Oslo – Arrive in Oslo with a Culture Tour Finding Hints of Frozen

Arriving in Oslo will immerse your family in the enchanting ambiance of Arendelle, where Elsa and Anna live in a castle that resembles the Akershus Fortress. The fortress towers above the sea along the edges of snowy coastline, and the facades of colorful homes will reflect in the light beneath the delightful image of snow-covered rooftops. Visiting Norway in winter and the beginning of spring opens the whimsical world of Frozen with sheets of snow and ice that transform the charming city and surrounding landscape into a winter wonderland. Here, every day holds cool, crisp air and the aromas of cinnamon, cardamom, and pine to make you feel as though you could run into Elsa around every corner.

Your private transfer will meet your family at the airport and escort to your luxurious accommodation in the heart of the city. Once you have arrived and checked in, you can settle into the comforts and pace of Oslo before meeting your guide for a private introduction to the history, culture, and marvels of Oslo. When visiting the Stave church inside the Norsk Folkemuseum, your family will find hints of Elsa and Anna’s castle, and you may notice the similarities in the architecture, such as the lofty portals, decorated staves, and sloping roofs.

You will also visit the Viking Ship Museum, where the fascinating history and culture of Norway brims to life and will introduce your family to the heritage that has informed the unique images of the Frozen movies. Once inside the museum, you can view the captivating Oseberg Viking Ship, which is an actual ship that dates back to the 9th century.

You also have the option of adding a private glassmaking workshop, during which, your instructor and experienced glassblowing artisan will teach your family how to craft an intricate and unique souvenir to take home with you. The heat in the room will drift from the kiln with an orange glow as your instructor demonstrates how to shape the molten glass into a snowflake. Each curve, twist, and turn will be different for every member of your family, which will allow everyone to feel as though they have Elsa’s magic for creating snow.

Detailed Description

The crackling of frozen water and the crunching of snow will become the soundtrack to your adventurous, 8-day Norwegian tour in winter or spring. This adventure will perfectly capture the ambiance and inspiration for Frozen 2. While the waters may not sound like the hit song “Let It Go,” your family will discover the treasures of the enchanting scenery and storybook cities from Oslo to Tromso, and each new town will conjure the charms of Arendelle. Whether riding in a sleigh that is being pulled by reindeer or listening to traditional tales of witches and trolls, your family will experience where culture and heritage merge within the wonders of Anna and Elsa’s kingdom in Frozen 2. Throughout your adventure, you will follow the character’s quest from Arendelle throughout the magical setting of Norway.

Your Frozen adventure in Norway will begin with your arrival in Oslo and a private tour of captivating sites that showcase how the capital city of the country has helped to shape the beauty of Arendelle. You will learn about Norwegian culture at the Norsk Folkemuseum, find Viking history at the Viking Ship Museum, and have the opportunity to craft a snowflake during an optional glassblowing lesson. Two days in Flam will provide you with a new perspective on the wintery landscape with a train ride through the mountains. Afterward, you can indulge in a guided tour of the town that will be accompanied by tales of local legends that relate to trolls or witches like Pabbie, Bulda or Elsa. You will also spend time venturing onto the glassy waters of a fjord in search of wildlife in addition to meeting with a local shop owner in the village of Underdal.

You will continue westward on a scenic train ride to Bergen that will provide you with an exceptional view of colorful homes that are blanketed with snow and reminiscent of Arendelle. Your family can also enjoy a ride to the top of Mt. Floyen for a fabulous panoramic view of the town, sea, and fjord that will remind you of the short film: Olaf’s Quest. After flying to the city of Tromso, your family will delight in touring the famous Ice Domes hotel that brings the unlikely ideas of Elsa’s ice palace to life with the option to participate in a few snow-bound activities, including a snowshoeing excursion to reach an iconic ice structure.

You will travel into the wilderness to visit with your Sami guides and community, which are known as the traditional peoples of the Lapland. An overnight tour of the snow-white landscape will lead you into a different world of Frozen-like wonder, during which, you will meet reindeer, hear the stories of the Sami, and enjoy a sleigh ride in search of the Northern Lights. Upon your return to Oslo, you can have the day at your leisure to relax, ice skate, or take your time to enjoy the ambiance of Norway’s capital city in winter or spring before returning home.

Anniversary Vacation Review: Norway, Svolvaer, Tromso, Culture, Scenery & Hiking
Norway Anniversary vacation reviewOur trip planner did an amazing job putting together an itinerary that kept it romantic when we were in Svolvaer and active when we were in Tromso.  The accommodation at Svolvaer was so picturesque and memorable.  The hikes and the guides were so knowledgeable, friendly and made them memorable.  The app really helped us.  I would recommend the company to anyone that is interested in putting together an itinerary that suits their interests personally

Norway & Sweden Luxury Vacation Review: Oslo, Tromso, Stockholm, Svalbard, Dog Sledding, Music Festival

This was a customized trip to the Arctic.  I specified as my 2 primary parameters that we get as far north of the Arctic Circle as possible without being scientists or in the military, and that we spend at least 3 full days in Tromso attending as many concerts as possible at Nordlysfestivalen, the North Lights Festival of international music.  Our trip planner did an admirable job fulfilling both of those criteria.  The trip was well planned, with the northerly part being a 3+ day stay in Longyearbyen on Svalbard, providing the outdoor and physical excitement of the trip, and obligatory time in Tromso, with too-short time in Oslo and Stockholm.

Norway Trip Review: Oslo, Balestrand, Bergen, Fjords, Lakes & Landscape
The travel designers did an outstanding job of tailoring our 6 day Norway adventure to our specific tastes. They suggested first rate hotels and yet there were some I wanted changed, and they were incredibly helpful. We hit bad weather in Balestrand and they got us out a day early, changing ferry and adjusting Bergen hotel. I am so grateful for their assistance AND patience, always kind and cooperative!  The personalized mobile app had all our ferry and train tickets, maps, suggested activities and more!  They were very reasonably priced;  we had compared Zicasso with others. Thank you all, I look forward to working with you again!!

Norway Vacation Review: Oslo, Hiking, Canoeing, Scenery, Culture & The People
We had a wonderful trip to Norway. This travel team was super organized, and we LOVED the app they gave us which highlighted each day's activities along with other important information like weather, and local maps.  They helped us get flights to Norway, and at no fault of their own, the airline cancelled our flight on the morning it was scheduled to take us to Norway.  The travel team was very helpful trying to find another route to get us to our destination. We had a " hiccup" once landing in Oslo with hotel reservation, but again, they were helpful straightening it out.  The guides we had in Norway were wonderful and the excursions ( hiking, kayaking, canoeing) were breathtakingly beautiful.

Travel Review: Norway & Denmark Vacation, Oslo, Copenhagen, Senja

I believe the trip was successful for the most part.  But we did have some difficulties with pick up times in Oslo and Copenhagen.  The phone numbers did not work from my iPhone and thanks to the concierge who dialed from his desk phone was able to get through.  The UK number listed on the itinerary did not work properly.  And emergency numbers are a farce when you are in Europe and trying to call at odd hours.  If you are going to have emergency numbers they should be answered by a live person.  The hotel in Oslo should not be recommended to anyone until they fix their front desk problems and cleaning problems.
