Rome - Open Treasures
Welcome to the sparkling jewel of Rome, the “Eternal City,” filled with a mixture of ancient ruins and modern luxuries, and where neo-classical buildings are as prominent as the antique stones where politicians once used and where they continue to roam. You will be met by a private transfer at the airport and taken to the city center where your gorgeous accommodation awaits you with an arrival cocktail, a perfect welcome to the cobblestone streets and marvelous views. The city palpitates with energy from eager commuters, lively piazzas, and effervescent history. In the afternoon you will have a short, guided walk through the historical center where the heart of the city lies.
At the edge of the ancient city you will find the imposing Colosseum, the remaining titan of gladiator games that was once filled with roaring fans, gruesome battles, and mesmerizing scenes. The rotund amphitheater is no less tremendous today than it must have been thousands of years ago, rising over the open square next to the Forum. People encircle the architectural marvel that ascends into the sky with arched entryways that have held their structural integrity for almost two millennia, beginning with their construction in 70 AD. The excitement over the Colosseum has not waned, and you can feel the sensational beat of the past come to life all around you in the open city.

Detailed Description
There is no shortage of hidden jewels within the Italian countryside, all concealed within the shadows of cities such as Florence, Venice, and Rome. On this 15-day journey through Italy you will explore and discover the marvelous treasures of the Italian landscape, ranging from forgotten medieval villages to luxurious flavors masked by the forest floor, such as the decadent black truffle. This is your opportunity to collect the gems often overlooked by others, where culture continues to thrive, the scenery continues to sparkle, and the history is displayed within the towns’ architecture as much as in the art.
Your discovery begins in Rome where you will be welcomed into the sweet life of the city and of Italy. A short, guided tour will take you through the historic center of the Eternal City, showcasing the famous ruins that continue to inspire visitors from around the world. The following day you will venture into the Heart of Italy, Umbria, visit the astonishing waterfalls of Valnerina, witness the narrow staircase and impressive fortress of Spoleto, and taste the delectable black truffles of the region. You will walk through the magical olive groves and vineyards around Spello, a town known for its pink stone, and dine with the accompaniment of the celebrated Sangratino wine in Montefalco. Continue on to enjoy the ascending hillside city of Assisi, home to St. Francis. In Bevagna and Deruta you will witness the age-old artisans that continue to make paper and textiles in accordance with tradition, while Perugia showcases a university town that dates back to the Middle Ages.
Arrive in Urbino after a sensational tasting of white truffles at the National Center of Truffle Cultivation. The city is a spectacle dedicated to the Renaissance, from its architecture to its history, and its ancient famous residence. The Montefeltro Castles are as magnificent in their grandeur as they are in their saga. Gradara was known as the home of Paolo and Francesca, chronicled by the lyrical poet Dante Alighieri, while San Leo sits atop a summit that rises impressively over the valley below. Find yourself in the Emilia Romagna region where you will discover Il Casentino, forested land speckled with castles and an artistic spirit; the monasteries are filled with pious architecture in superb locations, and boasting interesting pasts.
The city of Ravenna is known for tagliatelle and tortellini pasta, Byzantine mosaics that sparkle gold, and even Dante Alighieri’s tomb. The architecture of Parma is filled with marvelous color and the theaters are symbolic of Verdi’s music; the entire city is full of dedicated fans of opulent concerts. The following day you will meander through Food Valley, taking the opportunity to cherish Reggiano Parmesan cheese and Parma ham before arriving in Lucca, located in Tuscany. From Lucca you will find the unique exquisiteness of Cinque Terre, the five towns located along a single trail running beside the coastline of the Italian Riviera. In the Field of Miracles, found in Pisa, you will witness the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the magnificent cathedral. Wander through the medieval stones of Siena where the Duomo’s facade is as fantastic as the mosaics of the interior. In Val d’Orcia you will find the flavorful lives of Montalcino and Montepulciano, known for the towns’ stunning walls, great palaces, and fabulous wines. Pienza maintains a spectacular main square that overlooks the sprawling valley. You will return to Rome with the day at your leisure to experience the surprises of the city before returning home with all the treasures that you collected along the way.

I was connected with the travel company through Zicasso. What an amazing trip! Many thanks to our travel designer of the travel company!!!
Our travel designer and her expert team planned a trip to Sicily for my husband and I, my siblings, and my sister-in-law. We were six and everything about the trip was executed beautifully and with great attention to every detail.
We chose to go to Taormina, Cefalù, Palermo, and Ortigia Island, flying direct in and out of Catania. Our travel designer arranged all transfers by private van for the six of us and we never had to worry where or when we were going anywhere. She was able to make changes on the spot and accommodate our every wish.
Planning the trip was so easy, as she was available to chat with me on the weekends to answer questions and clarify details. She even made dinner reservations in every city. I cannot say enough about her willingness to be available and the choices she helped us make. From the terrific winery near Mount Etna to a drive up Etna, guided tours (we had an incredibly fabulous art historian showing us the churches of Palermo), a day at leisure on the beaches of Cefalù, and an amazing cooking class in Palermo, where we learned about and visited the markets, and made pasta and cannoli, every experience was better than the one before it.
We definitely recommend, with five stars, the travel company. Have them plan your trip to Italy! This was my first time back to Europe since 2004 and it was stellar!
I surely will use this company when I plan new trips to Italy, and Zicasso as well!
When we were trying to decide where to go, we chatted with travel partners in several European destinations. Zicasso chooses the best of the best and our experiences with each of them was exceptional!
We will be back to Zicasso when we travel to other destinations!!

Zicasso's travel agency far exceeded our expectations. We had our five-year-old and 11-year-old children with us, so the tour guides and walking needed to be kid-friendly.
Our hotel in Rome was wonderful, the location was perfect, and they had good A/C and a breakfast buffet. There were plenty of great restaurants within easy walking distance, as well as the Vatican.
Our tour guide for the Colosseum and Roman Forum was great. Pompeii was amazing. Our tour guide was basically a celebrity down there and knew exactly how to take us around the ruins without ever waiting.
Tuscany was our favorite by far. We did a cheese-making experience and lunch that was super-cool. The kids got to play with the farm animals and the owners were so attentive and interesting. We did a cooking class with a chef that was the kids' favorite thing on the entire trip. I would make a point to book this experience; the kids still talk about it and wear the aprons around the house. The resort in Tuscany was nice. We had our own private pool, plus the resort pool, and could easily walk to a small local town with some great food.
Venice was good, but probably our least favorite on the trip. You have to walk a ton, which was difficult for the kids, but it's still worth experiencing.
We travel a bunch and I would highly recommend using Zicasso's travel partner.

My first solo trip was something I had dreamed about for years. I wanted it to be more than sightseeing. I wanted adventure, comfort, safety, and freedom without the stress of planning it all alone. Through Zicasso, I was connected to two specialists and Zicasso's travel consultant stood out immediately. She delivered an itinerary that gave me everything I asked for and more: maximum cities, maximum fun, and maximum value, all without compromise.
Before deciding, I researched and compared tours, packages, and individual prices online. The travel consultant’s proposal came out on top for value and content. While the other agent offered fewer cities and activities at a higher price, her plan was ambitious without being overwhelming. She booked my trains, arranged private transfers where needed, and selected boutique-style hotels that exceeded expectations. I was honestly surprised at how good they were. I stayed at hotels in Interlaken, Florence, and Sorrento. Each was clean, comfortable, and perfectly located for exploring. I had prepared myself for budget trade-offs, but instead, I found thoughtfully chosen hotels that balanced affordability with real quality.
Every document, train ticket, and activity confirmation was uploaded into the app. It became my lifeline throughout the trip, with every detail at my fingertips. The structure gave me confidence, while still leaving me free to explore.
Switzerland came first: Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, and Zermatt. Each city felt like stepping into a postcard. Interlaken gave me the adrenaline rush of skydiving, while Zermatt charmed me with its close-knit magic and alpine beauty. Italy unfolded with equal ease: Lake Como, Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Amalfi, and Rome. Every destination felt curated, yet natural, from gondola rides in Venice to boat tours on the Amalfi Coast.
What I loved most was the balance between structure and freedom. Pre-booked activities and restaurant reservations gave me a strong framework, but I could just as easily decide to spend an afternoon wandering Florence, eating gelato, or sitting in a piazza. The rhythm of the trip was perfect, structured enough to tick off bucket-list highlights, yet relaxed enough to feel like a real vacation.
Food was freestyle, but memorable. Highlights included a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant in Zurich with its elegant Japanese-Peruvian flavors, a different Japanese restaurant, a restaurant in Como with its modern fusion menu, an Indian restaurant for comforting classics, and international favorites like those in one of the restaurants in Rome. Between those meals and plenty of gelato and crepes, every stop added its own flavor to the journey.
As a solo traveler, safety mattered. I felt comfortable walking around in the evenings and was usually back in my hotel by 1am to stay rested for the next day. What really gave me peace of mind was the travel consultant’s constant support. Communication was fast and responsive. I never had to wait long for answers, whether through the app or email. There was a moment when I made a mistake with the trains and missed an activity. She immediately stepped in and worked to reschedule it or secure a refund that same day.
Earlier in the planning process, I also had a card issue due to an address error. Even though policy would not normally allow it, she and her team patiently waited until I received the refund before finalizing the booking, just weeks before my trip. That flexibility and care spoke volumes.
The difference was clear. She used my budget to its fullest potential, giving me more destinations, more experiences, and better hotels than the alternative option. She managed to combine the efficiency of a fully organized tour with the freedom of independent travel. Everything was planned, yet everything was still mine to shape.
This trip was everything I wanted: good food, beautiful views, safety, and absolute reliability. It was an organized journey with freestyle flexibility, which is exactly what solo travelers dream of. The travel consultant’s planning let me chase adventure while always knowing I had a safety net. Switzerland and Italy gave me memories I will never forget, but it was the behind-the-scenes planning that made it possible. If you want a trip that is your way, your budget, your pace, but without the endless hassle of managing it yourself, the travel consultant at this agency is the person who can make it happen. My first solo trip became my dream trip and that is the highest praise I can give.

Our trip was very well planned. All the guides we had were very good. Three of them were outstanding. Our guides in Ravenna and Bologna, Cinque Terre and Lake Como were outstanding. We had wonderful tours of a prosciutto factory and a Parmesan factory.
All of our hotels were great.
We had several drivers and they were all very good.
Our Zicasso travel agent made reservations for us at a couple of restaurants she recommended and they were both great choices. We can't say enough good things about the job she did for us.

We had a fantastic experience for a first-time trip to Italy. I wasn't sure how this would be, considering I learned about Zicasso while trying to plan the trip myself. Zicasso put me in touch with a travel specialist and the whole team was incredibly responsive to my many, many questions. If they were ever annoyed, it didn’t show.
I really wanted a smooth experience for my family of five, including three teens, one of whom has Celiac. Our agent was great in helping plan out the experience we wanted. As you may know, it is challenging to find rooms for five in Europe, but the travel company found apartments (usually two bedrooms with a pull-out couch) in the heart of town. You can really customize what you do, but we elected to plan our own meals and handle some of our own transport. We did have one issue where the van driver taking us to the train failed to show. I got one with Uber and the travel company quickly (I mean before we got home quickly!) refunded that amount.
Our contact in Italy was amazing and patient. I can’t give her enough credit. Any time I was unsure of something, she was there. The tours were great, especially Florence and Rome. You may be able to find the companies online, but ours seems to have the connections to get the best guides.
As for meals, we didn’t have any issues. We used an app and got a few recommendations from the travel company and local guides. Even our wine-tasting tour out in Tuscany was accommodating.
I would use our travel company and Zicasso again. I think the only downside is we tried to cram a lot in and it was hot. I probably should have asked for one to two fewer or shorter walking tours, especially on days we switched cities. Otherwise, it was excellent.
