Lima – The Lima Seaside

Arrive in Lima, considered to be the City of Kings. The grandeur of the city sits within its diversity as the neighborhoods stretch along the expanse of the ocean. The air smells of the sweet sea and citrus, while each neighborhood adds a rich layer to the city’s eclectic wonder. Wander through the city and experience the splendor first hand with a visit to the Church of San Francisco. The yellow façade looks like the sun shining bright against the open blue sky. The church bells peel through the air and give a singing quality to the city. Enter the church and find the exuberant tile lining the walls, streaks of white and red climbing into the archways and circling the dome. Follow a guide into the depths of the church where the lights flicker like torches giving you a sense of adventurous exploration. The catacombs are damp and heavy with the rich history within the city. The stones are cold to the touch. The sound of shoes against dirt paths lingers in the air. The various tombs run along the walls and a large tomb sits within the confines of a deep, wide well-like structure.

Continue your exploration of history with a visit to the trendy seaside neighborhood of Miraflores. The Calle de Pizza emanates the scent of baked dough and melted cheese. Meander along the outskirts and find the stunning remains of Huaca Pucllana. The adobe bricks are stacked and tiered, making the pyramid look like an optical illusion, winding up and around each brick into the sky and the ground simultaneously. Wander amongst the bricks where you can see the modern city of Lima rising in the background, a reminder of the modern city siting atop fantastic history. The night brings with it the gentle glow of the pyramid in the spotlights bringing the ancient wonders to golden life against the starry night and lulling waves.

Walk through the clouds, over the cobblestone roads, and through the magnificent ruins where you can look down on lingering treasures from sensational heights.

Arrive in Lima with the City of Kings beckoning to you. Standing against the coast and sprawling across the shores of the Pacific, explore the majesty of the city, in its Spanish remnants and beneath the Church of San Francisco where the catacombs lie. Venture to Cusco where the city shines along the Andean hills like a pearl, mixed with a colonial past and mountain culture. Begin your trekking excursion along the banks of the Urubamba River as you take your first steps along the trail. Ascend above the valley to the stunning ruins of Llaqtapata strewn along the valley floor on top of agricultural terraces.

Continue your journey through the mountains as you climb higher into the Andes, away from the sweeping valley, and through the dense and lush jungle. The water careens through the floor and orchids blossom as you climb higher above the canopy and into the open, arid altitude where the jungle recedes. You will descend over the pass and into Phuyupatamarca, magnificent ruins angled over the mountainside, before continuing on to the grand remains of Wiñaywayna. Over the trail steps and beyond the Sun Gate you will discover the grandeur of the Lost City of Machu Picchu, where you can wander and explore the stone steps of this Wonder of the World. Eventually you will return to Cusco and depart for home. The exceptional sights of ruins strewn across the mountainside and orchids blossoming beneath the jungle canopy will never be less than majestic. As you fly through the clouds, over the remnants of the Inca Trail, you will always remember that you climbed to such great heights.

Peru Tour Review: Cusco, Lima, Choco Museo, Inca Bridge, Ollantaytambo, Yarn Weaving Tour, San Pedro Market, Magic Water Circuit
This travel team was very responsive to our requests and made the trip one that ran smoothly, was memorable and enjoyable! Our trip planner was patient and helped us even when we wanted to incorporate a hike the last day of our trip. She made suggestions until we found a hike that would meet our scheduling needs. Our driver, in Lima, was excellent and took us to some additional sights and went above and beyond by staying to take us back to our hotel after our dinner and to see the different fountains at the Magic Water Circuit. Our guide in Cusco was very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the history of the people and Incas and respecting the sites we visited. He also helped take awesome pictures that feature both my husband and I and are memories we will cherish. There was a mix up on the location of the class with the Choco Museum - the actual location was minutes away from our hotel and it would have saved some running around if the location was verified. All in all the trip of a lifetime and in large part it was due to this travel company.

Peru Travel Review: Cusco, Lima, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu

The travel company had good guides in Cusco and on the Inka trail. The guide in Lima was very nice, but hard to understand. I felt he showed us very little of Lima and we were disappointed.

We asked for vegetarian, vegan meals, and never received names of restaurants in Cusco that we could enjoy. More research should be done on this. We were let down. Some restaurants did not know what vegetarian is.

Too many days did not have full schedules of activities The church was closed in the morning in Cusco (which should have been checked out prior to our visit) especially given the hours were posted on a sign at the door. Our guide never took us back and told us to go on our own in the afternoon. The last day in Cusco with a ride of two hours each way to see the ruins was just too far at this point. Maybe this could have been done a day we had a free afternoon. No suggestions on what we should do with all the free time we had, especially in Cusco.

The hotel at Inkartarra was beautiful, but we arrived there at 4:30 in the afternoon, there were no lights until 6:00 and we left early the next morning to take visit the ruins of MP. We could not take advantage of the amenities and it was very expensive. You should have realized with our schedule, that another choice and less money would have been more suitable. The other hotels were very nice. When we had the shaman, we had only a few hours with him and then we were driven back to our hotel The Sonesta. There was an afternoon hike scheduled for the same day that never happened? We're not sure what the glitch was.

Our driver in Cusco was fabulous. Courteous, careful and very caring. The driver in Lima spoke English well and was very nice.

We did enjoy our time in Peru.

Review: Peru Vacation, Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Local Culture & Cuisine

Our trip planned by this travel company could not have been more perfect. Our travel planner's recommendations for all of our tours worked out beautifully and we saw so much of the beautiful countryside as well as Lima. Every tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave us so much information about the area we were seeing. No one could know more than our guide about the Cusco area. I highly recommend them

Peru Tour Review: Cusco, Lima, Miraflores Parasailing, Puno, Machu Picchu, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca

Our tour operator was a superb travel agency. They organized our trip with immaculate details. The hotels, guides, drivers and cars were all excellent. The hotels they chose were very good for the price. In fact I made a mistake of choosing one hotel in Cusco on my own. This turned out to be an average hotel and the fault lies with me. The overall price was also excellent. Our travel agents constantly kept in touch with us both here in the USA (prior to our departure) as well as in Peru. Even as we were checking in for our flight back home at Lima Airport, our agent called us to make sure we were doing fine. That was a nice gesture.

Review: Peru Tour, Aguas Calientes, Cusco, Machu Picchu

Overall, the trip went really well.  I liked that I was able to customize the trip in order to meet the specific interests of my group.  Our agent was extremely flexible and patient with all of our last-minute changes and had everything planned out perfectly for us!  In general, everything was very organized (except for a minor mishap where the driver forgot to pick up our bags) and our transfers were on time or early to pick us up.  The guides were extremely knowledgeable and very familiar with the area.

One downside, however, is that one of the guides was extremely difficult to understand, so we didn't get as much from that tour as possible.  There were also a few points where I felt a bit of pressure to buy from certain vendors, but not so much that I wasn't able to say no.

We were generally very pleased with the flow of the trip and amount of time spent in each location.  The domestic portion of the Lima airport was a pain.  Our flight to Cusco was several hours delayed and it was difficult to get any information.

Our hotel is Cusco was in a great location and had great service and great breakfast!  It was, however, extremely noisy and it was not possible to regulate the temperature of the room (and we didn't have a window to open and let the heat out), so it was really hot.

We LOVED Aguas Caliente and would have preferred to spend a little more time there (instead of Cusco).  The hot springs were definitely downplayed.  Our accommodation was a great little modern hotel!  We had dinner included at our hotel at a specified time along with many others.  This dinner was probably one of the worst parts of the trip.  While the food was fantastic, it took over 20 mins just to get water.  When we did finally get drinks and food, a few of the orders were wrong.  Service at dinner was TERRIBLE and there was nothing done to remedy the poor service.

Travel Review: Luxury Family Peru Tour, Cusco, Lima, Sacred Valley, Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, Whitewater Rafting

We were extremely happy with this travel agency.  We spent a week near Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu and 5 days in the jungle and a few days in Lima.  It is likely the best organized and most thorough travel agency we have ever dealt with.  The transfers were perfect.  The tours were excellent, our tour guides we really great and made the trip and the accommodations were perfect for our group.  Our tour guide out of Cusco was fantastic.  We would strongly recommend this company to anyone wishing to organize a trip to Peru - just fantastic
