Palermo – Arrive in Sicily and Enjoy a Relaxed Walking Tour of Cefalù

Cefalù offers the best and brightest of Sicily, combined into a single, gorgeous city. The beach shimmers with powdery white sand bordering the crystal-clear turquoise waters. Arab-Norman architecture glows with golden sandstone facades, arabesque windows, and crenulated walls. Mosaics glint with gold leaf within dramatic cathedrals set against the backdrop of rolling mountains. The cobbled lanes carry the aroma of the sea with sporadic bursts of zesty oranges. The relaxed pace and walkways retain the friendly ambiance of the fishing village, embodied in the colorful boats wading in the quiet port.

Your flight lands at Falcone-Borsellino Airport, where your private transfer greets you upon your arrival. You venture to Cefalù to view the medieval streets and quiet, welcoming ambiance. The stunning cliff of La Roca once held an Arab citadel, which led to a Norman castle overlooking the coastline and the cityscape. A staircase winds along the outer ridges of the imposing figure to reach the windswept summit. The plateau offers a view down to the ruins of the 4th-century BC Temple of Diana. Couples stroll along the strewn rocks and preserved columns. You make your way to the Arab-Norman cathedral at the heart of the city, which contains brilliant Byzantine mosaics dating back to the 12th century. The image of Jesus surrounded by shimmering gold dominates the apse and standing above images of the Madonna, archangels, and the Apostles.

Italy Travel Review: Palermo, Trapani, Erice, Mazara del Vallo, Marsala, Taormina, Zingaro Reserve, Historic Sites, Wine Tasting
The trip planning and organization done by the travel agency were amazing. They helped us put together an itinerary to visit most of Sicily starting in the west (Palermo) and making our way around the island ending up in Taormina. We chose to have drivers assist us getting around as train service between small towns is not great and we have driven there before. We managed to see almost all of the sites we were interested in but were in most hotels at least 2 nights and some 3 or 4. It was a somewhat aggressive agenda but with the drivers it was much less tiring. We had time for the outdoors, saw some spectacular Phoenician, Greek and Roman ruins and stayed in some very unique hotels. The tours and events they organized were also very well done. We had professional guides in all of the archeological sites and in general very informative and friendly guides and drivers. We also had downtime which was much appreciated. The great thing about working with them is you could design your own itinerary with their help and make it as active or restful as you want. Our trip started in Palermo and we made our way to the Zingaro Reserve - we were able to see Trapani, Erice, Mazara del Vallo and Marsala as well as the Phoenician settlement of Mozia. We saw the archeological parks of Selinunte, Valley of the Temples, Villa Casale and Siracusa. We ended our trip in Taormina which was perfect.Along the way we had farm lunches, olive grove visits and tours, wine tastings and several other interesting excursions.Veronica and the customer service team were always there for us if needed.

Italy Trip Review: Vietri sul Mare, Palermo, Taormina, Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento, Ravello, Capri, Organic Farm Visit, Mt Etna Tour

We had a fantastic trip that exceeded our expectations. We had an excellent trip planned with Marilisa and she was open to our ideas and to our requested changes and implemented them quickly and got back to us with the confirmation that it was done. The travel arrangements at the airports and daily for tours and excursions were always on time and with great drivers who were helpful and had fun conversations about where we were going and in-depth history. Their skills in driving the vans along the Amalfi coast was amazing and we were all so glad that we were in the hands of expert drivers on these extremely tight and curvy congested roads. Each tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area we went to. More commentary on the tour guides below. The hotels that were provided were great for the two groups. Each one had a good reason why they chose them. In Naples it was right in the center of the old town beaming with life and restaurants. The hotel had a fantastic breakfast room and a great bar service in the afternoon. The rooms were ok, nothing special. The hotel in Vietri sul Mare was a gem. Great location, great views of the ocean, friendly and helpful staff and had some great restaurants nearby. The hotel in Palermo was also right in the middle of the city center with great restaurants in walking distance, but the rooms were just ok, and the breakfast area was very tight to move around. The Resort in Taormina was fantastic also. Same owner as the hotel in Vietri sul Mare. Great location on the beach, easy to get to downtown Taormina. A great bar cafe on the beach and the breakfast area was overlooking the beach. A great place to spend our two free days at the end of the trip. The hotel in Naples was also beautiful for our last night, but we didn't get to use it much as it was the last night before flying home. Our only real disappointment was the first transportation of the trip from Naples airport to the hotel. The driver seemed to be in a hurry when getting us to the hotel. He didn't know the area very well and said he couldn't get any closer to the hotel due to the small roads. He pointed up the road and said it should be up there. We all had two bags to drag around while searching for the hotel. Luckily, we had our phones to use. He wasn't even on the right street, and we had to walk around to find it. The next morning our driver was right outside the hotel, so there was no problem with the road.

Review: Sicily 2-Week Tour, Palermo, Agrigento, Siracusa, Taormina, Catania, Greek Temples, Sailing Tour, Vineyards
First & foremost, a big thank you to everyone that helped make this happen for us. Please know that the guides you recommended for us exceeded our expectations. Marilu was amazing to say the least, Claudio was cool, Frederica was an absolute doll, Salvatore was a hoot and Antonio was terrific. Please consider keeping them all on board. The hotel in Palermo was wonderful and was located perfectly. The staff was attentive and made some great restaurant recommendations. We had a lot of fun in Palermo. We wish the residents took better care of its wonderful city as the graffiti and garbage were somewhat disturbing. Thank you for not having us drive in Palermo. Our driver Paolo (Airport and to Agrigento) was a super nice young man with a magnetic personality. The tour of the Greek Temples was engaging and Claudio's format of making it a classroom session was wonderful. The town itself is somewhat sleepy but adorable and we enjoyed the food and vino. The Hotel was just okay as there was a lot of wasted space and the decor was very dated including the shower. Please consider another Hotel, perhaps closer to the center of town. The drive from Agrigento to Siracusa was mesmerizing as the countryside was gorgeous with the exception of the garbage at every rest stop. Siracusa was fantastic with something around every corner. We always found something to see and something to do in Ortiga. Two criticism's regarding Siracusa. 1. The Hotel was marginal at best, albeit the location was good. The breakfast was just okay as the wait staff was short and curt. The bed (if you can call it that) was horrible. Hard to understand why a "Couple" would be given two crappy little double beds to push together. The front desk was very nice and very helpful. 2. If you are going to advertise a luxury cruise to explore hidden coves and swim in isolated areas, please make sure the captain has a boat that is facilitated to do so. Please consider "stepping up" your game regarding this activity. Our captain was excellent with his skillset, but he did not have a dingy with a motor so we could not enjoy going to any public beach and he did not have life jackets on board and the seating was relatively uncomfortable. Frederica was absolutely wonderful with her amazing lunch and vino. We did have a great day overall but it did not live up to the adventurous aspect that we had anticipated. Please consider other vessels for this part of the itinerary.     Taormina was by far the best part of trip. No negatives here. We absolutely fell in love with Taormina and its surrounding towns (Castelmola and LetoJanni). Amazing Hotel...., etc.  Love, Love, Love Taormina!!! Catania was rich in history and food.  Overall, due to its lack of cleanliness, it wasn't our cup of tea. However, we took the liberty of spending an afternoon at the Gambino Vineyards and that was amazing.

Travel Review: Italy Tour, Sicily, Palermo, Agrigento, Catania, Ragusa, Syracuse, Modica, Chocolate Making, Olive Oil Factory
Trip was excellent.  All the arrangements made by the travel company worked flawlessly.  Although we have been traveling for more than 50 years this was the first time we have used a travel agency to both plan and arrange an overseas trip.  We were impressed with the agency because they listened to what we wanted to do and see.  There were discussions and a few iterations before the final itinerary. Take time and speak with them.  Furthermore they were able to accommodate our idiosyncrasies. We spent 10 nights in Sicily in Palermo, Agrigento, Ragusa Ibla, Siracusa and Catania.  All the hotels and B&B's were excellent and centrally located as we desired,  The drivers and guided tours were staffed with knowledgeable, professional and efficient people.  The agency kept in contact with us throughout the trip although this was not easy since we did have a mobile phone.  There were no problems at all.  Superb suggestions from the travel company that we had not thought about such as a chocolate making class in Modica, a market crawl/cooking class/lunch in Siracusa as well as a visit to a top quality olive oil production estate were some of the highlights of our trip.  The archeological visits also were magnificent. The agency even arranged for our attendance at a Bellini opera in the Teatro Bellini in Catania.  The overall trip was wonderful mostly due to the great travel arrangements.  It did not hurt that for the 10 day trip duration there was no rain, only a few rare clouds and moderate temperatures. We would not hesitate to work with this travel company again.

Italy Luxury Trip Review: Agrigento, Taormina, Marsala, Cooking Class, Wine Tasting, One-Week Tour
Except for a couple of snafus at the airport in Palermo and the wrong bed set-up in Palermo at the beginning of our trip, everything was excellent. We especially enjoyed our hotels in Agrigento and Taormina.
