Auckland - Hold Hands in Auckland

Arrive in Auckland and see the beauty and romance in the swaying sails of the city. The harbors border the city and teem with sailboats that catch the breeze and race along the sea. Wander Queens Street hand in hand; the pulse of the city is contagious, enrapturing you with every step. The shops sport European style with a Polynesian flair. The sweet scent of fresh pastries flows through the streets and mixes with the floral perfume of the sea. As the sun begins to fade behind the skyline the streets begin to twinkle in the dusk.

The skyline towers over the city center with its focal point, the SkyTower, piercing the sky with its space needle and casting an incredible light on the city; it is the Southern Hemisphere’s tallest freestanding structure. For a unique and decadent dinner, sit in the luxurious restaurant, located in the revolving tower with the city glowing and bustling below. Experience the modern Kiwi-inspired menu with decadent dishes like the roast salmon that will fill your mouth with a smoky glazed jus, accompanied by sweet corn, and the rich, mouth-watering prawn and potato risotto with broccolini. As the city spins slowly beneath you, the lights of the Auckland night surround you, as if the city is secluded and radiating just for you. This is what New Zealand luxury tours are all about!

Travel Review: Trip to Australia & New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne, Queenstown, Rotorua, Uluru, Met Cook, Great Ocean Road

We have just returned from a 6 week trip to Australia and New Zealand.  Our travel agents and their team at this travel company are personable, professional, knowledgeable and did an amazing job putting together our trip! Our collaboration involved several phone calls to discuss options and preferences as our trip was being organized as well as a pre-trip call to answer any questions.  Our email exchange was continuous and responses were very prompt.  We even received a call once during our travels to check in.  Our detailed itinerary was precise and accurate.  Every connection, tour, driver, hotel, etc. was on time and of excellent quality. While in New Zealand in Milford Sound our flight back to Queenstown was cancelled due to poor weather and we received a quick refund.

In Australia we visited Sydney, Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road ( a favorite of ours!), Uluru, Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef, and Hobart, Tasmania.  We only stayed a few days in Tasmania but would love to return to enjoy more of the wilderness outside of Hobart.

In New Zealand we visited Auckland and then drove to the Coromandel Peninsula, Rotorua, and Napier.  Then we flew to Christchurch on the South Island and drove to Mt. Cook, Queenstown, and Dunedin.  If you are big fans of the outdoors, spend more time on the South Island.

Our agent selected beautiful and centrally located lodging that usually offered laundry facilities-helpful for a long trip!  The travel company also provided a suggested restaurant list that proved to be excellent!  We would highly recommend this company for your Down Under adventures!  When we travel again to that part of the world, we will definitely call this company.

New Zealand Tour Review: Auckland, Abel Tasman, Kaikoura, Queenstown, Rotorua, Wellington, Canoe Trip, Penguin Tour, Dolphin Swim

This was definitely a bucket list trip and we are hopeful to return for some of the adventures that we just couldn’t fit in within the three weeks! We met great people while there, friendly and helpful to a fault (if that is possible.)  It was a whole series of fantastic adventures.  No worries at all!  Thanks to our New Zealand travel company for organizing such a memorable trip.

The only minor glitches were with the pick up for the Penguin Tour in Dunedin—they still had the original location-- and the Taxi was about a half-hour late in Taupo. The Hilltop House and Waitomo Guest Lodge both have great hosts, great views, great food, and good location.  Hotels had great locations within Queenstown, in Taupo, and in Rotorua for walking to lakefront and free attractions.

New Zealand Luxury Review, North & South Islands, Wellington, Queenstown, Sheep Farm, Vineyards
We had an amazing experience with this travel team. I worked directly with our trip planner who was a pleasure to work with and she put together a wonderful itinerary for us. I gave her an overview of what we wanted to do, basically visit both the North and South Islands of New Zealand and get a good overall feel of the country.  We only had 15 days available for this trip due to our work schedules back home which made it a bit of a challenge for our planner. Within a couple of days, she came back with a first pass itinerary which looked really good.  I had a slight change to one of the dates/locations and she was able to accommodate it quickly for us.  We nailed down the dates of our vacation and she was able to confirm all the accommodations and activities within a couple of days. It was a painless process and we were very happy with the results. All the accommodations, activities and transportation this travel team arranged for us were superior. We stayed in a great boutique hotel in Queenstown, a spectacular lodge across from Mount Cook, a great apartment in Akaroa close to everything, an ultra-modern luxury hotel in Wellington, a romantic lodge in Napier surrounded by vineyards, a cute little cottage on a sheep farm near Waitomo Glowworm caves and a top end hotel in Auckland on the harbor. We couldn't have been more pleased with our accommodations. All the activities they arranged for us were great and gave us a great experience in New Zealand. We paid for everything up front, so it was really nice not dealing with any of that while on our trip.  I highly recommend this travel team, you can't go wrong with them.

New Zealand Luxury Vacation Review: Queenstown, Wellington, Christchurch, Waiheke Island, Auckland, Rotorua, Franz Joseph Glacier

We felt very comfortable planning our trip with Rick. We told him our interests, concerns and and the pace we wanted to travel at.  He presented us with an itinerary which we spent hours reviewing along with a map, photos and and a website. Our primary hub towns were Queenstown, Wellington and Christchurch. We used two regional flights and two trains with gorgeous views of the coast and mountains. We took a few cruises and a private flight over the glaciers. Our River Dartboat excursion was cancelled when the drivers came down with Covid and the swim with the Dolphins mistakenly cancelled us off this trip. Cyclone Gabriela damaged Napier and the Coromandel Penninsula and the access roads, so we had to create an alternate plan on the ground in NZ. We added two days at Waiheke Island and attempted a hike up mount Doom and visits to the Weta Projects in Auckland and Wellington.Rick was amazingly helpful with changes that had to be made before and during the trip. He was the best!

Review: South Pacific Vacation, New Zealand & Fiji, Auckland, Queenstown, Christchurch, Waiheke Island, Wine Tour

Our hotel in Auckland was very nice.  We were very happy with the location and the hotel bed was very comfortable.  The restaurant in the hotel had a good selection and the food was very good.

The taste of Waiheke tour was outstanding.  We all very much enjoyed it.  The lunch served was some of the best food we ate while in NZ.

We were very disappointed in the 10 day south island tour.

First the good part.  Our tour director as good, very informative and a nice man.  The driver was very nice and a very safe driver.  We had a difficult time understanding him, partly because of his microphone.

Now the rest.  When we boarded the coach 60 % of the passengers were sick.  They had been on the North Island for several days and passed around a virus.  Our first day , leaving Christchurch, everyone was coughing, sneezing and blowing their noses.  We complained to  our tour director and he told everyone to use hand antibacterial gel.  By the second day several of the people that had joined the tour in Christchurch, including the 4 of us, had contacted the virus.  Nothing was done to sanitize the coach or to provide face mask.  By the time we were in Queenstown several of us were at the doctors office.  Still everyone was coughing, fevers, sneezing, etc.  I missed out on 4 dinners due to illness and I know many others were very sick.  NOTHING was done, no preventive measures, by the tour company.  As we traveled through N.Z. we went to several pharmacys and were told that this is very common to have a coach arrive with a bus load of sick passengers.  Obviously this ruined our trip.

I would never recommend traveling on that tour bus to anyone.  We are home now, April 9th and still sick.  I would expect that if this is the normal and nothing is done to disinfect or change air filters, then people need to know what they are getting themselves into.

When we left N.Z.  we traveled to Fiji with plans to scuba dive.   Of course that didn't happen due to sickness.  So our entire trip was ruined.

Besides the sickness, the hotels were OK.  Probably the nicest was in Queenstown.  But I was in bed the 2 nights we were there and didn't get to enjoy it.

The food was buffet, buffet, buffet.  Same food every night.  Very disappointing.

Luxury New Zealand Trip Review: Christchurch, Twizel, Queenstown, Kaikoura, Lake Tekapo, Stewart Island, Ulva Island, Milford Sound

David and I were extremely lucky to have had Geoff of this travel company plan our 15 day itinerary in New Zealand, Nov 11 - 25. Our travel interests center primarily on nature, landscape and culture, and our early phone conversations with Geoff were extremely helpful in identifying areas of greatest interest. We talked to Geoff a few times going over an itinerary by email and phone that helped him create our trip of a lifetime vacation. Geoff’s own knowledge, advise and investigation for locations and experiences were amazing. Any sea animal, nature preserve, creature or bird we mentioned we would like to try to see were all worked into our inclusive, self-drive, private itinerary. Geoff and his wife, Libby were welcoming and helpful on our arrival in Twizel. Geoff gave us a great start and advice before we left and again whenever we needed it on our trip. David needed some minor medical care near the end of our trip and Geoff arranged and handled it both caring and professionally, which we knew he would. We drove the Southern Scenic Historical route which was fantastic. There was so much to see and take in at our choosing. Every small group excursion or tour we went on left us wanting to learn and investigate more on our own.

The accommodations Geoff arranged were exceptionally comfortable and beautiful. In addition, all of the staff we met were absolutely excellent and made sure that every need was met with genuine kindness and concern. When our luggage didn’t arrive with us in Christchurch one of the staff members at the hotel in Christchurch offered to pick it up the next day at the airport, because we would be out on an all day tour. Staying at the Lodge near Twizel was magical. Our bedroom opened to a pond filled with baby ducks, frogs and sounds that were delightful. One could have spent days there just watching the light and clouds change over the pond while in the background the Southern Alps lingered under the long white clouds. An entirely different memorable experience was our stay at the hotel near Dunedin where we dined at the Larnach Castle, while being able to tour the rooms and gardens. On Steward Island we stayed at a hotel, which were centrally located and easy to feel at home in. The Lodge was warm and inviting overlooking Te Anau lake, absolutely breathtaking. Lastly mentioned but not all of, the Hotel in Queenstown couldn’t make our final stay more accommodating or pleasurable when David was ill.
