Rome is a city that has reinvented itself throughout the millennia, decorated with its lavish history laden in the open streets and mesmeric museums. Cobblestone streets lead to hidden piazzas filled with orange trees. Small restaurants cast an enticing aroma of freshly baked pizza to the air. Fountains trickle with water in the warm afternoon breeze, adding refreshing moisture to the air.

You arrive at the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport where one of our travel agents for Italy has arranged a private transfer to meet you. The entire family is excited, immediately enchanted by the ancient look of the cityscape. You find the elegance of your luxurious hotel comforting after the flight. You can see the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica towering over the nearby rooftops. The edges of Castel Sant’Angelo linger over the banks of the River Tiber. Detailed Description

Tours to Italy are always an adventure. The Old World mixes with the new, spotlighting rich traditions and lavish architecture, majestic mythologies, and breathtaking artwork. Your 9-day family vacation tour to Rome, Tuscany, and Venice takes you through a timeless exploration of cobblestone streets and ancient columns. Learn to make pasta a family tradition from a traditional family farm. Savor an unparalleled view of the Grand Canal from your hotel and bask in a private tour of the Vatican Museum. Italy will bring the family closer together in its splendor, where every day is sure to be unforgettable.

The family vacation begins with your arrival in Rome. Your private transfer meets you at the airport ready to whisk you away to your luxurious hotel near Vatican City. The family can settle in the city with dinner and their first official taste of Italy. The following day your private guide meets you at the hotel and leads you through historic piazzas and lavish streets of the city until lunch. After your meal, you are treated to a VIP tour of the Colosseum, taking you through the ins and outs of the historic Roman edifice.

On your third day, your guide will take the family around St. Peter’s Basilica and traverse the cylindrical walls of Castel Sant’Angelo. You continue into the Vatican Museum for an After-Hours Tour, where those allowed entrance to the museum are few, making it so you can hear your feet shuffle across the marble floor.

The following day your private transfer escorts you out of Rome and into Umbria and the cliff-top town of Orvieto. Enjoy lunch on an Italian estate and settle into the Tuscan countryside before your elaborate Tuscan inspired dinner.

You make your way into the Tuscan hills to visit a local farm near the medieval town of San Gimignano. Your private chef teaches the family how to make traditional regional pasta, followed by a nearby winery tour where the adults can sample the beautiful flavors, and the kids can explore the tastes of locally produced olive oil. The kids delight in the evening dinner set in a medieval castle.

In Florence, the family explores the treasures of the city. Your guide leads you through the historic streets, from the Duomo to the Accademia, before your private tour of the Palazzo Vecchio. The secret passages capture the kids’ imaginations.

Set out on a bullet train to Venice where your private gondolier meets you on the banks of the Grand Canal. Travel under the Rialto Bridge before your tour of Piazza San Marco and the world famous Basilica. The next day your guide leads you through the sensational history of the Doge’s Palace, inspiring the kids with adventurous activities along the way. After your tour, you have a private, hands-on workshop to create a unique Carnevale mask before a celebratory dinner. After your final breakfast in Venice, your private transfer meets the family at the hotel and escorts you to the airport for your flight home.

Italy Trip Review: Rome, Siena, Orvieto, Venice, Pienza, Vatican, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Vespa Tour, E-Bike Tour, 10 Nights

Our trip to Italy was amazing! The tours that were organized for us were all excellent and engaging.

The Vespa sidecar tour was an incredible way to kickstart the trip and our two teenage boys really enjoyed it. Our walking tours of the Vatican museums and the Colosseum and Roman Forum tours with our guide were excellent. We loved her. She was fantastic. Our tour of the crypts and catacombs was very interesting and the guide was very good.

The hotels were very nice and accommodating, especially in Rome and Venice. The car rental in Rome was good and the car was the perfect size for what we needed. It was just big enough to fit our luggage.

The hotel in Orvieto was a bit spartan and had plumbing issues. Our tour guide in Orvieto was also great. The hotel in Siena was very nice. Our tour guide in Siena was very nice, but we had some difficulty hearing her. She did explain things nicely and took us to some interesting locations around the city, but not being able to hear her was a little challenging. The e-bike tour in Montepulciano was incredible. The scenic landscapes and the visit to Pienza was a nice surprise.

Returning the car in Florence was very difficult and our only suggestion is that on the travel documents, the return address be included on the page of the event. We did not think to look back at the rental agreement. Driving in Florence is very difficult and can be overwhelming for some people.

The train station was organized and it was easy to locate the train. The train ride itself was very easy and fast.

Venice was outstanding. Our hotel was beautiful and comfortable, and the breakfast was incredible. Due to the difficulty we had in returning the car in Florence, our travel company was kind enough to buy us dinner at an wonderful restaurant in Venice, which was one of the highlights of the trip.

Our family had a wonderful experience and the trip was so well planned and organized. I will be using our travel company for future trips and, on behalf of my family, I would like to thank you for the time of our lives!

Italy Trip Review: Rome, Florence, Venice, Pompeii, Tuscany, Private Tour, Vatican, Colosseum, Cooking Class, Organic Farm, Cheese Making, 8 Nights

Overall, this may be too much, but we were happy to have written it down as it allowed us to relive the experience. This was a wonderful trip and we absolutely recommend Zicasso and our travel agent. We are already thinking about our next adventure in Italy. Here are the details...

Planning: Zicasso’s travel agent did a wonderful job of helping us plan a trip, making adjustments and ensuring the adventure turned out perfectly. We interviewed several approaches to planning the trip and our choice with Zicasso’s tour company was the right one for us. The trip app was great and kept everything right at our fingertips. We will definitely reach out to this travel agent when we return to Italy.

Food: How is it that when we stopped on the highway to Florence for a coffee, the food was as good as any high-end restaurant in the United States—organic, fresh, and tasty. One of our crew is gluten sensitive in the United States… in Italy, it’s not the gluten, it’s the chemicals used in the United States. We ate bread at every meal and had no problems. We learned that more simple fare is better fare and just amazing. No need for exotic tasting of cheese, bread, wine, pasta, salad, olive oil, vinegar, with fresh vegetables in the sauce, is all one ever needs… until the gelato at least twice a day.

Logistics: The logistics were great and absolutely essential for first-time travelers. There were guides and drivers to meet us at every stop. They seemed to know what we looked like and were just so very helpful.

Guides: Great choices across the board! Their knowledge and love of their various cities was detailed and charming. It was clear that each city fancies itself as the origin of culture and much more. We loved the perspectives and personalities of the people, and of our guides in Rome, Florence, the Tuscan farm, Venice, the Venice water tour, and Pompeii.

Drivers: Our three drivers, especially the one who got stuck with us on the way to Florence due to an auto accident. He really had an extended day and we really appreciated his patience. We got to know him a little and he was delightful.

Travel by train: It was so easy, fast, and comfortable. We loved the time together and the scenery. The added benefit of the lounge made a big difference from the busyness of the train station. We loved this, all at 300 km/h!

Hotels: The hotels were exactly as described—centrally located, convenient, and very comfortable.

Rome: The best beds and staff!

Florence: The best location—convenient to shops/cafés and breakfast.

Venice: Great location, with window views of the canals; it was very nice, but a bit dated in decor in the lobby. We would still stay there next trip!

Planning and sites visited: Overall, each of the cities and sites were outstanding. They gave us a great insight into Italy as a country, as well as its culture and people. Everyone we engaged with (including hotel staff, restaurants, and locals) was friendly, helpful, and engaging. The pervasiveness of English speakers was incredible. Our single-language approach is something we need to work on in the United States! We always felt safe and well taken care of. The added benefit of this support was that it allowed all of us to focus on the city and countrysides, not the driving. It may cost a bit more, but we felt it was totally worth it.

Roma: Here is the only mistake we made in planning our trip. Doing the Vatican and ruins/Colosseum in the same day is too much. This was clearly our decision and our travel agent suggested that it was “a lot.” Having said that, the pre-purchase and guide is clearly the way to go in whatever city you visit. The three sites are incredible.

Pompeii: We thought this would be neat to see, but not as amazing as the other sites…we were wrong. Pompeii is an incredible site and the pace of the tour was just about right for us. This is a place where you can walk the streets where people have walked since long before Christ. The opulence of their living (steam baths, frescos, statues, and mosaics) is incredible.

Tuscan countryside: The organic farm and cheese-making visit, including a quick trip to Pienza, was an absolute highlight. The lunch was fantastic and inspired us to eat organic! We also loved that to get to the farm you had to travel on gravel roads (well maintained, by the way) and got to see working farms.

Pienza is a beautiful, small village where we could spend an entire day exploring. Next visit, we will carve out a day to shop there and spend the night. There was so much to do in a limited time!!!

Florence: It's just beautiful. The work by Michelangelo just defies explanation and leaves you breathless. The churches are a monument to the wealth and dedication of generations of craftsmen engaged in centuries of work. The cooking class was wonderful and fun, and there was so much food. Making your own tiramisu, pasta, chicken dishes, and sauces was just wonderful.

Venice: We skipped the gondola ride because the tour of the Grand Canal was just incredible. Some of us were a bit spooked by the narrow “streets” or, better yet, passageways. However, we all loved the tour and exploring. One of our crew took off later in the day after the tour and tried to get lost… successfully. But with a bit of iPhone maps and the kindness of the people, they found cafés, open-air markets, an antique shop, children playing football, and a delightful adventure.
