Day 1

Windhoek - Leisurely Arrival

Namibia is quick to unveil its inimitability, the capital city of Windhoek running at a wonderfully leisurely pace. Nothing in Namibia is hurried or impersonal. This is a land where there’s always time to say hello and start a conversation with strangers. At Windhoek International Airport you’ll be met by a representative and taken to your vehicle. This itinerary includes two options to explore Northern Namibia. Choose to self-drive or be driven by an experienced local driver. The excellent quality of Namibian roads comes as a surprise to most and there is virtually no other traffic on the road. However, road signs warning of crossing elephants indicate the sort of adventure you’re going to have. There will be some short sections on unsealed roads as well as a full day of rugged trails when you drive through Etosha. Namibians drive on the left and a choice of geared and automatic vehicles are available for self-driving. Or sit back and let someone else do the driving, leaving you free to ogle at the scenery.

After getting comfortable in the vehicle you head into Windhoek and rest up in an idyllic boutique lodge that exudes tranquility.

South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe Tour Review: Sky Balloon Safari, Game Drives, 3 Weeks

Zicasso’s tour company did an outstanding job planning our three-week vacation and safari through South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Our agent patiently worked with us through a number of iterations.

The selected lodges and hotels were immaculate. The service at each lodge was second to none. The activity schedules were planned accurately. Our guides, rangers, pilots, and many others involved in our activities were knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and had a high degree of experience. We always felt safe and well taken care of.

While our planned schedule was tight, we never felt pressured or stressed by the local tour guides. Our agent’s planning allowed us to maximize our experience. For instance, making sure we get to Inyati in time for the afternoon game drive on the day of arrival. She was always on top, checking in multiple times and making sure we got the best service possible.

We can strongly recommend our travel company, specifically our agent, and thank them for making this trip unforgettable.

South Africa, Namibia, Botswana Luxury Vacation Review: Safari, Wildlife, Hiking, Local Cuisine, Two-Week Trip

We worked with Zicasso's travel partner to plan a trip around a seven-night sail in the Seychelles. After sailing, we followed the itinerary we put together with our agent to Namibia and Botswana. We had a glitch in Namibia with a scenic flight of the Skeleton Coast that did not go as planned. I made contact with our agent and over a couple of days, he forged a solution that fixed the oversight by one of his vendors.

We enjoyed the desert lodge very much. It was a first-class and beyond operation. We also really enjoyed Sossusvlei. We were not happy with our shared guided rides as we were with parents and their 11-year-old only child who ran their lives. It affected us on our tour of Sossusvlei in that we were left alone without a guide for three hours to hike Deadvlei while they unsuccessfully attempted to hike Big Daddy. The longest anyone takes to do that hike is an hour and three quarters. They only made it halfway and were gone for three hours.

We were not thrilled with the two-hour, very rugged ride from and back to the airstrip to the camp, but we did enjoy the camp very much. In hindsight, if we had known the ride would be dissatisfying, we would have likely opted for a different accommodation. This said, the private rides in the Hoanib Valley were unique and very satisfying.

We loved that as much as both of our camps in Botswana, which were in the Okavango Delta and in quite different environments. The camp was wonderful. The highlight of our trip came at our last camp in Botswana. We really enjoyed this area of the Delta in that it had a lot of water. This created a very unique guided driving experience. The safari rides were arguably the best we’ve ever done as we witnessed three warthog kills by lions. We almost witnessed a fourth, of a lechwe by a hyena.

What made this camp a cut above the rest was the food and overall culinary approach of the executive chef. He was at the top of his game. This camp also offered surprise after surprise to make us feel special – lunch in the field, a private dinner in our room, bubble bath, etc.

Our travel agent put together an incredible itinerary and trip. He too was at the top of his game!
