London – Iconic Introductions in the Capital

All English roads lead to London, and the capital city offers the perfect start to any England itinerary. Nestled in the compact center, you'll find an eclectic sweep of the country's eras; glass-fronted skyscrapers are riding above 11th-century cathedrals, ornate Big Ben contrasts with the shimmering white of the London Eye. Most stops on this itinerary transport you into a particular century and architectural style; London is the complete mix, a congregation of ideas that have arrived from across the land.

You'll be picked up at the airport and transferred to a central five-star hotel. Meet your driver-guide and start by touring the Tower of London, the first of the World Heritage Sites on this itinerary. With its iconic turrets and unconquered walls, you're quickly introduced into the wealth and grandeur of England's past. Stopping to see the Crown Jewels confirms the sense of splendor, tens of thousands of precious stones glistening behind the glass. Now some English customs, an afternoon of high tea in the same five-star hotel Queen Victoria used to frequent. Cakes and artisanal snacks pile on a silver stand and the correct way to drink from the china teacup is with your little finger raised. Completing an eclectic first day is a West End show, an iconic performance wrapped in the exuberant atmosphere of Central London. Consider learning more about your potential UK tour operators, and see how they are able to personalize your itinerary to your every interest and desire.

Detailed Description

The charms of history cascade across the English countryside, revealing millennia of influence and style. Neolithic Stonehenge remains mysterious, Roman ruins dot green hills, inspiring cathedrals stand untouched, Norman castles delight in their grandeur, and you've only just entered the second millennium AD. Villages unravel the seduction of a medieval time while the architecture of university towns always speak of excess. Then there's the regal beauty; stately homes and towering castles, as well as landscaped gardens and fortified manor houses. Every destination on this England tour takes you to another century, revealing another side to English history and a timeless ode to its era.

This unique 10-day itinerary pieces together the charming jigsaw of England's past, taking you on a journey across the length and breadth of the country. Start in London, where afternoon tea and the inspiring Tower of London introduce you to both customs and architecture. Move north to Cambridge and a day of opulent architecture in the university town. The following day takes you into the rolling green hills of Yorkshire, an iconic postcard backdrop for visiting York, a city that fuses the influence of Romans and the Vikings on a labyrinth of medieval cobbled streets.

While each day offers three or four sightseeing spots, this journey through England also immerses you in the enchantment of its landscapes. Each day brings a new angle, although each of these seem to resemble a revered image of what England promises. Move from the vast pastures of the south to the rugged hills of Yorkshire and the wilderness of Northumberland. Looping back towards England, you wind through the raw and rolling Lake District before the splendor of the Cotswolds seems to come straight from a watercolor painting. On most of the nights, you're further immersed in the countryside through the handpicked collection of hotels, a chance to escape other tourists and intimately experience rural England.

Next, Hadrian's Wall, the great Roman divide, before you get lost in the inspiring Lake District scenery. World Heritage Site Ironbridge is the world's finest architectural memory from the Industrial Revolution while Stokesay Castle seems to come straight from a televised costume drama. Complete the day with a Shakespeare performance at the birthplace of the playwright, an atmospheric production set in a preserved early 17th-century village. Then you're in Bath, another World Heritage destination, one that delights in remembering Roman history while creating blissful portrayals of Georgian architecture.

While the itinerary moves fast, England's great attraction lies in its size. Despite the world fame and influence, this is a small country; smaller than most people realize. You travel with a private driver guide, weaving through a route that connects the dots of history. It's rare that any of the individual journeys are longer than two to three hours. Complete this luxury tour with two of England's unmissable destinations. Admire the enormity and mystique of Stonehenge, then wander through the splendor of Oxford, the world's first university town.

England Review: Multi-Generational Family Vacation, Stonehenge, Buckingham Palace, Cotswolds, Shakespeare, Oxford, Local Farm

Our trip to England was fantastic!  We traveled with my parents and my two teenaged boys. We only had 10 days for the trip, so we decided to keep our destinations relatively close together.  Our travel planner did a great job of listening to our must do items and weaving together an itinerary that hit everything without exhausting us.  They were very prompt in responding to any questions or changes and we were never left hanging.

We visited London, Stonehenge, The Cotswolds, Stratford, and Oxford.  During our four days in London, we went to Westminster Abbey, the Churchill War Rooms, Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Gardens, and The British Museum.  We saw two shows in London, one at the Globe and another right by Piccadilly Circus.  From there, we went to Hampton Court, Stonehenge, spent the night at a Castle in South Gloucestershire, took a tour of The Cotswolds, took in all things Shakespeare in Stratford, visited Blenheim Palace, Windsor Castle and had an owl evening at a falconry center where we got to handle and 'fly' several owls.  The trip was a perfect mix of city and country without having to drive hours on end.

The travel planner sent us a binder a couple weeks out from the trip with each day mapped out with our itinerary for the day, then any tickets or directions we would need for that day.  It was extremely organized and made everything very easy to keep track of.  They had suggestions for activities and places to eat, which were very helpful.

The trip was wonderful and everyone in the family loved it!

Review: England Vacation, London, Bath, Oxford, Dover Cliffs, Stonehenge, Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, Jane Austen Tour

This travel agency planned an excellent London, Bath, and multiple side-trip vacation for me and my family. The logistics were well-designed and executed. The tour guides were well above average, and the hotel choices in London and Bath were perfect.

We spent five nights in London, three nights in Bath, and our final night in Oxford.

Our side-trips from London included a day visiting sites related to the life of Jane Austen (Steventon, Chawton, Winchester, and Lacock) and day traveling south to visit Leeds castle in Kent, the Canterbury Cathedral, and the Dover Cliffs.

Our final day side trip took us from Bath, through Bradford-on-Avon, to Stonehenge, Highclere Castle, and then ending the day in Oxford.

Review: England Vacation, London, Bath, Thornbury, Cotswolds, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, Churchill War Rooms

Overall, this travel company provided a fantastic traveling experience. We were able to enjoy many of the iconic attractions in London, including the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Churchill War Rooms, and the Tower of London, as well as explore on our own. We also enjoyed afternoon tea and wonderful play in the West End! In addition, they provided some wonderful dining recommendations that turned out to be a few of our favorite meals!

Beyond London, we were able to explore numerous towns and villages in the southern England, including Thornbury, Cheddar, Bath, the Cotswolds, Winchester, and Windsor.

Ireland, Scotland, England Family Trip Review: Edinburgh, Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, Cliffs of Moher, History, Castle, Local Cuisine, Scenery, Art, 21 Days

Zicasso's trip planner worked with my family for the better part of a year planning our big family trip. She provided exceptional service and planned every detail of our trip. We have a large family, with lots of moving parts. There were many changes in the itinerary along the way and she rolled with all the many changes. She was always polite, courteous, and graceful in her many interactions with our family.

She listened carefully during our initial conversations to help us plan the best trip possible. Being a large family, with multiple generations, she really created the best possible experience, taking in everyone's wishes. Working with her was very relieving, knowing she was taking care of all the details.

Our family's trip took us from the States to Ireland, Scotland, and England. We traveled on planes, trains, ferry, and drove a car. Our trip planner arranged every detail meticulously. We stayed in lovely, quaint, boutique hotels, ate the most wonderful foods, saw the amazing sights, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites across all three countries. From the Cliffs of Moher to the Culloden Moor Memorial to Stonehenge to castles grand and desolate; from beautiful cathedrals to old abbey ruins; from little country pubs to Michelin-starred restaurants; and even spending a couple days in an actual 17th-century castle, every minute was amazing! Truly amazing!

Luxury Scotland & England Vacation Review: London, Cotswolds, York, Isle of Skye, Edinburgh, Lochs, Castles, Scottish Highlands
Our party of 4 just returned from our 2 week tour of England. London was our first destination. It was great from the start. We had a private driver and tour guides the whole time. Angela was our guide for England and Jeffrey was our guide in Scotland. Both were awesome and took exceptional care of us. We drove about 1000 miles from London up through the Cotswolds, York and then into Scotland, and all the way up to the Isle of Skye and the Lochs. We ended our trip in Edinburgh. Everything was customized to our particular interests and just wonderful. We stayed in castles along the way for the full on Downton Abbey experience and visited some sites from the Outlander movies. I would be hard pressed to say what my favorite things were, since everywhere we went was amazing. We did love our nights at the castles. The Castle near Chester-le-Street, the Castle near Girvan and the Castle near Fort William were magical. It was a vacation of a life time. I can't say enough about our guide Jeffrey in Scotland. I've never seen anyone more bent on pleasing his guests. All we had to do was mention a place or stop or whatever and he'd make it happen. A more knowledgeable and purely nice person you'll never meet.I hope to get another chance to tour with Jeffrey and this travel company. We're already thinking about next year.

Luxury England Vacation Review: Private Tower of London Tour, Stonehenge, Oxford, 20-Day Trip

We have used this travel company several times and Lindsey and her team continue to impress. The itineraries are creative, the service is impeccable and quick, and they truly listen.Part of our most recent trip we were traveling to England with our two grandsons (ages 7 and 5). Lindsey arranged for a kid-oriented pre-opening tour of the Tower of London. After we entered we were the only tourists in the Tower until it opened to the public 45 minutes after we arrived. They literally closed the gates after we entered and were greeted by our private Yeoman Warder. We walked with him, asked questions and immediately went to the storehouse for the Crown Jewels and had a private tour of the complete display. We couldn’t believe we were the only ones there! The guide was excellent and had a booklet with things the kids were supposed to find as we toured. They were very engaged and they are still talking about it.Earlier on our trip we were in the Loire Valley of France celebrating milestone birthdays with 30 friends and family at a chateau. The trip had been postponed to 2022 from 2020 due to Covid. After the hell of the last two years we asked Lindsey for ideas to make the Loire portion of our trip extra special. She suggested a wine tasting cruise on the Loire River with a sommelier, Loire Valley wines, food pairings, and musical accompaniment. Wow was that fun and our friends had the time of their lives as did we.A few days before we were to leave France via plane to England, the French airport workers called a strike for the day we were to fly. We contacted Lindsey who immediately arranged for us to change from taking a plane to taking the Eurostar train instead. And the plane fare was refunded before we got home.We travel a lot. When we travel we look for unique experiences and hassle-free travel. This travel agency has met our expectations and exceeded them every time we use them.
