Detailed Description

If you dream of Costa Rica, a series of classic images will come to mind, such as hiking through a jungle to a waterfall that tumbles into a volcanic crater or wandering along a quiet coastline before watching the sunset from a beachside suite. There may also be the image of exploring cloud forests on foot, on horseback, or along canopy bridges. You can imagine volcanos and rainforests along with crystal-clear pools and hot springs. All of these experiences can be found when you follow the popular tourist trail. If you venture off the beaten track, you can still enjoy these adventures, except they will not be interrupted by tourist crowds.

Even now, so much of Costa Rica remains under-explored and undeveloped. You can rappel into vast cave systems, ride horses along unexplored trails, boat around deserted coastlines, and immerse yourself in the jungle allure. The country’s infrastructure has improved tremendously in recent years, creating new destinations for locals and tourists. However, many of these destinations are not on standard itineraries, and it always seems a little more magical when you can explore without crowds. New airports and flight routes have expanded access to the country, so many of these undiscovered gems can be combined in just a private, one-week tour.

With seven nights in Costa Rica, this customizable tour will lead you to the country’s next big destinations before they gain popularity. After flying into Liberia, you will spend two nights at a hacienda near Rincon de la Vieja National Park. On one afternoon, you will trek along new trails to jungle waterfalls and azure lakes, where you bask in the seclusion and serenity. Day two will utilize horses and high wires to explore more of the national park before the depths of Terciopelo Cave become the highlight of day three. Epitomizing this week in Costa Rica, the cave system can create a wonderful sense of seclusion and undiscovered nature.

After your cave tour, you will be transferred to Montezuma for three nights on a Pacific peninsula. Day four will be all about the rainforest interior, and you will walk through the canopy and follow sounds to hidden waterfalls. You will then spend day five along the coast with kayaking, snorkeling, and some surprisingly deserted beaches. A new flight route connects nearby Tambor with Golfito, so on day six, you can fly to the Southern part of the country and take a boat to Playa Zancudo, which is a beachside village that is defined by thick jungle and local wildlife encounters. Two nights here will culminate your vacation, and you will fly out of Golfito to begin your journey back home.

Costa Rica Family Vacation Review: La Fortuna Volcano, Horseback Riding, Canyoneering, Whitewater Rafting, Ziplining, 10-Night Trip

We highly recommend this Zicasso travel partner. Our travel agent planned the perfect trip for our family – four adults and five kids. She listened, was flexible, and tailored the trip to our style. We are highly active. Having all the transfers and activities planned is the way to go. All you have to do is show up and the rest takes care of itself.

We flew into Liberia and our transfer took us to La Fortuna for three nights. We did the hanging bridges, a Lake Arenal boat/volcano tour, canyoneering/whitewater rafting, and ziplining. The canyoneering/whitewater was our favorite.

From there, we went to Rincón de la Vieja. Our agent booked us into family-friendly resorts. We only stayed two nights, but enjoyed a horseback ride to the waterfalls, the mud baths, thermal pools, and a massage.

We booked our own airbnb in Nosara, but our agent arranged the transfers, a private rental car, and added tour input. All around, fantastic service. The app provided for the itinerary was perfect, as was the incredibly responsive service while we were in the country. My brother's flight arrival flight was canceled and the service team was immediately in contact with him to rearrange his transfer to the hotel.   I would use this travel company again in a heartbeat.

Costa Rica Vacation Review: Arenal, Monteverde, Hiking, Bridge Walk, Plantation Tour, 8 Nights

Zicasso's travel agent did excellent job. There were limitations for our elderly father regarding hiking Arenal, doing the bridge walk and plantation tour, and navigating steep steps at the hotel in Monteverde. We may not have realized the extent of his physical limitation. Otherwise, the trip was well planned.

Costa Rica Trip Review: Private Driver, Culture, 9 Nights

We had an unbelievably great trip! Everything went smoothly, was already lined up by Zicasso's tour company, and communication was excellent. The private drivers between locations were excellent and very informative. We could not have asked for a better experience!

Costa Rica Family Tour Review: Tabacon, Manuel Antonio, Wildlife, Fishing, Horseback Riding, 1-Week Vacation

The trip was great. The hotels were particularly amazing and I have stayed at many hotels around the world. Tabacón was so unique, it could be my favorite part of the trip. My husband and son absolutely loved the resort and the gorgeous private beach (and monkeys).

All of the excursions were amazing, except one. The horseback riding was on such a unique and wide open trail, we felt like we were alone in paradise on horseback (and the boys both expected to hate it!). Except for the fishing, the guides on every single tour were truly incredible and enhanced every experience. I would think twice before recommending that particular fishing charter. They were barely friendly and very unhelpful.

Other than that, everything was perfect. Somehow, they even made the long ride from Arenal to Manuel Antonio pleasant. Zicasso's travel agent put together a wonderful experience.

Costa Rica Family Vacation Review: 8-Night Tour

We had a great vacation, including three generations of family members. There was something for everyone. The attention to detail was fabulous and any questions were quickly addressed. A purse with a passport was forgotten in a transport van and it was returned later that day! Thank you for your care and attention in a beautiful country. I would highly recommend Zicasso.
