Seemingly Known

Culture is the root of all things in Tuscany, emanating from the cobblestone streets and cast across the landscape in vineyards and cypress trees. The emerald hillsides are as much a part of people’s lives as the traditional prosciutto made from boar as well as the unparalleled frescoes decorating secluded churches in medieval villages. When you arrive at Florence International Airport, your private transfer greets you and welcomes you to Italy. Soon you settle into your luxurious accommodation in the heart of Florence’s historic center, where the truth in the cultural base of Tuscany comes to life.

The scent of fresh pastries blends with the savory aroma of simmering sauces. Olive groves grow outside of the city, and the Arno River separates the city center from Oltrarno, connected by a series of bridges; including the Ponte Vecchio, the Old Bridge, lined with goldsmiths and jewelers. Florence has a tangible energy and remains one of the most visited cities in the world. And yet it can maintain pockets of uncharted beauty, alongside the breathtaking art of Michelangelo and Botticelli. The narrow streets of the Oltrarno intertwine sophisticated artisan shops, woodwork and ceramics, and the distinctive traditional flavors of Tuscany. Settling into Florence is emblematic of the surrounding region, filled with endless beauty any way you turn your head.

Travel Review: Memorable Vacation to Italy, Florence, Tuscany, Siena, Antinori Winery Tour, Rome, Vatican Tour
Giuliana of this Italy travel company guided us every step of the way and created one of our most memorable vacations. The most impressive thing at the outset was how quickly she responded to our initial inquiry. We had never been to Italy, had not done a great deal of research, and had only a general idea of what we wanted beyond the dates (mid-May) and the cities we wanted to visit (Florence and Rome). Within a day, Giuliana submitted a detailed proposed itinerary based on a recent client request similar to ours. The proposal included various options that provided a great starting point for further discussion. She asked many questions, including our hotel preferences (small boutique, high-rise, how many stars, etc.) and suggested a number of venues that would expose us to Italy’s remarkable history and culture. The result was a vacation specifically suited to our personal tastes and interests. We spent four days in Florence and three in Rome. In Florence, we stayed at the Hotel Lungarno on the Arno River, a lovely small hotel in the heart of the city within walking distance to everything of interest, including the Uffizi and Academy museums, and the famous Duomo. It rained two nights, but we didn’t have far to go for a great dinner. The hotel restaurant was superb. One of the highlights of the Florence leg of the trip was a day tour of the Tuscany wine region that included a stopover in the historic town of Siena. We had lunch at the Osteria di Passignano, a restaurant at the Antinori vineyards where we were treated to a four course lunch and wine tasting and a tour of the winery. Fabulous. In Rome, we stayed at the Hotel Saint George. Another small, well appointed, boutique hotel, centrally located near the Tiber River, it provided access to all the essential venues, including the Vatican, Coliseum, Spanish Steps, etc. As in Florence, everything was in walking distance, including fine dining restaurants, pizzerias, espresso bars, and gelateria—and lots of places to shop. The hotel was comfortable, attractive, with a friendly and efficient staff, but we would not recommend the hotel restaurant. It was nice enough (although too brightly lit) but was virtually empty the night we were there and the food was just O.K. That wasn’t Giuliana’s fault since the hotel restaurant was not on her recommended list. We were just tired (it was our first night) and thought we’d give it a try. The hotel concierge made up for it, however, by recommending two great nearby restaurants for the remaining two nights. Neither was on Guiliana’s list, but they were terrific. A word about the logistical aspects of the trip: we viewed this as critical to the success of a customized tour with multiple venues and connections. We couldn’t have been more pleased. On arriving at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, we were greeted by Aldo who drove us to the high-speed train to Florence. After sharing an espresso with us in the station café, he made sure we got on the right train, helped us with our bags, and took us to our seats. Similar service greeted us at every connection point during the trip. Our personal tour guides, Enza (Florence), Andrea (Tuscany), and Sylvia (Rome), were exceptionally knowledgeable, personable, and fluent in English. Giuliana telephoned us at several points during the trip to confirm that we had arrived at our destination, that the drivers were on time, and that the accommodations met our expectations. Very reassuring to know she was keeping such close tabs on things. In short, all elements of transportation and personal service were impeccable. Would we visit Italy again? Without doubt. The trip simply whetted our appetites. Would we use this company? We wouldn’t consider any other service. Next time, however, we’ll make more of an effort to visit the restaurants recommended by Giuliana.

Italy Review, Tuscany & Umbria Vacation, Chianti, Perugia, Montefalco, Bevagne, Wine Tour
I am sorry to report this but as a customer of Zicasso I feel you should know when a travel agency does not live up to your standards. Both Mike, myself and our friends have used your referral company and have had great results. There were just too many things about this trip that were a huge disappointment.Train tickets issued to Mike & I were for two different train cars! Why would a premiere travel agent who knows we have never traveled this way put myself and my husband on a train in two completely different train cars! Thankfully the ticket handler was gracious enough to let us sit together. As a premiere travel agency we definitely should have been asked to if we would like to have premiere economy and definitely should have had tickets where we sat together.Location of Villas: While the Villa in Chianti and the hotel in Perugia were both wonderful places but very isolated. The places we were scheduled to travel to were all located a long ways away. We spent so much time in our van driving it was cause for a lot of stress. For example poor time management on scheduling: Florence - travel distance fine, tour guide great, no time at all to shop as driver was waiting to take us back. Pienza - a 2+ hour drive when we arrived the driver said he would need to take us to next stop in 20 minutes! That is not relaxing. We were then late to our lunch at the farm which they were not pleased but were very accommodating for us. Thank goodness she was such a doll. On to Montalcino but no, we had no time to visit this village because we had to be at a winery for a tour. Then a 2+ hour drive home only to have our other driver waiting to take us to dinner. Stress. Castello di Ami yet another long and windy road trip to go to two wineries. Which were nice but feel there were probably some closer that would have satisfied. Cortona was fun yet another long day in the van. The hotel in Perugia seemed so relaxing but we never had time to spend there. Next day another 1.5+ hr. drive to a winery and 2 villages one Montefalco was fun to walk around, when we arrived at the village of Bevagne it was literally a ghost town no shops were open nothing. This might have been due to August holiday but the Travel agent should be aware of these things. It was a waste of time. Restaurants suggested: a Chianti restaurant was cute and nice to have when you are tired from traveling. The Tuscany restaurant was lovely, 25 minute drive just fine and we had a great meal. The other restaurants in this area that were suggested were too far away 45 min.+ after being in a car all day - again travel agent should be cognizant of this itinerary. We found a fun castle 5 min. drive away and had a great meal. After traveling all day to get to our hotel in Perugia we were not up for traveling yet again to a restaurant but there was nothing close by and this restaurant was to be on Lake Trasimeno so we decided to go. It was awful no view of the lake the wait staff forgot our order and food was sub par. ugh The next night we ate pizza at the resort! Transportation: We were to have English speaking drivers every day. We had 2 the rest of them spoke very little English in fact the last one driver spoke no English we had him for 2 days. Luckily he was so sweet that he downloaded a translate app and I sat in the front seat so we could "talk" to him.

Review: Luxury Anniversary Trip to Italy, Rome, Florence, Venice, Tuscany, Siena, Positano, Capri Boat Tour, Sisitine Chapel, Opera

My husband and I wanted to plan a special vacation for our 50th anniversary and we decided on Italy. The planning was up to me and I had no idea where to start because I have never been to Italy. I began a search on the internet "How to plan a trip to Italy?" and many sites came up, but one site was very efficient, this company,  and they set me up with a Travel Specialist right away who was extremely knowledgeable and understood our needs for the trip. She planned a wonderful trip to Rome with a stay at ta hotel which as in walking distance to many sites. She assigned us a private tour guide and driver who picked us up in the morning and showed us the popular tourist sites. From there we took a train to Naples where a private driver pick us up and brought to Pompeii where a tour guide was waiting to show us the ruins. The driver came  back for us and drove us to Positano. We stayed at a lovely boutique hotel with a terrace overlooking the sea. The hotel was amazing, it was so much fun walking through the seaside village-the food and shopping was wonderful. Our travel specialist also included a trip to the island of Capri with our own private skipper where we had a lunch provided by the travel company. We totally enjoyed Positano and would definitively return there in the future. From there went to Florence at stayed at another beautiful boutique hotel where we had a beautiful room overlooking the Arno River. We had a great tour guide who walked us through many beautiful historical sights. We saw the opera Carmine on our own. This city was also amazing! Then to Tuscany to another outrageous hotel. The room and the views were spectacular. there we went on wine tasting tours and sighting seeing in Sienna-fantastic food and wine-we even had tour guide with a PhD in history. Totally magical! From there we took a train to Venice where we took a boat to our hotel which was magnificent overlooking the canals and market place-there we toured beautiful Cathedrals, glass blowing, a Gondola ride provided by the travel company. This was a trip of a lifetime and our travel adviser was in contact with us throughout the trip to make sure everything was perfect. We cannot thank her enough for the magnificent trip she designed for us. We would highly recommend this company for travel planning. You will not be disappointed!

Review: Luxury Italy Family Vacation, Rome, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Chianti, Verona, Milan

My husband and I, along with our 2 children (age 20 and 17), enjoyed a wonderful Italian vacation booked through Zicasso and this travel agency.  Our travel consultants listened to my ideas and arranged for us a fantastic custom itinerary.   They stayed within the budget allotted, offered choices for beautiful hotels and private tours, and made several revisions as per our request.  We departed from New York on our 25th anniversary, and spent 10 days traveling the country within the month of November.  This off-season time proved to be a great decision as reservations were easy to obtain, crowds were minimal (mostly all locals), and the weather was conducive for walking and sightseeing (average 60 degrees F).  Transportation and the personal drivers were top notch; with Mercedes SUVs or minivans to take my family from Milan-Chianti-Florence-Verona-Venice and then the high speed train down to Rome.  Accommodations arranged for us were phenomenal!  We stayed in a 12th century castle in Chianti, in the heart of the city center in Florence, and near the Spanish Steps in Rome.  The personal tour guides were friendly and knowledgable, and were happy to recommend eateries preferred by locals.  All in all, everything was flawless. We plan to return some day to see the Amalfi coast, Positano and Capri.  We would absolutely recommend these travel consultants, and the travel company team to anyone who is looking for a personalized Italian vacation.

Travel Review: Luxury Anniversary Italy Vacation, Rome, Florence, Siena, Chianti, Amalfi Coast, Capri Boat Tour, Cooking Class

My brothers and I asked our agent to plan a 50th Wedding Anniversary trip to Italy for our parents who had never been to Italy (or Europe, for that matter).  The trip was absolutely perfect.  Our parents are not big travelers, so we wanted them to be "hand held" a bit and our agent arranged just that.  They were picked up at the airport by a driver, so they did not have to worry about a taxi or finding their way to their hotel.  The trip was a 12 day trip starting out in Rome where they spent 4 days.  They stayed in a lovely boutique hotel (with a great location) with a fantastic roof top bar that was perfect setting for sharing a glass of processo while enjoying the views of this gorgeous city.  When they toured the Vatican, there were only 6 people in their party (including themselves).  They loved the small group size.  They were able to ask questions and hear everything the tour guide said.  We had a private driver take them for a day trip to the village where our father's dad came from.  Our agent was really able to personalize this trip for them.  From Rome, it was off to Florence where they stayed in another lovely hotel centrally located with amazing views of the city.  They also took a cooking class nearby and loved every minute of it.  They spent another day enjoying wine tasting in Siena and Chianti.  Every single excursion was well laid out and extremely well planned.  They ended their trip by spending 4 days on the Almafi coast taking another cooking class (just the two of them) and enjoying a private boat ride to the island of Capri.  It was definitely a trip of a lifetime and we were all pleased with the outcome.  I would highly recommend this agency to anyone who wants a trip tailored to meet all their needs and wants.

Travel Review: Italy Tour, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Sorrento, Capri, Naples, Pompeii, San Gimignano, Verona, Cooking Lesson

From the beginning stages of planning our trip to Italy with this travel agency (and specifically our travel planner) we knew we were going enjoy this trip of a lifetime.  All we needed to do was provide our budget and "wish list" and he worked his considerable magic from there! We ultimately visited Venice, Tuscany, Sorrento and Naples, enjoying everything from a haunted city tour of Venice at night, a private cooking class in Sorrento, exploring several cities in Tuscany via the use of our rental car, visiting Pompeii and attending several other small walking/boat tours in each of the locations. Our lodging included a present day working vineyard which was converted from a 17th century monastery and hotels stays in which we felt as if we had stepped out of our lives and into those of the "rich and famous"; absolute opulence!  And, as if that wasn't enough, the tour guides, hotel staff, private driver; they all deserve to be recognized for their individual love and knowledge of their city, warmth, good nature and professionalism. So much so that when the weather turned cold on our return from the island of Capri, the boat captain handed out his personal jackets and blankets to all on board!  Every site we visited and tour we attended was so very well planned and so very worth the time.  We were made to feel as if our agent planned our trip more as if he were doing so for family than clients. ..I can't imagine a better experience!
