Lima – The Heart Beats Strong

Arrive in the City of Kings, Lima Peru, with the expansive city stretching before you. Each neighborhood reveals a different world containing a variety of scents, culture, and slang. The trendy seaside neighborhood of Miraflores stands above crashing waves and the lingering perfume of lemon from fresh ceviche. The lighthouse twirls in black and white stripes along the edges of the shore, giving light to the dark ocean and to the surrounding boardwalk it stands beside. Parque de la Muralla hovers around the edges of Lima where the heart of the city was once encircled by a large wall. Most of the fortification was torn down as the city expanded; however, a set of excavated pieces of the wall remain within the park, where a bronze statue of Francisco Pizarro stands in silence while Peruvian teens gaze into each others’ eyes.

Travel Review: Peru Vacation, Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Amazon, Hiking

We traveled to Peru for the first time in October, 2017.    It was a seven-day privately guided tour from Lima to Cusco, the Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes)  and three days in the Peruvian Amazon.     We thoroughly enjoyed every day on our trip!

Zicasso and our travel company planned the trip very well for us, with boarding passes, transportation and lodging that met our expectations, as well as excellent guides.     We would definitely consider using them for future travels!

Our Zicasso tour operator was great to work with. She provided a great itinerary, was flexible, and gave us timely responses. The transfers were seamless, very well organized, and on time. There were no hitches and everyone was professional. The hotels were very nice, with great service.

The guides were wonderful, especially in Lima and at the Amazon lodge. They were exceptional. The hotel was amazing and the staff were wonderful.

Peru 11-Day Tour Review: Amazon, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Local Cuisine, Assisting Community Children, Salt Mines, Sites & Culture

First of all - Peru is an amazing country, rich with colorful culture, people and food. I was going there with my lovely wife with usual preparation information gleaned from the internet through various sites and excitement as we prepared for South American Amazon and Machu Picchu, Cusco, Sacred Valley stops on an 11 day journey.Little did I know, I would be immersed in an experience of sight, sound, taste and feel - a journey that caused many moments of deep reflection, appreciation, gratitude, and love for humanity. A huge part of this gratitude for putting together this opportunity goes to our new friends our travel planners at this travel company. They organized a wonderful cross dimensional trip across the jungle and arid lands this country offers, where we had personal and personable, highly intelligent and knowledgeable guides that left us speechless at times as we absorbed all the cultural teachings, offerings (in Spanish and English). One travel planner even met us on our last full day to personally escort our visit with the lovely teachers and children of local village house – an educational charity working in the small town of Oropesa and other villages in the surrounding rural area 25km outside of Cusco, Peru. The charity offers a comprehensive afterschool program in academic and non-academic subjects, along with helping the children with their homework, which takes the burden off the parents. Thank you so so much!!

Our travel planner organized beautiful, amazing tours with Excellent guides: Amazon lodge stay and a local tour company (loved our new friend and guide); Sacred Valley, Maras Salt mines, Moray Ruins, Cusco Community Home visit (so special, honored new friend and guide); Machu Picchu guided tour and next day Sun Gate ascend and walk down to town; Cusco 2 day visit with a San Pedro Market tour and Amazing cooking class (with honored new friend and guide/professional chef).

We HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this travel company for Peru, and we intend to schedule future Galapagos, Brazil, Chile or Argentina trips with them also – thank you guys so so much!! Words will never express our feelings of gratitude and great fortune working with and getting to know you both (especially our planner – you’re an excellent driver BTW !)

Lastly and Importantly: Bring an appetite to experience the amazingly, indescribable flavors of this country – from the earth to plate, sprinkled with local and unbelievable spiced, herbed flavor diversity, there is a treasure to be had in the various dishes and preparations that reflect local historical significance. We had amazing food throughout our journey and encourage all who visit to expand their heart mind and pallet to capture the culinary opportunity that abounds in Peru!!

Peru, Galapagos / Ecuador Vacation Review: Lima, Amazon, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cusco, Quito

We just returned from a trip to Peru and the Galapagos Islands. We visited Lima, the Amazon, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Cusco, with an overnight stay in Quito.

The Zicasso-recommended travel agency created the perfect itinerary for us. All of the transitioning from place to place was seamless, the hotels were beautiful, the recommendations for restaurants were great, and the guides we had were amazing. They were so enthusiastic and willing to share their knowledge about past and current history. We were so impressed with our travel agency that we are already considering our next journey with them.

Luxury Peru Travel Agent Review: Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cusco, Lima, Amazon Jungle, 10-Day Tour
Overall we had an amazing trip to Peru. Our guide was the highlight. Words can only begin to describe how great he was. He led us thru the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Cusco. His passion for the history and people exceeded our expectations. Would highly recommend him for any Peru related guiding. Our other guide was also great as he led us through the jungle portion of our trip and showed us the beauty of the Amazon. We saw several animals and birds, but no jaguars or snakes. Initially we were told 1 in 4 chance of seeing a jaguar. We were later told by the owner Paul that there is a 1% chance of seeing one. All the hotels were beautiful in their own way. The disappointing portion of the trip was the pre-trip lack of timely communication about final plans and COVID requirements that certainly led to some degree of stress, unexpected baggage changes, and the tour of Lima was lacking. We also had a “gastronomic” tour of Lima which has great food in general, but the tour was just pathetic as all we did was go to a city market and look around then we had lunch where we watched them make ceviche (2 minutes) and make a pisco sour. We fully anticipated going to several venues for tastings and to actually be involved in the making of the ceviche etc.
