (by plane again) to Russell, just across the way from Pahia and Kerikeri. It was a dream of a place, and we continued to hike, sail, and eat amazing food and drink delicious wines. Our accommodations couldn't have been better! Our travel company thought of everything! Last stop was Fiji - this their idea - make a stop in a super relaxing place on the way home back to Texas. The resort was out of a picture book - we had an extraordinary villa with our own plunge pool - the service, food, and staff were beyond amazing. We highly recommend this company - even when we had a travel snag, our agent answered his cell straight away and was on call to help us get to a solution. Can't say enough good things about him and his team!

We felt very comfortable planning our trip with Rick. We told him our interests, concerns and and the pace we wanted to travel at. He presented us with an itinerary which we spent hours reviewing along with a map, photos and and a website. Our primary hub towns were Queenstown, Wellington and Christchurch. We used two regional flights and two trains with gorgeous views of the coast and mountains. We took a few cruises and a private flight over the glaciers. Our River Dartboat excursion was cancelled when the drivers came down with Covid and the swim with the Dolphins mistakenly cancelled us off this trip. Cyclone Gabriela damaged Napier and the Coromandel Penninsula and the access roads, so we had to create an alternate plan on the ground in NZ. We added two days at Waiheke Island and attempted a hike up mount Doom and visits to the Weta Projects in Auckland and Wellington.Rick was amazingly helpful with changes that had to be made before and during the trip. He was the best!

My husband and I went on a wonderful trip to New Zealand visiting both North and South Island. The trip was originally planned for 2021 but had to be postponed until this year. I prefer working with an agent, and Lindsay from our travel agency was extremely responsive, offering helpful options and suggestions. Even though the time we spent on the North Island was right after the torrential rains, we modified the itinerary to spend four days in the Taupo area and two days in Rotorua.
We hiked in the Tongariro National Park and part of the Great Lake Pathway, sailed to view the Maori Rock Carvings, and visited Orakei Korako geothermal pools and Huka Falls in the Lake Taupo area. In Rotorua, we relaxed in the mineral pools of the spa and enjoyed the indigenous Maori experience at Te Puia.
The next 12 days were spent on the South Island where we had sunny and warm weather! One of our favorite places was Abel Tasman Park where we went kayaking and hiked the beautiful Coast Trek. We continued our adventures with a memorable heli-hiking experience on the Tasman Glacier in the Mt. Cook region, followed by visiting the unique blue penguins and Royal Albatrosses on the Otago Peninsula and enjoyed a hike and cruise on the famous Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park.
We ended our journey with three days in the Lake Wanaka area where we kayaked, hiked, and visited some of the region's famous wineries.

We have just returned from a 6 week trip to Australia and New Zealand. Our travel agents and their team at this travel company are personable, professional, knowledgeable and did an amazing job putting together our trip! Our collaboration involved several phone calls to discuss options and preferences as our trip was being organized as well as a pre-trip call to answer any questions. Our email exchange was continuous and responses were very prompt. We even received a call once during our travels to check in. Our detailed itinerary was precise and accurate. Every connection, tour, driver, hotel, etc. was on time and of excellent quality. While in New Zealand in Milford Sound our flight back to Queenstown was cancelled due to poor weather and we received a quick refund.
In Australia we visited Sydney, Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road ( a favorite of ours!), Uluru, Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef, and Hobart, Tasmania. We only stayed a few days in Tasmania but would love to return to enjoy more of the wilderness outside of Hobart.
In New Zealand we visited Auckland and then drove to the Coromandel Peninsula, Rotorua, and Napier. Then we flew to Christchurch on the South Island and drove to Mt. Cook, Queenstown, and Dunedin. If you are big fans of the outdoors, spend more time on the South Island.
Our agent selected beautiful and centrally located lodging that usually offered laundry facilities-helpful for a long trip! The travel company also provided a suggested restaurant list that proved to be excellent! We would highly recommend this company for your Down Under adventures! When we travel again to that part of the world, we will definitely call this company.
