Hunter Valley – Solitude in the Vineyards

The Hunter Valley is such an ideal landscape to greet you in Australia. Immediately, you can feel the travel fatigue fade away, and almost instantly, you can experience the space and freedom that Australia provides. While Sydney has a typical city bustle, there is nothing but tranquility when you travel just two hours on a private transfer. Vineyards cover the slopes in a carpet of green, which is set in vast contrast to the preconceptions of Australia’s vast, red desert. Your accommodation will be on a wine farm, and your room is standalone. From the deck, you can look over the Hunter Valley, inhale the bucolic country air, and toast to romance. Most international flights land in the morning, and you will reach the Hunter Valley by lunchtime. Nothing specific will be planned this afternoon as it will be hard to know how your body handles the jet lag. Relaxing in your private suite is an ideal way to unwind, and it is possible to arrange mountain biking and horseback riding should you have the desire.

Australia & Tasmania Tour: Sydney, Blue Mountains, Ayers Rock, Cairns, Great Barrier Reef, Winery Tour, Bonorong, Bruny Island

Our trip to Australia was a trip of a lifetime and it exceeded all our expectation thanks to our travel agent from the Australia tour company. Our agent worked with us tirelessly for months to customize a package to fit our needs and our budget. Our trip consisted of 10 airline flights, 8 shuttle transfers, 7 hotels and 10 tours. Every connection went like clockwork and problem free.  Each tour was well managed and professionally done. Every hotel was clean and comfortable with 100% satisfaction from us.  We were particularly happy with Tasmania in general and the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart.

Our 4 days in Sydney over New Years was fabulous and we loved the city.  The Hunter Valley Wine tour was great and we were sorry to miss the Blue Mountain tour but it did not fit.  Ayers Rock was enjoyable and we were glad to make it a brief stopover. Cairns was a beautiful location and we enjoyed our 3 days there doing Karanda and the Reef.  As mentioned Tasmania was super special.  We loved the Bruny Island cruise and the city of Hobart.  We drove our rental car to Swansea with stops at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (highly recommended) and historic Richmond.  After a visit to Freycinet National Park which was lovely, we drove to Launceston.

Our 3 days in Melbourne after our Princess cruise was also very special.  We enjoyed the city and the Travelodge Southbank hotel.  It had the perfect location next to the Eureka Tower, the riverwalk and the free tram for the city. We flew home on Australia Day which was a little disappointing but no one considered that before the trip..

Luxury Australia Honeymoon Review: Tasmania, Sydney, Hamilton Island, Cradle Mountain, Freycinet, Harbor Kayaking Tour

Our trip was was amazing!  We went to Tasmania (Cradle Mountain and Freycinet), Hamilton Island, and Sydney for 2 weeks (although 2 of those days were pure travel).

Tasmania was amazing.  We loved both Cradle and Freycinet...we wish we could have spent more time at both.  We understood that time was limited, however would recommend at least two nights at both which our travel agent did suggest.  Regardless, we were super pleased and would recommend Tasmania be highlighted more to travelers anywhere.  I really didn't know anything about it and got lucky.  More travelers need to know (on second thought, maybe let's keep it a secret) how pristine and special Tasmania is in Australia.  Maybe it was just me not knowing though.

Hamilton Island was awesome, but you are kind of "stuck" with their amenities.  With limited options for food that is less than $20 ASD a sandwich it was somewhat annoying but we understood you get what you pay for and so we just accepted it.  Having a few "beach" options to choose amongst would have been nice...also...you receive the same amenities (as far as I knew) at Reef View as the Beach Resort.  I'm glad I did NOT choose the Beach resort as the view of the ocean was much better and the short walk to the beach was a non-issue.  I would choose view over a walk across the street anytime but I get that that is hard to communicate.  Our travel agent did a good job of downplaying that or I may have chosen the Beach resort and been disappointed.  If you do choose Reef View then request a high floor...we were on the 17th floor and had the most amazing view (this may cost a little more...well worth it).  Overall, Hamilton Island was BEAUTIFUL and we loved the amenities, the hikes, getting a golf buggy, and seeing the sunset on One Tree Hill.  Such a treat...I even cried a little I was so overwhelmed with its beauty and the surroundings.

Sydney was expected...a big city.  The kayak tour under the Sydney Harbour Bridge was awesome.  I would definitely recommend it again.  The bridge climb...I wish I knew how scared I would be.  We didn't like that we couldn't cancel last minute without any refund...especially when it was rainy and windy.  We hated it...although, yes, the views were beautiful.  We would have accepted a penalty to cancel and wish we knew in advance that it wasn't refundable...make sure you do your research if you are on the fence.  Based on when we went (Twilight) it seemed like we could have booked and made our decisions last minute regardless of what they told us.  Finally, the Opera House should be promoted more...we wish we would have went.  We walked around it and were too late to book a show so ended up going to a very cool jazz club called The Basement around Circular Quay.  A fun unexpected concert that provided a unique experience to Sydney that felt local yet a great Saturday night out.

Overall, simply put...the trip was EPIC.

Travel Review: Luxury Australia Vacation, Melbourne, Sydney, Tasmania, Yarra & Hunter Valleys, Toronga Zoo, Wine Tours, Fine Dining

Our agent planned our fantastic trip to Australia with tours, dining and superb hotels.  We absolutely loved hotel in Tasmania and would highly recommend it.  The food, wine and staff were some of the best I have ever experienced.  The Yarra Valley wine tour was super fun and the lunch was one of the best on the entire trip.

In Sydney, the Toronga Zoo was amazing and we loved the bird show as well as "The Rocks" tour with a local guide. Eleven Bridge in Sydney was divine and the food was delicious.  The Hunter Valley wine tour was a blast and we loved our guide.  The restaurant in Hunter Valley was tied for the best meal of our trip.

Overall, the trip ran smoothly and we loved the sites, food & wine of Australia.  However, the people in this country are truly kind and very thoughtful.  We loved it!  Thanks so much!

Luxury Vacation Review: Australia, Margaret River, Ningaloo Coast, Kakadu National Park, Wineries
Our travel planner of this travel company helped me design the outline of my trip to Australia. For this trip, my husband and I wanted some time on our own and not a totally planned tour.  We decided to go to three areas in Australia - Margaret River, Ningaloo Reef and Darwin/Top End. Even though I could probably get some of the hotels at a discount on my own, I was convinced that the extra service provided was worth using this travel company. I was told that they would provide me information about each area, maps, suggestions for what to see etc for the places that we were on our own. This travel company works with a local company in Australia and I think that they are more used to working with clients where they plan the whole trip whether it is a private tour or in resorts where everything is covered. We were very disappointed with the lack of information and guidance. With other trips, our agent would also send recommended reading and other hints/tips. We had worked out a basic itinerary with our planner about 6 months before we left, and we did not get the final documents from the local agency until one week before we left. There was very little new information and the itinerary looked as if there was no thought, basically cut and paste. I do not think they (either company) spent much time focused on our itinerary.  Some examples: 1) I got information on sights for one morning where we had no time to see anything - traveling to Rottnett Island, 2) One of the few directions that we got was to Bamurru Plains, and they were wrong (I got the correct direction from the internet on my own), 3) no recommendations for restaurants anywhere 4) wrong times for ranger hikes in Kakadu National Park. The most disappointing error was supposed to be a highlight - an all day tour to Arnhemland with a visit Injalak Art Center to watch the artists paint. When I got the final itinerary, I was told that the place was closed on weekends, but we could go other places. However, when we went on the abbreviated tour, the art center is always closed on Sunday, but open on Saturday - since this was recommended as a highlight, the local agency should have made the effort to note the closed times (always closed on Sunday) and book us on Saturday (or at least told us of the alternatives). Our trip would have been disappointing or a last minute hassle, if I had not already spend MANY hours researching each place. Luckily, I researched where to go, alternatives, restaurants, wineries in the Margaret River area, places to see in Kakadu National Park, maps. Our trip was wonderful, but if I ended feeling as if I should have just planned the total  trip myself, without using an agency.Added comment:  Whenever I sent a specific note/question to our travel planner, he was very helpful. I still gave this travel company 3 stars since our planner (and I assume the local agency) knows Australia and has the experience to plan an excellent trip. We may not have been treated as a priority client since we did not have them book and plan every activity.

Travel Review: Sydney Tour
The Australia travel agency arranged flights, hotel in Sydney and tours in the Sydney area plus sorted the Australian Visas. Everything was well organized at the Sydney end regarding being met at the airport and all the tours. The hotel was well located and had an interesting history [built in Art Deco style as a department store]. The tour guides for our trips to the Hunter Wine Valley and Blue Mountain area were so impressive with their knowledge and professional attitude we learned so much. It was fabulous.

Luxury Australia Vacation Review: Brisbane, Fraser Island, Cairns, Sydney Opera House & Harbour Tour, Great Barrier Reef Snorkeling

Excellent, excellent service from our agent at this Australia travel company. Planning was smooth from the day we started working together. He answered all our questions honestly and we had total confidence in his obvious knowledge of the country we were to visit. Hotels were superb and in the best locations, tours and excursions were first class, on time, enjoyable with competent and pleasant providers. When one hotel was not up to our expectations, he acted promptly and upgraded us to a better hotel at our next destination at no extra charge. Caring and prompt attention before and throughout our vacation. Would not consider any other agency in the future.

Here is our rough itinerary:

We landed in Brisbane with no jet-lag at all. Stayed at the centrally located hotel.Visited Brisbane all day, Bus and boat tour of the city next day. Shuttle and ferry to Kingfisher Bay on Fraser Island for three days. Limo to Noosa Beach. Flight from Brisbane to Cairns in the North. Great Barrier Reef snorkelling adventure with helicopter ride back to Cairns. Visit to Kuranda via rail, Rainforesation army duck tour and Skyrail. Visit to Hartley's Crocodile zoo. Flight down to Sydney. Hotel was divine and well located. Harbour boat tour and Opera house Tour. Two shows at the Opera! Reptile zoo and wine tour in Hunter Valley. Ended with three days in Manly Beach where we took a surfing class.
