Intimate Cheetah Safari: Lewa & Masai Mara

What to expect on this itinerary
Cheetahs prowl Kenyan plains and will provide the focal point of this full week’s safari. Divided across Lewa and the Masai Mara, this safari will take you off the trails in search of legendary animals and rare cheetah behaviors. Expert guides lead your way, and exclusive activities will lead you closer to the animals, especially at private conservancies. While cheetahs provide your primary focus, seven full days on safari will present much of the very best of Kenya’s wildlife, including the endangered and endemic species.
Customizable Itinerary
Nairobi – Resting Up in the Kenyan Capital
Before a week on safari, you will have a day to rest and relax in Nairobi. You will not need to travel into the bustling heart of Nairobi although this can be arranged if you seek a cultural experience. After a transfer from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will spend the day in Karen, which is a bucolic suburb where giraffes and elephants are among the local population. A local driver will provide you with transfers to attractions in the area, including the Giraffe Centre and a couple of boutique cafes. Today is mostly about resting after your flight and preparing for your week on safari.

From the initial email contact and telephone conversation with the Zicasso travel agent, we could sense we were in good hands. He was very responsive to our ideas about a trip to Africa and his vast knowledge of the continent was immediately evident. Based on the information provided he quickly turned around a proposed itinerary for a trip to Kenya. Ultimately, we decided on safaris in Amboseli, Lewa, and Maasai Mara. Each location was beautiful in its own unique way. The accommodations were more than comfortable and the food was excellent. The Kenyan people were beyond friendly and the wildlife viewing was amazing.
In addition, we got some sense of the local cultures and were very pleased to learn that a portion of the revenue generated by our stays in each location went to the local conservation efforts.
The logistics of the trip were seamless, starting with our arrival in Nairobi very late on a Monday night, through to our return to the Nairobi airport on the evening of our departure.
The team at the travel agency handled all of the details and enabled our family to truly experience the trip of a lifetime. We would recommend this travel agency without reservation.

Our Africa safari travel agency did a great job for us arranging our first trip to Kenya. The pace and logistics were perfect for us. We saw thousands of animals, including the big five (even three of the elusive leopard), thousands of wildebeests, a couple of crossings. We spent time alone with the Maasai in one of their villages. We made many new friends. Another plus was the fact that each camp became progressively nicer, though all had their advantages. We were sad to leave the last camp in Naboisho and our guide.
We have many cherished memories and experiences thanks to our travel agent.

We had an amazing trip with our 8 and 9-year-old kids, who were the perfect age for this trip--their mix of wonder, inquisitiveness, and attention were perfectly timed, and the places that our travel planners at this tour company guided us to were a great match.
We spent 9 nights on safari across 3 camps with a night in Nairobi before and a full day in Nairobi after. Our camps--Tortilis Camp, Lewa Safari Camp, and Kichwa Tembo, were each unique and our time at each was ideal for taking advantage of each location--both the game drives and the extras like a forest hike at Lewa and a chance to interact with the kids and staff at a local camp-supported primary school at Kichwa Tembo.
As for the animals, we saw everything one could want to see: elephants and buffalos by the hundreds, giraffes by the score, lions, hippos, and rhinos by the dozen (including lion hunts and kills), and plenty of everything else--even the elusive leopards and cheetahs. The conservancy experiences--being able to go off-road and to truly get mind-blowingly close to animals without other cars around were extraordinarily special experiences--breakfasts at a watering hole elephants, (a few) feet from lions feeding on a kill, and even a cheetah playing with our vehicle.
Our travel planners at the tour company were amazingly helpful. We're very well traveled and very hands-on travel planners, and we hesitantly decided to turn the planning for this trip over to someone with insider knowledge and connections, and we're glad we did. Their proposed mix of camps to give us unique experiences and see all the animals, their flexibility to craft the right trip for our family's needs, the logistics management, and seamless transfers, the birthday celebrations they set up for our kids--all was perfect. And their level of service before and throughout was exceptional, including our mistake on a visa that they were helpful to navigate even in the wee hours local time for them. We're grateful for all they did to make this a really special trip.
