Zurich – Arrive in Zurich and Enjoy an Introductory Tour of the Vibrant City

Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city and brings the rush of a commercial center with the charm of a small, historical town. Electric trolleys run along the financial heart that leads to the train station as museums exhibit regional history and stunning European artwork. Your flight will land at Zurich Airport, and your private transfer will meet you at the baggage claim. Outside of the airport, pockets of emerald trees rise above homes with red-shingled rooftops as the mountains tower over the horizon for an unmistakable skyline. Inside the city, you will pass the bustle of the contemporary streets, including the Bahnhofstrasse, a nearly 4,000-foot long stretch of boutique and high-end shops that are adorned with fountains, public art, and jewelry that glistens in the windows.

You will make your way to Old Town and the heart of Zurich with its 14th-century streets and structures. Your guide will meet you at your hotel after you have had a chance to settle in and then lead you on an introductory tour to the charms of history. Antique buildings reflect in the tranquil waters of the Limmat River as the Grossmunster features the iconic towers of the city across the river from the Fraumunster Church. Charlemagne founded the church in the 9th century, and the structure maintains elements of its original architecture.

The interior highlights the vibrant hues of stained glass windows that illuminate Biblical tales. In the late afternoon, your tour will bring a sweet twist with visits to the best of Zurich’s decadent sweet shops that continue to use traditional, and even ancient recipes. Each shop has a unique specialty, from chocolate bars to pralines, and you will need to taste them all.

Switzerland Trip Review: 10-Day Tour

General Feedback

Positives:

Our agent was prompt and courteous.

We had a great driver, courteous, prompt, flexible, having a private driver was really a treat and made the overall trip more enjoyable.

All 3 guides in Lucerne, Geneva Zurich were on time, passionate about their home cities and knowledgeable.

We enjoyed the Max Chocolatier activity, especially the story behind Max. Our instructor was passionate about her role at Max’s. This was fun.

We loved the gondola and cable car and boat ride at Mt. Pilatus.

Hotels

We suggest removing the hotel in Grindelwald and St. Moritz from your rotation, for various reasons.

We realize the a/c issues were addressed to you during our initial stay, but we think it’s worth noting again. A trip of this magnitude, based on the investment, we expected a/c in all hotels. At a minimum, you should inform your US guests ahead of time of any hotels that you are offering that don’t have a/c.

No a/c which in both cases presented a problem because even though the mountain air may have been crisp and cool, leaving the windows open in both cases presented extreme noise from outside at 3:00 am with other travelers screaming and yelling.

Our group liked the location of the hotel in Grindelwald since it was a great location, the restaurant was fabulous and the overall vibe was great. It was an easy walk to the gondola for the First Mountain.

The St. Moritz hotel was sub-par in general. While you can see with the marble staircase that it once was a hotel with grandeur, it no longer presents itself in that manner and the rooms are old and tired.

Other Activities

The suggestion of visiting Murren village fell short for some of us and there was little to no activity there.

The wine tasting was nothing like what anyone thought, it was too commercial. Most were under the impression we were going to a vineyard. This was basically a wine store. The time spent here could have been used in a better fashion.

There was no mention that the Olympic Museum was right down the street from our hotel in Lausanne. We learned this right before our visit and some were interested. The limited hours we were in Lausanne did not allow for a visit.

While we enjoyed the cheese fondue-making class, you may not have been aware that the Edelweiss hotel that hosted this event was under major construction and the restaurant where the activity took place was closing the very next day for renovations. In hindsight, we regretted staying for the dinner portion and would have preferred to complete the fondue portion and head back to Lausanne to enjoy the beautiful hotel Angleterre & Residence hotel surroundings. The dinner meal served was mediocre at best.

We were disappointed that the last two days allowed for no shopping. Since we arrived in St. Moritz at around 5:00 pm Saturday, all stores were closed. Sunday while in Zurich, we learned that all shops were closed.

We realized the train stop was St. Moritz, but some thought we could do without that stop. The lack of shopping and things to do was a killer.

We suggest you communicate with future guests about the airport process in Zurich. We arrived at our gate about 20 minutes before boarding and were surprised by the long lines for passport control and then the tram ride to our E gates. Having a better understanding of the potential time involved with each of these steps would have alleviated some concerns.

Switzerland Vacation Review: Hiking, Wine, Matterhorn, Lake Leman, 1 Week

We had a great time in Switzerland. It was a fast and furious trip, but everything went as planned, except one train delay. We saw a lot and loved our guides. One was wonderful with the history in Geneva. He was prompt and we enjoyed the walk. We also had a great guide in Montreux.

We went to Cully and hiked around the wine country. We loved the small villages and the wine was delicious!! The views were incredible all along Lake Leman. We began in Lucerne and were able to jog along the river. Our guide was always smiling and very informative!!

We missed our chocolate tour because of the train. It was a little disappointing that we had to pay for it since it was out of our control.

Zicasso’s agents did a wonderful job setting up the hotels and guides. We had an incredible view of the Matterhorn!! They checked on us and adjusted our schedule as needed. It was a great trip!!

Luxury Switzerland Vacation Review: Lucerne, Grindelwald, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Zermatt, Montreux, Geneva
I had an amazing experience in Switzerland thanks to my travel agency, who put together my itinerary. I was able to visit many stunning locations in ten days. The itinerary was detailed and accurate. We used the train for transportation and the timing and for each train was listed and precise, therefore no time was wasted. We started in Lucerne, and then to Grindelwald, Interlaken, and Lauterbrunnen. Then we went to Zermatt, Montreux, and finally, Geneva. We enjoyed every city and we were able to visit all of the attractions and activities, which made the trip enjoyable to my 17 and 10 year old. I can not thank our travel company enough! They answered all of my questions almost immediately and booked dinners for us at the most exquisite restaurants. When I forgot my purse on the train they helped me by calling the train station and filing a report. I returned to the US, and when I received an email that my purse was found they continued to help me by contacting the Lost and Found Service so that they can mail it home. I highly recommend this travel agency. It truly is the best travel company I have ever dealt with!

Review: European Vacation, Switzerland, Italy, France, Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome, Lucerne, Lauterbrunnen, Zurich, Tuscany

This summer, I traveled to Europe for the time with my Husband. This travel agent planned a wonderful trip for us and I must say that I am still in my vacation hangover! :) We visited Italy, Switzerland, and Paris.

Italy: I had THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE in Italy. We visited Venice, Florence, and Rome. Venice was indescribably romantic. Our hotel was hotel was located in the heart of the city so we covered the entire city by foot. We had a private tour guide and she was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

After two days of stay in Venice, we next traveled by train to Florence, the fashion capital of Italy. On the first day, our agent had planned a private city tour for us. Our private tour guide was amazing! She told us about the city, best places to buy leather and best gelato place in Florence. Our hotel was strategically located. It was just 0.3 miles from the train station so we literally reached in 5 mins to our hotel. The next day was group tour to Ufizzi gallery and that's where we did not have a good time. The tour company was nice but the tour guide was not all that great. We received differential treatment there. I was not feeling well that day so instead of asking how I am doing, the guide asked my husband if we are done with our tour. WOW! I don't know if it was because of our color, race, or nationality.

The next day we went to explore the wilderness, the cypress-lined vineyards of Tuscany. We visited a small medieval town and then headed to wine tasting. There, we spent hours in lingering over a meal in the open air, had one of the best meals of our lives as the fresh ingredients were picked up from the market that day and the hosts were as gracious as your own grandmother. We truly enjoyed the glace of Italian culture there. The trip to Chianti was the best part of our entire journey.

The next day we traveled to the sun-washed city of Rome. We had a beautiful time there too.

Then We flew to Zurich. Our room was amazing and had a breathtaking view of the lake Lucerne with the city line of Lucerne. After two nights in Lucene, we then traveled to Lauterbrunnen. As they say, Switzerland is "Heaven on Earth" we actually did witness that heaven in Lauterbrunnen. The view of the valley of 72 waterfalls was incredible. Our hotel was located near the train station and the had a spectacular view from our room. Unfortunately, the hotel did not have any help available. Even for a glass of hot water, we had to climb up and down 3 floors, which was disappointing. Plus restaurants were super expensive and the food was terrible.

Then we went to Paris. Paris was again unforgettable. Because of our travel agent, we got to see the Batille's day parade and the gorgeous view of Eiffel tower in fireworks! That experience was unforgettable.

Overall, the trip was amazing. Our agent did put together an amazing itinerary for us and we had a time of our life there.  Highly recommended!

Luxury Switzerland & Italy Vacation Review: Lucerne, Mürren, Montreux, Lake Como, Milan, Winery Visit, Cruise, 2-Week Trip

This travel company planned an excellent trip for our party of four to Lucerne, Mürren, and Montreux, Switzerland, and then a finale to Lake Como and Milan. We can’t say enough about the accommodations that were chosen for us. Stunning water and Mountain views. Locations were excellent.

We were given excellent guidance for tipping, packing, and all things travel. Dev and her team were available at all times to guide us through any unexpected or uncomfortable situation. Some favorite excursions were a charming visit to a family owned winery in Montreux for a tasting including fondue in a stone cottage with a wood fire. Also the cruise on Lake Como in a beautiful wood boat with a glass of wine. Stunning.Truly a trip of a lifetime!

Review: Switzerland & Italy 2-Week Tour, Zurich, Lucerne, Grindewald, Neuchatel, Zermatt, Montreux, Milan, Wineries, Waterfalls
I thought the travel company did an excellent job in setting up drivers and having them where they needed to be and when they needed to be there. All drivers were polite and engaging. In some cases like the trip from Zurich to Lucerne or Lucerne to Grindelwald, the drivers were like a guide as they offered to stop for supplies if needed and/or offered and recommended places to stop for pictures which was much appreciated. There was some confusion on what our itinerary stated would happen and what actually happened with drivers/guides which I cannot tell if the issue was with the guide or the itinerary description. For example: 1. The VIP Lucerne tour described "tasting specialties of the local cuisine in very authentic restaurants out of the beaten paths. It was also listed as 1 of the 16 meals included. While the tour guide was very engaging and our tour was a pleasure and she was very knowledgeable about the area, there was no food tasted or sampled and no restaurants visited. The only thing that happened food or drink-wise was when a big storm suddenly hit and we ran inside a wine shop for shelter and had a glass of wine to get out of the rain. I paid for the wine.2. Our VIP Day trip to the magical Valley of the 72 waterfalls stated "The guide would pick you up from your hotel at 10:00am. The driver that picked us up readily admitted he had never been to the area and was not aware of the itinerary agenda. He dropped us off at the Trumblebach Falls and waited for us then drove us to town so we could photograph the falls. Our driver was very polite and engaging.  3. In Neuchatel, our itinerary described "Satisfy your inner sommelier at a local vineyard, and scratch beneath the surface of the regions wine scene as we head underground to the watching cellars. Sample  a banquet of local specialties ranging from dry whites to full bodied reds and learn Neuchatel on the way to our exclusive Vineyard visit.  The region of Neuchatel is a famed world over for its wine.  The vineyard owners will greet us at the gate and take us deep into the cavernous cellars where wine is produced...   Glimpse inside the giant casks used for fermentation and discover the ...  after our lesson, we will have the chance to sample a full range of wine crafted at the vineyard, guided by a regional expert"  We did not visit a local winery and did not go to any cellars, did not see any casks. Instead, we drove over an hour to Veevey to a winery that was closed due to a private booking. Then the driver took us to another winery in Veevey where we sampled wines. The winery was beautiful and the employee was knowledgeable and very engaging. The problem was the only reason we went to Neuchatel was because of their wine reputation and we had planned our own outing to Veevey when we were going to Montreux on the next leg of our tour. Again, this driver was nice and paid for our wine but apparently, he was not aware of what our tour was to involve based on the agenda sent to us.I don't want to come across like we didn't enjoy our trip, the trip was wonderful and overall we enjoyed our time in all locations. I would probably use this travel company again if we take another European trip. I would just be much more specific as to what was and wasn't included.
