Day 1

Uluru – Welcome to Cultural Wonders

Arrive in the Red Centre ready to be inspired by the wonders of Uluru (Ayres Rock). The sand glows a vibrant red from oxidization that stretches across the depths of the valley. Experience the majesty of the Mutitjulu Waterhole where the orange sandstone surrounds the water and glistens like pastels in the sunlight. The scent of fresh water and barren earth fills the air. The water gently trickles from the earth offering life to the arid region. When the rains come the water careens down the smooth sandy stones and drips into the waterhole, making the rounded rocks look as if they are melting into the earth.

Your day continues with a visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Center where the legends of the region and the famous monolith are kept. The thatched roofed buildings sit beneath the hot sun surrounded by the red sand and desert brush. Uluru stands tall in the distance, the largest monolith in the Southern Hemisphere, glowing in the daylight. Enter the center and feel the deep hum of the didgeridoo echo around the room. The bright colors of the Rainbow Serpent slither around the room offering the creation myth of the serpent and the legend of Dream Time. The Cultural Center is operated by the local Aboriginal tribe in conjunction with the Australian Government to help ensure the lasting legacy of the people, the place, and its majesty. The sunset over Uluru brings with it a delicious glass of wine that will offer a taste of the colors of the setting sun wrapped up in the rich purple of the glass. The sun sinks behind the horizon and changes the bright red hue of Uluru to almost the same shade of the wine as the bright pink of the sky fades to night blue.

The sky is perfumed with the sweet scent of the sea and the rugged arid desert. Venture across parts of the perilous landscape of Australia and witness its sensational splendor. From the still waters of the northern billabongs to the rock art encircling the famous Uluru, your custom tailored journey through Australia’s Red Centre will bring you deep inside the wondrous culture until the past and the present surround you.

Your cultural adventure begins upon your arrival at Ayers Rock Airport where you will tour the base of Uluru (Ayers Rock) to see the magnificent magnitude of the monolith, along with the rock art hidden within the crevices. A visit to Mutitjulu Waterhole shows the sparkling water glistening from beneath the earth’s surface and rising for the refreshment of the local people and animals. Once inside the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Center you can follow the legend of the Rainbow Serpent around the history of the territory, its people, and the wonderful legends that come with antiquity. Watch the sunrise over Uluru and witness the spectacular colors of the sky reflect off of the famous monolith until the sun sits high in the sky and Uluru returns to its natural shade of bright red. Follow your guide through the majesty of Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, for the collection of large, round boulders that are said to resemble a group of earthen heads. Watch over the Valley of the Winds before arriving in Alice Springs.

In the morning you will follow your Aboriginal guide into the wonders of the desert that surround the Alice, where you will be shown the majesty of the Arrernte People, from their traditions to their survival techniques, along with a visit to the renowned Desert Park. After your visit with the indigenous animals of the Australian desert at Desert Park, you will make your way to the train station and climb aboard the luxurious Ghan Train that will take you north to Darwin.

Arrive in Darwin in the afternoon with the day at your leisure. Whether you wish to wander along the esplanade and sit beside the sparkling waters of the coast, or visit the World War II memorial museum, there are always wonders to see and a variety to take part in when visiting Darwin. The next day you will transfer to the secluded Kakadu National Park known for its wondrous natural landscapes and connection with the local Aboriginal tribes. Rock art fills the area, notably at Nourlangie Rock. Along the Yellow Water Billabong you will feel the warm, salty waters that drift in from the sea, where lily pads sit in the sun and birds spread their wings on the banks.

The next day you will stop in Ubirr to visit the rock art that connotes much of the local tribe’s connection to the land. Cruise along the East Alligator River to see the incredible strength of the local saltwater crocodile. With permission from the locals, follow your guide into the Arnhem Land to visit the Bowali Visitor Center and, possibly, enjoy a flight above the sensational landscape of the Arnehm Land Escarpment before returning to Darwin. Although this particular journey may eventually come to a finish your adventure doesn’t have to end. Luxury Australia Tour Review: Darwin, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Mildura, National Parks
I was hoping for a trip of a lifetime to Australia but was hugely disappointed. I had 16 confirmed tours that was "confirmed" and paid for months in advance. Traveling from Darwin to Kakadu NP to Alice springs, Ayers Rock ( Uluru) Melbourne, Mildura, Mungo NP, Adelaide, Flinders NP, then on to finish in Sydney with many tours "confirmed" along the entire journey. Right at 50% of the tours were cancelled within about 1hour of pick up time due to "lack of participation" or  "weather" though it was for the most part just a drizzle or had already stopped raining hours before!! Paid approx. $12,000.00 and this is just the cost inside Australia! AND got back a whopping $543.00 for all the cancellations. Missing half of the experiences!!! A miserable experience! Literally found myself having to run from some tours, motels or airports to make the jammed together itinerary only to find the next one was cancelled or not enough time allotted to even do the tour. The fair thing to do would be to refund 50% of the cost!!

Travel Review: Australia Vacation, Melbourne, Sydney, Hunter Valley, Port Douglas, Kangaroo Island, Darwin, Uluru, Great Ocean Road

Overall we give the trip and the company a B+.  Several of the tour descriptions were out of date and the companies giving the tour said they hadn't done such and such in years.  We never received a gift after our tour of the opera house.  The Hunter Valley tour was not a good value.  Lunch was at a wedding hall.  There was little to no explanations of the wine and we had an inferior buffet lunch .  .In Melbourne, the tramcar restaurant tour did not include the "very best" of Australian wines, our table was tiny, andthe food was mediocre.  Great Ocean Road was truly GREAT.  The boat tour was rather rough and not too relaxing.  On the Kangaroo Island tour, we never saw birds of prey as advertized.  In Ayers Rock, if we had followed our given plan, we would have completely missed being up close and personal with the Great Rock.  We changed our plan and the tour company was very accommodating. The train was neat however, the scenery was not exciting, totally repetitious, and we could have spent the money in a better way.  In Darwin, and our two days in Kakadu National Park, we enjoyed it all.  Port Douglas, the resort was terrific, the opposite of the hotel in Melbourne, a place you should not use until they do a total rennovation. We ate our best two meals in Port Douglas at two wonderful restaurants.

Travel Review: Luxury Australia Vacation, Cairns, Melbourne, Sydney, Port Douglas, Outback Safari, Great Barrier Reef Snorkeling

A am giving this travel company a 5 star rating - here's why.

I wanted to go to Australia to experience it as an adventure, NOT from a cabana as a lounge lizard numbed by boat drinks like other holidays we've taken. This travel agency made it so and exceed my every expectation.

Booking Experience

I used Zicasso and received responses for my 21 day trip that covered the Eastern portion of the Country South to North as well as the Australian Outback.  I discussed what I wanted with the agents and received two quotes for nearly identical itineraries.  Our travel agency's quote was a FULL 50% less than the competitor, needless to say I was happy and nervous at the same time.  I really researched the reviews and looked around other sources and from what I could see this company's rating was among the highest of all the competitors.   I was in constant communication with our agent, who was a native Aussie and in the end went with her as I felt she knew Australia much better than I could ever know it.

I WAS GLAD I DID!

The Trip

The experience was nothing short of Awesome from the moment we left LAX until we returned.  We had drivers waiting for us at every airport.  The hotels we stayed in where 4 star or better and were situated in the center of town so getting around by subway, trolley or walking was a breeze.   There was not one problem with check-in anywhere.  We really didn't have to pay any extra costs for the stuff we had pre-booked.

Every tour or excursion we took they picked us up where we were staying and were waiting for us.  We got VIP treatment at each; and I don't mean the service was VIP.  I mean we got extra rights and amenities such as special pictures, better food, and the best seats for things that offered more than one class.  Others where shelling out extra, but all that extra stuff was included.

In the end we definitely had the adventure of a life time.  From seeing Kangaroos in the wild (on the side of the road) to Koalas, ferry penguins, wild parrots just flying around camels, crocs and more.  We went on an Outback Safari and saw once in a life time sunrises at Uluru (Ayers Rock) where the sky filled with bright yellow and red to Kata Tjutu and Kings Canyon.  We saw wild Dingos, poisonous brown and taipan snakes and stars that filled the sky like I only ever saw in high-school science books.

We didn't rough it either.  One night in the middle of the Outback we were treated to an amazing  4 star dinner that started with kangaroo and crocodile horderves with fine champagne and wine.  A didgeridoo and aboriginal dance was provided for entertainment.  We were served filet minoin cooked to order, local vegetables, fish and chicken if you wanted it.  All served on open air tables with white table clothes and silver; simply amazing.  Afterward, we got the see the "Field of Lights".  [side note: I wish I did the Astronomy Event they had - people who did said it was amazing].

We also stayed in Port Douglas, an amazing up scale town in the North where we visited The Great Barrier Reef on a private island and saw sharks from the boat.  We snorkeled and saw incredible sea life and met so many very cool people.  We had access to two marine biologists who were on the trip with us and gave us tours and answered all our questions with passion.  The next day we got to go with a local Aboriginal guide, who was a real local.  I mean this guys and his family just drove up in their van and took us for a nature tour like they would for some relative they knew and wanted to show around.  It was not some commercial deal - it was really cool.  We even went to his house and had lunch.  He showed us all kinds of secluded places he hung out as a kid and took us to a beach where no one (other than us) could be seen for 10 miles North and South.  We walked out in the low tide and spear fished barefoot from the sand.  If you go you will love Port Douglas.

Besides the Outback we did the eastern cities, first Melbourne and lastly Sydney.  Both amazing places where we went wine tasting and surfing, drove to animal sanctuaries and art centers (I love street art).  If you go to Sydney you must see the "New Town" district.  It is an art community and very interesting as it is going through its gentrification and is loaded with very unique shops and restaurants; I would liken it to Echo Park in LA.  We did tour the Sydney Opera House which was cool, but the best thing was during the tour the guide mentioned that sometimes in the afternoon the promoters release the tickets they didn't give away.  As it so happened Josh Groban had 4 sold out shows that week.  I walked up to the box office and asked if they had any released tickets.  The lady said, you are in luck they just got released for tonight - long story short my wife and I sat 5th row center for box office price at a concert that had been sold out 9 months earlier.  If you can see a concert in the Sydney Opera House do it!  it is incredible.

There was a ton more things we did but I included some of the main ones.  I took over 2000 pictures and videos.  Be warned we often were up at 5:30 am each day and didn't get back until 8p at night lots of time, but we also had leisure days which we used to do our own thing.  My wife tracked our travels on her fitbit and we walked 5-12 miles a day.  But if I had to do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat.

All that said, that is why I Booked with this company and why I love our agent.

Travel Review: Solo Trip to Australia, Sydney, Port Douglas, Darwin, Great Barrier Reef Snorkeling, Kakadu National Park, Wildlife

This trip was really the trip of a lifetime - so far! The travel agency was extremely professional and helpful with planning a multi-city visit in Australia. I  went to Darwin (Outback) to the Reef in Port Douglas and then on to Sydney. The travel designer's suggestions in each city were dynamite and he listened to everything I was interested in doing. I will never forgot my journey into the red centre and Kakadu National Park. There were many firsts on my trip - first time snorkeling, first time in Australia, first time hiking - and this travel company made sure it would be an unforgettable trip.

As a solo traveler who normally plans everything herself, going on tours and having someone else plan my trip was a new experience also. While I missed some of the planning, the tours that were arranged for me were excellent and I got to meet a lot of new and interesting people along the way.

I did have a weather related issue in which I missed one of my connecting flights from LAX, which caused me to miss the first part of the trip. The travel designer was extremely attentive to my phone calls - even though he was actually on vacation -  and was able to arrange new flights without any issues . He also tried to answer any questions about how to receive a partial refund on what I missed. Even with missing the first two days - this was still the best trip I've ever taken.

This was a spectacular trip and I will definitely be using this travel company again.

Luxury Australia & New Zealand Trip Review, Sydney Opera House & Botanical Gardens, Queenstown Sky Trolley & Bird Sanctuary, Yacht
We were pleased with the accommodations and the flexibility. The flights there were seamless, Quantas is exceptional. Sadly the flights back were not. Personally, if I can avoid it, I’ll not fly United or Air New Zealand again. We also had difficulty getting into New Zealand as they haven’t worked out the kinks in their new visa program. The hotels were spot on and so convenient. The breakfast included made everything so much easier and less stressful in terms of finding a place and payment. The food, especially at Hamilton Island was amazing.  We were able to walk anywhere we needed so fewer cab/Uber fees. We did seem to do a lot of 5 star cuisine ( the food was nice but none of them were impressive or 5 star). By the end of our Australia leg we were pretty much over being on the water. The first yacht we did in Hamilton Island was amazing. Great staff, nice small group, excellent beach. The second one we did (cannot recall they name) was just to big a group, everything seemed impersonal and snorkeling was a pain because you kept literally running into other people. Sydney was great, and being in The Rocks is the way to go. We could walk most anywhere we wanted to go and if it was farther we were close to the ferries. Found a great little pizzaeria that had the best margarita pizza ever. Plus it was directly behind our hotel. I wish we would have had time to go to the big zoo and not just the smaller wildlife one, but I’m glad we made the choice we did. The Wildlife center, attached to the aquarium, only has native animals so that was cool. My biggest surprise was with Australian souvenirs nothing was made in Australia. Artwork was aboriginal but it was all outsourced. New Zealand was great as everything including manufacturing was from New Zealand. That, to me, is a real souvenir, not something made in Asia that says Australia. I can make something that says Australia, the whole point is to have something from there and contribute locally.
