Chiang Rai - Golden Triangles

Welcome to one corner of the wondrous Golden Triangle, known for the meeting of the Laotian, Myanmar, and Thai borders. You will be met at the airport by a private, English speaking guide who will take you to Chiang Saen harbor along the Mekong River. Your immediate view of Thailand is a world removed, where the culture continues to protrude from the modern cities, brimming through viewable temples and radiant elephant imagery.

Arrive at the harbor where the river’s width can be seen, opening up to Laos and Myanmar on either side of the water. The lush flatlands give way to rolling mountains on the horizon. The Golden Triangle riverbanks are considered frontier within Southeast Asia, a place where many goods, legal and questionable, often flow between the neighboring countries. The vibrant colors of local fruits pulse on boats and in the markets, from jackfruit to bananas, where the firm green outer layer is more vivid, calling attention to its fresh sweetness.

Board the boat and venture out to the actual intersection of the three countries; the water is cold, the air is warm, and the invisible line that separates the areas has an emotional draw, even in its intangible nature. In the late afternoon you will settle into the luxuriousness of your resort. Each room is filled with modern comforts that overlook the fabulous, lush jungle. Whether relaxing in your room or sitting within the warm infinity pool that looks like it drifts over the canopy, you can rest relaxed and cozy, and ready for the secrets of Siam.

Detailed Description

The secrets of Siam will be revealed on this 8-day Thailand vacation through the jungle cities and undulating mountains that have hidden the cultures and traditions of the past and present for millennia. From the Golden Triangle to the meandering riverbanks, the sensational resorts to elephant splendor, you will discover the historical and modern majesty of the countryside and the cityscape. Villages continue to populate the jungle. Elephants are still celebrated throughout the northern territory. You can find gilded temples and incredible crafts, each telling you another secret.

Begin to unravel Thailand’s whispered secrets with your arrival in Chiang Rai. The Golden Triangle doesn’t just sparkle in a gilded light but also continues to inspire and awe people that venture to and through its waterway. Visiting the harbor of Chiang Saen will take you to the actual border where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. Along the banks of the Mae Kok River you will journey to the various tribes that have survived off of the land and within the jungle for centuries, crossing the borders at will, dependent upon the stability of the kingdoms. Whether you choose to canoe or mountain bike, try your hand at Thai cuisine or venture into the village of Baan Thaton, the days will whisper wonders from every direction.

Your search for Siam’s secrets continues en route to Chiang Mai. Whether relaxing in the morning mist or venturing out along the countryside on a half-day tour, you will eventually make your way to the grandiose city that was once a part of the Lanna Kingdom. The traditions and beauty of Chiang Mai persist, making the city feel more like a charming town. Travel to the quaint resort of Mae Sa Craft Village where the optional activities are endless within the plush, natural landscape. Whether saa paper making or venturing into the jungle on an elephant trek, the choices are yours to make and are always fantastic. In the morning you will venture through the wondrous temples of the city, including Doi Suthep which looks out over the vast city and even vaster jungle. Later you will fly to the secluded town of Mae Hong Son and settling in at Fern Resort. The resort is surrounded by grand fields and spectacular forest offering you the best of Thailand’s wildlife, and even a journey to see the Padong women who are known for the brass rings that look to elongate their necks. Soon you will return to Chiang Mai and eventually onwards to home, but not before you have discovered the extraordinary secrets of northern Thailand.

Thailand Birthday Trip Review: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Cooking Classes, Tea Tour, Spa, 2 Weeks

The Zicasso travel team made my birthday "bucket-list" trip incredible! Every detail of my trip was expertly taken care of. All my scheduled tours were on time despite a little "liquid sunshine".

Our trip entailed visits to three areas in Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui). In each location, our tour guides were amazing!

In Bangkok, we were greeted and expertly ushered to the various incredible sights and activities by two guides. In Chiang Mai, we were greeted and introduced to the sights and history by another guide. Everyone was very knowledge and made each tour interesting and engaging,

We could not have asked for more on this incredible trip! Without a doubt, I will be seeing Thailand again in my very near future and with no other than the team from Zicasso's travel company! Thank you to our agent and his team.

Thailand Tour Review: Bangkok, Chiang Rai, Trekking, Cooking Class, Temples, Museum, 10-Day Trip

A huge shout-out to Zicasso's trip coordinator, who orchestrated this incredible trip for us. Each outing was better than the previous one; our guides were awesome, both fun and informative; the hotel selections were just what we wanted, intimate and special. And everything was scheduled like clockwork.

Despite epic rainfall (which led to flash flooding in areas of Chiang Rai and, in fact, prevented normal access to the Black House Museum), they carried on, delivering every bit of our planned itinerary on time and to a tee. This type A control freak (me) never felt the need to “manage” a thing, which speaks volumes about this tour operator's extraordinarily high level of organization, communication, and coordination.

Thank you to everyone involved. It was clearly a team effort. We are most grateful for the magical, once-in-a-lifetime experience you made possible for us.

Thailand Trip Review: Chiang Mai, Yi Peng Festival, Elephant Sanctuary, 2 Weeks

Unforgettable! It's hard for me to put into words how amazing this trip was. From our first visit with Zicasso’s travel specialist, he seemed to know us and tailored our trip to fit us perfectly. We have learned when taking these big trips that it's best to just follow the experts’ advice and suggestions, and the travel company did not disappoint.

One thing that was truly beyond exceptional was the Yi Peng Festival in Chiang Mai. This was not even something I knew of, but was suggested by the travel specialist since our days lined up while there. This was the most moving and emotional experience I've ever had in my life! Thank you so, so much.

Thailand Vacation Review: Temples, Chang Mai, Elephant Sanctuary, Islands, Floating Markets, Boat Ride, 1-Week Tour

We loved our trip to Thailand with our Zicasso agent, who provided expertise and details that fulfilled our goals. We had a short time period with a busy up-front schedule.  Thankfully, we could relax in sheer natural beauty at the end.

Highlights: Our Bangkok guide, who kept in touch throughout our trip, was a wonderful surprise, and is now a friend! He wore an unsung hero cape as he juggled changes seamlessly! Some major highlights that we loved were the temples, temples, temples, train market, floating market, canal boat ride, Chiang Mai's mountain village, and the elephant sanctuary – that was a beautiful experience we will never forget. And the speedboat island tour was fantastic!! Those were the major Zicasso highlights and we are happy to provide more details too.

Areas to change: Given this was our first Zicasso trip and we are now true fans (sharing with our friends), this one tweak is really for our family preferences. For us, it was hard to get back into the car once we hit the ocean. On our next Zicasso vacation, we know to ask how much driving will be involved in seeing the sites for awareness. We may have kept the same itinerary, it just would have been great to know ahead of time.

Thailand Graduation Vacation Review: Bangkok, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Elephant Sanctuary, Food Tour, Beaches, 10-Day Trip

We recently returned from a 10-day trip to Bangkok, Krabi, and Chiang Mai. The trip was expertly planned by Zicasso's travel designer and their team, and it was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we stepped out from the jetway, we were warmly greeted by one of the travel company's team members. We were taken care of from the point of arrival to the point of departure and everywhere in between. They planned an unforgettable vacation to celebrate our daughter's college graduation and she was "wowed" with the elephants, the food tour, the beach, and, most importantly, the people.

I wholeheartedly recommend this travel company to plan your next dream vacation. It was nothing short of amazing and we look forward to returning.
