Savelletri di Fasano – A Different View of Italy

The Adriatic coastline shimmers with turquoise hues and white sands. Olive groves and vineyards spread across the flatlands reaching the edges of the sea. Woodlands shade the edges of the Murge Plateau, crowning the lowlands with limestone ridges overlooking the hidden coves. Your flight lands at Bari Karol Wojtyla Airport. Your private transfer greets you upon your arrival and escorts you to a gorgeous resort near the gentle waters of the Adriatic Sea. The semi-sweet aroma of the water harmoniously blends with the herbaceous scent emanating from the olive trees. Small fishing boats wade in the sea near the village of Savelletri.

The bright colors along the boats and houses recall days of superstition and familiarity. The brightness continues to bring the fishermen daily luck on the water with their boats and guide them back to the shore when viewing their shimmering home from the sea. The nearby town of Fasano glistens with whitewashed homes along the golden cobbled lanes. Historical churches and remnants of tower walls overlook the narrow, hidden alleys. You bask in the comforts of your resort, located at the heart of Italy’s Puglia region. The structure dates back to the 15th century and was originally used as a watchtower for the Knights of Malta. Your magnificent suite overlooks the glistening sea and white sands. You can hear the waves lapping against the rocks.

Italy Vacation Review: Abruzzo, Puglia, Alberobello, Matera, L'Aquila, Pescara, Castle of Rocca Calascio, Cooking Class, 13 Nights

Overall, our group of nine people had an amazing experience. We visited the regions of Abruzzo and Puglia, and both are stunningly beautiful. We had an awesome "cooking-with-nonna" experience in a real trulli house in Alberobello—highly recommended!!

We stayed in some beautiful B&Bs (historic homes) and the owners/staff and breakfast spread were amazing in all of them. We saw so many beautiful medieval towns (Matera was jaw-dropping!) and had so many great, once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

The only thing I'd recommend is to ensure you have a communication plan with your tour agent and private drivers. For example, when we arrived to our initial B&B in L'Aquila, it was dark/locked and no one was there. Apparently, our arrival time was not communicated to the B&B staff (which was a bit frustrating). Also, you should definitely expect to use a translation app to communicate with your private drivers and to ask drivers to communicate daily plans so everyone is on the same page. Other than a few small hiccups, the trip was great. We'd definitely use this group again.

Italy Travel Review: Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Alberobello, Lecce, Grottos, History, 16-Day Tour

First off, Zicasso's travel designer was on point! She answered any of our questions before the trip and during the trip.

Let me go hotel by hotel:

Our hotel in Sorrento: The people who worked there were very nice. Our room was next to where the maids had their supplies, and they would loudly chat outside our room while they got their things together for the workday. It's on us to have requested a different room. It was a minor annoyance.

Our hotel in Capri: It was so clean! The owner/manager could not have been kinder, as were all of his staff. I would recommend this to anyone!

Our hotel in Bari: It was clean, but it was too long in gritty, dirty, downtown Bari for four days.

Our hotel in Alberobello: It was so charming, so clean, and a great place!

Our hotel in Lecce: The complimentary earplugs should have been a tip-off. This historical venue is exquisite, but the parties go on till the wee hours of the morning. IT was so loud! It was impossible to sleep! Yet the front desk kept all the lights on for us when we left at 3:30 in the morning; they could not have been kinder!

Italy Travel Review: Turin, Rome, Puglia, Florence, Food Tour, Winery, Museums, History, Art, Culture, 2 Weeks

Zicasso's travel specialist asked for our interests, to which we replied history, art, food, and wine. When queried about accommodations, our preferences were that they have character and be varied. Our expectations were exceeded.

We were two couples who had a spectacular survey trip of Italy. Our agent addressed our request for history by arranging private tours with expert guides. We visited multiple eras: ancient times at the Egyptian Museum in Turin and the Colosseum in Rome; medieval times at the Medici palazzos; Byzantine times with views of the frescoes in Puglia; and modern history during a delightful food tour of Turin that featured historical cafés renowned for their political meetings and plotting.

We indulged in a smorgasbord of art and history, as it is readily available wherever you journey in Italy. The guides and drivers were knowledgeable, pointing out treasures in the palazzos, the Vatican, the public squares, cafés, the cathedrals, and churches. Food tours featured cheese, capicola and truffle tasting. Multiple types of wines and vineyards were sampled, the settings varied and the offerings enjoyed.

Accommodations could not have been better chosen. We enjoyed staying at a converted fortified monastery and a historic 16th-century palace. We appreciated the sunset over Turin from the upper deck of the hotel and enjoyed hidden privacy in Rome in our suites.

During the trip, our guide shepherded this complex trip and promptly addressed any issues that occurred (delayed trains and coordinating tour guides). Unequivocally, each tour was unique and well picked by our agent. We strongly recommend this agency to help you have a fantastic trip to Italy!

Italy Travel Review: Rome, Ravello, Amalfi Coast, Positano, Sorrento, Naples, Pompeii, Capri, Mount Vesuvius, Cooking Class, Local Cuisine, 20 Days

My husband and I were thrilled with our recent trip to Italy that Zicasso’s travel designer put together. We began by attending a family friend’s wedding, held in Ravello, on the Amalfi Coast. Due to my husband’s mobility issues, we were met by a driver and headed to the Amalfi Coast. The driver was first class and the trip was very comfortable.

After the wedding festivities, we were able to have the most wonderful experiences visiting the towns of Amalfi and Positano, and our base for one week was in beautiful Sorrento. We attended a cooking class and enjoyed eating what we prepared. We had in-depth learning opportunities in Naples and Sorrento. Every guide we had spoke excellent English and was so knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed Pompeii! A super-fun day was had on the small group tour of Capri. The crew was fantastic and very accommodating in consideration of my husband’s mobility issues.

From beginning to end everything went well. The use of a messaging app was great for making sure everyone was on the same page.

The only thing that was a disappointment was the pizza in Naples. It wasn’t the best.

The hotel in Sorrento was phenomenal - it couldn’t have been better. The view of Mt. Vesuvius from our balcony helped create memories we will have forever. The hotel in Rome was also very nice. It was right in the middle of the main attractions.

We are very happy with our experience with this travel company and would not hesitate to recommend it!

Italy Trip Review: Puglia, Ostuni, Bari, Lecce, Alberobello, Altamura, Jewish Museum, Cooking Class, Cheese Making, Bread Making, Abbey Visit, 10 Nights

Our trip to Puglia was fabulous. The accommodations at each hotel were very good. The staff at the hotels in Ostuni and Bari were exceptional.

All the drivers were timely and professional.

We think our favorite town was Lecce. It was very easy to walk the town at any time of day and did not feel touristy. Our guide was amazing with her historical and architectural knowledge. We explored magnificent cathedrals and the Jewish museum.

Of course, we loved our cooking class with our chef, making pasta and focaccia at her restaurant.

The afternoon at a historic abbey was exceptional. Our guide was the most knowledgeable individual, sharing the religious aspect and its historical timeline at the farmhouse. His explanation of how frescoes were transferred and saved was impressive. Our catered lunch was perfect.

How fun was the Ape Calessino tuk-tuk ride in Ostuni? The driver was exceptional and took us everywhere, finding great photographic opportunities.

We found an authentic craftsperson in Alberobello; a small shop with a loom from 1568. The woman was a third-generation operator. We would have liked to visit the museum.

A highlight was the "masseria," making pasta, and participating in making burrata cheese. It was truly an authentic experience.

The local bread laboratory in Altamura was simply outstanding. We made bread with a master baker (87 years old), who taught us how to make delicious orecchiette pasta.

We also practiced folding the bread and sliding it into the oven. How fun is that?!

We have used Zicasso for seven trips and have never been disappointed. We were extremely pleased with the travel company.

Austria, Slovenia, Italy Travel Review: Bled, Lake Bohinj, Ljubljana, Capri, Amalfi Coast, Vienna, Private Boat Ride, Hike Path of Gods, 16-Day Trip

Hello there.

This was our fourth trip with Zicasso. We would consider this trip more of a tour not a curated travel experience. Felt more like tourists than travelers.

Not sure if we received great value working with an extra layer of operators.

Although we would rate logistics and client interaction 10/10 (staff of the travel company were very lovely and professional) not sure there were any great special "treasures" other tourists wouldn't have seen.

Additionally, the descriptions of expectations were way off on a few occasions and totally touristy when local staff suggested alternatives that were what we expected in the first place.

Examples of this were firstly in Bled, Slovenia.

No guide was necessary and we spent a lot of money unnecessarily. It was touristy and should have been a suggested quick stop. The much better choice was a lovely 20-minute drive away (we had our own car at this point) to Lake Bohinj.

Our very sweet bellman in Ljubljana suggested we visit here. It wasn't crowded and spectacular. We would have had a picnic packed for the day and enjoyed the hike here.

Another example is Capri. It was described by the travel company as beginning with an easy motorboat ride with a group (which was fine) a leisurely half-day on the island with shopping and lunch in a romantic cafe.

This was life in Capri maybe 30 years ago. Today it is a shoulder-to-shoulder nightmare.

We were greeted by a guide who informed us that this day was like Formula One. Every second counts! Don't be late for anything!

What anything we thought? Isn't today about just a romantic lunch and leisurely shopping?

We were loaded onto a ferry with 400 people (everyone seemingly much more informed about what lay ahead), then shown cue cards for where to meet and when.

Confused, we were then loaded onto a bus and off to the Grotto. What is the Grotto?

Thankfully my husband and I are good sports and went with the flow. We were ushered into yet another line and lay down flat in a rowboat and ventured through the cave. Although an adventure, the point is we were not informed of this. Next was the chairlift up the mountain. Beautiful. Yes, but more unexpected lines and waiting.

Group lunch next.

Crowded funicular ride down and another 398 people on the ferry home.

No romantic lunch and leisurely shopping for us.

It was all fine in the end. Our guide was excellent. But, you see my point. The travel company needed to explain this. I do believe I suggested Capri as part of our itinerary, but the expectation was as to how it was presented by the travel company. We would have either skipped this and chosen a different way to spend a beautiful day on the Amalfi Coast or been better prepared.

Our hotel in the in Vienna was lovely in an excellent location. The restaurant however was only open for breakfast. Very disappointing. When traveling we like to have the option of having dinner in the hotel and a nice drink in the bar after a day of discovering or a nightcap before bed. All said, in Vienna it felt like we had only a partial home base. Not a great beginning to the trip.
