Rome – Arrive in Rome with an In-Depth Tour of the Ancient World

No other city matches the wonder of Rome, from its political history and cultural passions, its lavish museums, and artistic masterpieces, Rome captivates visitors with an opulent past matched only by imagination. Your flight will land at Fiumicino Airport where your private transfer will await your arrival at baggage claim. In the heart of the historical center, you will find your hotel welcomes you with luxury and view of the garden that continues to the dome of the Santa Maria del Popolo. After you take some time to refresh yourself in the comforts of your room, your guide will meet you in the lobby ready to introduce you to the wonders of the ancient city.

The scent of rich espresso drifts out of the café beside the hotel as tables line the edges of the Piazza del Popolo beneath the Baroque façade of the church. Your guide will lead you to Michelangelo’s Campidoglio, one of Rome’s most iconic 16th-century squares that connect the two summits of Capitoline Hill. The hillside is the epicenter of the Roman Empire, from its founding to its fall. Michelangelo designed the new square in the 1530s under the patronage of Pope Paul II Farnese and the master artist transformed the original trapezoidal shape of the piazza into an intriguing oval. Work on the square continued well into the 17th-century long after Michelangelo passed away. The lavish square is the perfect place to start your exploration of Rome’s captivating history, from its ancient roots to its luxurious reformation throughout the millennia.

Travel Review: Memorable Vacation to Italy, Florence, Tuscany, Siena, Antinori Winery Tour, Rome, Vatican Tour
Giuliana of this Italy travel company guided us every step of the way and created one of our most memorable vacations. The most impressive thing at the outset was how quickly she responded to our initial inquiry. We had never been to Italy, had not done a great deal of research, and had only a general idea of what we wanted beyond the dates (mid-May) and the cities we wanted to visit (Florence and Rome). Within a day, Giuliana submitted a detailed proposed itinerary based on a recent client request similar to ours. The proposal included various options that provided a great starting point for further discussion. She asked many questions, including our hotel preferences (small boutique, high-rise, how many stars, etc.) and suggested a number of venues that would expose us to Italy’s remarkable history and culture. The result was a vacation specifically suited to our personal tastes and interests. We spent four days in Florence and three in Rome. In Florence, we stayed at the Hotel Lungarno on the Arno River, a lovely small hotel in the heart of the city within walking distance to everything of interest, including the Uffizi and Academy museums, and the famous Duomo. It rained two nights, but we didn’t have far to go for a great dinner. The hotel restaurant was superb. One of the highlights of the Florence leg of the trip was a day tour of the Tuscany wine region that included a stopover in the historic town of Siena. We had lunch at the Osteria di Passignano, a restaurant at the Antinori vineyards where we were treated to a four course lunch and wine tasting and a tour of the winery. Fabulous. In Rome, we stayed at the Hotel Saint George. Another small, well appointed, boutique hotel, centrally located near the Tiber River, it provided access to all the essential venues, including the Vatican, Coliseum, Spanish Steps, etc. As in Florence, everything was in walking distance, including fine dining restaurants, pizzerias, espresso bars, and gelateria—and lots of places to shop. The hotel was comfortable, attractive, with a friendly and efficient staff, but we would not recommend the hotel restaurant. It was nice enough (although too brightly lit) but was virtually empty the night we were there and the food was just O.K. That wasn’t Giuliana’s fault since the hotel restaurant was not on her recommended list. We were just tired (it was our first night) and thought we’d give it a try. The hotel concierge made up for it, however, by recommending two great nearby restaurants for the remaining two nights. Neither was on Guiliana’s list, but they were terrific. A word about the logistical aspects of the trip: we viewed this as critical to the success of a customized tour with multiple venues and connections. We couldn’t have been more pleased. On arriving at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, we were greeted by Aldo who drove us to the high-speed train to Florence. After sharing an espresso with us in the station café, he made sure we got on the right train, helped us with our bags, and took us to our seats. Similar service greeted us at every connection point during the trip. Our personal tour guides, Enza (Florence), Andrea (Tuscany), and Sylvia (Rome), were exceptionally knowledgeable, personable, and fluent in English. Giuliana telephoned us at several points during the trip to confirm that we had arrived at our destination, that the drivers were on time, and that the accommodations met our expectations. Very reassuring to know she was keeping such close tabs on things. In short, all elements of transportation and personal service were impeccable. Would we visit Italy again? Without doubt. The trip simply whetted our appetites. Would we use this company? We wouldn’t consider any other service. Next time, however, we’ll make more of an effort to visit the restaurants recommended by Giuliana.

Travel Review: Italy Family Vacation, Rome, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Montepulciano, Siena, San Gimiagnano, Cortona Cooking Class

This was a trip of a lifetime.  I was thrilled by the itinerary that our agent and her team put together for us.  It included everything I wanted--upscale accommodations, private transfers and tours and unique experiences.  The trip went off perfectly!  Every driver showed up on time and we loved every day of the trip.  The only disappointment I had was that we realized we would be hitting Siena on a Sunday morning and could not tour the cathedral.  I wish we could have worked around that somehow but the driver had us on a time schedule and we could not wait until it opened.  Also, the day the tour guide met us to tour the Vatican I did not realize that we had to take cabs--the rest of the trip we had drivers arranged and I did not realize on the schedule that was not part of the tour that day.  We had to take 2 cabs because the tour guide had to ride with us and if I had realized this we would have met her at the Vatican.  Also in Montepulciano, the hotel had a hard time getting us cabs for us to take into town for dinner.   One cab driver tried to scam us and we ended up having to pay way more than we thought was fair--after we negotiated a round trip price he changed it to tell us it was that price each way.   The hotel told us we should have told them far in advance we needed a cab but how were we to know far in advance what time we would want to go into town?  It all worked out ok though.

I am giving them 5 stars but I want to comment that after I paid my deposit, I had a harder time getting in touch with someone at her office to ask questions.  A few times I emailed our agent several days would go by without a response.  I even tried calling and no one answered the phone and did not return my calls   I eventually did catch up with her and she apologized and said she was very busy.  In addition, I emailed her the day we left to ask her if we could add a friend to the private tours in Rome (we found out at the last minute an old friend would be in Rome the same day we would) and I never heard back from her.  But overall, I could not have planned this trip on my own and she really found unique experiences that we loved.  I would use them again.

Travel Review: Luxury Anniversary Italy Vacation, Rome, Florence, Siena, Chianti, Amalfi Coast, Capri Boat Tour, Cooking Class

My brothers and I asked our agent to plan a 50th Wedding Anniversary trip to Italy for our parents who had never been to Italy (or Europe, for that matter).  The trip was absolutely perfect.  Our parents are not big travelers, so we wanted them to be "hand held" a bit and our agent arranged just that.  They were picked up at the airport by a driver, so they did not have to worry about a taxi or finding their way to their hotel.  The trip was a 12 day trip starting out in Rome where they spent 4 days.  They stayed in a lovely boutique hotel (with a great location) with a fantastic roof top bar that was perfect setting for sharing a glass of processo while enjoying the views of this gorgeous city.  When they toured the Vatican, there were only 6 people in their party (including themselves).  They loved the small group size.  They were able to ask questions and hear everything the tour guide said.  We had a private driver take them for a day trip to the village where our father's dad came from.  Our agent was really able to personalize this trip for them.  From Rome, it was off to Florence where they stayed in another lovely hotel centrally located with amazing views of the city.  They also took a cooking class nearby and loved every minute of it.  They spent another day enjoying wine tasting in Siena and Chianti.  Every single excursion was well laid out and extremely well planned.  They ended their trip by spending 4 days on the Almafi coast taking another cooking class (just the two of them) and enjoying a private boat ride to the island of Capri.  It was definitely a trip of a lifetime and we were all pleased with the outcome.  I would highly recommend this agency to anyone who wants a trip tailored to meet all their needs and wants.

Luxury Italy Travel Review: Rome, Vatican tour, Ancient Rome Tour, Florence, Uffizi, Chianti Wine Tour, Siena, San Gimignano...

We had only a week to spend in Italy and since it was our first time in Italy we needed advice on how to best use our time. The suggested itinerary was ideal.

We had a wonderful free day in Rome our first day and our hotel was perfectly situated near the Coliseum. The tours we had in Rome were great, especially our tour of the Vatican Museum led by Simon. He did a wonderful job providing fascinating insights while keeping everyone on the tour - ranging from children to senior citizens - involved and interested.

It was great taking the train from Rome to Florence where we spent three days. Florence was beautiful despite some rainy weather. Our tours here were also good, especially the local guide in Siena who was enthusiastic as well as informative.

Italy Trip Review: Rome, Siena, Orvieto, Venice, Pienza, Vatican, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Vespa Tour, E-Bike Tour, 10 Nights

Our trip to Italy was amazing! The tours that were organized for us were all excellent and engaging.

The Vespa sidecar tour was an incredible way to kickstart the trip and our two teenage boys really enjoyed it. Our walking tours of the Vatican museums and the Colosseum and Roman Forum tours with our guide were excellent. We loved her. She was fantastic. Our tour of the crypts and catacombs was very interesting and the guide was very good.

The hotels were very nice and accommodating, especially in Rome and Venice. The car rental in Rome was good and the car was the perfect size for what we needed. It was just big enough to fit our luggage.

The hotel in Orvieto was a bit spartan and had plumbing issues. Our tour guide in Orvieto was also great. The hotel in Siena was very nice. Our tour guide in Siena was very nice, but we had some difficulty hearing her. She did explain things nicely and took us to some interesting locations around the city, but not being able to hear her was a little challenging. The e-bike tour in Montepulciano was incredible. The scenic landscapes and the visit to Pienza was a nice surprise.

Returning the car in Florence was very difficult and our only suggestion is that on the travel documents, the return address be included on the page of the event. We did not think to look back at the rental agreement. Driving in Florence is very difficult and can be overwhelming for some people.

The train station was organized and it was easy to locate the train. The train ride itself was very easy and fast.

Venice was outstanding. Our hotel was beautiful and comfortable, and the breakfast was incredible. Due to the difficulty we had in returning the car in Florence, our travel company was kind enough to buy us dinner at an wonderful restaurant in Venice, which was one of the highlights of the trip.

Our family had a wonderful experience and the trip was so well planned and organized. I will be using our travel company for future trips and, on behalf of my family, I would like to thank you for the time of our lives!

Review: Italy Graduation Trip, Florence, Venice, Rome, Siena, San Gimiagnano, Biking, Vespa City Tour, Culture, Adventure

Our travel agent did an excellent job helping me plan my trip to Italy.  All of the hotels were very nice, although in Venice the room was a bit small.  My son and I enjoyed all the activities planned by our travel agency.  The trip to Siena and San Gimignano was a bit rushed but nice.  All of the guides and transport personnel were great, especially the guide for the Vatican and they bicycle tour in Florence.  Some of people in Venice were a little rude but for the most part everyone was nice.  The vespa tour in Rome was bit nerve wracking but very exciting....we really enjoyed.
