London – Landing in London

London is a city that has captivated the imaginations of locals and visitors from around the world. The city brims with vibrant life at all times of day, from the teahouses to nightlife, parks to the river-walk along the cobble-paved banks of the River Thames. Castle towers and church spires create the historic skyline blending with the chic skyscrapers of the 20th and 21st-centuries. The exposed wooden beams of historic pubs harken back to the day Charles Dickens sat by the fire at The George Inn.

Haberdashers have small stores opening out to the cobblestone streets, almost hidden in a small alleyway. The designer allure of Harrods brims with polished tile and a contemporary style. When you arrive at the airport, your private transfer is waiting, ready to escort you to your hotel situated in the heart of the city. At the quarter hour, you can hear Big Ben chime along the River Thames, the Elizabeth Tower casting a shadow over the House of Parliament with neo-gothic design.

England Review: Multi-Generational Family Vacation, Stonehenge, Buckingham Palace, Cotswolds, Shakespeare, Oxford, Local Farm

Our trip to England was fantastic!  We traveled with my parents and my two teenaged boys. We only had 10 days for the trip, so we decided to keep our destinations relatively close together.  Our travel planner did a great job of listening to our must do items and weaving together an itinerary that hit everything without exhausting us.  They were very prompt in responding to any questions or changes and we were never left hanging.

We visited London, Stonehenge, The Cotswolds, Stratford, and Oxford.  During our four days in London, we went to Westminster Abbey, the Churchill War Rooms, Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Gardens, and The British Museum.  We saw two shows in London, one at the Globe and another right by Piccadilly Circus.  From there, we went to Hampton Court, Stonehenge, spent the night at a Castle in South Gloucestershire, took a tour of The Cotswolds, took in all things Shakespeare in Stratford, visited Blenheim Palace, Windsor Castle and had an owl evening at a falconry center where we got to handle and 'fly' several owls.  The trip was a perfect mix of city and country without having to drive hours on end.

The travel planner sent us a binder a couple weeks out from the trip with each day mapped out with our itinerary for the day, then any tickets or directions we would need for that day.  It was extremely organized and made everything very easy to keep track of.  They had suggestions for activities and places to eat, which were very helpful.

The trip was wonderful and everyone in the family loved it!

Review: England Vacation, London, Bath, Oxford, Dover Cliffs, Stonehenge, Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, Jane Austen Tour

This travel agency planned an excellent London, Bath, and multiple side-trip vacation for me and my family. The logistics were well-designed and executed. The tour guides were well above average, and the hotel choices in London and Bath were perfect.

We spent five nights in London, three nights in Bath, and our final night in Oxford.

Our side-trips from London included a day visiting sites related to the life of Jane Austen (Steventon, Chawton, Winchester, and Lacock) and day traveling south to visit Leeds castle in Kent, the Canterbury Cathedral, and the Dover Cliffs.

Our final day side trip took us from Bath, through Bradford-on-Avon, to Stonehenge, Highclere Castle, and then ending the day in Oxford.

Review: England Vacation, London, Bath, Thornbury, Cotswolds, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, Churchill War Rooms

Overall, this travel company provided a fantastic traveling experience. We were able to enjoy many of the iconic attractions in London, including the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Churchill War Rooms, and the Tower of London, as well as explore on our own. We also enjoyed afternoon tea and wonderful play in the West End! In addition, they provided some wonderful dining recommendations that turned out to be a few of our favorite meals!

Beyond London, we were able to explore numerous towns and villages in the southern England, including Thornbury, Cheddar, Bath, the Cotswolds, Winchester, and Windsor.

Luxury UK Trip Review: England & Scotland, Seaham Beach Sea Glass, Hiking Isle of the Skye & Cotswold, Edinburgh, Blooming Heather
Our trip to the UK was slightly complicated and involved a lot of physical traveling between both Scotland and England. I worked with a trip planner from start to finish and although there were a few hiccups along the way, our overall experience was wonderful. We traveled from Washington, DC to London. From there we went to Edinburgh, Inverness, The Isle of Skye, Glasgow, Seaham, and the Cotswolds. And, the first week we traveled with another couple. Our planner had a lot of planning to do which involved a lot of moving pieces. He did an excellent job. Along the way, we took a train, had drivers, and also drove ourselves with a rental car for several days. At each stop, our reservations, drivers and activities were all carefully organized. The only exception was our rental car reservation. When we got to Inverness, the rental car place had given our car away, because they had the wrong information and thought we were picking it up at 9:00 am instead of 5pm, which would have been impossible because we were driving from Edinburgh that day and didn't leave until 10:00am. The problem came when the rental car place told us they had NO cars for us and would not have one the next day either. Fortunately, we had an awesome guide/driver who handled the entire situation with professionalism. He ended up staying with us until he had secured a car for us from another car rental agency for the next morning. Our guide/driver took care of everything allowing us to stay stress-free:) My husband and his brother were playing golf the next day and needed the car to get to the course, so our guide/driver arranged for a prepaid cab to pick them up to take them to the car rental agency. The guide/driver really went above and beyond what he was hired to do and should receive kudos for turning a potentially big problem into barely an inconvenience. Also, the car we ended up receiving was a lovely Mercedes upgrade from our original car hire. Our driver/guide was also an excellent guide in Edinburg and full of information about Scotland and that city in particular. He was fun, easy to talk with and full of ideas. He heard we loved Outlander, the series, so made it a point to stop at many of the places where Outlander was filmed!  We also had a one day guide in London. She was wonderful, and full of information about the history of England, especially London. Our driver from Seaham to the Cotswolds and he, too, was a wealth of information (former teacher) and was very interesting to talk to. The drivers and guides really helped to enhance the overall experience of being in another country. We stayed in a variety of hotels, all with their own uniqueness. Our favorite was probably the hotel on the north coast of England. This hotel also had a spa with great facilities. The people were amazingly nice and accommodating. Our room was absolutely beautiful and large. We are sea glass collectors and Seaham Beach is known for its treasures from the sea, because of glass factories that used to operate in the area a long time ago. We found lots of sea glass so Seaham did not disappoint. The Isle of Skye in Scotland and the Cotswolds in England were our two favorite places . . . of course they were the farthest apart from one another .  . . Skye is an island in the upper west corner of Scotland and the Cotswolds are about 2 hours west of London. In two weeks, we traveled many, many miles, but we really wanted to get a feel for both countries.  To do a trip like this on our own would have been very difficult. Using Zicasso and this tour company made our two weeks so easy! The issues we had along the way were all made right by the travel partners involved without question. In fact, one of the most impressive things that happened, was when we got to the last three days of our trip . . . by the time we arrived in the Cotswolds we were tired of touring and traveling from place to place. I called our planner to tell him we wanted to cancel our trip to Bath and Stonehenge.  . . all we wanted to do was hike. All of the time it took to travel from place to place had taken away time we had to hike and explore. He was able to get us a full refund for money spent on that final tour to Bath and Stonehenge, and that was greatly appreciated:)Once we returned, the planner called to go over everything about our trip and to ask for constructive feedback on how things could have been better. We talked for over an hour and in my opinion, his concern and attention to detail is what makes this company so successful. We are looking forward to working with him again to plan a trip that concentrates more on hiking and revisiting the places we fell in love with. We also want to include Wales next time and he has already sent some suggestions.

Luxury Scotland & England Vacation Review: London, Cotswolds, York, Isle of Skye, Edinburgh, Lochs, Castles, Scottish Highlands
Our party of 4 just returned from our 2 week tour of England. London was our first destination. It was great from the start. We had a private driver and tour guides the whole time. Angela was our guide for England and Jeffrey was our guide in Scotland. Both were awesome and took exceptional care of us. We drove about 1000 miles from London up through the Cotswolds, York and then into Scotland, and all the way up to the Isle of Skye and the Lochs. We ended our trip in Edinburgh. Everything was customized to our particular interests and just wonderful. We stayed in castles along the way for the full on Downton Abbey experience and visited some sites from the Outlander movies. I would be hard pressed to say what my favorite things were, since everywhere we went was amazing. We did love our nights at the castles. The Castle near Chester-le-Street, the Castle near Girvan and the Castle near Fort William were magical. It was a vacation of a life time. I can't say enough about our guide Jeffrey in Scotland. I've never seen anyone more bent on pleasing his guests. All we had to do was mention a place or stop or whatever and he'd make it happen. A more knowledgeable and purely nice person you'll never meet.I hope to get another chance to tour with Jeffrey and this travel company. We're already thinking about next year.

England & Scotland Luxury Vacation Review: Dartmouth, Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Edinburgh Whisky Experience, Plymouth, St. Ives
By every measure the trip was superb. The travel company is an outstanding travel agent.  The trip was 23 days long, very complex, exquisitely planned to meet our goals, and executed flawlessly.  In particular, we wanted to visit disparate places in England and Scotland that we had not previously seen.  This involved staying at eight hotels, having three knowledgeable and enjoyable guides for multiple days as well as several drivers to ferry us to and from various locations since we chose not to drive ourselves. In broad terms, we visited Cornwall, the Cotswolds, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Bletchley Park, the Peak District, York and Edinburgh.  The specific list of places, sites, institutions and activities was comprehensive, adhering to a daily schedule while allowing us quite adequate time to explore on our own.  The travel company selected numerous places to visit of which we had been unaware but were very pleased to see.The company was impressively attendant to the details of our trip including tickets to all locations, specific instructions for train travel, sorting out our clothes cleaning needs, and even finding a solution to our need for Covid testing while on a very tight schedule.I heartily recommend the travel company.
