Split – The Terracotta Charms of Dalmatia

Split will win you over from first glance as terracotta tiles slope towards the shimmering Adriatic. White stone facades shine in the sun to juxtapose with super yachts and a tree-lined promenade. The streets are narrow and confusing, yet they have a charm that keeps you exploring. Everything emanates from Diocletian’s Palace, a grand centerpiece that was once the center of the world in the early 4th century. Roman Emperor Diocletian built the palace as his place of leisure, utilizing the natural protection provided by mountains surrounding the bay. Centuries later, and the palace still stands surrounded by a city of old-world beauty. After a private airport transfer, the day is free for you to explore the city and orientate yourself with the Croatian experience. Detailed Description

Croatia feels like a summer vacation even in the height of winter. Exquisite landscapes set the scene with the cliff-lined coastline complemented by lush national parks and archipelagos. Passionate people create the mood and are always eager to share their local loves as they ply you with fresh olives and boutique wines. The weather plays its role as well, sunny for most of the year and often balmy after dark. But most of all, it is the inimitability that makes Croatia feel so special. Savor the sultry atmosphere as you explore the great variety of destinations on an adventure that is all about the different angles, and it will not take long before you are wholly seduced.

Primarily focused on the Adriatic coastline, this unique vacation begins in Split and ends in Dubrovnik. Your several nights in between are spent on Hvar and Korcula, an island hopping interlude to two several night city stays. There will be something different each day as you discover the sultry cities and their breathtaking surroundings. Perhaps most memorable is the diversity of experience. For example, in Split, you will spend a morning in the medieval town of Trogir, and then an afternoon spent sea kayaking around Diocletian’s Palace. In Dubrovnik, there will be a day spent cycling in the hills and a morning walking along the walls with a visit to the world’s first underwater winery.

The Adriatic coastline has something for everyone, and this 12-day tour will provide everything you could wish for. The first few days in Split also include Krka National Park, a day spent river rafting and zip lining, and a visit to the cobbled town of Sibenik. Days spent on Hvar Island will include wine tasting and a day trip through the Vis and Pakleni Islands to swim in hidden lagoons and dine where the fishermen eat. Korcula Island is dominated by green valleys and marble streets laden with history. By the end of the week, you will have arrived in Dubrovnik, Croatia’s most iconic coastal gem to ensure that you can experience all its charm at a laid-back pace.

Croatia Tour Review: Split, Hvar, Ston, Oyster Experience, Cooking Class, Snorkeling, Boat Ride, Hiking, Biking, Wine Tasting, Local Cuisine, 7 Nights

Zicasso's tour company is fantastic. They designed a perfect custom itinerary for us that included boating, hiking, biking, wine tasting, and much more. Our days were filled with interesting activities and meeting some of the most lovely people as our guides.

Though there were too many highlights to list them all, a few unexpected ones were a cooking class near Split that included shopping for fresh ingredients, snorkeling, lunching off a luxury boat near Hvar, and lunch at an oyster farm.

We had the most lovely guide in Dubrovnik who works for the tourist board and gave us the insider's guide to places in the old town. We even had an authentic meal, one that takes days to prepare, outside of Hvar. There is so much to love about Croatia. This tour company will help you find it.

Croatia Tour Review: Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split, Wine Tasting, Boat Ride, Krka National Park, 10 Nights

Overall, our trip was well planned and brought different views to Croatia with each destination we visited. The 3 destinations (Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split) provided us with a different view that allowed us to truly experience the country's culture and highlights.

Zicasso's travel agency had wonderful activities that allowed for a more personable experience. We particularly enjoyed the Karaka boat tour, Hvar wine tasting and island tour and Krka park tour. The tour guides were experienced, interactive, and knowledgeable.

Overall, it was easy to communicate our needs and questions. Would be easier to just use email instead of the portal.

Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro Tour Review: Venice, Lake Bled, Plitvice Lakes, Hvar, Mostar, Kotor, Dubrovnik, Scenery, 2-Week Trip

It was a fantastic two weeks in the Balkans! Zicasso's travel designer worked with us to organize a trip that met all of our expectations. One of our guides asked us what we would change and we couldn’t come up with one thing. The transportation, hotels, sites, and cities/towns visited, the wonderful drivers and guides… everything was wonderful!

We started with a couple of days in Venice and then met our driver/guide/adventure-seeking friend in Trieste. We had a great week exploring Slovenia and Croatia with our driver. Thank you, our driver, for answering our nonstop questions! We learned a lot about the area and really enjoyed our time together! Two nights of relaxation on the island of Hvar was perfect.

We spent a shorter amount of time in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, and really loved both places (Mostar and Kotor). Thank you to our guide for a lovely day! The time together is something we will always remember.

Our trip ended in beautiful Dubrovnik, with memories that will last forever. Thank you, this travel designer, for helping us organize a dream vacation!
