Athens – Arrive in the Capital of Greece with a Day Free Day in Athens

You will arrive at Athens International Airport, where your private transfer will meet you at customs to escort you into the city. Greece has an incredible balance of ancient heritage and contemporary culture as ancient temples celebrate Classical mythology, Byzantine temples embody the canonized shift to Western European monotheism, and restaurants blend historical recipes with modern taste. The city of Athens symbolizes the “Cradle of Western Civilization,” and the marvelous clash of the past and present.

Cafes serve Greek coffee and sweet baklava topped with vanilla ice cream, and you need to stop and enjoy your first serving. The remainder of the day is yours to indulge in the unique ambiance of the city finding enchantment atop the Acropolis or the aroma of local culinary delights along Aiolou Street. A fantastic introduction to Greece’s gastronomic specialties leads you to a marvelous view of the Acropolis to sample a loukoumades, a Greek donut often topped with honey and cinnamon. The freshly fried pastry is served warm from the fryer and made with a traditional recipe filling the air with the scent of spices and sugar. Adventurous Greeks fill their loukoumades with chocolate, creamy cheese, banana, or mastiha—a resin from the mastic trees which contains an herbaceous pine-like flavor.

Greece Luxury Trip Review: Cooking Class, Sunset Cruise, Food Tour, Acropolis, Culture, History, 10 Nights

My husband and I recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to Greece, exploring the breathtaking islands of Crete, Santorini, and Naxos, and the vibrant city of Athens. Our trip was meticulously planned and executed by Zicasso’s exceptional team, who went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect. From the moment we set foot in Greece until the day we reluctantly departed, they were with us every step of the way, turning our vacation into the memory of a lifetime.

Chania, Crete: Our adventure began in Chania, Crete, where we stayed at a luxurious hotel and spa. This boutique hotel, situated right on the waterfront, offered stunning views and impeccable service. The highlight of our stay in Crete was a delightful cooking class, where we learned to prepare traditional Cretan dishes with fresh, local ingredients. The warmth and hospitality of the staff at the hotel made us feel right at home.

Santorini: Next, we traveled to the iconic island of Santorini. Our hotel was nestled on the cliffs overlooking the caldera and provided an idyllic setting for our vacation. One of the most memorable experiences was the catamaran sunset cruise, on which we sailed around the island, marveling at the stunning volcanic landscape and enjoying a delicious onboard dinner as the sun set over the Aegean Sea. The hotel staff ensured every moment was magical. The hotel concierge kept in touch with us via WhatsApp. She was amazing!!!!

Naxos: Our journey continued to the charming island of Naxos. The hotel’s blend of traditional architecture and modern amenities provided a comfortable and stylish retreat. Our travel agency organized a fantastic Naxos town food tour, allowing us to savor the island’s culinary delights and learn about its rich history. We also embarked on a private village tour, exploring the quaint villages and experiencing the authentic Naxian way of life. The hospitality at the hotel was exceptional, making our stay truly memorable.

Athens: Our final destination was the bustling city of Athens. Located in the heart of the city, our luxurious hotel offered stunning views of the Acropolis and easy access to Athens’ historical sites. The staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.

Outstanding Service: The personal touches provided by Zicasso’s travel agency truly set them apart. During the planning phase, I had the pleasure of speaking with the founder and lead travel designer. He took the time to understand our expectations and preferences, recommending Naxos instead of Mykonos based on our interest in food tours, culture, and history. Trusting his advice was one of the best decisions we made, as Naxos turned out to be one of our favorite islands.

His company’s commitment to our satisfaction was evident from the moment we landed in Athens, where we were greeted by an agent, with a lovely gift, who walked us to our gate for the flight to Chania. Throughout our trip, we communicated via WhatsApp, receiving daily messages with our boarding passes and itinerary. Their professionalism shone through when unexpected situations arose, such as a five-hour ferry delay in Crete. They reassured us continuously, adjusting our schedule as needed without any hassle.

When my luggage was lost on the flight from Naxos to Athens, the company promptly contacted the airline and ensured my luggage was delivered to our hotel in Athens. Their proactive and attentive service made all the difference.

Each hotel provided us with sumptuous breakfasts, a feast for the eyes and the palate, prepared by amazing chefs. The food throughout our trip was memorable and the hospitality at every location was outstanding.

Every trip I take from now on will be compared to this bucket-list vacation that Zicasso’s company planned for us. I would not hesitate to use them the next time I visit Greece, knowing it will be another dream trip.

Final Thoughts: The travel agency turned our Greek vacation into a seamless, extraordinary experience. Their attention to detail, personalized service, and commitment to excellence made our trip a true dream. If you’re planning a trip to Greece, I highly recommend them – they create memories that last a lifetime.

Luxury Vacation Review: Greece, Crete, Naxos Villages & Winery, Mykonos, Santorini, Athens, History
I consider myself a traveler but had never been to Greece before and wanted to ‘do it right’. I had a three week timeframe to spend in the islands.  Of course Mykonos and Santorini were on my list and I looked to this travel team for additional recommendations.  They suggested Crete and Naxos.  It was a wonderful and interesting mix.  From our Acropolis tour in Athens, authentic Naxos tour of villages and winery, every detail was meticulously tended to and this travel team checked in with me multiple times throughout my journey.  All transfers and guides were timely, knowledgeable and very nice people. Several of the guides felt like friends by the time we concluded.  The travel planner of this team was responsive to my inquiries and did a very good job of delivering the best Greece had to offer!

Greece Vacation Review: Crete, Santorini, Naxos, Athens, Food, Wine, Boat Trip, Local Culture, 10 Nights

My daughter and I planned a trip to Greece to celebrate her college graduation. A friend told me about Zicasso and they set me up with a tour company to help plan out our trip. They exceeded my expectations and our trip was seamless because of their help. The owner was amazing from the start. We discussed what we were most interested in when it came to picking out which islands suited us best. She had many ideas and then we collaborated on what fit best with our timeline, budget, and dates.

We went to Crete, Santorini, and Naxos, and ended in Athens. In total, our trip was 10 days. The travel company does everything for you except domestic flights. Honestly, if we had had to do all the trip planning ourselves, it would have been so much more work. Knowing there will be someone to greet you and get you to your next destination when you land at airports or seaports is huge.

We picked hotels that were three to four stars and they were all fabulous. Our family has traveled extensively and I usually do most of the legwork myself. However, there are places like Greece where you need help and insight. The travel company’s owner knew the hotels well and had relationships with the staff. We couldn't have done it without her.

We enjoyed all four destinations. We loved Chania in Crete and had a wonderful cooking class/olive oil tasting that I would highly recommend. We loved our guide and the chef, and the food was delicious. We would definitely go back to Crete.

We then ferried over to Santorini, which was worth seeing, and we kayaked and hiked there. The best food and wine was in Santorini. However, I would not go back. There are way too many tourists and cruise ships.

We then ferried to Naxos and loved it. We rented a car and found a tiny town (one eating shack) where we hopped on a little boat with 12 other people. It was beautiful.

We then flew to Athens and had a great private tour to see the Acropolis/Parthenon. It was magical.

Travel Review: Luxury Honeymoon in Greece, Naxos, Crete, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Archaeology, History, Food & Wine

This travel agent is fantastic! She was super friendly and extremely easy to work with. Using them again on our next trip is a no brainer. If you have the opportunity or interest, we strongly suggest visiting Greece, it was simply amazing and WAY better than we could have ever imagined. We visited Athens, Crete, Santorini, Naxos, and Mykonos. Each was awesome in their own right, Athens for the history and archeological sites. Crete, for the fresh food, wine, and olive oil. Santorini, for the amazing sunsets, villages, and the beautiful water. Naxos, for it's authenticity and beaches. Mykonos, for it's night life and entertainment.

Luxury Greece Vacation Review: Crete, Santorini, Naxos, Athens, Hiking, Catamaran Cruise, Archaeological Sites, 12-Day Tour
We had a very enjoyable trip to Greece - Crete, Santorini, Naxos and Athens! The places that we visited were diverse and very interesting - 1) Crete: hiking the Imbros gorge, visits to special restaurants (slow-cooking, small village) and Knossos Minoan site; 2) Santorini: Catamaran cruise and tour around the picturesque island; 3) villages in the diverse and beautiful Naxos - ceramic pottery studio, village in the mountain, lovely beaches, kouri statues for the classical era; and 4) Athens - the unique Acropolis and other archaeological sites (Ancient Agora, Temple of Zeus....), Delphi and walking around the Plaka and other areas. Our guides were knowledgeable and very nice. Our travel planner worked with us to put together a special trip with great suggestions.  We had interesting tours and great food in the restaurants on our tour. There was a misunderstanding in what our highest priority was  - that is the Acropolis and other archaeological sites (which should have been given more time and focus, since we were on a private tour). There was also some minor misunderstandings between our travel agency and the contract guides as to the contents of specific tour.

Review: Anniversary Vacation in Greece, Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Delos, Knossos Palace, Acropolis Tour, Catamaran Cruise

We booked a 2 week vacation to Greece with this agent and travel company for the end of May.   Our travel agent helped us plan the perfect vacation for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was the most incredible trip, more than we could ever have imagined! She planned accommodations, excursions and tours at each place we visited that highlighted each place.  We started our trip in Athens for 3 nights, Crete 3 nights, Mykonos 3 nights and Santorini for 4 nights.

We were met promptly at the Athens airport by our driver taken to our Hotel in Athens where we were met by our agent personally to give us all of our tickets and instructions for our stay in Greece. As well she gave us a cell phone programmed with her number and the travel agency in case we had any issues during our time in Greece.

We stayed at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens at a wonderful boutique hotel. Our trip started with a private tour(highly recommend)  of the Archeological museum of Athens ,the Acropolis and the area surrounding. Truly specials and unforgettable! A romantic dinner at a beautiful restaurant in the center of Athens.  Watching the sun set on the Acropolis with all of Athens at our feet...stunning. A free day to explore a bit of the ancient and beautiful city then onto Crete.

We were met by a delightful young man, who was our guide for all 3 days on this amazing island. Wine tours, Palace of King Mynos at Knossos, ancient cities Rhethmynon and Chania, beautiful beaches and stunning views. We fell in love with Crete.

Then Mykonos. A beautiful little jewel of an island with beautiful beaches and ancient cities once attacked by pirates. A romantic dinner, tour of the island of Delos (incredible!) and getting lost in the maze of streets that make up Mykonos town.

Then onto Santorini. A jewel in the beauty of the Aegean Sea. Stunning hotel on the cliffs with a view that you never tired of, wine tours, a full day Catamaran sail to beaches and the Caldera ending with a magnificent sunset at Land's End. Santorini was the cherry on top of the trip. Truly a stunning island.

And everywhere we went the friendly, hospitable and welcoming Greek people.  We can't say enough on how well orchestrated this trip was. We had flawless connections, over-the-top accommodations, incredible guides, amazing excursions that did not disappoint at any of our island visits.  "More than we could have ever imagined" is how we describe this trip to friends and family.  We highly recommend this company and the travel agent who planned a trip exactly to fit us personally.

Thank you Zicasso for your stellar travel agents and fantastic job of Jackie who paired us up with such great agents to choose from.
