Customizable Itinerary
Christchurch – Checking into a Welcoming City
Christchurch is the South Island’s central gateway city. You will touch down, transfer to a hotel in the city center, and take some time to settle in. New Zealand is a long way from home so you may want to rest before the adventure begins. Although devastated by a 2011 earthquake, the city has rebuilt and redefined itself over the last few years. It is a very charming and largely pedestrianized city to walk around, with a host of bars and restaurants near your hotel. If you have the energy, then head to the International Antarctic Centre, where simulations show a day in the life of what it is like on Antarctica.

Detailed Description
While volcanoes craft New Zealand’s North Island, the South Island is a dramatic display of nature’s various powers. Landscapes collide here, magnificent fjords emanate a wild mystique, glaciers tumble down through thick green rainforests, and tropical beaches and bays dot the north, which is home to rays and turtles. Wild Pacific waters will bring whales and dolphins to the east while pastoral plains will give way to huge, snowy mountains. Lakes are everywhere, pristine and blue as they guide your journey around the island. One afternoon can be hot and humid as you search for the rare rowi kiwi. The next morning, it may be sub-zero as you are hiking through a glacial ice tunnel.
Celebrating the island’s magnificent range of landscapes, this 17-day tour takes you to all the essential national parks and natural destinations. The tour is privately guided and travels overland from Christchurch to Nelson via Doubtful Sound and the Western Coast. As it is a handcrafted tour, it can be adapted to become a self-driven tour should you wish. At each destination, guided experiences will showcase the landscape in all of its glory. You will experience an overnight cruise, kayaking, canoeing, whale watching, various hikes, swimming with dolphins, a scenic flight, and a Heli Hike on the Franz Josef glacier. This tour is not just about passing through; it is an experiential journey.
You will begin with three days in Christchurch, including day trips to Akaroa for dolphins and Kaikoura for whales. Fly over Lake Tekapo en route to two nights beneath New Zealand’s highest mountain: Aoraki Mount Cook. Explore nature and cruise on Lake Wanaka before the glowworm caves of Te Anau become day seven’s main highlight. Spend 24 hours on Doubtful Sound and then carve a path through the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area. Two days at Lake Moeraki will take you off the beaten track while two nights at the Franz Josef glacier will bring intimate glacier and kiwi bird encounters. Then, Arthur’s Pass can be a contrasting stop en route to Abel Tasman, where you will end your trip by visiting tropical beaches and trails. My husband and I went on a wonderful trip to New Zealand visiting both North and South Island. The trip was originally planned for 2021 but had to be postponed until this year. I prefer working with an agent, and Lindsay from our travel agency was extremely responsive, offering helpful options and suggestions. Even though the time we spent on the North Island was right after the torrential rains, we modified the itinerary to spend four days in the Taupo area and two days in Rotorua.
We hiked in the Tongariro National Park and part of the Great Lake Pathway, sailed to view the Maori Rock Carvings, and visited Orakei Korako geothermal pools and Huka Falls in the Lake Taupo area. In Rotorua, we relaxed in the mineral pools of the spa and enjoyed the indigenous Maori experience at Te Puia.
The next 12 days were spent on the South Island where we had sunny and warm weather! One of our favorite places was Abel Tasman Park where we went kayaking and hiked the beautiful Coast Trek. We continued our adventures with a memorable heli-hiking experience on the Tasman Glacier in the Mt. Cook region, followed by visiting the unique blue penguins and Royal Albatrosses on the Otago Peninsula and enjoyed a hike and cruise on the famous Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park.
We ended our journey with three days in the Lake Wanaka area where we kayaked, hiked, and visited some of the region's famous wineries.

We were very pleased with the service we received from our Zicasso travel agent. She designed an itinerary that was perfect for us, focused on seeing wildlife and some of the beautiful, must-see places in Australia and New Zealand. The accommodations she picked exceeded our expectations and the tours were great. After my sister and I had an initial conversation with her, we knew we wanted to work with her.
We spent about eight days in Australia. We flew into Sydney, spent a night there, then on to the Port Douglas area, where we visited an excellent wildlife habitat where we were able to hold koalas and feed kangaroos. A cruise to the Great Barrier Reef was enjoyable, but unfortunately, it had rained quite a bit and the water was murky and very choppy. Next, we flew to Melbourne (a beautiful city) and had a wonderful time in that area. For tours, we went to Phillip Island and a wildlife sanctuary to see the smallest penguins emerge from the sea. The next day, we went on a two-day/one-night Great Ocean tour, which was spectacular.
We started the New Zealand part of the trip in Queenstown, a very scenic town. From there, we had a day trip to Milford Sound, which was beautiful, and a very enjoyable paradise walk. We next traveled to the Mount Cook area, but unfortunately, the stargazing was canceled due to cloudy skies. Our last excursion was to Christchurch. There we visited the Arthur’s Pass National Park, which included a TranzAlpine train trip.

This travel agent and the travel company team were out of this world! They crafted an amazing four-week adventure for us in New Zealand and Fiji. We started in Te Anau, NZ, where we focused on hiking and boating to both the Milford and Doubtful Sounds. We flew from Te Anau to the Nelson area at the top of the south island and fell in love with Mapua, located just 30 minutes from Nelson. We explored the Abel Tasman area extensively there. Next, we traveled (by plane again) to Russell, just across the way from Pahia and Kerikeri. It was a dream of a place, and we continued to hike, sail, and eat amazing food and drink delicious wines. Our accommodations couldn't have been better! Our travel company thought of everything! Last stop was Fiji - this their idea - make a stop in a super relaxing place on the way home back to Texas. The resort was out of a picture book - we had an extraordinary villa with our own plunge pool - the service, food, and staff were beyond amazing. We highly recommend this company - even when we had a travel snag, our agent answered his cell straight away and was on call to help us get to a solution. Can't say enough good things about him and his team!

We have just returned from a 6 week trip to Australia and New Zealand. Our travel agents and their team at this travel company are personable, professional, knowledgeable and did an amazing job putting together our trip! Our collaboration involved several phone calls to discuss options and preferences as our trip was being organized as well as a pre-trip call to answer any questions. Our email exchange was continuous and responses were very prompt. We even received a call once during our travels to check in. Our detailed itinerary was precise and accurate. Every connection, tour, driver, hotel, etc. was on time and of excellent quality. While in New Zealand in Milford Sound our flight back to Queenstown was cancelled due to poor weather and we received a quick refund.
In Australia we visited Sydney, Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road ( a favorite of ours!), Uluru, Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef, and Hobart, Tasmania. We only stayed a few days in Tasmania but would love to return to enjoy more of the wilderness outside of Hobart.
In New Zealand we visited Auckland and then drove to the Coromandel Peninsula, Rotorua, and Napier. Then we flew to Christchurch on the South Island and drove to Mt. Cook, Queenstown, and Dunedin. If you are big fans of the outdoors, spend more time on the South Island.
Our agent selected beautiful and centrally located lodging that usually offered laundry facilities-helpful for a long trip! The travel company also provided a suggested restaurant list that proved to be excellent! We would highly recommend this company for your Down Under adventures! When we travel again to that part of the world, we will definitely call this company.
