Day 1

Delhi – Taking the First Step

Welcome to the capital of India, Delhi, where the city rises from its old historic paths into new and promising futures, reborn every day in a new wash of light. You are met at the airport by a private transfer and taken into the city where you will soon visit the monuments that decorate the streets and add to the splendor. The Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India with the ability to hold up to 25,000 people in its courtyard.

The atmosphere around the mosque is always filled with awe and joyful energy, people ready to step inside and devote themselves or simply witness the grandeur of the structure that was meant as a devotion of its own, built in the 15th century with 15 different domes that undulate across the skyline. A simple black-marble platform just south of the Red Fort brings you to the location where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated in 1948. The area along the banks of the Yamuna River provokes thought and wonder and stretches the lengths of India’s modern history and beyond, filled with vibrant flowers often sprawling along the marble beneath the flickering flame that continues to billow no matter the weather.

From ancient carved temples to holy rivers, bathing pools to British ruins, there are endless possibilities of the wonders that came before, during, and after Buddha made His way through India, each step bringing you a different, splendid experience.

Following the steps of Buddha begins in Delhi where the capital city of India brings a new kind of energy to light. Tour through the city to witness the mixtures of the old and new, from the colorful bazaar to the 16th century minaret known as the Qutub Minar. Find the morning alert and aromatic with spices, from green cardamom to fennel seed as you make your way to Agra to view Emperor Shah Jehan’s architectural masterpiece, the Taj Mahal. Then wind your way through Agra Fort and the various monuments that have brought the city to the forefront of architectural and historical elegance. The following morning you will immerse yourself in the culture, drifting along the river on a boat, finding the true life of the city. In the evening you will come to Bodhgaya, home to the Bodhi Tree where Buddha found enlightenment.

Continue en route to Patna and visit the celebrated ruins along Rajgir and Nalanda, one known for the first Buddhist Council, the other for the world’s greatest Buddhist universities. The majesty of Kushinagar is found in its uniqueness, and is where Buddha breathed his last breath, while in Lumbini, Nepal, you will find His birthplace and the sacred pool of Maya Devi within the Maya Devi Temple, where the goddess bathed before birthing Siddhartha. Back in India you will arrive in Balrampur before venturing onward to the diverse city of Lucknow, capital of the Uttar Pradesh state and home to elaborate calligraphy and the silver throne of Nawabs. Travel Review: India Family Vacation, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, Udaipur, Rajasthan, Sunrise Taj Mahal Tour, Elephant Experience

Our family of four recently travelled to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur with this India travel company.  Right from the initial planning stages to our good bye, all was PERFECT.  Our driver was a kind, soft spoken gentleman who immediately brought smiles to the kids' faces.  He knew all of the perfect spots to stop for a quick bite and clean bathrooms.  Our guide made sure we were comfortable in all aspects of our adventure.

Our guide in Agra kept the kids entertained as well as the adults.  The sunrise trip to the Taj Mahal was an once in a lifetime experience.  In Jaipur, our tour guide even took me on a unplanned shopping trip.  Finally in Udaipur, our guide showed us around his beautiful city and mesmerized my youngest with his cell phone pictures of Bollywood stars.

We chose Oberoi Hotels for all of our accommodations and we were treated like royalty!  Everything from the pillows to dessert was above expectation.

We all agreed that our next vacation will be to India and will also be planned by this travel agency!  Already looking forward to it!

India Luxury Vacation Review, Jaipur & Udaipur, Monkey Temple, Jantar Mantar, Lakes, Palaces, Markets & Cuisine
Thank you and everyone at this travel company for our tour of Jaipur and Udaipur.  You have renewed my faith in travel in India.  The hotels were fabulous!  The hotel in Jaipur was so relaxing and had everything we needed.  What stunning sunrise and sunset views and architecture!  I healed all my bug bites from staying with family!  The food was a nice variety of Indian dishes and European fare.  We loved the free puppet show each evening.  Our tour guide, was flexible, informed and moved at our pace.  We so enjoyed his walking us through the markets and guiding us as we tasted local street food.  Our driver was great - always on time, smooth and knowledgeable.  Jaipur was beautiful and so clean compared to other cities.  Amber Palace was lovely.  We enjoyed the temple with all the monkeys and the rooftop restaurant in Jaipur.  Our day at the city palace and Jantar Mantir was fascinating.  Our guide helped us find a couple items we were looking for.  The sales techniques are offensive but we are happy with our purchases.  In Udaipur we stayed in a modern palace.  The hotel is pretty far from the city and everything else but stunningly beautiful.  I would not put people in this hotel who are over 60 as the stairs are daunting.  The views are amazing and there are hiking trails around the area.  The rooms are palatial.  We found the food to be less than at its best (a bit stale and fruit and yoghurt past their prime).  Dining outside with spectacular views helped.  We missed the temple on our first day due to flight delay but our guide, created an addition of two local temples which were quite fascinating.  The boat ride was gorgeous, the city palace, local Vishnu temple and evening cultural performance were lovely.  We had asked to not be taken to any sales sites unless requested and we were taken to an Art School which was somewhat interesting but we would rather not have gone.  The lakeside restaurant was great with wonderful food.  Again our highlight was walking through the local markets and neighborhoods. Our driver was great.  I felt he always had an eye out for our welfare. These two cities were much more comfortable to our family from the Pacific NW.  We needed lessons on how to use the TVs in the hotels.  The large touring buses kept us up above the traffic with easy access for photos.  There was lots of room for each of us, our stuff and the guides. We faced another flight delay leaving Udaipur but that's not your fault.  All in all, Zicasso again has made this trip spectacular.  We feel supported and yet free.  Thank you!All of the people at this travel company were great communicators and great resources. We'll be back!Thank you all!Mary and C. S.

Travel Review: Luxury India Family Trip, Agra, Rajasthan, Jaipur, Delhi, Ranthambore, Tiger Safari, Local Culture & Cuisine

Our accommodations were excellent. We had a fantastic time in Rajasthan and Agra. Our travel company exceeded our expectations of the trip. Everything was well planned from start to finish. We were received at Delhi airport; and until we reached our departure airport at Jaipur, everything was taken care of. This allowed me and my family to just focus on having fun. At every hotel, we had a local representative from the company receive us and take us to the lobby, while the bags were being sent to our rooms. Th prep also arranged our check-in into the hotel while we sipped our welcome juice in the beautiful hotel lobby. The rep also explained our itinerary for the next 2 days there. The guide would arrive promptly as per the time decided. The guides selected were great; gave us information while in the car and at the site; and even took us shopping to the local stores. Having a personal guide throughout allowed us to just enjoy our sightseeing. The guide took care of our tickets, and entry into the very crowded monuments. We had a 11 stare tempo traveller with us during the entire trip; this was extremely comfortable and my kids had flexibility of walking around in the tempo on long rides. It was also good on the bumpy roads between Agra and Ranthambore. Our accommodations were excellent too. The hotel in Agra and especially the hotel in Ranthambore were gorgeous. The people were extremely friendly and accommodated us very well. The hotel in Jaipur was beautiful; they even allowed us late check-in during this busy time free of charge. Our hotel rooms were upgraded by our agent in 2 of the 3 hotels, which were just beautiful. Our tour designer and his team were very responsive to our needs right from the time we decided to go with their company until our trip was done. Someone would call me at least every other day to check and see if everything was going ok. I even changed my itinerary a day before and our tour designer not only made the change, but also arranged for a guide to go with us at our recommended time. All in all, it was truly a luxurious experience. We felt like the Rajasthani royals!!

Travel Review: Luxury India Vacation, Delhi, Udaipur, Agra, Varanasi, Amber Fort, Taj Mahal, Elephant Experience, Local Cuisine

My friend and I just came back from India on a 12 day tour of five cities, New Delhi, Udaipur, Jaipur, Agra, and Varanasi. This travel agent worked with me to customize the itinerary to fit my requirements. Together we created a perfect trip. (And, my agent was extremely patient with us as we made innumerable changes to the itinerary!)

What made it exceptional was the level of detail and coordination that my agent and his team did to ensure that his company representatives met us at each city, introduced us to our drivers, and took us to the hotel and checked us in. The representatives then introduced us to our guides.  Nothing was left to chance, including giving us a local phone with the numbers of representatives already entered. It was perfect!

The local guides were great, very professional, and passionate about the history and culture of their city. Plus, they were fun! We had the right combination of touring the cities, palaces, forts, and shrines balanced with shopping and relaxing at the hotels.

India Tour Review: Delhi, Radjastan, Jaipur, Varanasi, Jodhpur, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, River Ganges Experience, Cooking Class

First of all I want to thank our agent for leaping us organizing our trip. He was very nice, helpful and professional.

We had a great trip in India, from November 4th to 14th 2015. What we really enjoyed with our travel agency is that the drivers and the guides were courteous, polite, nice and always on time. The car was great,  very clean and very comfortable for the 2 of us. We enjoyed the daily calls from our travel agency to make sure everything was great. All the temples/ mosques or other buildings or museums were worth visiting. We used good and reliable domestic flights ( IndiGo and jet airway ). Always having a travel agency representative in the hotels or at the airports waiting for us, helping us with hotels or flight formalities were a nice help and a nice asset. Our travel agency clearly tried to make things as smooth as possible, which is always a challenge in India..............

However we think there is still room for the company to improve, especially in communication with us. As an example, they told us at the last minute that our Bollywood show was canceled because of Diwali festival. We cannot understand that this can be a last minute announcement. If they had checked before they would have noticed that that show was canceled in advance. Same thing for our cooking class which was marked for lunch on our program, and while we were driving to that class, we were told that the class was rescheduled in the evening. In parallel the cook told us that the class had always been scheduled for the evening. This show that they do not check a few days ahead to make sure that their timetable is correct. As a consequence we totally lost an whole morning in Agra, staying at the hotel waiting for the class, instead of visiting that great city. Same problem with our timing on the day we left Varanasi, flying to Delhi then driving to Agra. We left Delhi at 1 pm( totally on time vs schedule ) drove 4 hours to Agra, where we were supposed to visit the Agra fort. But the Agra fort closes at 5 pm. So this timetable was not working. As a consequence the day after, we had only 5 hours to visit the Taj Mahal, the Agra fort , drive to Fakepur sikri and visit the palace. We visited those 3 exceptional monument while running and felt extremely frustrated! Most probably the 3 most beautiful things to visit in India and we had only 5 hours. In parallel our guide that day was our least favorite. He was not very kind with us, just telling we have to go, we have to go...those 5 hours were the biggest failure of our trip...in Agra, we went to a choky Donny dinner. we had no idea what it was  about, and thought it was only a restaurant with specialties from Rajastan. but in fact it is a huge fair, with the restaurant inside. If we had known about it, we would not have wore fancy clothes, as we eat sitting on a cushion and there is dust everywhere...those are little details, but the travel agency should better describe this in the timetable. Clearly explain how many hours of driving between 2 cities, some details like what to wear at special places, check in advance all our reservations ( Bollywood show, cooking class) because a last minute change is really frustrating , make sure we can do everything in one day to avoid running while visiting monuments. My agent had told me to buy souvenirs in Jaipur( carpets, clothes...) but did not tell us why. In fact in Jaipur everything is much cheaper because there is much less taxes than in other cities. This should be clearly explained beforehand to everyone, to avoid buying in Delhi which is very expensive and not the same quality as in Jaipur!!!! Another problem is the luggage limit on domestic flights . We took a flight from Jaipur to Delhi on our last day, before heading back to Newark. Unfortunately on Jetairway, you can only have 1 luggage per person, 15kg/ luggage. We had to pay $150 extra to travel, which represent 4% of our total trip. The travel agency should warn us in advance or consider another company when they know that we have all our luggage with presents with us just before heading back to the US.....the hotels were very good ( The hotel in Delhi is very modern and comfortable ), the hotel in Agra was our favorite, the hotel in Rajputana was very good too, but surprisingly in the middle of Agra . The hotel in Varanasi was not a good choice, as it is very old, dated, very noisy and the food ( breakfast and lunch) is really not good.our favorite guide was our guide in Agra, he is really great, explaining everything, very friendly. Our Diwali event in a restaurant, organized by our agency was great and memorable. Our cooking class was amazing . The travel agency should work much more with the chef in Agra. Not only the cooking class was good, but it was just the 2 of us with the chef and it was followed by a dinner with the chef and his wife, eating all the dishes we had prepared. We felt very welcomed and special....so to sum up, it was a great trip but the communication between us and the travel agency should be improved, the schedule should be checked in advance by them to make sure it is realistic....

India Travel Review: Agra, Ranthambore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur

Our recent trip to India will always be remembered as the happiest three weeks of our lives thanks to everyone at the India travel company that we used. The professional and personal attention we received from our first contact, during the planning stages and during our entire stay was beyond any hope or expectation. Arriving and departing from Delhi, we visited Agra, Ranthambore, Jaipur, Jodphur and Udaipur, covering great distances within Rajasthan. We traveled with confidence and comfort in the company of an extraordinary gentleman, who we met as our driver and left as our friend.  Each day was an adventure led by the same local representative for that area, all of whom have worked for them many years. Degreed historians and patient, good natured ambassadors to Indian culture, they were remarkable hosts and companions who contributed greatly our trip of a lifetime.  Staying at some of the finest luxury properties in India with the advantage of our association with the travel company, we were offered every possible courtesy and consideration and were able to enjoy the "down time" we had built into our itinerary.

While this was our first trip to India, it will not be our last and we can't imagine doing it without this tour company.
