Athens – Arrive in Athens with a Welcoming Tour of the Plaka District
The captivating city of Athens embodies the history and evolution of Greece from ancient times to contemporary life. The neighborhood of Monastiraki brings present-day life to the forefront accentuated by tradition in the form of daily flea markets. Clothing, jewelry, pottery, and artwork reflect the cultural and historical tastes of the nation amid the aroma of fresh baked goods winding down the narrow lanes of the Athenian neighborhood. Cafes and trendy bars line the walkways of the neighboring district of Psyrri. Your flight lands at Athens International Airport where your private transfer greets the family at customs.
Upon entering the heart of the city, the Parthenon towers above the ancient streets of the Plaka, the historic district winding around the base of Acropolis Hill. The fantastic introduction to the historic district emerges in the form of the Church of Agios Nikolaos Ragavas. The 11th-century edifice has a Byzantine architectural style featuring marble columns remaining from the original ancient temple. Cafes set up tables and chairs along the narrow cobbled lanes winding between pastel-painted homes. The Roman Agora was once the active heart of the marketplace with columned shops, bustling squares, and trickling fountains. The Tower of Winds is an octagonal, marble clock tower erected in the 2nd century BC standing nearly 40 feet tall. The height helped cast shadows over the eight surrounding sundials and measure the direction of the wind.

We booked a 2 week vacation to Greece with this agent and travel company for the end of May. Our travel agent helped us plan the perfect vacation for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was the most incredible trip, more than we could ever have imagined! She planned accommodations, excursions and tours at each place we visited that highlighted each place. We started our trip in Athens for 3 nights, Crete 3 nights, Mykonos 3 nights and Santorini for 4 nights.
We were met promptly at the Athens airport by our driver taken to our Hotel in Athens where we were met by our agent personally to give us all of our tickets and instructions for our stay in Greece. As well she gave us a cell phone programmed with her number and the travel agency in case we had any issues during our time in Greece.
We stayed at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens at a wonderful boutique hotel. Our trip started with a private tour(highly recommend) of the Archeological museum of Athens ,the Acropolis and the area surrounding. Truly specials and unforgettable! A romantic dinner at a beautiful restaurant in the center of Athens. Watching the sun set on the Acropolis with all of Athens at our feet...stunning. A free day to explore a bit of the ancient and beautiful city then onto Crete.
We were met by a delightful young man, who was our guide for all 3 days on this amazing island. Wine tours, Palace of King Mynos at Knossos, ancient cities Rhethmynon and Chania, beautiful beaches and stunning views. We fell in love with Crete.
Then Mykonos. A beautiful little jewel of an island with beautiful beaches and ancient cities once attacked by pirates. A romantic dinner, tour of the island of Delos (incredible!) and getting lost in the maze of streets that make up Mykonos town.
Then onto Santorini. A jewel in the beauty of the Aegean Sea. Stunning hotel on the cliffs with a view that you never tired of, wine tours, a full day Catamaran sail to beaches and the Caldera ending with a magnificent sunset at Land's End. Santorini was the cherry on top of the trip. Truly a stunning island.
And everywhere we went the friendly, hospitable and welcoming Greek people. We can't say enough on how well orchestrated this trip was. We had flawless connections, over-the-top accommodations, incredible guides, amazing excursions that did not disappoint at any of our island visits. "More than we could have ever imagined" is how we describe this trip to friends and family. We highly recommend this company and the travel agent who planned a trip exactly to fit us personally.
Thank you Zicasso for your stellar travel agents and fantastic job of Jackie who paired us up with such great agents to choose from.

This Greece travel company did a great job setting us up at ideal locations in Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. All were located in the central area, right near the center of each town for shopping and restaurants. The people at the hotels were really nice and everything was very organized that we did not have to worry about anything.

A really great trip! The itinerary was exactly what I requested, and a good combination of coordinated tours and free time. Our agent did a good job of working with me to set a schedule that gave us a really good sampling of what Greece has to offer. He was able to find better pricing on my international flights than I was on my own. I had this company book everything from soup to nuts for a worry free trip.
Athens was pretty cool. A huge sprawling city, that we found surprisingly clean, friendly, and organized for such a large city. The hotel was a very convenient 5 minute walk to Plaka and the Acropolis. Breakfast on the roof every morning staring at the Parthenon was hard to beat. Go to the Acropolis as early as you can in the morning, and leave the air conditioned museum for later when it gets hot. The heat and sun after 11:00 are brutal. Plaka is the area below the Acropolis full of restaurants and shops. It is a very interesting old area and lots of fun to explore for tourists and locals alike. A great place to shop and people watch.
Mykonos is one of the major tourist destinations for the younger generation and party crowd. The little town is full of small ally ways with shops, restaurants and Interesting architecture. Cruise ships, private and charter yachts and daily flights all converge on Mykonos so, it can get very crowded. If you like to explore a little, you can get lost in the maze of ally ways and end up where the locals live. It was fun to watch the local children play soccer at one of the small schools on the island. Mykonos is the place to see and be seen. We took the tour to Delos to see the birth place of Apollo. This was a great close up, uncrowded view of ancient Greek civilization.
Santorini. What else can you say about Santorini? Its so beautiful! The views in every direction are unbelievable. Santorini is a more mature, higher end experience. Fantastic restaurants, great shopping. Bring extra batteries and memory for your camera. The sunsets are the best. Everybody kind of stops what they are doing for the last 20 minutes of the day just to watch the sunset. We took a wine tour that included a wine museum, a local farm that grows tomatoes, capers and pistachios, and a small "ghost town" with some houses from the last major earthquake in the 50's. We took a Catamaran cruise into the caldera for dinner and swimming. That was really great. The views from the water were fantastic and the service and food on the boat were very good. Santorini is a must see on any trip to Greece.
