Cape Town – Luxury in the Mother City

Table Mountain greets every Cape Town visitor as its smooth northern slopes rise for a kilometer above the city. Devil’s Peak rises to one side, while the evocatively shaped Lion’s Head stands on the other. Beneath the peaks are colorful city streets and the frothy waves of the Atlantic Ocean. It is hard to find another city that is similarly defined by the power of nature. The mountain and ocean backdrop pervade through Cape Town’s atmosphere, imbuing a relaxed rhythm that is vastly different to other cities of its size. Gaze up at Table Mountain, and you can feel the urge for adventure, but as your eyes shift to the coast, you will feel nothing but overwhelming tranquility.

You will be greeted at the airport by your private guide and transferred to the V & A Waterfront, a journey that will take you past the face of the mountain and then leave you in a suite that overlooks the harbor. The One & Only Cape Town is amongst South Africa’s most luxurious residences, a five-star hotel with views over both the mountain and the water. It’s set in a fully pedestrianized area, where fine dining restaurants and waterfront bars offer comfortable places to spend the evenings. It’s very safe to walk here throughout the day and the night, ensuring you can explore the local area in comfort.

After checking in, you will enjoy a welcome drink with your guide who will go through your Cape Town itinerary to assist with dinner recommendations and reservations, along with providing private transport throughout your stay. So you can go wherever you want to go at your leisure. For tonight, the guide will have booked you a table at Africa’s most celebrated fine dining establishment that is consistently in Restaurant magazine’s world’s top 20 restaurants. Your seven-course degustation menu with wine is a sublime introduction to the flavors and creativity of South Africa.

Detailed Description

Elephants swimming across the river, mountains standing over white beaches, penguins waddling and hippos wading are all scenes that will unfold in front of your eyes. Africa is a land of unparalleled natural wonder, a continent that redefines the boundaries of your imagination. Even in the city, it is nature that reigns as Table Mountain stands imperiously above Cape Town. Within an hour of the city, there are valleys carpeted in vineyards, desolate islands that narrate world history, and beaches where penguins and dolphins are the guardians. Head into the wilderness and nature seems to come from a fairytale. Elephants travel in the thousands, lions roar at sunrise, and hippos are constantly greeting you as the sun goes down. Such unrivaled nature creates adventure, even for the most timid of visitors, yet it also coats everything in a blanket of enchantment and tranquility.

This handcrafted tour combines two of Africa’s most exceptional destinations, both wonderful showcases of the continent’s incredible beauty. Your time will be spent with a mix of the city and the wild, part culture and part safari. Over nine days, you will explore all of the charms, from wine tasting in the Cape Winelands to boating past hippos, discovering lion pride to exploring 18th-century streets and waterfront enclaves. Despite all the angles to discover, this private tour will move at an indelibly relaxed pace. Nature compels and confounds, encouraging everything to run at a slow and welcoming rhythm.

Cape Town is a city of vibrant history and a colorful present, an urban landscape that is defined by the natural backdrop of Table Mountain, the views from which you will explore as you arrive in the city. Nelson Mandela spent 18 years on Robben Island, and a former inmate will be your guide on an afternoon tour after your hike up Table Mountain. The next day will be spent on an adventure on Cape Peninsula, a journey that will include beautiful bays and wild penguins. The next day, you will have your senses softly pummeled by the produce of the Cape Winelands with gourmet stops at four different vineyards. In keeping with your flexible itinerary, the next day is left free, and you will have a private driver-guide to escort you as you would like. Luxurious five-star accommodation is provided at the One & Only Cape Town in the pedestrianized V & A Waterfront area, which ensures that you are within quick reach of a number of exceptional restaurants.

Move on as you fly to Kasane via Johannesburg, arriving in time for a sumptuous lunch aboard the Zambezi Queen. This lavish houseboat has 14 designer suites with floor-to-ceiling windows for uninterrupted views into the wilderness. Exquisite gastronomy is served on the upper deck, and there are various leisurely areas for watching the world go by. Your time on the houseboat will be pure tranquility, but you are also in the heart of big-game Africa and alongside the world’s largest elephant population. A vast array of animals can be spotted from your suite, from hippos to impala to giraffe and elephants. As part of your cruise, you will regularly disembark and explore on smaller tender boats, getting closer and closer to the wildlife on exhilarating safari experiences. With the easy flight connections, and smooth transfers, an itinerary that combines a visit to Cape Town and the Chobe is an ideal way to see two very distinctive sides to Africa.

Review: Africa Safari, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Chobe National Park, Okavango Delta, Cape Town, Victoria Falls

Absolutely awesome experience – better than we imagined! We spent time in Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta and Cape Town. The service, guides, lodgings and experiences we had in each location were exceptional. This safari travel company and our travel planner made everything easy – we were greeted each step of the way, enabling us to enjoy our African adventure without the normal stress of traveling in another country. In Zimbabwe, we experienced majestic Victoria Falls both from the air and a guided tour through the park. We enjoyed a sunset dinner cruise on the Zambezi River. Our room at the Ilala Lodge was picture perfect and comfortable, plus we could see the mist rising from the falls. In Chobe National Park, we went on numerous game drives and boat tour with a dedicated guide. The Ngoma Safari Lodge was the most visually extravagant place we ever stayed.  The view walking into the lodge literally takes your breath away as you look down at the Chobe River with herds of zebras, giraffes and antelopes moving between a small watering hole close to Ngoma Lodge and the river. Combine that with great location to Chobe National Park, exceptional guides, thoughtful and well-trained staff, delicious dinners and wonderful rooms with incredible views and you have the perfect safari location. In the Okavango Delta we saw so much wildlife (inlcuding a numerous lions and African Wild dogs and their pups) and were again blessed with wonderful guides, great staff, and lovely rooms in an amazing location at Sable Alley in the Khwai Reserve. Cape Town gave us an opportunity to relax at the boutique hotel and enjoy winery tours and a peninsula tour, as well as amazing restaurants.

Originally, I tried to work out an itinerary myself using online review and travel books, but became concerned about arranging transportation and guides. Then I contacted several different travel agencies. This travel planner quickly responded. She made everything easy for us. She worked with us on locations, desired experiences, dates and cost. We really wanted to see Botswana’s Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta. Two other companies were trying to steer us away those areas due to cost and availability, but our travel planner was able to make it happen for us. She took care of absolutely everything from lodging, car and in-Africa air travel, tours, guides, and even restaurant reservations for us in Cape Town. Amazing personalized service.

This company makes you feel very pampered and special. Our travel planner made time to meet us in Victoria Falls (her home base). In honor of our 30th wedding anniversary, the travel company surprised us with a complimentary dinner and bottle of wine at our Victoria Falls hotel, which had one of the best restaurants in Victoria Falls.

Review: Africa Anniversary Safari, South Africa & Zimbabwe, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Boulders Beach, Table Mountain, Victoria Falls

About the trip, first thing I have to say is thank you very much for everything you did for Elle and I we had an amazing time.  The package you put together for us was so great there was not one day on the trip we were not amazed.   The trip to South Africa was everything we hoped be and much much more. South Africa, is my new favorite place in the world, Cape Town was wonderful including cape point, bolder beach, table mountain etc....  the drivers ilios tours were excellent and on time everytime.  Stellenbocsh was excellent and the wine tour was great and we carried several bottles from Stellenbosch throughout the rest of the trip and on the plane home. The resort was fantastic and great place to relax although we were out every day and night.  The spa service was great and we used every day Kapama private reserve was excellent and the rangers and staff could not have been better.  The photos we took are amazing, we saw all big five and more.  This place was so good in pairing up people the group we were with was great and had a great time and made new friends.   Thank you for the Champaign and the African song they sang for our anniversary could not have been better.  Victory Falls, Ilala Lodge was a great place, staff was excellent and seeing the falls was a dream come true.  The river cruise was amazing, and helicopter was the icing on the cake.   We also did elephant sanctuary tour and lion sanctuary tour as well that were booked through the Ilala Lodge. I guess by now you you figure out we had such a great time and cannot thank you enough for the great job you and our safari travel agency did for Elle and I.  You truly made a dream come true for both Elle and I.  Elle is already looking to go back again? There are a few people in my office waiting for me to get back tomorrow and give them the details on the trip and they maybe reaching out to you as well.   Thank you Alan & Elle

Review: Luxury Africa Family Safari, South Africa, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Kruger National Park

I like to think of myself as a low maintenance girl, but the truth is, I’m not. And that’s ok. Work hard play hard.  So when I, with my parents, husband and daughter decided to take the trip of a lifetime to South Africa, every detail was really important.  We knew we wanted a mix of a Safari vacation with a visit to Capetown.  For the Safari, all I had heard about was Kruger National park and then nothing else.  My entire view of SA was really what I knew through friends I met during their visits to the US. I found this travel agent on Zicasso and, although she didn’t have that many reviews, she beat out two other well-known companies because of her attention to detail, her exceptional hotel recommendations and her anticipation of what we might need.

For example, when looking for Safari lodges to stay at, she asked whether we were ok being in the malaria zone because my daughter is 10 and parents are older.  I had no idea the park was in the malaria zone and none of the other travel agents mentioned this to me! Instead, our agent found us a fantastic 5 star lodge in Welgevonden reserve (Mhondoro Game Lodge) where we had the absolute best guide and staff ever. She also booked us on a charter flight from Johannesburg to the reserve and back, and then the domestic flights from Johannesburg to Capetown and back (we had already booked the international flights on our own).  During our trip, our agent even went online and checked us in for our flights! She also arranged for executive meet and greet services for all our intra-country transfers which helped a ton.  Our travel agent also did an excellent job of booking all road transfers for us and every driver was at least 10 minutes early - we never had to wait - and super friendly and helpful.   She told all hotels, restaurants, etc. that I was gluten-free, she was always available via WhatsApp during our vacation and we even met her for lunch while out for a day tour of Stellenbosch & the winelands - so nice to put her pretty face to a name.

All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend this agent and this travel team for any travel in Southern Africa (in addition to S. Africa, I believe she also does Botswana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and some other southern African countries). This travel agent has set an extremely high standard and I wish I could just take her back home with me to organize the rest of my life!

Review: Africa Safari, Luxury 2-Week Trip to South Africa, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Wine & Food, Beer & Cheese Tasting

We were very pleased with the recommendations that we got from our travel specialist and Zicasso.  She took the time to speak with us about our trip objectives and traveling style and she did an excellent job matching dining, travel, and accommodations to our taste and budget!  We had some world class meals in SA (wine of course too) and one meal that our specialist urged us to try was Spectacular!  Kapama was lovely, very high end but if you are wanting to see a ton of animals, you'd probably be better served by another location.  The hotel in Cape Town was serviceable...what we expected given that we booked late at high season.  Our Stellenbosch hotel was nice.  A lot of families with young children there if that is what you are looking for.  However, watch your valuables carefully there for sure.  It is the one place we did not use the travel safe and we were robbed, of course.

Also, we did have a weird experience with our driver in Cape Town/Stellenbosch.  Although she was very knowledge about the area and generally pleasant, she essentially became another member of our travel party including eating meals with us and on our dime. We assumed that this was a cultural thing but learned after our trip that this was not typical.  Not only was this unexpected but given that she was our driver for 5 or so days, this became pretty intrusive and expensive.

Review: Luxury Africa Safari & Tour, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zulu Nyala Safari Lodge, Cape Town

The following is what we wrote to the travel agency directly:

I am writing this in lieu of the survey and hope that we cover the questions.  First of all, THANK YOU!!!  Our agent was wonderful and accomodating in reference to the scheduling and the itinerary.  She was charming and friendly and was quick to respond to my questions and requests.

Upon arrival, the woman from our tour company was nice, accomodating.

The Faircity Hotel was just what we ordered, easy and near to a couple of things.  Our guide from the tour company was nice and informative.  I highly recommend the Cradle of Humankind and wish we had spent a little longer there but we arrived too late.  We went to the Sterkfontein Caves and would not recommend it for people of our age although it was interesting.  (We're not really cave people anyway)  The Apartheid Museum was good but not outstanding.  We had done a lot of reading before the trip.

Next, we got our car and drove to Hazyview. Oh, we added a GPS in the rental.  We had brought our own but you should recommwend to people that they make sure that their GPS has South Africa in it.  I had checked it at home trying to find Johannesburg and our GPS found it so I assumed they had S Africa, but somebody later told me that there is a Jburg in the US that GPS pick up! The driving wasn't bad at all, in fact, very good and easy even for us Americans.  The Tanamera Lodge was out of this world--beautiful and well managed.  We drove up to Bourne's Pothole, etc, etc, which shouldn't be missed. We stopped for lunch in Graskop on the way, a cute little touristy town.

Our next leg was a long trip from there to Swaziland.  Uneventful and easy to get thru the borders. Since we stopped at other craft places on the way, we didn't make it in time to see the candles or glass.  The Mountain Inn accomodation was OK.  We had dinner there amongst throngs of tourists but the food was good.

Then on to St Lucia Amazulu Lodge.  We had been given a note at the Mountain Inn that the front office closes at 6 and we could call when we got there.  Problem is--no phone!!  Luckily, some other tourists were there and let us in and told us where to park the car--and therre was a night watchman who found the key for us (non-English speaking)  We walked around St Lucia which is a nice town and walked out to the estuary.

We next drove to Hluhluwe the Zulu Nyala Safari Game Lodge--very good experience.  The rental car was picked up the next day.

Our transfer to Durban went smoothly as did the transfer from the CT airport.  We stayed at the Underberg Guesthouse, which we would recommend highly.  Fortunately, our in country contact had discovered that I had booked one day short there and scrambled for us and found another guesthouse for the last night--Wergelen--terrific!!!!!!!!

CT: Robben Island (good), Greenmarket Sq--fun market and lots of cafes around; District 6 Museum, a little disappointing but we're glad we went, the V and A Waterfront for a nice lunch.  Oh, and the Red and Blue buses which are hop on hop off buses touring CT and environs.  Oh, our trip to Cape Point which had been arranged by the Underberg was wonderful and beautiful, stopping by several small towns.  The penguins were delightful!  (There was a major fire on the Cape for a couple of days, which was really sad but interesting watching the helicopters trying to put it out with seawater)

Our car was delivered to Wergelen.  And we decided that we had too much stuff for the remainder of the trip so Fiona, the owner of Welgelen helped us find a shipper for our suitcases which should arrive in the PHL airport soon.(!?)

The drive to Stellenbosch and Franshoek was wonderful.  The River Manor Boutique Hotel was a great find, easy walk into town, good breakfast, nice staff. We went to Oppie Dorp, good food and not expensive and to Ernie Eels  restaurnat, the Big Easy--again good food.  We drove thru Franshoek on the way to Hermanus since it had been recommended and the trip is FANTASTIC.  (I am glad we had gotten used to driving on the left side by then thru the mountains!)  We went to several wineries, including the one owned by Ernie Eels (beautiful views!!) and some others.

\Hermanus was  a cute town, touristy, good for one night.  Beautiful seaside.

\Oudtshoorn was very interesting as a one time deal.  Not a must but good for once.  The Mooiplaas GH was a good accomodation.  Not much to do in the town.

Driving to Plettenberg Bay was nice. Enrico's Restaurant is about 15 mins out of town and a really nice place, highly recommended for beauty and food.  By the water.  Also stopped for oysters in Knysna, asking at the tourist office where good oysters were. (Quay Four), an informal place on the water with great oysters.  Driving to Port Elizabeth was uneventful.  We arrived late at the No 5 Boutique Art Hotel and left very early for our flight, but the hotel was magnificent and we wished we had spent a couple of nights there.

Flight to Joburg and onto Maun were fine.  At that point Desert and Deltas Safaris took over and WOW--we were treated royally and it was so interesting and lots of fun and LOADS of pix.  I'm glad you chose the combination of venues thru DDS, water, Okinavango Delta, Moremi, Xugana.  We saw lots of animals and birds.  The weather was great (a little too dry for them) but good (and hot) for us.

Victoria Falls:  Transits went well and timely.  We booked the sunset cruise thru the tour company that picked us up in Kusane to V Falls.   We went to Zambia and Zimbabwe sides of the falls.(walking and taxi)  There's a competition between the countries as to which side is better.  We loved both.  Zimbabwe gave a better overview but Zambia felt intimate and more into the falls.  My camera shorted out in the falls in  Zimbabwe, our last day :((( but it had put in 6 weeks of great pix.

All in all, a TERRIFIC trip which we would recommend to anyone (who can afford it :(  )  We want our adult children to go someday.  Our travel agency did a wonderful job of making sure we were well taken care of and getting us to absolutely great places.

Thank you!!!!

Barbara and Loren C

Review: South Africa Father-Daughter Safari, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Sabi Sands, Kruger & Chobe National Parks

3 Destination Safari Trip to South Africa and Botswana...  all logistics, transfers, airlines, reservations, excursions went off without a hitch, every thing flowed seamlessly. Our safari travel company and particularly agent did an excellent job pre-planning and sculpting trip to meet our needs and desires.  We wanted 9 day safari to various locations that had different terrains and bio-diversity, but wanted to be efficient with "travel times" and "travel days" to make use of limited 9 days.

Firstly, Kruger area in SA, our agent guided us away from some lodges and tented sites "inside the park" as one becomes limited to "on road" safari versus if at contiguous private concession [whereby animals freely roam from Kruger park into and out of concession] the safari guides will (and always do) take their Land Cruisers off road and into the bush, for example to find a leopard laying in the bush protecting his kill (water buck)... which this siting would never happen "on road" in the park.  Our agent and this company pushed us to Sabi Sabi Little Bush Camp which was 5 stars and beyond all expectations; modern, clean, impeccable and beyond the call of duty service, and great guides (our guide was great and very knowledgeable). We saw the "magnificent 7" in the first 24 hours [the big 5 plus cheetah and wild dogs].

Secondly, we flew from Nelspruit to Livingston airport in Botswana, had driver take us from airport to river border, hand us off to a boat driver that took us across the river, then he handed us off to another driver that took us through the Botswana customs and then drove us to Kasane airport to meet a 3rd driver from Muchenje Lodge to drive us 50 minutes to the lodge.  All logistics worked perfectly (coordinated by our safari travel company). Muchenje Lodge was 4-star (not 5 star) because it is a bit aged [old bathroom, old toilet, old fixtures] but they make up for it in "safari lodge family atmosphere" and great management effort, buffet style family meals with other guests. Their safaris differed as we were limited to "on the road inside Chobe National Park) type safaris versus off-road. But abundance of hippos, elephants, giraffes here make it worth it.  Just on one afternoon track we saw 36 elephants (different sitings) and over 30 giraffes in just over 3 hours.

Thirdly, we wanted to try a different bio-diversity at Okavango Delta, so our travel company and our agent after much batting back and forth during the planning process, and planning for "bush flights" we selected Khwai Tented Bush Camp by African Bush Camps (they own many lodges and tented camps).  Five Stars, full amenities for a "tented site" very modern, and excellent first class cuisine, high teas, breakfasts and service. Our safari guide was great, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Lots of lions and leopards.

We departed by bush plane (coordinated by our travel company and agent) to Maun and then back to Cape Town.  The whole trip was planned impeccably, and went off without a hitch, the logistics of which I could have never have personally planned or procured by myself. I'm sure we paid a premium using first class travel agent, but it was worth it to just lay back and leave all the coordination to others.

Would we use this safari travel company again? Yes, I had this agent book us a subsequent trip from Cape Town to Victoria Falls for the weekend after this trip, and once again was first class and logistically efficient.
