London is a city that dates back to Roman occupation. The history is rich, and the culture is vibrant. Famous novelists and playwrights frequented cozy atmospheres of local pubs still in existence. Goodwin’s Court hides passed small alley off of Martin’s Lane and dates back to the last decade of the 17th-century. When the family lands at Heathrow International Airport, your private transfer greets you at the baggage claim.

The kids are eager to see the likes of the famous city, which continues to draw visitors from around the world. The city surrounds you with captivating stone buildings. The aroma of freshly brewed tea lingers in the doorways of teahouses throughout the city. Through the windows, you can see people dining on cucumber sandwiches and scones spread with butter and jam. Review: European Vacation, Switzerland, Italy, France, Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome, Lucerne, Lauterbrunnen, Zurich, Tuscany

This summer, I traveled to Europe for the time with my Husband. This travel agent planned a wonderful trip for us and I must say that I am still in my vacation hangover! :) We visited Italy, Switzerland, and Paris.

Italy: I had THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE in Italy. We visited Venice, Florence, and Rome. Venice was indescribably romantic. Our hotel was hotel was located in the heart of the city so we covered the entire city by foot. We had a private tour guide and she was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

After two days of stay in Venice, we next traveled by train to Florence, the fashion capital of Italy. On the first day, our agent had planned a private city tour for us. Our private tour guide was amazing! She told us about the city, best places to buy leather and best gelato place in Florence. Our hotel was strategically located. It was just 0.3 miles from the train station so we literally reached in 5 mins to our hotel. The next day was group tour to Ufizzi gallery and that's where we did not have a good time. The tour company was nice but the tour guide was not all that great. We received differential treatment there. I was not feeling well that day so instead of asking how I am doing, the guide asked my husband if we are done with our tour. WOW! I don't know if it was because of our color, race, or nationality.

The next day we went to explore the wilderness, the cypress-lined vineyards of Tuscany. We visited a small medieval town and then headed to wine tasting. There, we spent hours in lingering over a meal in the open air, had one of the best meals of our lives as the fresh ingredients were picked up from the market that day and the hosts were as gracious as your own grandmother. We truly enjoyed the glace of Italian culture there. The trip to Chianti was the best part of our entire journey.

The next day we traveled to the sun-washed city of Rome. We had a beautiful time there too.

Then We flew to Zurich. Our room was amazing and had a breathtaking view of the lake Lucerne with the city line of Lucerne. After two nights in Lucene, we then traveled to Lauterbrunnen. As they say, Switzerland is "Heaven on Earth" we actually did witness that heaven in Lauterbrunnen. The view of the valley of 72 waterfalls was incredible. Our hotel was located near the train station and the had a spectacular view from our room. Unfortunately, the hotel did not have any help available. Even for a glass of hot water, we had to climb up and down 3 floors, which was disappointing. Plus restaurants were super expensive and the food was terrible.

Then we went to Paris. Paris was again unforgettable. Because of our travel agent, we got to see the Batille's day parade and the gorgeous view of Eiffel tower in fireworks! That experience was unforgettable.

Overall, the trip was amazing. Our agent did put together an amazing itinerary for us and we had a time of our life there.  Highly recommended!

Switzerland & Italy Trip Review: Swiss Alps, Lake Como, 10-Night Vacation
Overall our trip was a wonderful experience of the beautiful Swiss Alps as well as a few days in northern Italy. We saw 5 different locations during our trip to get a flavor of the different areas and maximize our time in Europe. This was an active trip that kept us pretty busy most days, which is what we preferred. The service provided by our travel agency was excellent as they were very responsive and made some in-vacation changes based on our needs as well as changes from the tour operators. The directions were specific and ensured that we did not have any major difficulties during our trip.

Italy & Switzerland Travel Review: Zurich, Milan, Stresa, Cinque Terre, Piedmont, Rapallo, Florence, Wine Tastings, 12-Night Tour
First of all I must say I booked at the last minute and Guilio's response and follow up was excellent, especially during a busy summer season in Italy. Overall a good trip but the following complaints from me.1.On the first day we got train tickets in Zurich to go to Milan but he did not tell us that what car we were in, as the train was going to decouple in a Swiss stop with the first nine cars going on to Milan and the rest of the train, the part we were in was going to other stops in Switzerland. We had to run with our luggage at the next stop about 10 cars and just made it on the train. It was very hot and we are not young, so we were pretty stressed and tired.2. Room in Stresa was full of ants, crawling over our luggage and in the bed and we had to transfer to the main hotel for the last 2 nights, but that room was excellent.3. The first wine tasting in Piedmont was a ripoff and I suggest you do not use this winery for any of your future guests. The Sordo wine tasting was only 3 wines and they were all so young they tasted very poorly. If you are going to taste and want to buy Barolo you taste 2018-2020 vintages. These wines are good for 20-25 years so we both felt we got a very cheap tour with poor tasting, although our Sordo guide was very nice. On our second wine tour in Florence I cancelled the second wine visit as I wanted to tase more Brunello and noticed that both wineries, were identical, all Chianti so I asked the driver to take us to another place that had more Brunello.4. When in Rapallo, Guilio had a driver pick us up from the hotel and take us to the next town to begin our tour in Cinque Terre. After the tour the driver drove us back to our hotel from this town. We paid for a full day driver when we could have taken a taxi to the train station, (25 Euro) and taken the train to town where the driver dropped us off. (50 minutes by train vs 45 minutes by car). This was totally an unnecessary expense and I am upset by this.5. Lastly in Florence there was a strike at the Uffizi and we could not do our tour. Not Guilio's fault as this is uncontrollable, but we had a free day on Monday. I called Guilio's number and was told that we could not get a ticket to the Uffizi until 4:30pm that day when we had a 6:50pm flight to Zurich. I went to the ticket office and bought my own ticket for an 11:00 am time slot which was available. I would like my refund for our original tickets.

Spain, France, Switzerland & Italy Luxury Driving Tour Review: Cadaques, Jungfrau, Barcelona, Avignon, Interlaken, Local Cuisine
Our driving trip through Spain, France, Switzerland and Italy went without a hitch.  The route was well planned and for the most part the accommodations were lovely.Cadaques Spain was a wonderful addition, and certainly worth the switchback drive up and down the mountain.I would not recommend Beziers, France as a stop off. The town has much history, but little worth seeing.  Same with Interlaken, Switzerland.  The Jungfrau was a nice day trip, but the town is too touristy.Milan was a wonderful stop for us, but our hotel was subpar and not conveniently located. We love Zicasso and will continue to use them for planning our trips.

Travel Review: Italy Vacation, Rome, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Positano, Amalfi Coast, Honey & Wine Tasting, Cooking Lesson

Overall, the tour planned for us was incredible in scope. We appreciate how much coordination goes into planning stays at five locations for five people (two couples and a single) over a 14-day period. One of the advantages to having a professional handle the logistics of such a journey is foreknowledge of the available lodgings, and this was certainly evident here. Each hotel, in our opinion, was unique in its own way and representative of each particular locale, especially  from the ornate rooms in Venice, to the rustic charm of the farmhouse in Tuscany, to the mountainside accomodations in Positano; each was outstanding. We also appreciated the manner in which our travel agency provided us with important phone numbers, pictures of guides, dining recommendations and other valuable information.

Most impressive, I think we all agreed, was the transportation between destinations. The rides were comfortable, and the drivers were courteous and knowledgeable; I do not believe we would have been able to arrange this part of the trip as well as it was handled by this travel agency. (A special shout-out goes to our Venice to Florence driver who arranged an impromptu visit to a balsamic vinegar farm while we were en route!)

Our travel agency's choice of guides was equally laudable; each was accommodating and knowledgeable. They expedited our entries into the various attractions, allowed us to go at our own pace to a great degree, gave us some excellent restaurant suggestions, and basically made us feel special. In retrospect, I feel that we should have not scheduled as many tours as we did and left more time for independent exploration, but that certainly was not the fault of this company; we were the ones who drove the schedule. That being said, the golf cart tour of Rome seemed like a good idea at the start, but I don’t think it was what we expected; we found many of the destinations uninteresting and mostly forgettable. We found what we felt would have been better places to visit just from walking around Rome on our own.

The one big negative of the entire trip was our final stop in Positano. We had required, and were given, three rooms at all of our other locations, but for some reason, the travel agency originally booked only two rooms for us in Positano, meaning that our single traveler would have to bunk with one of the couples for three nights in a one bed, one bath room. We only found out about this arrangement a month before our trip, and would not have even known about it if one of our party didn’t notice it on her own. Our travel agency's solution was to house the single traveler in a separate hotel for two nights and then with one of our couples for the final night…inconvenient, but doable. However, upon reaching Positano, we found an error in the reservation (the wrong dates were reserved…how does this happen?) and ended up with one room for four people. At this point, we were unable to reach any a company representative; the problem was eventually solved by the hotel manager at the hotel, but it involved us staying in three separate (and not co-located) hotels for one night, two separate locations for the second night, and finally all of us in a villa the last night. The villa was probably our favorite lodging, and things worked out in the end, but unfortunately, this was no thanks to our travel agency.

This is really a shame because this trip was so well-planned, and yet, the freshest memory we have of it was this last situation. Many times we were amazed how our travel agency found all of the people and places, such as the Chef’s Dinner in Florence and the honey and wine tasting in Tuscany, that made this a once in a lifetime experience. We expected there to be missteps along the way in an undertaking of this size, but it seems like that whole Positano debacle could have been avoided if the correct reservations were made at the outset when we all agreed upon them.

Travel Review: Memorable Vacation to Italy, Florence, Tuscany, Siena, Antinori Winery Tour, Rome, Vatican Tour
Giuliana of this Italy travel company guided us every step of the way and created one of our most memorable vacations. The most impressive thing at the outset was how quickly she responded to our initial inquiry. We had never been to Italy, had not done a great deal of research, and had only a general idea of what we wanted beyond the dates (mid-May) and the cities we wanted to visit (Florence and Rome). Within a day, Giuliana submitted a detailed proposed itinerary based on a recent client request similar to ours. The proposal included various options that provided a great starting point for further discussion. She asked many questions, including our hotel preferences (small boutique, high-rise, how many stars, etc.) and suggested a number of venues that would expose us to Italy’s remarkable history and culture. The result was a vacation specifically suited to our personal tastes and interests. We spent four days in Florence and three in Rome. In Florence, we stayed at the Hotel Lungarno on the Arno River, a lovely small hotel in the heart of the city within walking distance to everything of interest, including the Uffizi and Academy museums, and the famous Duomo. It rained two nights, but we didn’t have far to go for a great dinner. The hotel restaurant was superb. One of the highlights of the Florence leg of the trip was a day tour of the Tuscany wine region that included a stopover in the historic town of Siena. We had lunch at the Osteria di Passignano, a restaurant at the Antinori vineyards where we were treated to a four course lunch and wine tasting and a tour of the winery. Fabulous. In Rome, we stayed at the Hotel Saint George. Another small, well appointed, boutique hotel, centrally located near the Tiber River, it provided access to all the essential venues, including the Vatican, Coliseum, Spanish Steps, etc. As in Florence, everything was in walking distance, including fine dining restaurants, pizzerias, espresso bars, and gelateria—and lots of places to shop. The hotel was comfortable, attractive, with a friendly and efficient staff, but we would not recommend the hotel restaurant. It was nice enough (although too brightly lit) but was virtually empty the night we were there and the food was just O.K. That wasn’t Giuliana’s fault since the hotel restaurant was not on her recommended list. We were just tired (it was our first night) and thought we’d give it a try. The hotel concierge made up for it, however, by recommending two great nearby restaurants for the remaining two nights. Neither was on Guiliana’s list, but they were terrific. A word about the logistical aspects of the trip: we viewed this as critical to the success of a customized tour with multiple venues and connections. We couldn’t have been more pleased. On arriving at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, we were greeted by Aldo who drove us to the high-speed train to Florence. After sharing an espresso with us in the station café, he made sure we got on the right train, helped us with our bags, and took us to our seats. Similar service greeted us at every connection point during the trip. Our personal tour guides, Enza (Florence), Andrea (Tuscany), and Sylvia (Rome), were exceptionally knowledgeable, personable, and fluent in English. Giuliana telephoned us at several points during the trip to confirm that we had arrived at our destination, that the drivers were on time, and that the accommodations met our expectations. Very reassuring to know she was keeping such close tabs on things. In short, all elements of transportation and personal service were impeccable. Would we visit Italy again? Without doubt. The trip simply whetted our appetites. Would we use this company? We wouldn’t consider any other service. Next time, however, we’ll make more of an effort to visit the restaurants recommended by Giuliana.
