Lamanai – An Inspiring Jungle Journey
Cruising down New River is a thrilling introduction to Belize. You will touch down at Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport and then transfer north to where the road ends. A speedboat takes you further, past soaring ospreys and northern jacanas that flutter across the water. You will feel a sense of archaeological adventure, the boat taking you deep into mostly uncharted territory. Passing all manner of birdlife, you will travel to Lamanai National Park where a spacious wooden cabin hangs over a peaceful lagoon. This is deep into the Belizean rainforest, miles from any road. Check-in, check out the smells and embrace the feeling this small country can create.
Head out on a sunset cruise this evening, traveling at a slower speed that helps you get to know the birds a little better. The jacanas appear to walk on water, gray-necked wood rails are found along the banks, and the hawk you think you see is probably a snail kite. Cocktails are served as you watch the birds flutter, then after dinner back at the lodge, you will settle into the landscape’s atmosphere. It will be dark all around, but exotic sounds and smells keep you company, just as they would have done for the Mayas here three millennia ago.

Detailed Description
The remains of the Mayas can be found all across Central America, but no country presents them as evocatively as Belize. Most are still being excavated, almost all are hidden in the jungle, and none are spoilt by over-tourism. Raw and redolent, these old Maya sites provide an immersion in another world as one of the tombs and temples are guarded by monkey troops, a world where ceremonial centers are concealed by jungle shadows and inscribed stelae add new dimensions to the mystery. This civilization was so innovative and powerful that the two tallest buildings in Belize are found in abandoned Maya cities more than a millennia after they were built.
Your luxury tour will be guided by a Maya expert and handcrafted to incorporate the full sweep of excavations and ruins. There is Xunantunich, the surreal city shrouded in rainforest legend, and Lamanai, a city only accessible via a long river journey past crocodiles and ospreys. Explore the unknown with visits to Altun Ha and Cahal Pech, and journey deep into a mostly uncharted landscape for a day at Caracol, arguably the most striking of all the old cities. Take in the temples and stelae of Lubaantun, a ceremonial center with a style that is unique to southern Belize. You will explore seven distinctive sites over nine days and piece together a chronology that covers over 3,000 years. You can also discover the nuance that makes Belize’s Maya world very different to the rest of the region.
There will be surprises along the way, as this tour is not just about excavated temples and deciphering tomb inscriptions. A wildlife safari is part of the journey too as you get to explore Belize’s remote corners with most of the archaeological sites nestled in overgrown rainforest and nature reserves. Monkeys swing past, birdsong provides an evening lullaby, and you may find evocative paw prints somewhere along the trail. Perhaps best of all, most of the lodges are located in the jungle, so you will hear and smell the wild long into the night. Urban highlights include Garifuna culture with white beaches, cocktail cruising, and the surprises of Belize City. While Maya sites provide the focal point, these nine days reveal so much more about the country.
You will start with a spectacular journey up New River to Lamanai, a 3,500-year-old city deep in the jungle. Return to Belize City via Altun Ha the next day and get a keen sense of the archaeological excavation process. Explore cultural histories in the capital before returning to the rainforest and the Maya cities of Xunantunich and Cahal Pech. The next day, go even further off the beaten track by discovering Caracola via a rugged road that is closed to everyone without permits. Complete your in-depth tour in southern Belize at Punta Gorda, walking over a white Caribbean beach on route. It will be here that you encounter Garifuna culture, embrace the mystery of Nim Li Punit and Lubaantun, and complete the chronology of Belize’s Maya world.

The trip to Belize was absolutely fantastic! We had an amazing time exploring Barton Creek Cave, Caracol, and Big Rock Falls at our first resort at the Blancaneaux Lodge. I highly recommend paying the extra money to book a flight to San Ignacio, Maya Flats, and having the shorter drive of 45 min - 1 hour instead of the long drive from Belize City to Blancaneaux Lodge which is 2 1/2 hours. The drive from the airport to the resort was a very hard drive due to the road being so rocky and not what you want to do after travelling for 8 hours.
Our second stop was at Victoria House on Ambergris Caye, this place was absolutely amazing as well. The food was fantastic at Blancaneaux Lodge and Victoria House! The people of Belize are so friendly and helpful and did not make you feel unsafe at all.
Our travel agency helped us book a flight from San Ignacio to San Pedro and were very receptive to emails/calls while we were in Belize. They are absolutely fantastic to work with and I would love to work with them in the future!
Your overall comments on Zicasso
I found out about zicasso through a google search because I was very unhappy with a local travel agent in Raleigh. Zicasso service was very helpful with travel agents that know the area best that you are visiting!

Social Media Post Belize: 5 days in the rainforest & 6 on a small island. We highly recommend this trip to all our fellow travel friends & family. Relatively easy to get there…only a 2 hr flight from Houston Tx, Everyone speaks English, use American currency and extremely friendly and welcoming people.
A quick shoutout to Catarina from our travel agency who coordinated all of our bookings in addition to land, boat transfers and excursions. She put together a perfect itinerary mixed with just the right amount of relaxation vs adventure. The lodge near Belmopan & resort on Hatchet Caye. #atmcave #mayanruins #mayavillage #corntortillas #potterywheel #archaeological #xunantunich #scubadiving #cocktails #yoga #snorkling #ceviche #stargazing #sunsetchasingUsing a travel agency was amazing as it took all of the worry, hassle with research and no struggles with information overload. Catarina stayed in text contact with us the entire time and that was very comforting. Would not change a thing.

First, we want to say that our trip to Belize was exactly what we were hoping for! We reached out to Zicasso for help planning our honeymoon to Belize and were matched up with the travel agent at the travvel company. We had envisioned a beach honeymoon that included relaxing on the beach but also scuba diving multiple times during the week. We are also foodies and love to experience a countries cuisine via private dinners or cooking classes wherever we travel. Our agent heard all of our requests and brought it to life for us. It was a perfect combination of romantic and relaxing, while also being fun and adventurous at times. We spent 7 days total in Belize. The first portion was spent on a private island resort close to Dangriga. We could only utilize a boat to get on and off the island. We had one day of diving and the rest of the time was spent relaxing on the beach, drinking fruity drinks, and eating delicious food. The resort was very welcoming and accommodating. Our final night on the island included a private dinner with the head chef of the resort. That was certainly a highlight of the trip! This first leg of our trip was truly incredible and forced us to unwind and really detach ourselves from our hectic home lives and enjoy the moment in time that we had on this beautiful Caye. The second portion of the trip was spent on Ambergris Caye at another 5 star resort just outside of bustling San Pedro. We stayed in a beach front cabana. Having our front door open up to the sandy beach, with the ocean steps from our front door was breathtaking! The food and service at the resort were top notch and the diving excursions we had were something we will not ever forget. Throughout the trip the travel company was just an email or phone call away. They checked in on us throughout the vacation making sure everything was going smoothly. We constantly felt taken care of and that our happiness and satisfaction with our trip/experience were the most important thing to this travel agency. We cannot recommend the travel agent and her affiliates enough if you are planning a trip to Belize. Everything service related (both by the agency and the resorts) was impeccable and executed seamlessly and took any and all travel related stress away. When we go back to Belize we will be using the travel agency again! Thank you so much for the amazing honeymoon and the fantastic memories we created while in Belize.

Belize is a great country. It has beautiful jungles and Mayan ruins as well as awesome diving and snorkeling along the Barrier Reef. Our South American travel agency was prompt and answered all of our questions regarding our trip. We had a lot of questions regarding our one year old daughter and they answered all of them and got things organized so when we arrived at the resorts things were taken care of.
