The trip was absolutely amazing. This travel company did an incredible job setting up hotels, guides, drivers and experiences to last a lifetime. It was so stress free- all we had to do was ENJOY Portugal. And we certainly did just that- the country is beautiful and the people so kind and humble and proud of their country. We traveled from Porto to the southern Alentejo region. So we visited the large cities of Porto and Lisbon as well as many small villages in between. Our actives were centered around the culture, the food and wine, the people and the history of the region. Also, I was celebrating a birthday during our travels, and our travel agency made sure it was extra special and a beautiful memory. The planning process was easy and fun. They listened closely to everything I said we wanted or did not want. They had great ideas of things to do, that I would have never known about- if not for their travel expertise. The flexibility during the trip, when we stumbled onto a small village festival and wanted to enjoy some unplanned festivities - was great-Easy, No problem. I can’t say enough great things about the people we worked with to plan the trip and the people that took care of us during the trip.

It was a wonderful trip. We really enjoyed our outstanding tour guides. They were very knowledgeable, interesting, and fun. Our last guide was a favorite, but we have to mention our guide in Porto who gave a personalized and informed tour of the city, our guide in Coimbra, and our guide at the cork farm were also great.
Our travel company was flexible and accommodating when we asked for some changes once, we realized how taxing walking tours were on many hills and stairs. They arranged riding transportation for the next few tours.
All but one of the hotels was excellent. The Douro Valley hotel was not a 4-star hotel by any standards we know. Rooms are on tiers with many outdoor steps to any room (no lift). The restaurant looks like a big cafeteria and all meals are Buffett. The food was mediocre. It is located at the top of a mountain with no access to other restaurants. The service was below standard. We should have been informed clearly of the hotel change from the original proposal.
We were disappointed that we did not get our final Travel Book Itinerary until 2 days before we left for our trip. If it had come a week or so earlier, we might have been able to make a few adjustments.

Overall, our itinerary, meals, excursions, drivers, and tour guides in Portugal were top-notch. Our first two hotel accommodations in Porto and the Douro Valley did not meet our expectations. The first one was extremely small and poorly lit; the second one was very isolated and difficult to get around. After that, the hotels improved substantially.
All communication with our Zicasso travel agent was done by text or phone.
