Granada – Arrive in Granada with an Introduction to the Albaicin

Granada is often called the “Soul of Andalusia,” due to its atmospheric labyrinthine streets and gorgeous panoramas of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The romantic city highlights the changing times of historical Spain with preserved architecture and a cultural heritage that stems from the Moorish kingdom of the 13th- 15th centuries. With a rich tradition of Gypsy and Jewish influences, and the predominant Christian customs post the Reconquista that shifted historical mosques into lavish churches, there is much to learn about and take in.

Your flight will arrive at Federico Garcia Lorca Granada Airport, where your private transfer greets you at baggage claim. The striking beauty of the city will be immediately obvious as the Alhambra looms over the streets atop the summit of al-Sabika. After settling into the comforts of your luxury accommodations in the heart of the city, your guide will greet you in the lobby eager to introduce you to the charms of the Albaicin neighborhood. Strolling along Carrera del Darro has you following the pathway of one of the city’s oldest streets alongside the picturesque banks of the River Darro. Street vendors and cafes fill the air with the scents of coffee and delicious sweets like almond merengues and traditional baklava while performers bring a festive atmosphere beneath the shading trees in front of the storybook bridges arching over the water.

Detailed Description

The passion of Andalusia is on display with beauty, splendor, and intimacy during your 7-day romantic tour of Spain. Famous golden beaches, snowcapped mountain peaks, gilded cathedrals, and mosaic-filled palaces accentuate the seductive ambiance of the cities and towns across the region. The aroma of orange blossoms fills the air as the essence of history becomes an exotic backdrop. Influences of fascinating cultures emanate from the artwork to the works of artisans, tearooms to cafes. Visit Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Cadiz, and the whitewashed villages of Andalusia for a glamorous introduction into the idyllic landscape and dreamy architecture for an extravagant romantic week in Spain.

Your exploration of Spain will begin with two nights spent in Granada. Enjoy the notion of duende, the spirit of art encapsulated by the heightened state of emotion you will feel as you wander the maze-like cobbled lanes, the captivating taverns, historical neighborhoods, and iconic courtyards of the Alhambra. One night in the city of Cordoba points a lavish spotlight on a city that brims over with mesmerizing archways, stone-paved alleyways of medieval design, and overhanging trees that bring shade from the sunlight in view of buildings shimmering with golden stones. Whether visiting the famous Mezquita, or venturing to the fascinating antique palace, the charisma of the city is evident around every corner.

Three nights in the remarkable city of Seville will sweep you into a dreamy Spanish past both intimate and colossal with Gothic architecture soaring above the streets and hidden plazas filled with the soothing aroma of orange citrus. Aristocratic mansions highlight the Moorish past while contemporary cafes offer both elegant and delicious traditional cuisine. Using the city as a base, the romance of greater Andalusia becomes more accessible, whether lingering around Seville to visit the Royal Alcázar and sophisticated Plaza de España or traversing the countryside to uncover the amorous ambiance of whitewashed villages like Arcos de la Frontera and Ronda. The city of Cadiz on the Atlantic coast boasts the brilliance of luxurious golden sands and elegant historical architecture for a marvelous combination of culture and relaxation. Don’t take just our word for it - consider reading some of our travelers’ reviews of Spain, and see how you can customize your own dream vacation.

Spain Family Tour Review: Seville, Madrid, Mijas, Malaga, Marbella, Granada, Marbella, Lisbon, Flamenco, Museum, Winery, Cruise
Our daughter Sophie had been studying abroad since January in Seville, Spain. We needed to plan a family trip to see where she was living and enjoy her experiences there. We live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and had no idea where to even begin with our adventures in Spain!  So, I went online and through many reviews of travel agencies, I found Zicasso to have great reviews. Once we decided on a really good fit with Rosa from the travel agency who teams up with Zicasso for the region you are visiting. We flew out to join our daughter mid-May. ( we booked everything with our Guide Rosa about 6.5 months ahead of time) She sent us an App called UnMapped and we had full itinerary, contact names, phone numbers of drivers, tour guides, our main contact email and text through What's App. So I never felt lost or misguided. They took care of us from the moment we got off the airplane in Madrid, to a speed train to Seville, daily tours and guides and then finally our driver to pick us up and get us to the Malaga airport.  With 6 people in our party, this made things so easy so we could simply enjoy our time together on a family vacation in Spain. We had an awesome journey to the southern beauty of Spain's Andalucia region. Cities include Seville, Ronda, Mijas, Malaga, Marbella, Granada & a layover in Portugal's Lisbon. We used Zicasso - a travel agency with Rosa. I highly recommend this company. So many ways we enjoyed the vibe of Spain- from guided walking city tours, Tapas & Flamenco, wine tasting at a Vineyard ( the Flamenco museum and show was absolutely stunning!) A visit to the moorish cultural palace & fortress Alhambra in Granada, variety of cathedrals, Picasso museum, the Royal Alcazar Castle in Seville and a winery visit to Chinchilla in the rolling hills of Ronda. Sophia our daughter even surprised us with a special boat cruise on the Guadalquivir River in Seville with a champagne toast! Our feet are tired and hearts are full! What an adventure! Don't stumble around when you take a trip- hire a Guide to do it right! Bravo to Rosa and her entire team that Guided us- drivers included- were phenomenal!!!  5 plus Stars!!!

Spain Vacation Review: White Villages, Madrid, Andalusia Region, Olive Oil Mill, Family Run Winery, Culture & History
What a grand adventure we had on this travel company's Classical Tour Andalucia and Madrid. The accommodations were comfortable ,charming and convenient. All the guides were knowledgeable and passionate about their history and city sites. Details concerning travel and transfers were easy because our travel planner had arranged all and explained thoroughly in printed itinerary. We had tickets provided to shows and museums and venues or guides provided them. Delicious tapas breaks most afternoons in lovely spots. Tinta verano blanco and vermut were happy discoveries.Loved seeing the Alhambra, Mesquite  and patios in Cordoba, Sevilla was fascinating. Ronda and White villages views were breath taking.

Travel Review: Tour of Spain, Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastian, Granada, Prado Museum, Alhambra, Mezquita, Sagrada Familia

Our travel agency's expertise, organization and guidance of our tour of Spain was exceptional. This travel planner is a great listener and thoroughly reviewed our profile to tailor the trip to our specific interests: architecture, museums and gastronomy. We traveled to Barcelona, San Sebastian, Madrid, Sevilla, and different towns in Andalucía. In addition to fantastic walking, museum and food tours (Tapas, Pintxos and Txakoli), Our travel planner arranged day trips to Dali Museum (Figueres), Bilbo Guggenheim, Toledo, Cordoba, and Granada. Our tour guides were all local, certified guides with expertise in art history, Spain’s history and local foods.  The guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They freely offered suggestions for dinner and activities on our free day in each city.  Our travel planner encouraged us to self-drive from Sevilla to the Costa del Sol region. Our drive through the mountains was spectacular with acres of sunflowers and beautiful white villages.  We stopped in Ronda and spent the afternoon exploring the city with its breath-taking ravines and gorge spanning bridges.  We would not be able to self-drive without this travel agency loaning us their Wi-Fi Away device that allowed us to use Google Maps to guide us to various places.  In addition, he emailed us our detailed itinerary with times, guides’ name, and description of our activities. At our first hotel, we found our full travel package neatly organized with several envelopes containing our train/plane tickets, maps for each city and side trips, restaurant suggestions by city/town and another copy of our itinerary. Our travel planner kept in contract via text to welcome us and gentle reminders to bring our passports to Alhambra. He was available to us 24/7 as he was during our planning process. People inquire “What was your favorite city or place?” and we can’t pick just one:  it is like asking which of your children do you love the most.  We are already thinking about where to travel next with this travel agency, perhaps back to Spain and on to Portugal or Morocco. Thank you again to our travel planner and your entire staff for an unforgettable trip.

Spain Tour Review: Granada, Alhambra, Cordoba, Ronda, Jerez, Seville, Cooking Class, 10-Day Trip
The travel agency (Jordi and the team) deserves 5 Stars + for the itinerary and experience they provided for our 10 day trip to Southern Spain last month. Starting with the itinerary / planning last Fall through the execution with their hotels / guides / drives / excursions when we landed in Granada, it made for an amazing, luxurious, informative, and stress free vacation. We wanted to visit the Alhambra while in Granada but were open to suggestions for the remainder of our trip. Jorde put together experiences we never knew of - Medina Zahara (Cordoba), the White Villages, Bullring / Arab Bath Tours in Ronda, a Bull Breeding Finca (farm) and Sherry tasting in Jerez. The guides for each of these excursions were personable and knowledgeable ( each one was 5 Star). Our most unexpected experience and maybe our most memorable was the cooking class in Seville. It's a highlight we can't stop talking about ... incredible!!The team was phenomenal in making hotel arrangements, dinner reservations, keeping us updated everyday of our guides names / phone numbers and answered any questions promptly ... we felt they were with us each day even though he was in his office in Barcelona.    Gracias Jordi and the team for a wonderful trip !!!

Travel Review: Spain 40th Birthday Celebration, Cordoba, Sevilla, Ronda, Malaga, Granada, Caminito del Rey, Hot Air Balloon Ride
Our travel specialist planned the perfect personalized trip for me and my sister to explore southern Spain in celebration of my 40th birthday. She worked with us to incorporate just the right amount of planned activities and free time, making sure that we could maximize our time in country and in each city (Cordoba, Sevilla, Ronda, Malaga, and Granada, with stops in between). Our travel specialist was available at every step, and at a moment's notice (like when I had quick questions about whether or not we could wear shorts inside the Mezquita), and she arranged for a wonderful surprise at our first hotel to wish me a happy birthday (such a thoughtful gesture!). Every hotel chosen was more gorgeous than the last-- small, boutique type hotels with impeccable service and locations that couldn't be beat. Each and every guide we encountered during our trip (chosen by our travel specialist) was the kindest, most knowledgeable, and most helpful-- each one more memorable than the last and helping to make the moments that much more special along the way. Our guide, who spent two days with us between Ronda and Malaga, and the other guide, who toured us around Nerja and Frigiliana, felt like family in no time at all and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. Knowing my hobby of photography, they sought out particular view points for incredible shots, and always had the best recommendations for restaurants, shopping, and more. Our guide joined us on our hike through the Caminito del Rey, and without him, we would have missed out on SO much of what we were seeing, PLUS he looks photos of us that we will cherish and even surprised us with some snacks he packed to keep us going (totally unexpected and SO sweet!).We were so pleased with everything, from start to finish, and had such an incredible time-- and that's thanks to and her wonderful team! We wouldn't hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to anyone heading to Spain!

Spain Vacation Review: Ronda, Cordoba, Granada, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Zahara, Alhambra, Prado Museum, Bike Tour

My husband Marc and I signed up with Zicasso for a 16 day trip to Spain.  Neither of us had been to Spain before and despite much research,  travel books and visits to another agent in our home state of Washington - we were overwhelmed.  Zicasso hooked us up with this travel agent.  Her English was great  - which was good because our Spanish was not.  Our travel agent emailed us questions about our activities, travel styles etc.  We communicated by email and phone and she sent us a very professional suggested travel itinerary which was VERY helpful to get us moving.

I highly recommend this travel agent.  She is professional and no detail was too small.  Our pretty extensive trip was completely stress free.  She was available 24/7 by text and phone to answer any questions, from how to tip, to good restaurants, to answering questions on local customs in the area. We had our tickets to the Prado, Alhambra and Sagrada pre-booked as well as all our internal train and plane tickets.  Soooo nice not to have to hassle with any of it!  I had a friend travelling at the same time who was not able to get into the Alhambra.

Our agent arranged a drop off and pick-up for a great bike ride between our Cordoba and Zahara stays and a sherry and olive oil tasting that was very intimate and nice.  We had a really nice guy drive us from Zahara to Ronda and it was a like a personal tour.  I just don't think we would have experienced Spain in the same way without this travel agent.  She needs to expand to other Countries so we can use her for all our trips :)
