Salzburg – Luster of the Mountains

Salzburg is considered one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, set amongst the Salzburg Alps in view of Untersberg Mountain, which reaches a height of more than 6,000 feet above sea level. Old Town contains narrow medieval streets and courtyards wrapped in arcades, harkening back to the past of an aristocratic decadence. Your flight arrives at Salzburg Airport, where your private transfer greets you at baggage claim. Your hotel stands on the promenade of the Salzach River with a view of the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress.

The hotel’s opulence emanates from the regal décor and the history of servicing aristocrats, artists, and nobility since the 19th century. The water of the Salzach reflects the bridges and banks on the glassy surface. The river trickles past the hotel as your guide leads you on an introductory tour of the city, filled with spires and domes rising in imitation of the surrounding mountain peaks. Classical music drifts out of homes strewn alongside the cobblestone lanes. Residenzplatz, a large and historic square, stands in the heart of Old Town on the city’s left bank.

A marble Baroque fountain crafted in the 17th century crowns the center of the public square, reaching a height of nearly 50 feet. Dramatic horses rise out of the central pool beneath a figure of Atlas holding dishes. King Triton adorns the display with a conch shell in hand. Horse-drawn carriages glide down the avenues with the horse’s clopping hooves echoing against the stone homes and shops. The scent of marzipan emanates from the series of confectionaries. It feels as though you have stepped into a preserved picturesque fairytale.

Germany, Austria Vacation Review: Munich, Neuschwanstein Castle, Christmas Markets, Local Cuisine, Private Guides, 12-Day Trip

The planning and organization for our trip to Germany and Austria was expertly handled by Zicasso's travel partner. We could not have asked for a better trip.

We gathered our adult children and friends together to celebrate Christmas and New Year in the Old World. In and around Munich, we saw Neuschwanstein and many of the city's beautifully ornate churches. We also visited the Christmas markets and beer halls, and ate way to much fabulous German food.

Our agent contracted private guides in Munich and Salzburg. These guides were superior. They had detailed knowledge of the area, its history, and people.

We spent Christmas in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is a lovely, magical town in the shadow of Germany's highest mountain, Zugspitze. On Christmas Day, I took the cable car up the mountain and the sights from the top were tremendous. On the day we were there, we could see 230km in all directions. Of course, when in the Alps, you must ski, so we visited Hintertux for a day of skiing and glacier exploration.

Then we went to Salzburg to explore the sites of Mozart's birthplace, but there is so much more to the town than that. The town has over 1,000 years of history and the people there could not have been more hospitable.

From there, we went back to Munich to celebrate New Year at Tollwood.

Thank you, and a special thanks to our travel team for all the planning that went into the trip. It was pleasantly unforgettable. And I cannot forget our guides. The guides in Munich and Salzburg were excellent – extremely knowledgeable, personable, and always there when needed. I cannot wait to go back, and when I do, I will be planning our trip through your company.

France, Switzerland, Austria Trip Review: Christmas Markets, Jungfraujoch, Hiking, Ziplining, Dog Sledding, Classical Music, Horse-drawn Carriage Ride, 3 Weeks

Our three-week winter escapade to France, Switzerland, and Austria was nothing short of a magical journey through some of the most enchanting winter wonderlands Europe has to offer. From the romance of horse-drawn carriage rides to the charm of bustling Christmas markets, every moment was incredible.

France: A Parisian Winter Dream

We began our adventure in Paris, the City of Lights, which becomes even more captivating during the winter. The Eiffel Tower sparkled against the night sky and Paris offered a blend of elegance and festive cheer that set the perfect tone for the rest of our trip.

Another highlight was our visit to Colmar, a charming Alsace town that felt like stepping into a storybook. Its cobblestone streets, half-timbered houses, and magical Christmas market made it an unforgettable experience, with festive lights and holiday spirit around every corner.

Switzerland: A Snow-Capped Wonderland

Next, we ventured to Switzerland, where the true magic of winter revealed itself. The highlight was our trip to Jungfraujoch, the "Top of Europe." The journey up was as breathtaking as the destination itself, with panoramic views of snow-draped peaks and charming alpine villages. Once at Jungfraujoch, we were mesmerized by the endless expanse of snow and ice.

Equally unforgettable was our visit to First Mountain. The crisp air, thrilling walk, and ziplining added an adventurous touch. The view from the suspension bridge, with the mountains stretching endlessly into the horizon, was a sight that will forever be etched in our memories.

We also had the thrill of dog sledding near the Matterhorn. Gliding across snowy trails with a team of eager huskies was an exhilarating and unique way to experience the majestic mountain landscapes.

Austria: A Symphony of Tradition and Festivity

Our final stop was Austria, where the Christmas spirit was alive in every corner. The Vienna Christmas Market was a dream come true, with its illuminated stalls offering everything from handcrafted ornaments to mouthwatering strudels and mulled wine. Salzburg, with its Baroque architecture and snow-dusted rooftops, felt like stepping into a fairy tale. We also attended a classical music performance that added a touch of cultural richness to our holiday.

To top it off, we enjoyed a cozy, horse-drawn carriage ride through a picturesque Austrian village. Wrapped in warm blankets, we listened to the rhythmic clopping of hooves as we glided past snow-covered chalets and twinkling lights – a truly enchanting experience!

The entire trip was a seamless blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and festive joy. Each destination brought its own unique charm, leaving us with unforgettable memories of twinkling lights, snowy peaks, and the warm glow of holiday cheer. Winter in Europe is truly a season to behold and this journey was nothing short of spectacular.

Our Zicasso travel representative made sure every small detail was organized and even double-checked the drivers, tours, etc, in advance. This is the perfect travel company and we will surely use them again! Our agents communicated with us throughout the trip to ensure everything was flawless! Thank you for the most magical holiday ever! We shall cherish these memories forever.

Austria, Czechia Vacation Review: Vienna, Hallstatt, Salzburg, Prague, Glass Factory Private Tour, 7-Night Trip

Overall, the trip was great. Daily reminders for the next day's itinerary were great and it was easy to communicate with the help desk team, which was a plus.

It would have been good to know in advance if I were to have the same guide for multiple days. We didn’t find out until our first tour in Vienna that we’d have the same guides for three more days. Our guide talked negatively about going on a long day trip to Salzburg and Hallstatt with our four-year-old. I almost canceled that long day trip, but decided not to. Our guide and driver for that day were wonderful and he made our journey the most memorable.

Our guides and drivers in Prague were wonderful. We were just not thrilled with the local agency this travel company chose for us, given they knew we were traveling with our young daughter. If I have more choices for our future destination, I don’t think I’ll be working with them again. Thank you!

Austria Tour Review: Vienna, Wachau Valley, Innsbruck, Alps, Vienna City Tour, Opera, Hiking, Winery, 9 Nights

Austria was spectacular! It really blew us away and the trip and country as a whole exceeded our expectations.

In advance, setting up the itinerary with Zicasso's tour operator was seamless—they were very prompt to change details and move things around to give us the exact trip we had in mind. The interactive itinerary web pages they generated were great—we could look through the timeline and fill in comments with our thoughts/suggestions on each item, making for an easy back-and-forth.

We loved the pace and layout of our trip—it gave us enough time to relax and do some exploring of our own, while at the same time hitting all the highlights of each city we visited. The hotels chosen were exceptional and exactly what we were looking for. All of the guides and drivers chosen by the tour operator did a great job and we liked receiving the information of our guide/driver the night before, with a contact number and confirmation. Throughout the trip, the tour operator checked in multiple times and was readily available to assist with any problems or questions.

Highlights were the city tour in Vienna, seeing an opera in Vienna, Wachau Valley scenery (although in hindsight, we should have spent more time here!), Innsbruck town, and our favorite—a day hike in the Alps.

Switzerland, Italy Solo Vacation Review: Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Zermatt, Lake Como, Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Amalfi, Rome, Skydiving, Gondola Ride, Amalfi Coast Cruise, Scenery, Nature, Local Cuisine, 3 Weeks

My first solo trip was something I had dreamed about for years. I wanted it to be more than sightseeing. I wanted adventure, comfort, safety, and freedom without the stress of planning it all alone. Through Zicasso, I was connected to two specialists and Zicasso's travel consultant stood out immediately. She delivered an itinerary that gave me everything I asked for and more: maximum cities, maximum fun, and maximum value, all without compromise.

Before deciding, I researched and compared tours, packages, and individual prices online. The travel consultant’s proposal came out on top for value and content. While the other agent offered fewer cities and activities at a higher price, her plan was ambitious without being overwhelming. She booked my trains, arranged private transfers where needed, and selected boutique-style hotels that exceeded expectations. I was honestly surprised at how good they were. I stayed at hotels in Interlaken, Florence, and Sorrento. Each was clean, comfortable, and perfectly located for exploring. I had prepared myself for budget trade-offs, but instead, I found thoughtfully chosen hotels that balanced affordability with real quality.

Every document, train ticket, and activity confirmation was uploaded into the app. It became my lifeline throughout the trip, with every detail at my fingertips. The structure gave me confidence, while still leaving me free to explore.

Switzerland came first: Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, and Zermatt. Each city felt like stepping into a postcard. Interlaken gave me the adrenaline rush of skydiving, while Zermatt charmed me with its close-knit magic and alpine beauty. Italy unfolded with equal ease: Lake Como, Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Amalfi, and Rome. Every destination felt curated, yet natural, from gondola rides in Venice to boat tours on the Amalfi Coast.

What I loved most was the balance between structure and freedom. Pre-booked activities and restaurant reservations gave me a strong framework, but I could just as easily decide to spend an afternoon wandering Florence, eating gelato, or sitting in a piazza. The rhythm of the trip was perfect, structured enough to tick off bucket-list highlights, yet relaxed enough to feel like a real vacation.

Food was freestyle, but memorable. Highlights included a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant in Zurich with its elegant Japanese-Peruvian flavors, a different Japanese restaurant, a restaurant in Como with its modern fusion menu, an Indian restaurant for comforting classics, and international favorites like those in one of the restaurants in Rome. Between those meals and plenty of gelato and crepes, every stop added its own flavor to the journey.

As a solo traveler, safety mattered. I felt comfortable walking around in the evenings and was usually back in my hotel by 1am to stay rested for the next day. What really gave me peace of mind was the travel consultant’s constant support. Communication was fast and responsive. I never had to wait long for answers, whether through the app or email. There was a moment when I made a mistake with the trains and missed an activity. She immediately stepped in and worked to reschedule it or secure a refund that same day.

Earlier in the planning process, I also had a card issue due to an address error. Even though policy would not normally allow it, she and her team patiently waited until I received the refund before finalizing the booking, just weeks before my trip. That flexibility and care spoke volumes.

The difference was clear. She used my budget to its fullest potential, giving me more destinations, more experiences, and better hotels than the alternative option. She managed to combine the efficiency of a fully organized tour with the freedom of independent travel. Everything was planned, yet everything was still mine to shape.

This trip was everything I wanted: good food, beautiful views, safety, and absolute reliability. It was an organized journey with freestyle flexibility, which is exactly what solo travelers dream of. The travel consultant’s planning let me chase adventure while always knowing I had a safety net. Switzerland and Italy gave me memories I will never forget, but it was the behind-the-scenes planning that made it possible. If you want a trip that is your way, your budget, your pace, but without the endless hassle of managing it yourself, the travel consultant at this agency is the person who can make it happen. My first solo trip became my dream trip and that is the highest praise I can give.
