Santiago – Bienvenidos

Touch down this morning in stunning Santiago, where you can climb mountains in the morning and enjoy a sunset over the Pacific in the evening. You’ll be transferred by private car from the airport to your centrally located four-star hotel, where you’ll feel the vibrancy and joie de vivre of this remarkable city.  Take a moment to drop off your luggage and recover from your overnight journey, and then prepare for an amazing introduction.

Your tour of Santiago begins at its civic center, the heart of soul of this metropolitan marvel: the Plaza de Armas. Here, you’ll take in the astounding Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago, a neoclassical masterpiece that dominates the eye with its elegance and grace. Visit the gorgeous Central Post Office building, whose façade gives off the inescapable luxury of the best-known cities of Europe. The Palacio de Real Audiencia is the former seat of the courts of justice. Continue on to La Moneda, where the Presidential Palace sits directly above the fascinating Centro Cultural Palacio de Moneda – one of the best places in the city to catch local artists and artisans plying their wares and honing their skills. Then, set out for Santa Lucia Hill, where the city was originally founded in the middle of the 16th century.

The tour ends with a stroll through some of the cities most unique and unforgettable districts. Bellavista offers a wide array of markets and fairs as well as a charmingly bohemian ambiance, while the residential neighborhoods of Vitacura, Las Condes, and Providencia showcase some of Santiago’s finest examples of architecture. In the evening, you’ll want to hit one of the city’s excellent jazz clubs – the Club de Jazz de Santiago is perhaps the city’s best, and it attracts some of the finest talents from around the world.

Argentina, Chile, Uruguay Travel Review: Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Montevideo, Santiago, Local Cuisine, Wine, Culture

We had the perfect trip, which lived up to the purpose of wine, food, and colonial culture. We covered lots of destinations in Buenos Aires, including La Boca, with outstanding steakhouses, tango shows, and a food and wine-tasting city tour. We also crossed Rio de la Plata to picturesque UNESCO-listed town Colonia del Sacramento.

We visited Montevideo and inviting wineries, then flew to Mendoza for the best Malbec wine tasting, with the spectacular snow-covered Andes as the backdrop. Then it was on to Santiago de Chile, with more visits to bodegas serving exceptional wines and food. We also toured the coast to visit another UNESCO city, Valparaiso, and adjacent Viña del Mar.

This was a trip of a lifetime. Zicasso’s agent organized it perfectly and was always available via WhatsApp for any questions.

Argentina & Chile Luxury Travel Review: Mendoza, Santiago, Ranch Experience, Culture, History, Traditional Dance, Andes Mountains
October 2022 Trip Review Santiago, Chile, Mendoza, Valle de Tupungato, and Buenos Aires, Argentina While searching for a trip and tour to South America, my husband and I came across Zicasso. We entered information on their website including; destination, dates and budget and soon were contacted by two Argentinean tour companies. Both supplied ideas for timeline and what to do. We were intrigued by the knowledge and ideas proposed by one in particular and decided to go with that one. Our chosen tour operator was absolutely fantastic. Hugh from MacDermott’s Argentina contacted us by video chat and asked fundamental and exploratory questions to create a bespoke trip for us. He then sent us a detailed itinerary that we could review and add/change anything that we felt we needed/wanted. He was informative, and provided valuable advice to our many questions and offered excellent ideas for our free days, including what to do see, do and where to eat. He also offered to make restaurant reservations for us. Our final itinerary was Santiago, Chile, then to Mendoza, Argentina and finally to Buenos Aires. Hugh listened to us and found the perfect experiences to match our wants while respecting the set budget. We wanted culture, wine tasting, history, a ranch experience, walkable areas and big city including Tango. Our ranch experience was a bucket list! We never would have found out about these experiences on our own. He even took the time to meet us in person in Buenos Aires and provided two excellent curated walking maps. The chosen hotels were absolutely fantastic. They were in desirable, easy to walk about areas, provided excellent breakfasts and other equally extraordinary amenities. Everything was beyond our expectations. We were absolutely thrilled by every experience of this trip and will definitely recommend the travel company and Zicasso. I was overwhelmed by the planning and booking this trip required and Zicasso laid that to rest and gave us the trip of a lifetime. Paul and Marlene D.

Argentina & Chile Vacation Review: Buenos Aires, Santiago, Mendoza Wine Tour, Dining & Tango, Horseback Riding, Iguazu Falls

The trip this tour company planned for us from Santiago, Chile, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, was one of the best travel experiences we have ever had.

Our tour planner tailored the trip to our desires. The accommodations were outstanding.  The private city tours were excellent--we were never kept waiting,  the arrangements were flawless. The tour planner himself met us at the airports for all of the flights and transported us, in the case of our flight home, from the local airport to the International airport, in a most timely manner. Our special experiences he arranged for us, i.e., horseback riding with a guacho, deluxe wine tour in Mendoza, tango dinner show and a unique Argentine asada dining experience another night were just what we were looking for.

Our most memorable excursion was a flight to and guided tour of the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls, a thrilling experience, not to be missed.

We highly recommend this tour company and would be happy to answer any questions about this exellent service from anyone considering a trip to South America.

Travel Review: Argentina & Brazil, Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Mendoza, Wine Tour, Biking, Chacras de Corio

Overall, it was a very good experience. Buenos Aires and Iguazu were great: hotels and tours. And all the tour guides very super nice and knowledgeable.

The wine tour in Mendoza was also great. Beautiful wineries and and very knowledgeable guide.

The hotel in Mendoza was not good though. The hotel was located in Chacras de Corio, a bit away from the city. The hotel itself is not in good shape, the room was dark, smelling after mold and the walls were so thin, you could hear every noise from neighboring rooms.

On one afternoon the reception was unable to call a taxi to the city for 1 1/2 hours!

In hindsight, I should have asked for a hotel in Mendoza.

Travel Review: South America Vacation, Chile & Argentina, Mendoza, Buenos Aires, Andes Mountains, Local Wine, Olive Oil Tasting

Everything was as advertised. The Chile city tours were lead by a very knowledgeable guide whose English was excellent and her restaurant selection was spot on . The bus trip over the Andes was spectacular.  The wineries visited in Mendoza were a great blend of boutique to large. Really enjoyed the wine tours, even the tasting of olive oil, because of the passion of the producers. The Buenos Aires city tour was especially enjoyable due to the perspective of the guide. The final evening enjoying the private dinner was fun because of the energy of the servers.

Argentina Trip Review: Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, El Calafate, Bariloche, Mendoza, Iguazu Falls, Wildlife, Glaciers, Wine Tasting
By my standards, our trip to Argentina was complicated. Through Zicasso’s travel agency, we visited six locations (Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, El Calafate, Bariloche, Mendoza, and Iguazú), involving six flights. Overall, the trip proceeded smoothly, with only a few minor problems. I was amazed by the efficiency of the airlines, and the tours and tour guides at each stop were top-notch.
