Portugal Trip Review: Lisbon, Porto, Sintra, Nazare, Aveiro, Wineries, Cooking Class, Private Tour, Monasteries, 11-Day Travel
A big thank you to Marisa and our guide! Marisa did an exceptional job planning our 11-day private tour throughout Portugal. She coordinated with a fantastic guide. We could not have asked for a better Guide than him. His knowledge of Portuguese history, culture, and cuisine is beyond belief. Some of the highlights of our trip were the Lisbon Cooking Academy where we learned how to cook a three-course Portuguese meal. Marina was an exceptional Chef! We shopped first at a fresh market for all of the ingredients. I will upload those pictures. We then began our exploration of Portugal. The highlights of those trips were the UNESCO sites. Pena Palace and Sintra were spectacular. We had two visits to wineries one was Quinta do Quetzal (6-course meal with 5 pairings) and we also did an olive oil tasting at Mainova where we toured the olive farm. Make sure you visit the Convent of Christ and Batalha Monastery. Nazare Beach was beautiful- make sure you ask our guide for lunch or dinner reservations at Pangeia by the Sea. He always knows the best places! Especially when you get to Aveiro, there is an incredible two Michelin star restaurant there. (Salpoente) Porto has a totally different vibe than that of the bustling city of Lisbon. We did a walking food tour there that should not be missed. The typical sausage hotdog of Porto with a cold Super Bock is super fantastic. I had no idea how much I would like port wine. Douro Valley Vineyard Quinta do la Rosa is not to be missed. Great tour of the manufacturing of all of their wines followed by a tasting and 3-course lunch with pairings. We had a great port wine tasting just outside of Porto. Our last stop was Obidos where we were able to enjoy Ginja liqueur out of chocolate cups. Our last night was a sailboat tour of the Lisbon harbor, what a way to end an incredible vacation! Thank you again, to Marisa and our guide.

Portugal Tour Review: Lisbon, Ericeira, Douro Valley, Porto, Local Cuisine, Winery, 10 Nights

Thank you, Zicasso, for connecting us to our travel company. I wasn't sure how this process would work out, but it was amazing. You made it easy to connect with a local travel agent and create the perfect vacation. Our agent provided a customized trip that exceeded all our expectations!

We wanted to experience a mix of city, seaside, and countryside, and she delivered perfectly. Our itinerary included time in Lisbon, a few days in the charming seaside village of Ericeira, a stay in the stunning Douro Valley, wrapped up with an exciting visit to Porto. Each location was beautifully chosen and the hotels she selected were top-notch.

A special shout out to our tour guides, who ensured our trip was extra fun and engaging. Their knowledge and friendly demeanors made each day enjoyable.

Overall, I highly recommend our agent and her company to anyone looking to explore Portugal!

Portugal Luxury Vacation Review: Lisbon, Porto, Cascais, Cooking Class, Food Tour, Sunset Sailing, 10-Day Travel

Our trip to Portugal was nothing less than spectacular. From our first day in Lisbon, where we took a food tour of the city and a sunset sailboat ride on the river, to planning all our city visits along the path north to Porto, everything was well planned and really immersed us in understanding the amazing beauty and history of the country.

Traveling back south down the coast and spending a couple of days in Cascais was so much fun. We ended back in Lisbon, learning to cook typical Portuguese food - our group of four women, daughters, and cousins, had the most memorable experience. We had a driver and an extraordinary historian for most of the trip.

Zicasso never disappoints in finding the best local tour companies for tailor-made experiences. Jose worked with me to find the perfect combination of activities. An all-round five-star experience.

Portugal Luxury Trip Review: Lisbon, Porto, Douro River Valley Cruise, Local Cuisine, History, Culture, Fado Experience

We had a very memorable trip to Portugal in December 2023. I would rate it as one of our best family vacations – very meticulously planned and executed by Zicasso's travel partner.

At the outset, our travel agency assigned a dedicated consultant who took a lot of effort to understand what we wanted from the vacation – the kind of accommodations, travel, key activities and areas of interest, and our budget. Based on this, she came up with a draft travel itinerary and proposal which we reviewed and finalized over a couple of Zoom calls and emails. She was very resourceful and creative in making the most of the seven days we planned to spend in Portugal. She was in regular touch right up to the day of the trip to make sure our airport pick-up, tour guide, hotels, and all bookings were in place, and communicated very clearly in a detailed day-by-day tour itinerary document.

We were assigned a dedicated tour guide for the entire trip. He was excellent, very knowledgeable of Portuguese and European history and culture, and, most importantly, had a great way of engaging with the entire family.

All aspects of the tour, be it hotel accommodation in Lisbon and Porto, the airport pick-up and drop, the various tours and activities, were very well executed. I would strongly recommend Zicasso and our tour operator to anyone considering a trip to Portugal.

Luxury Portugal Travel Review: Lisbon, Convento de Cristo, Palace of Pena, Óbidos, Sailboat Sunset Tour, Food & Wine
I can't say enough about our travel agency. Jose, the company owner reached out to me when we were first researching tour companies to use for our trip. We set up a Zoom call to get a better understanding of what types of things we might be looking for on our trip. He was always very courteous, honest, and prompt with sending us an itinerary (which we adjusted only slightly to better suit our interests). My husband and I spent time in the northern half of Portugal from May 4-14 with our tour guide. We were picked up from the airport on our arrival in Porto, and had excellent service through to being dropped off at the airport to Lisbon on our return flight. Our guide texted me via WhatsApp as we were picking up our luggage, and had a sign with my name on it as we walked out of the luggage area. He was amazing--extremely knowledgable, entertaining, well-informed, and extremely fluent in English (as well as several other languages!). We just loved that everything was so well coordinated and planned out. Even down to what to have for lunch, we really didn't have to make any decisions. We really wanted to put our trust into someone who knew the country and culture, and I don't believe we could have asked for anything better. I was worried that some of our trip might feel too touristy or cliche with certain restaurants, hotels, and activities, but so many of our experiences felt unique and as though we were in on a secret! It was clear from the clientele in some of the restaurants we dined in that it was a local spot, or slightly off the tourist path. The sailboat sunset tour in Lisbon was another highlight which made us feel extra special--a beautiful evening in the waters around Lisboa on a small boat with just four of us--the skipper, our tour guide as our server of wine and charcuterie, and my husband and I. The accommodations were spot on, if not slightly nicer than what I was expecting. I will add only one comment of caution, but only to assure future clients that this is the real deal. After confirming our trip with Jose, we paid 20% of the final cost. They never said anything to me about when I would pay the remainder, but had assumed I would have to pay the sum prior to our trip starting. I later found on the travel agency FAQ website that the remainder of the sum is paid on day one (though we actually paid the remainder on our last day). As the trip got nearer, I was worried about the legitimacy of what I had signed up for--after all, no one I knew had used Zicasso or this particular tour company. I reached out to see if they needed anything else, and it was only a week or so before where they asked for our flight information and told me that our tour guide would be waiting for us in the airport. For reasons that are completely unfounded, I wasn't sure if I truly trusted that this would be the case (it was, so clearly my own trust issues!). I had also wondered what exactly we were doing because the itinerary wasn't the most detailed, but I also recognized that not all details would be there. But once we arrived and our guide introduced himself to us, we knew we would be in excellent hands. Overall, this travel agency exceeded our expectations. They excelled at planning and adjusting our itinerary to meet our needs and interests. We will not forget Portugal anytime soon! We recommend using this travel agency without reservation.
